A noteworthy excerpt~
-
Lot's of news today it seems~ It's kind of snuck in there, but the patch release date is the 27th.
-
MMOs are games best played over long periods of time, not necessarily /all/ the time, so you're probably doing it right that way.
-
Pathfinder Online and Everquest Next are the only two I have any real interest in checking out, and they're both a long way off and are unlikely to tear me away from XIV totally.
-
The thing is the aesthetic style of an MMO is super important to me and WildStar falls flat because of the dimorphism and the Saturday morning cartoon style graphics - it was the same problem I had with WoW. As for me, if they continue to evolve XIV - dropping PS3 support will be a good sign that they actually intend to - then I'll have little reason to move on. I love just about every part of this game. Except the PVP. >.>

The more I look at it the more I'm leaning towards it being a horned race as well. -

Perhaps for just this particular character they are. Another possibility is that it's not a race we've seen before at all. Perhaps a dragon-kin type race, not Bangaa or the Amaljaa of course. -

The camera angle and positioning makes it difficult to tell how tall Yugiri is. They are so good ad teasing their fans. -

At first I wanted to discard Yugiri's possible new race being Viera, but then I recalled Feol Viera from FFXII Revenant Wings for the Nintendo DS. They are an offshoot of Viera known as "exiled ones". They have blond hair and shorter ears. Yugiri still could be something else of course, those ears are sitting awfully low. There could be a lot of hair under the hood that makes it seem like they're coming out of the middle of her head. Speculation is fun. -

Oh my, those ears are awfully suspicious in shape. -
As I understand it the Elementals are far from omniscient and using Conjury is not the same as communing with them directly, so it's not impossible that a person using it for an "evil" act may go unnoticed. Additionally what Eorzeans might consider "evil" might not exactly line up with what the Elementals consider "evil", they are non-humanoid beings with an extremely different viewpoint that are entirely obsessed with the Twelveswood. Edit: Unless I'm mistaken, Conjury is accomplished through channeling and manipulation of the aether in the environment, it's not exactly borrowed from the Elementals. It's possible to draw from yourself (and maybe other living beings? That would be a truly evil act), but this can be fatal. I actually don't think that the Elementals have any control whatsoever over the use of common Conjury and thus they would have no ability to bar its use, it's succor that they can gift and (possibly?) take away. So have at it. I can't recall all the details about being poisoned by aether (aethersick?). It know it's caused by being exposed to too much aether (obviously~) and that it's not necessarily fatal.

Thing is, MMOs are games meant to be played over long periods of time, not necessarily all the time. Cycling interest is natural.

A weapon can be used defensively too. However I wouldn't take any phrasing present in an english translation as a window into core company philosophy, double so when the source language is Japanese. There is no real direct translation of Japanese into English that is really readable without some degree of localization. Even so, the realm of pay to play MMOs is super cutthroat. After the boom that WoW created, everyone thought that there was this huge untapped market of people willing to pay a monthly fee to play games. But it turns out there is a finite number of people that are willing to do so, as a result the pay to play subscription model games do have to battle each other directly to stay relevant. It's not right or wrong, but if you want to keep playing ARR as a sub game hope that YoshiP and SE keeps their blades sharp and their eyes on the horizon.

Coil T1-2 Advice on Getting Started/Learning it
allgivenover replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
This isn't turn 1 or 2 related, but this is the best turn 5 video I'm aware of, useful to have when you eventually get there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anq6_iVjUHo -
I'm not certain it would require an entirely new engine, ARR's is pretty well done, but it's impossible to know its limitations just from playing the game. I think Sony has it down right for Landmark - it's a separate application entirely from Everquest Next.
-
All of this stuff will be possible if they actually discard PS3 support. Landmark type stuff in XIV would blow my mind, but it's pretty unlikely I feel...

The Screenshot Thread [Tag Your Spoilers]

You can tweak sweetFX as much as you like, so it can be as little or as much as you want. It's even got exposure and SMAA injection, etc. -
Clanker? Totally didn't steal that from a book somewhere~

This extrapolation speaks only about the likelihood of generalized mating behavior based off what we know of Miqo'te from the canon tribal lore. It says nothing about individual behavior or the wider arc of morality beyond mating habits because it's entirely unnecessary to state the plainly obvious. Why is it unnecessary? There is more than enough in game to determine that Miqo'te are certainly capable of compassion and cruelty both, there's very little reason to include it in a discussion focused exclusively on extrapolating mating habits through logical deduction of information provided by the canon lore and real world biology. I'm actually not sure what your primary disagreement is Ildur, as you have not provided any particular lore as evidence to discredit this model. You've only gone on about how this one is incomplete because it doesn't consider something that it had no intention to address to begin with - as it is plainly obvious to anyone that spends a few minutes talking to NPCs that Miqo'te are capable of reason and are not simple animals. Is it the idea that a fresh Nunh might off the old Nunh's offspring? Then consider that this is only one small part of the model, and it being wrong does not discredit the rest of it. Is it that you feel that it reduces Miqo'te to a fanservice race? Then your gripe is with Square Enix and their design. If you can provide an alternate model that adequately explains how Miqo'te mating habits work in a traditional/tribal lifestyle - again, this is only about tribal traditions, not about city Miqo'te or adventurer individuals - while also properly acknowledging the canon lore of the Tia/Nunh "right to breed" dynamic, the scarcity of males, the danger that a Nunh or would be Nunh faces during a challenge, the reality that Keepers also have breeding males (which lends some credence to the promiscuity model), and the promiscuous nature of many Miqo'te NPCs portrayed in game (again, not all of them), then please submit that model with your own reasoning and the basis for extrapolation. If it makes more sense than this model I and others will likely adopt it without hesitation.

Coil T1-2 Advice on Getting Started/Learning it
allgivenover replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
This has always been the plan, as stated by YoshiP himself several times. Once new content is out the old content is nerfed so that less hardcore people can get a shot at completing it. The new content then fills the most-challenging content void that remains. I think the only content that will never see direct nerfs are Primal trials. -
Who are you?

Coil T1-2 Advice on Getting Started/Learning it
allgivenover replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Attempting Twintania, yes. Conflags were a bit too much of a DPS check for full Darklight. Shouldn't be as much of a gear check now, conflags and snakes just had their HP lowered today. -
It's unfortunate for some PS3 players, but honestly. I purchased the PS3 version for novelty, the poor PS3 can barely run it as is. It can't support keyboard/mouse controls because so much system resource is under use just to run the game, the load-time is atrocious, the graphic quality abysmal compared to the PC version. really, I was concerned about the limitations of the PS3 holding the game back just as the PS2 held Final Fantasy XI back. So glad they're reconsidering.
