  1. I thought about trying to do a LS like a radio broadcast at one point, but with so many other projects on my table, this one got shelved -.-
  2. 2 explorers! Exploring is always a great thing to rp out. I never actually considered surfing. That'd be a really cool thing for SE to add to costa del sol. Roegadyns definitely would need some really big.boards though... o:
  3. Sounds like Blue would be good friends with my Miqo, Blueflower c: Now, if only Blueflower would hurry up and learn how to talk...
  4. Two part question; What do your characters like to do for recreation, and do you ever actually do it in your rp? For example, Riley loves to fish. She's constantly lookout for people to fish with, and actually rp it out, not just say they did it Any of you all have hobbies like that? Second question: Anyone in Gilgamesh interested trying to set up 'sporting' events (or other forms of recreation) that could be run on a monthly basis? My first thoughts were a Chocobo Racing Circuit, a game I'm working on called Chocoball, or carby battles done in the basement of the ACN guild. Interested parties could join my OWLs LS, and we could set up a committee. Thanks!
  5. You can join one FC, but 8 Linkshells. So it might be a good idea to join a few LS's first, get an idea of what FC's are out there, and what ones will fit your IC and OOC needs c:
  6. This is where mmo rp can get really tricky... you've put all that ooc/pve time in a character, so you really don't want to start over (especially if the game is grindy)... but you are bored or burnt out on them icly. Alts help. Taking an rp break, and only pveing helps. Taking a break from the game completely for a week helps. I am not one to advocate pushing through in the hopes of finding some great rp again, because I think that can burn out your creativity even more... but it works for some people. I got burnt out on my first character, an elezen. All her hopes and dreams had gone up in smoke, and she really had no motivations anymore, which made her not fun to play. So I shelved her, and got completely rejuvenated by a sillly, nonsencial alt I made Later, I went back and dusted my elezen off. I advanced her story one year (I essentially npc'd all her old contacts) and found some enjoyable rp with her again. I found she had moved past her old wounds, and had found new goals and ambitions again. Sometimes you need to leave your characters alone so they have time to sort their lives out, so to speak.
  7. You can't have same sex relationships with companions. They did throw in some random npcs at endgame that you can have pretty meaningless hookups with same sex
  8. I'll just throw out there that if you do roll Gilgamesh, the United Blades LS is very new rper friendly, and several of us would be more than willing to give you a hand in learning the ropes (we have a FC too, but its not required to be a member to be in our LS)
  9. Knowing SE, they would not allow same sex relationships -.- I guess that just leaves Thancred, and only Thancred.
  10. A hearty welcome to FFXIV and to the rpc community! While I think you have the right idea that social events might be the best way to get your foot in the door, you should never feel like you have to have all the knowledge about rp in order to get involved. Everyone should be allowed to learn at their own pace; its okay to make mistakes, its okay to be nervous, and please try to bear in mind we were all brand new at this at one point, so know exactly what you are going through! Ask a lot of questions, open yourself to a variety of rp, and practice, practice, practice! The more rp you do, the more natural it'll start to feel, and the deeper your understanding will become. Since you are unable to currently get in game, feel free to PM me on this site if you have any questions about getting started c: Hope your journey in Eorzea is a pleasant one!
  11. Thanks Bruden. Any who'd like to rp with our group, please feel free to send any of us a tell in game. We'd love to rp with you!
  12. A rousing success c: thanks to all who came out and supported this.
  13. *looks around sheepishly* So, how did you do it? *Hides* Gosh. I don't remember what you are suppposed to sah... is it well met? I think you type Well met. Just like that. I know for sure there is no quotation marks, but I don't remember if its a period, an exclamation point, or nothing. If you'd asked me last night, I could've told you... ;_; Also... I'm sorry but I honestly can't see how this could possibly be hub destroying. If you need that level of immersion around you to rp, then you are in the wrong medium. Do tabletop. Do forum rp. Do skype. An MMO is, and always will be, FULL of distractions because it was NOT made for rpers. If you can't process out what's going on around you in an mmo, then you're not going to have a good time. I don't react to every FATE that pops up in the middle of an rp... I don't react to trolls who craft on the middle of the table I am rping at.... it didn't bother me that they set up a beginners quest in the middle of mhi khetto theater... It would be like going to a packed sports stadium and asking everyone to quiet down so you could read.... everyone is there to enjoy the game, not to pander to someone's unrelated hobby. MMO rp will always have an element of chaos, and if we as rpers are unable to handle that, then we need to use other forms of rp , made specifically for us.
  14. It took me awhile to figure it out too Heck, its pretty easy to incorporate those people into IC. I mean... we ARE at a bar.. 'Hey look at those people over there! They're so drunk they don't even know how to talk right.' Also, I am so used to tuning out other peoples conversations in taverns that this really doesn't effect me.
  15. I actually found the exact opposite; Balmung was pretty clique-y and ever since I moved to Gilg I've found more and more rp. I guess its all up to the individuals personal experience. Regardless, the OP seems to want to roll Keeper of the Moon. The abundance of lore isn't great, but Keepers are a matriarchal society, that like strong, short names, so as mentioned Dei or Dhei would fit well. The Black Shroud surrounding Gridania was the home of a lot of Keepers. The Shroud as a region suffered greatly from poachers, who kill for profit, and the fact that the Shroud is a magic forest that unleashes its fury to protect the animals within. To try to keep the forest at peace, both the conjurers guild and the wood wailers (a para-military group) have essentially gone to war to stop the poachers. Perhaps your Keeper can fit somewhere in that neat regional history. That said, ffxiv doesn't focus a lot on cultural identity, and the city-states kind of have a cultural melting pot feel to them. Welcome to ARR!
  16. I would try to keep the Miqo explosion under control by starting a game show in which contestants guess the price of things, and the closest guess without going over gets to participate in mini games. At the end of each episode i'd remind people to please spay and neuter their Miqo's o:
  17. I don't have a swimsuit but I'll consider attending anyway (Riley has a hard time saying no to free boooze)
  18. That would be absolutely perfect! I'll reach out to you later in game.
  19. As leader of the OWLs Linkshell, I was curious if there were any reporter types who would be interested in trying to throw together a monthly IC newspaper that would report on things such as the upcoming gilgamesh ladies night, the save highbridge event, and any other ongoing public storylines to keep people in the know. Other things the newsletter could include: Peoples screenshots (we'd treat them as artist depictions) Writers submissions (either auto-biographical or fictional) Welcoming spotlights for new faces around the community FC and Ls spotlights 'Hero's corner' redognizing the achievements of people around the community. Editorials from staff... (romance advice column... anyone? ) Wanted posters (for villains looking for rp storylines) And much, much more! If interested in joining OWLs to contribute to this, please contact Riley Moore or Adolar Stone (I forgot Ghen's last name Ado... sorry! ._.) Thanks, and happy patch day to you all!
  20. In terms of roleplay, most people stick to text. There are males playing females, females playing males, shy people, or people who feel voice chat programs would totally ruin their immersion of how their characters voice sounds in their head. That's not to say that a voice chat rp group might not exist! You'd just have to find it. As for which server... it wouldn't hurt initially to roll on both, attend some events, and see where your character might fit. There are active fc's and ls's on both, and active communities on both,so its more a matter of what ends up being the best fit for you and your character.
  21. Hey Valen, i'd be more than happy to try and field any questions you might have in regards to rp if you do take clovers advice and initially roll on both servers (I'm on Gilg). Typically I'm in game between 6-11pm EST on Riley Moore. And if I don't hear from you.... Keep in mind rp is meant to be fun, not stressful! There is absolutely nothing wrong with making mistakes, as most of us did when we first started out. As in all things, rp takes practice to perfect the art, and this community in particular is really friendly towards helping new people learn the ropes. Ask a lot of questions, don't get discouraged if you have any 'setbacks' (because that's part of the learning process!), and don't be nervous! Get out there and enjoy yourself. Good luck!
  22. *Raises hand* Ooh, me first! Pick me!
  23. Updated to reflect we now have a healers clinic! Many thanks to xerys phen and echo knights!
