  1. My Wildwood Isielin Danar'i has high morals, and would also be looking to expand her circle of friends. WARNING: Isielin comes with a miqo'te entourage >_>
  2. I assure you Sir, my comment was in jest. ERP is treated as this big, bad taboo subject that needs to be swept under the carpet, even though some of the sweepers probably engage in it regularly. I blame catholicism. However, since you have made it perfectly clear this is not the purpose of your plot, I will say this: your dude seems like quite the unsavory character. This could make for some very interesting rp for those seeking an antagonist, and to put their characters through the wringer. I do have one serious, legitimate question though: your FC advertises themselves as good aligned, and yet your slave-trading, personal vendetta against women character seems anything but. Am I to assume you play the role of antagonist towards them too?
  3. Pretty much this. On a f2p game it makes sense to price things exorbitantly, to try and get your player base to cough up real cash to support the game, and gain perks that makes gaining money easier. But we are already coughing up real cash. This just feels like punishment.
  4. If you look at the recent 'cleaning' the moderators of this site did of the linkshell hall, 61% of Gilgamesh's Linkshells/FC's were declared inactive. That's rough to say the least. And yet, some of the initial fears that caused rpers to seek out a non-legacy server in the first place have transpired (hello, cost of FC housing on Balmung) Maybe after the holidays, things will pick up. 2.1 might bring people back, and/or bring in fresh blood.
  5. While I agree broody characters can be a treasure trove of quality rp, there are any number of things that can go wrong: #1 - they can be TOO good at playing broody. If my character tries to interact with them for a half hour, and its like pulling teeth just to get a simple yes or no answer out of them, both I and my character will fail to get emotionally invested, will get bored, and move on. People can create too much of a barrier on their characters, severely limiting who will interact with them. To use a single player game character like Cloud Strife is a poor example. That story was written specifically to tell Cloud's emotional journey. The other characters in FF7 did not have a choice whether or not they would interact with Cloud, their roles were written specifically that way. In essence, he could be as broidy as he wanted to be without losing friends. #2 - they can be too dark/dramatic. Traumatic backstories can lead to very compelling, intimate, emotional rp. But consider this; lets say my main character has 20 friends with traumatic pasts (its very prevalent in rp). And in one way or other, these backstories come to light by them acting out, breaking down, or creating very dramatic stories. At some point, my character becomes a damn social worker completely flooded by constant drama. It reaches a point where in order to stay sane she just doesn't give a crap. She can only harbor so much compassion for so many people. Its only natural she should seek out sunny, cheerful dispositions to alleviate the constant broodiness/drama/darkness. #3 - broody characters can severly limit themselves. Someone else touched upon this. A lot of broody characters get caught up in 'my character wouldn't fit here'. 'My character wouldn't fit there'. Essentially, you are left needing a very specific type of rp that requires a perfect storm of the right people, and the right scene, for your character to progress at all. Which isn't fair to you, or to other rpers. Hope some of that helps! Broody chars can be a lot of fun to rp with, but it definitely requires a eeft touch!
  6. Honestly, I feel like there are (and should be) two brands of our characters. The public, community wide brand has to play a safe, politically correct, and ultimately somewhat bland version of themselves that mostly focuses on socializing. Lets say your character is a high ranking official of the maelstrom. You go to the bismarck to get a drink, strike up a conversation with a stranger, only to find they are a high ranking official of the maelstrom too. Only your stories don't match. Nor do your interpretations of what the maelstrom is, and what they do. To accept each others versions requires significant retconning or rewriting of your own tale, which many people are unwilling to do. Or lets say the other player was a fierce pirate known across all of Limsa. Only, you've worked for the maelstrom for years and have never heard of him... The point is, what is accepted within your inner rp circle won't necessarily be accepted by the community as a whole, where contradictory stories abound. We exist in multiple universes and multiple versions of Eorzea, so when we engage in the wider community, there are certain defining characteristics that have to be abandoned. Because everyone has a different interpretation of what is allowed, what is lore friendly, and what puts you in that 'special snowflake' catergory.
  7. I'm up for and have room for an LS, though I think a skype room might be moreconducive to brainstorming sessions.
  8. Tier, this is very much in vein with some of the things I am trying to do, and you know I'm always up for whatever you've got cooking up ^_~ so count me in! ,
  9. A fair question I have asked myself often. The game itself just cutscreens anytime you travel, so there's no identifiable passage of time. Some people use teleporting in their rp, which I generally shy away from. Mostly I use chocobo travel, but I generally don't rp the travel portion, as I haven't come up with a good answer in regards to length of time. One time, on a ferry ride to Costa, I had my miqo turn and apologize for standing up in and capsizing theboat, and the other person ran with it which was cool. And now my miqo isn'tr allowed on that particular ferry again
  10. Oops! This is on Balmung, forgot to mention. Also, interest in forum RP is a bonus.
  11. Hello. My Wildwood Isielin has founded a small order of knights, purchased a keep with a plot of land, and in order to help cover costs, is seeking to rent the land to merchants, crafters, traders, and artisans to set up shops. Isielin is looking to interview both people interested in joining the knights, and in those interested in renting land and opening up businesses. Businesses could include anything from a blacksmith, tavern, restaurant, there's even a dance studio going in! Whatever you can think, the village of Red Coral might be able to make it happen! The goal of this little project is to create a town that grows organically as decided by you, the players. This is a linkshell only. Positions we are looking for: +Knights +Guards +Merchants +Innkeeper/tavern owner +Market Day coordinator +Town medic If you think you can contribute to this little community, but don't see an applicable position listed above, please feel free to set up an interview anyway! Reply here, message me on this site, or send tell to Isielin Danar'i for more info/if interested. Hope to hear from you soon!
  12. I find the 'if it's in the game, it has to be lore,' argument very compelling, since FFIV:ARR was in no way, shape, or form made for rp. It is not dungeons & dragons, nor pathfinder, nor even a world like that of Dragon Age, where everything was created with the express purpose of building upon the world's lore. Fantasia is a utility item, created specifically for players unhappy with their characters appearance. It makes me wonder how people would rp such utility items such as name change or server change vouchers... ...all of which is horribly off-topic. I like the idea of your character was dressed up like a guy this whole time. But since that doesn't seem to fit your character, I guess a potion of some sort is the next best thing. I'm not sure about the gods being the cause, as they seem pretty uninvolved in matters.
  13. A tentative registration... (given the time frame you listed, I may be unable to make it) Full Name: Claire Fialo Belleza del sol = Y Represent = N Squad: = N Mount/Pet = N Fashion = N
  14. I've seen a number. Really good ones too But... I think Roe is the least played race by far. It used to be Lala, but I've seen a veritable Lala explosion (I wouldn't be surprised if Lalas haven't supplanted Elezens as no. 3 on the list) Anyway... Roes. You're taking the smallest represented race, THEN having to find the rpers within that already small group, THEN having to find the Roe rpers who rp out in the open... ... they are rare and beautiful birds. Love them. Hug them. Squuuueeeeeze them!
  15. Hey Naih tried to reach you in game! It's been a very busy week, so I don't think I'll be able to offer the entertainment portion, as I haven't had time to prepare anything, but I'll definitely still be there with a bakery stall!
  16. This. As a casual gamer, it's really exciting to see SE actually pay attention to us and create new ways to work towards our gear =P
  17. One time, Claire burnt an entire batch of cookies! The horror! In all seriousness, I typically avoid (though they sometimes find me!) traumatic events such as near-deaths, kidnappings, explosions, etc. etc. just because it happens to so many other people, and things can quickly become a soap opera. That's not to say I won't ever plan out a traumatic event, or inadvertently stumble across one, but my RP tends to be a lot more 'slice of life' style.
  18. This is a perfect example of where a /tell would help alleviate any misgivings or misunderstandings. I know some people don't like to do /tells, they feel it breaks some sort of wall, but there are a lot of shy, new, or otherwise nervous people out there where a little OOC communication can provide a wealth of confidence and help. Should people take IC actions as representing OOC actions? No. Do they? Yes. Especially with new rpers, a little help in separating the OOC from the IC can be needed. It's very easy to take things personally when you are first starting out in the rp world, and it never hurts (imo) to give people some OOC encouragement.
  19. I have a Keeper with very similar 'Seer' abilities (which also don't get discussed or brought up often) and would love to have the two meet. Her name is Nica Locke and I'll look for you soon. ... just be forewarned, Nica is kind of a handful >_>
  20. @ K'nahli: I can honestly say I have had one positive experience with combat related RP, and the rest of it has been terrible. I think many are in the same boat, hence a general reticence to engage in confrontational/combat RP. As badger said, I'm willing to keep an open mind, but am not afraid to pull the plug if things get too crazy. In a world where sleep spells and bindings exist, its highly possible even non-combatants could make a hasty escape. I also think criminal activity would realistically happen in isolated areas or back alleys, away from crowds and guards. Unless you got some gang stuff going on =p To clarify, my one good combat experience, my char got the crap kicked out of her and almost died, so winning has nothing to do with it. Its about believability in how you RP the fight, and I find a lack of this :c
  21. Emotes are your friends. If you type: Kheni'to paused, his ears flicked towards the conversation, and he tilted his head in a way to indicate he was listening. This shows the people talking that you are interested in joining. Now if nothing happens, don't get discouraged. Sometimes chat scrolls too fast. Sometimes they want to work you in the scene, but don't know how to do so ICly because their characteers didn't notice you. Me personally, I send tells if I see someone standing nearby emoting or looking interested. Something along the lines of 'please feel free to jump in!' I love OOC communication because I think its the easiest way to avoid confusions. And sometimes people just don't want others to jump into their conversation (though they shouldn't be rping in public if this is the case). Don't get discouraged here either! We are a diverse community, and there are a lot of friendly folks to rp with out there!

    Naming

If having a non-conventional name makes me a 'special snowflake', then I don't know if I want to be taken seriously. I want to be taken as someone who is fun to rp with. For the most part, the name holds little relevance to me, if they can spin an entertaining yarn, and enhance the time spent gaming. Almost everyone gets reduced to a four letter nickname anyway (at least in my experience) so I just don't see the big emphasis on names. Yes, I understand names like Super Man, or Spongebob Squarepants would be hard to rp with, so.... don't. It was there choice to have that name, and all that comes with it. But I also find following naming conventions to a T pretty limiting. It makes sense if I'm playing a very traditional character who would therefore bear a traditional name. But in teh city-states themselves I tend to thiink a lot of cultural melting pot is going on, with a lot of experimentation with names. There are many, many, many, many, many, many npcs with non-conventional names. To have a traditional name doesn't make you anymore legit or better, to have a non-traditional one doesn't make you anymore special or unique. We are all here to RP, period. Our focus should be on our shared love of storytelling. I fall in love with people and stories, not with names.
  23. Thanks all. I too like K'nahli's method, and will use it more often!
