Peronal Housing costs potentially specified
allgivenover replied to Maril's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I made over a million gil in April just leveling my retainers, doing maps occasionally, and selling drops from daily roulette. It's gotten even easier to make money now that my retainers are level 50 and I'm sending them on the highest level exploration venture - they bring back several allaghan silver coins and sometimes an item worth 100k or more. If I wasn't so busy with graduation coming up I'd be able to actually do some crafting and make real cash, but seriously 850k is not that hard to come up with at all and I'm not convinced of the translation confirming anything as the meaning of his words was rather ambiguous. I've been in games where housing was very easy to obtain and as a result no one really cared about it, the players value it much more when it's harder to get, and I agree with that approach. When you finally obtain an FC house you really value it - I spend all of my idle time in game there. I don't understand the huge comparison to other games, if Rift/Whatever is so great why arn't you playing that instead? -
Yep! Slight thread hijack because it's kind of nutty how often I'm seeing this question pop up recently in conversation - perhaps spurred by the Yugiri race speculation before 2.2 launched. It was stated in XII that male Viera do exist; we just don't see them because male and female Viera do not live together and they weren't written into the game. Perhaps because they didn't want to design male bunny people? Whatever the reason, we just don't get to see them. It's crazy surprising how many people missed this entirely or harbor an idea that Viera sprout from trees in female form only or that they form from the mist and don't need males. One person was so insistent on the latter theory that they spurred me to go back and double check to ensure that I didn't just make it up as apparently the Viera wikia article on the finalfantasy.wikia was not enough evidence to convince them. Anyroad.... Yes there are male Viera.

I put over 80 hours into my Thyrus Atma since the launch of 2.2, you just have to break it up and not try to grind it all in one go.

They weren't taking him seriously when they allowed him to remake the entire game rather than just patch the existing client?

The editing is well done, what did you use for production?

Be a Tia instead of a Nunh, as being a Nunh involves claiming you've won breeding rights in your tribe and unless he's actively part of a tribe and defending his status that's going to come across as a little weird. Being a Tia is not a negative thing, it just means that you are not actively making babies.

How did you approach them and how did they respond exactly? If it was something along the lines of "my character is a just not a great guy and I'm depicting him this way to illustrate that" then I can see the need for tolerating it and/or removing yourself from the situation if you can't handle the content - though I admit that a little limitation is necessary in public RP, and a light touch is often enough to get the point across. My own character is a bit of a jerk and I make it a point to demonstrate that yes, he really is one sometimes. Also, this game does provide a profanity filter. It is a tool designed to prevent you seeing anything definitively offensive, and I notice that fairly often people flat out forget it even exists. If they attacked you personally for simply opening a dialogue then they just need to be blisted. EDIT: Nevermind, I see that you did specify how they responded. I say either use the chat filter, remove yourself from RP that they are present in, or blist. I feel like just turning on the chat filter is likely the best solution, but that's just me.

Thought Experiment: Entering the World of Eorzea
allgivenover replied to Zyrusticae's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Going to answer this in two ways. The first way will be for the character Rakka'li, and the second will be for just straight up game mechanics. Before that though let's consider how many people are stuck in this Log Horizon type situation with me. Assuming there's about 6k players per server, and assuming that perhaps 50% of the player population is on when the change happens, and given what we know about class distribution there's going to be anywhere from 350-500 more White Mages running around than there was before. Also we have to consider how unbalanced Miqo'te male populations are going to become, while it's likely that the adventurer population is going to be a drop in the bucket compared to the total offscreen Eorzean population, there is going to be a sudden influx of Male Miqo'te - particularly of the Sunseeker variety. We could spend a whole topic devoted to how that would shake things up. If I'm in Rakka'li, the character's, shoes then I'm not exactly powerful or influential. In fact I won't be doing so hot because of the situation he's left me in. I'm borderline destitute and not exactly well liked, though I am lucky in that I've got moderate Healer talent so that I can at least be valuable to the Stillglade Fane. No echo and little combat skill beyond some self defense training means that I'm probably not fit for anything heroic. Overall not a terrible place to be in since there's security in obscurity. With a more level personality at the helm rather than Rakka'li's less than stable personality controlling things, I could build a fairly safe, decent living. If I'm Rakka'li, the level 50 White Mage, then things are way different. On one hand I've got access to forbidden - and potentially dangerous - powers via White Magic, and my forays into Coil and battles against the Primals have left me with numerous powerful artifacts and a reputation for taking down the big baddies. However just because I have this stuff doesn't mean I know how to use it, I've pretty much been put in the seat of a high performance racing automobile even though I barely understand manual transmission. I'm going to have lots of enemies and perhaps expectations to take on responsibilities that I'm just not able to handle. It could be a very dangerous situation that's only made bearable by the fact that there will be many other adventurers in the same situation, so there will be some safety in our numbers and our ability to organize. I think my best shot in that case would be to work with the Stillglade Fane and use my clout as a Whitemage to align with Gridania. Needless to say I wouldn't be doing any dungeon delving for a long while. -

Patch 2.2 Notes (Preliminary) (03/21/2014)

It wasn't that much harder, but you'd probably need an i85ish WHM to do it. It just required stacking more closely and smart usage of Cure III. -

They "mistakenly" nerfed the enrage method once already, then undid it. Even then it was only slightly harder to perform than before. -
I notice that people don't actually try to set up RP that often in intermission, but when they do they usually get a response unless it's some weird time.

Not only that, it's one of the best FF music pieces period. -
If getting to cap was any sort of difficult or time consuming as it was back in XI I'd see a reason to gripe about it, but with the numerous quests, duty roulettes, and leves to do I really don't see an issue with providing more incentive to get to 50. It seems to me the development of the glamour system was more geared towards endgamers that are tired of wearing a mishmash of i90 stuff than it is about roleplay. I've had Li's RP outfits on a gear set for some time now, the glamour system does pretty much nothing to alter how I'm going to use it, but for my mix of Cleric's/Allaghan for endgame? It's super exciting.

I ignore the ingame day/night cycle and consider time passing in Eorzea as 1:1 compared to Earth time unless SE states otherwise.

Perhaps my notion of Feol type Viera isn't so left field anymore. Excitement!

Will you PLEASE stop trying to arrest me.
allgivenover replied to Erik Mynhier's topic in RP Discussion
This is why you don't RP authority figures, like a police officer. -
Xenedra pointed it out to me, but that's an awfully strange looking Miqo'te on the right there.
-
It looks like this won't really change RP at all, but it's going to be a big help for having a more uniform outfit instead of being forced to wear mismatched pieces for PVE.
-
After a while people tend to glue together into cliques with their friends, and often feel little need to branch out. If all the RP you want comes from the same 5 people or so, then why go get more? It's not a deliberate effort to exclude newcomers, it's just in people's nature to be this way. Try asking people you've already RP'd with if they'd like to RP with you again directly, often people are pleased by direct requests for RP, as they are not all that common after a community settles. It can be tough to break in.
