  1. This right here, the inability to separate the modern mindset from roleplay. It's the number one reason that Miqo'te lore discussions are always such a hot issue for debate. Killing? Fine. Rogue characters committing theft? Also fine. "Evil" type characters committing terrible acts such as kidnapping or torture? You see it all the time and no one bats an eyelash, it's even considered great fun by many. But sexual habits that defy political correctness or established norms? Cause for great offense and righteous indignation. Read again, focus on the wording. "I think I'll be nicer to the "Tia's" of the world now. And to all the "Nuhn's" out there you'll get Nuhn from me." You are not your character, this is not your world. Try to remove /your/ viewpoint when you consider how your character thinks. If you don't at least consider this then in my opinion you're not really roleplaying, you're just putting on a costume so you can feel cool.
  2. Real life Humans have been capable of ethics/morality and abstract thought for a long while now, but even a cursory study of history will quickly reveal that it's done little to curb our inherent savagery - though it may be very difficult to see that given our privileged western lifestyle, a lifestyle that is mostly absent of the desperation that encourages that latent savagery. It is in the lore that the losing male in a Seeker duel for Nunh status may not survive the event, such a thing would widely be considered extremely barbaric and cruel to a real world modern mind, but not so much to a race like the Miqo'te. However, we do have to realize that this is a fantasy setting, and what SE wants to portray may not necessarily 100% align with well thought out biology based extrapolation. The U' tribe we see in game seems to sit well with most of what OP wrote, though I'd be very surprised if SE ever touched the idea that a fresh Nunh might enact a culling of the old Nunh's cubs. And again, none of this is a hard guideline for how you should play /your/ Miqo'te character. OP stated this as well, and it seems this is reflected in game. The Valentione quests portrayed a Keeper of the Moon female who was at one point willing to marry a Hyur male. So no one is wrong for playing a Miqo'te that doesn't follow tribal habits of promiscuity (unverified but likely given that it's the only model we have that makes sense) or harem keeping. Now if only SE would show us a Keeper tribe in game so that we could do more than speculate and consider tiny tidbits like the fact that Keepers also have breeding males or at least show us a single Keeper male other than the CoeurlClaw King from that fate in the South Shroud...
  3. In all likelihood there wasn't anything that you could have done to avert that outcome. Once the OOC/IC line has been breached like that - intentionally or not - with one party becoming possessive as your friend did it's very likely to end just as it ended for you, badly. It's a terrible habit that's sort of prevalent among immature male role-players, as many of them are doing this to replace something missing from their lives and are not actually interesting in what RP should be about - cooperative storytelling.
  4. Yes they are. In fact both of the healing jobs are able to DoT in Crystal Tower, Extreme Primals, and all five Turns of Coil (except the turn 3 death run and Turn 2 enrage strategy) when appropriate - and it's appropriate very frequently. If you're only healing when you could be DoTing as well then you're probably doing a fine job of healing, but you aren't being the best party member you can be. You can even do long cast stuff if you're familiar with the fight and understand the enemy attack patters enough, that's how I get away with using Holy in Turn 4. Edit: Contributing to the topic of the thread. I really, really want Time Mage to be the second job for Conjurer. Crossing my fingers~
  5. The statement that Miqo'te males are rare is in fact only found /under/ the Keeper of the Moon heading. It was only after ARR launched that we were able to confirm for sure that Seeker males were rare. It's very easy for Keeper males to be out and about in the world. Keepers are loners by nature, do not have a hierarchy that determines breeding status, and have recently been forced to move into the cities, along with many other refugees. It's possible that breeding males are forced to stay home, under matriarchal rule, but that's why I killed Li's tribe off. I don't want to be in a messy situation when we finally get more lore. You killed a whole tribe just to avoid dealing with aligning the lore you established for them with canon? With my Li I had get forced out do to his village's matriarch, and most of the elders, being extremely anti-magic, something that the Calamity only amplified. On the subject of so many maleqo'te, like the other Li I just pretend non-roleplayer PCs don't exist. Not the entire tribe, just the people who kept it together. And not only to avoid problems with lore later on, I also did it because the adventuring life is a difficult one, full of danger. From a rational standpoint if a person has a stable life, with people to look after and in turn look after them, then they have little reason to risk that life with adventuring. Honestly if you have a stable happy life there is no reason to assume the role of adventurer, at all. How many people do you know in real life that have abandoned their comforts for the road (and no, camping trips and hiking don't count)? Zero.
  6. I'm mistaken with my typing. It's not that it has no effect on lore, it has no effect on the story of Eorzean things, it just confirms dimension hopping is canon. Which, if someone wants to roleplay a dimension hopped character, is fine with me. I just don't see the reason for it. Edit: It has no effect on the story of Eorzean things /so far/. SE hasn't used the dimension hopping for anything but cameos, it could become something greater eventually. I just don't know.

  8. I ignore the lightning stuff, unless other RPers bring it up, then I just have Li say he's heard of it but knows nothing beyond that. The thing about the Lighting event is that it being canon or not has no relevance to the lore at all really.
  9. So it's more of a community event than an RP event. It's a cute idea, I'll admit. However, I see the 'removal of the veil' so to speak, as more of an risk factor for harassment than it is a courtesy for the comfort of the non-roleplay community. I also feel that the sort of player that would be uncomfortable homophobic (truth is, being uncomfortable is homophobic) is the sort of player that wouldn't bother with this sort of event to begin with.
  10. I'm honestly not sure why a Nunh would go adventuring at all. However, there's plenty of room for civilian, non-adventurer Nunh RP.
  11. Very few of the entirety of the male Miqo'te PC population are roleplayers. The way I see it, PC players that are not roleplayers pretty much don't exist in in my character's perception at all, thus even though male Miqo'te remains a fairly popular roleplayer choice the sum of all npc males and PC roleplayer males still makes male Miqo'te fairly rare to come by.
  12. Lots of good insight and ideas here. Thank you all for the input. Not that it's particularly important to anyone, but I've decided that if I have Rakka'li go down this route that it will be through an elemental ala the 1.0 plot, as I'm much more comfortable with inventing a character of little import to others than I am of asserting there is even some tenuous connection between Rakka'li and the Padjal through some unnamed pupil.
  13. Considering it was the point of the entire topic, no it won't be stepping on my toes, but thank you.
  14. Would you mind sharing any of those ideas? This topic is, again, not about the right or wrong of RPing jobs. That's been discussed to death and is of little use for my purposes. I'm only interested in how others would or have had their character become a white mage.
  15. This is certainly off the table, as Rakka'li has been a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te since his inception and having him discover he was actually... something else... would be a hard left turn for him, not to mention how much the idea flirts with sue status - in my view at least. After re-reading 1.0 white mage quest information and re-watching the ARR white mage material I do agree that so far the only way I'd find acceptable to do it would be for Succor to be bestowed upon him by a rogue elemental (ala 1.0) or taught by a student of A-Towa or another unnamed Padjal. I'm still on the fence about doing it altogether, but so far the opinions presented here have been helpful, and I wouldn't mind seeing more from others.
  16. As we all know, roleplaying the jobs can be a tricky process. So far I've had no intention of roleplaying Rakka'li as a White Mage, thus far he's been just a Conjurer with a moderate talent for Hearing. However I've lately been considering - and this could take some time - having him actually become a White Mage. I'm still undecided here, but I'd like to get outside input on the subject. As I understand it being a White Mage in character would imply some connection with the Seedseers, a highly exclusive group that likely isn't too keen on sharing their secrets with anyone. So, given what we know of White Mage lore - if you made the decision to write a way for your character to become a White Mage - how would you go about it? Please don't treat this as a debate about whether or not it's correct to roleplay the jobs, that isn't the question I'm posing here. I'm more interested in how you would go about it in a hypothetical situation where you chose to do this. If you're already doing it in character, then share how you've already gone about it~ Thanks~
  17. I do sometimes RP Rakka'li as seeing better in dusk than in daylight. He also wears hats when in the La Noscean or Thanalan sun, because I feel like it would be outright uncomfortable to have that much dilation going on during the day.
  18. Probably due to how cats have much more powerful noses than humans - not nearly as powerful as dogs though. It was stated a few times in 1.0 and again in ARR, though I neglected to take screenshots. I'm not sure about night-vision for Seekers, maybe better than humans but not as good as Keepers. It's possible that Seekers have more acute vision as long as there's adequate light due to the vertical slit pupil shape that they share with real life cats, a trait that Keepers don't share. Keeper eyes are just super wide all the time.
  19. There's an NPC in the North Shroud that actually says that "We need to go right meow!" and uses the word meow, whenever she can. To be fair, that NPC probably says "nyaa" in the Japanese version, but the rest of it is not only a little ick to me, it's also completely unsupported by lore.
  20. Pretty much this ^ for me as well, though Rakka'li doesn't roll his R's. One thing I've noticed is that the heightened sense of smell is very much under-used. Please use it more other Miqo'te RPers! Miqo'te apparently have noses like blood-hounds (I can't find the actual dialogue of this, but that's what I've been told was in 1.0), that's powerful stuff.
  21. Aside from the prejudice Duskwight are said to endure there really isn't anything that I'm aware of. The devs have stated that cross-breeds are possible, but rare. If that's due to social taboo or just poor fertility between different races is anyone's guess. Personally I think it might be the latter because we never really see Eorzeans being overtly racist.
  22. The best DRG I know of constantly out parses everyone that we group with consistently. He was a MNK main before, and according to him it's much more difficult to put out the big parse numbers that people crave compared to ranged classes due to all the issues that have been posted here, but that doesn't mean DRG isn't good for anything. I'm not one myself, but I believe that DRGs not performing animation canceling with certain instant cast abilities and being overall poor at opportunistic positioning for flanking and such is the reason that people perceive the class to be overall not so great. You have to be great at dodging as well or you're going to get nailed by arc moves and die.
