Welcome! Feel free to send me a tell in game on either Claire Fialo (Miqo - Seeker) or Ashleigh Grey ( Hyur -Midlander) I'm always up for meeting and rping with new folks!

I have been told on quite a few occassions that selfless or genuinely nice people without ulterior motives is not realistic, which I've never understood. Of course, I've been told this often in real life, too, because I'm generally a selfless person, and that's made even less sense

Omgosh the Doctor... why did I not think of that? That's a great example =)

This I like a balance. I like to interject a healthy dose of humor and fun mischief into my RP to counterbalance all the grim-dark. And lately, all my hero was getting was grim dark @ Faye: I've considered and shall continue to do so! Though as stated am very happy in my current home! @ Session: I run the gamut from true neutral to lawful good, but neutral good is my favorite @ All: thank you all for the input! I read everyone's responses, and appreciate the time and viewpoints that have been shared up to this point

Go to the linkshells page, vlick on the Gilgamesh tab, and enjoy =) There is also an OOC linkshell on Gilgamesh for finding RP. Good luck! PS: you can join up to 8 linkshells (chat/rp channels) and one Free Company (guild)

I want to first clarify I am not talking about paragons of virtue with no flaws. I agree that would be boring. Internal conflict as they strive to uphold their own moral code can make for compelling RP. Their faults are fun to explore. Everyone falters from time to time. My characters always have reasons for who they are, what they do. If they are champions for justice there is a reason for that. It just feels there isn't a place for that character in these communities though, because practically everyone is grizzled mercs, anti-heroes, etc. There are no heroes for them to stand beside. I also recognize the why of 'why middle morality' characters are most popular. It makes sense. I'm just disappointed by a lack of variety I guess. When I see something labeled as a heroes guild, I expect a heroes story. Its why put that particular character there. I should also note that I have switched chars, and am thoroughly enjoying both the rp I am having, and this rp community. I am just sad at an inability to find a home for my 'hero' and being able to explore that type of rp also

These are great points and questions, and allow me to address them: On some characters I love exploring gray areas. I love the emotion that comes from exploring dramatic interactions between characters, and seeing how much they can change and develop overtime through heartbreak, loss, grief, even happiness. I guess, (again to use this as an example) with a band of heroes I'm looking for more of a team like the Enterprise, the Fellowship, the Jedid. They don't tear andclaw at one another, the conflict comes from external sources not internal. By working together and having each others backs, they can overcome their hurtles and obstacles together. It's no fun watching everyone fall from grace, and your character is the only one left, and they have fallen out of favor with their fallen friends. The joy of what made them fun to play is gone. That sense of adventure, and takung on the world as a team is gone. Hope that clarifies!

I've asked this question before (not here) but due to recent events with one of my characters, thought I would bring it up again. First, some context: 'Good Guys' in this case is a generic term for those who fight for good. Heroes. They vanquish evil, while still being merciful, and have a strong moral compass. Think Jedi's. Or if your a Trekkie, think of an Enterprise crew. They always seem to find a way to try and do the right thing. Even if it fails, they know the effort was made. Now, I love to play these types of characters. Neutral good 'knightly' types that fight for justice, and have an inherent sense of what is right. Problem is, I can never find groups for them. I've joined several guilds across a couple of games (I've not been rping super long - only 6 months) in which inevitably the same thing seems to play out: the guild is advertised as heroes, yet the majority of people who join are mercs, or anti-heroes at best. So the story becomes less about 'saving the world' and more about exploring the darkness within people, and their need to kill/pillage/fall from grace. While those are interesting and fun concepts to explore for sure! It is not why I join those groups on those characters. Whenever I raise this question and/or concern, the response I most frequently get is 'Well, playing characters who always do the right thing is too hard'. Except for me its not. It's why I love characters like Captain Picard, Sheriff Jack Carter (Eureka) , But at times it literally feels like I am the only one, and that these sorts of characters are unwelcome. That somehow playing good guys isn't interesting enough, or realistic enough. So I turn to you, the community to ask: are heroes boring to play? Anyone else here enjoy playing these characters?

I'll have to do that when I eventually get there. Oh, you're one of them GRIDANIANS. Or LOMINSANS. Augh. AUGH. Well excuuuuuse me! Guess you don't need an archer/conjurer buddy then.:chocobo: Who the heck would level both Archer and Conjurer? *looks at own toon* Oh.

I suppose it all comes down to expectations? I came from a game in which almost no Open world RP existed outside of taverns. Here, I find it quite a bit! Almost daily! Not everyone rps though. Balmung is not an official RP server (Square Enix decided not to designate one) so there are plenty of non-rpers and pvers on the server. I would suggest perusing the Linkshell page, maybe join Intermission (an OOC linkshell designated for finding RP. You can join up to 8 linkshells, which are like RP chat channels, but only one FC (Free Company), which are what guilds are called in this game. Give it time, poke around a little bit, and you'll find the RP cuz I assure you it is there! Hope this helps!

The targeting in general in this game drives me absolutely yonkers. I hope they fix it. I've never played a game with tab targeting before, but it seems like the AI could be a lot better; as in the tabbing focuses on the mobs nearest you first, rather than the ones three malms away. It is also very hard to click on targets. The click boxes should be larger.

I'll have to add on normal is in the eye of the beholder. Normal to me is people seeking people out. If we only talked to non-strangers.... um.... how would we ever become non-strangers? I smile and greet people a lot out in the real world too <3

@ Asyria: It seems my post started a 5-6 post anti- Asyria page, and for that I apologize. My intent was merely to debate your viewpoints, and to offer up good reasons to embrace open world RP. If anything I said came across as offensive, I apologize. In the end, we must keep in mind that we are a diverse group who have different wants and needs from our RP, and we should try to remain respectful of that, and refrain from placing labels and names on each other. What I crave from my rp, and what Asyria craves is a bit different, and thats fine. If all of us wanted the same thing, what a boring place Eorzea would be. In real life, Asyria, I do listen in on people's convetsations. I'm a people watcher and a shameless eavesdropper. Its the writer in me. Studying people helps me (hopefully) create more in-depth, believable characters. While I am a bit of a wallflower, and do not initiate random conversations myself, I do however find it interesting when people do so with me. Some people are just naturally friendly! My whole point is I think the RP community as a whole has a big opportunity to nurture and grow itself with how they handle random walkup rpers. There can be so many negative rp experiences, its nice to try and create some positive ones that happen out of the blue! @Claris: I thought your Lala archer was adorable, and I'd love to RP with her again Also, I apologize for the subligar Claire was wearing. That was totally not what she would wear ICly

My Wildwood named hers Sebastian. I don't know what my Miqo is gonna name hers yet -
Asyria, I have thought about your point often: how its unrealistic for people to jump into conversations without reason to. But the thing is, there can be reasons to. New folks are so eager to rp that they just run up and yell 'hey guise! What's going on!?' It's the wrong approach, but the enthusiasm is totally a good thing. It's a perfect opportunity OOCly to try and help them learn better 'how to work yourself into a scene' approach. Coming out of the archers guild in Gridania yesterday, my miqo Claire discovered a Bard training a brand new Lalafell archer how to use her bow. "Wish I had a cool hat like that," Claire grumbled, eyeing the bard. That was an opening. If the Bard ignored me, Claire would just move on. However, he chose to acknowledge her! What followed was a fun 10 minute on the spot RP. It was a nice break from the pve grind I was doing. Had they been in party chat Iwould have sadly missed that opportunity. Nor is party chat realistic. Two people are standing right in front of Claire talking, and yet she can't hear a word they are saying? That is just as unrealistic as people 'crashing' conversations. Some scenes deserve privacy, I'll give you that. But then don't do them in public places Open world RP can be extremely rewarding and gratifying. Having to put up with a troll here or there shouldn't turn people off from it. Having over-enthusiastic rpers crash your scene should be seen as an opportunity to better instruct them on how to create more realistic interactions. Party chat deprives them of that opportunity. An RP community is only strong if it looks out for each other, and if it continues to grow. Ignoring the new folks, or avoiding them, is the worst thing a community can do, and why so many people harbor u fair grudges against rpers in the first place.

Wow, I love it =) I very much want to take out some crayons and color it in!

This Sunday, the 29th, at 12 pm EST, Claire Fialo, aspiring playwright, will be hosting an event dedicated specifically towards you. The event will take place in the Mih Khetto amphitheater in Gridania, and will run roughly 1-2 hours based on attendance. Fashionably late is a-ok! Details of the event: *Claire Fialo, aspiring playwright, will be hosting acting improv sessions designed to help you, the new rper, get comfortable with what rp is all about. How does one get comfortable? With knowledge! And practice! (And maybe science?) *Claire will direct 'scenes' in which you the actor are guided on how to play. There are no lines to memorize, do not worry, this is strictly improv! The goal is to have fun, but learn about RP along the way. * Any questions will certainly be answered, so ask often, and ask away! * Though the event will be IC (In character), due to its unique nature of helping new people out, IC/OOC will not be strictly enforced, to allow people time to get comfortable with what they are doing. I only ask that that OOC be handled the traditional way, ((In brackets)). *Additionally, if you want to attend, but do not feel as though your character 'fits', you do not have to treat this as canon. Literally, the goal here is to have fun and help people learn, so please lets not get caught up on technicalities. Thanks ! For the Vets (and new people!): -This event will also mark the formation of the Healing Winds acting troupe Linkshell. Are you an entertainer, writer, or thespian? Then the Healing Winds might be the place for you! Meeting a couple times a week, the Winds will rehearse scenes, with the eventual goal of putting on plays for Eorzea! Send a tell to Claire Fialo for more details. -those who wish to join the Healing Winds linkshell will be expected to be IC, and to treat all RP as canon. Hope to see some of you there!

A couple of times I've actually included trolls in the RP, which seems to greatly confuse them, and sends them packing Otherwise I just ignore them. Trolls are trolling cuz they crave attention, usually of the negative variety. They feed off it. I don't bother with giving them the satisfaction.
-
Give me a tell anytime in game and we'll RP ^^ Claire loves meeting new people. I'm usually on evenings EST throughout the week, and off and on all day on w/e.

This. Sooooooo much this. <3 People spend so much time crying about bad runs, and pugs, that its quite turned me off from raiding in general. I am SO sorry, madam or sir, for simply trying to have FUN during my downtime, and for not meeting your epeen requirements of perfection in a GAME. Given how unhappy these people seem to be, it's a wonder they are still here. Runs should be fun regardless of who is in your party, or you are taking things waaaaaay too seriously. Why play if you need things to be 'exactly so' to have fun? You're just gonna beat your head against the wall 9/10, and annoy the people around you.

Due to your time restraints, you might actually try a EU group! I believe there is a fairly large EU linkshell that is OOC, but built with the purpose of finding RP

I think FC chats being OOC is typical, as OOC is very important for pve, which most people enjoy, but also for setting up good RP. Keeping RP flowing is a collaborative effort, which often requires OOC communication. And personally, I find all the good RP I've been a part of has been face to face, not over linkpearls or FC chats.
