  1. I wish more combat systems were like Dragon Nest. That said, this one's kind of grown on me.
  2. Omg I quote that line all the time when it comes to RP. I think I am rather unique in that I focus on my char's weaknesses instead of her strengths. To me, the joy of RP comes from struggling with what they are bad at, not flaunting what they are good at. So far, my character has overcome; -A fear of magic -A sense of isolationism/stunted emotional maturity She is still struggling with th latter one, but has made strides. She also struggles with self-doubt, and an overly-critical attitude towards herself.
  3. Feel free to message me too ^^ I always enjoy rping with new people
  4. Hello and welcome! One thing I would recommend considering is having an IC class, even though the game allows you to do everything. My char is an archer and martial artist (pgl). Any other class I leave to OOC, b/c I don't want my char to be good at everything =p Hope you find ARR a welcoming home#
  5. Don't overthink it ._. Rp is supposed to be fun. First of all, a Hyur raised Miqo would have a Hyur name. That's lore accurate. Second of all, tribal miqo'te have a full name (take mine for instance) A'kaitis, and a more formal name: she is called Kait, Kat, or Kit. She bears the tribal name above her head, but being raised in Limsa, she has a much more informal approach to her name. She prefers Kat over everything else. So... she could, in fact, bear the tag Kat over her head and still be lore accurate. As long as you know what change you are making, and why you are making it, you're usually ok !
  6. Events are not the best measuring stick for in game rp, because they often are chaotic, with everyone talking at once. I would encourage you to try out some smaller group rp. In game rp can be very rewarding; it just takes some getting used to, as it is very much a different style than forum RP. On the original topic; I've been using copy + paste to get by until the issues are resolved...
  7. 1. Would you be interested in joining a Elezen Rper directory? If so, post: Elezen Name: Isielin Danar'i Elezen clan: Wildwood Gender: Female Looking for?: Primarily, I am looking for Wildwood friends for Izzy, or a Duskie friend/rival Timezone: EST 2. Does your character fit the 'common' lore of your elezen or are they singular? (Eg. Raised by hyur so does not understand X or Y = singular) Isielin was raised in a very traditional Wildwood clan, and knows full well the pride of her people. However, she personally has sought to escape this, and strives to be a much more tolerant, understanding Wildwood 3. What are your Rp limits, if any? (Eg: no permadeath, no ERp etc) No permadeath unless I say so. In fact, combat in general should be discussed some before hand, since there a hundred different styles for it, and the ability for so much to go wrong. For the most part though, I'm game for anything.
  8. I hate it when people rail against 'bad pugs'. We all started somewhere, and if we would just take a moment to share the information we know, instead of developing snarky, condescending attitudes, our world would be full of much stronger players. This type of combat was new to me. I'm used to action mmo's (yes, I'm one of few who have never played WoW). If someone hadn't have taken the time to show me how to actually play my archer, I would have remained frustrated, and may have sought out another game. Now, I'm having a blast. What seems like common sense to one, isn't for another. Don't be a D, and tuck your epeen away and actually help people out for a change. (Not directed at anyone here )
  9. I think the important lesson here is that one should not love on pumpkins. It's not a gourd idea. ((And yeah, I've been having this issue too...))
  10. Yes, I do think about this sort of thing I would never 'demand' a certain level of immersion from anyone, but as for myself, I find it enjoyable. When my character goes to bathe I think; shower? Bath with running water? Bath with supplied water? Bucket that char pours over themselves? River and/or spring? These little things help tip me off about the state of technology in Eorzea in general, and sometimes I'm a little shaky on what does and doesn't exist in ARR
  11. .... multiple linkpearls? You only have two ears, and can join up to eight shells. ... indoor plumbing? Are there showers and flushing toilets in your version of Eorzea? ... travelling from city to city? Do you RP using the aethryte crystals? Or do you RP travel between town as actually taking time? ... electricity? Can my character make a pot of coffee in the morning, or is she sol? More questions to come if I think of them...
  12. Do the best thing then, adopt a child! Perhaps a Duskwight Elezen, seeing as they're the kicking post a lot. Give one a nice good home! Hehe... they did have their eye on adopting a midlander girl, but story circumstances have put that on hold 3 Also, Izzy is a Wildwood, so Duskie child and Keeper mate..... crazy ass family right there
  13. 1-A: I honestly do not OOC this. I let my character dictate their preferences. Although in a lore sense, I will say Wildwoods, Duskies, and Keepers are my favorites 2-A: interracial couples are fine with me, so long as they are rp'd believably. There are inherent difficulties with an interracial couple that should be part of the romance. Such as probable inability to produce offspring, and how they might be perceived by others. 3-A: to an extent, yes. I would be hard pressed to seriously flirt with a Lalafell. Sorry shorties! 1-B: Isielin definitely had a set guideline of preferences going into her story. She would be rather open to a female Miqo'te, Elezen (both races for both) or midlander. For Males she would be pretty receptive to Wildwoods or Midlanders. She ended up with a female Keeper. 2-B: Isielin has never felt bad about her interracial pairing, nor has she seen it as a problem with others. However, she has felt bad about the inability to provide her mate with offspring.
  14. I was open world rping last night, someone who had died, and was lying unconscious near us, whispered me expressing how thankful he was to have overheard our conversation The funny thing is, me and my rp buddy were both healers, and could have helped him with his unconscious problem! Open world RP is rare. Your best bet is to seek out Linkshells, ask for RP in shout, or go to public spaces (such as a tavern in any starter town). If you find open world rp, its likely to be there. In my last game, I ran improv/rp classes for beginners, and even did some of that here during beta. I may take that up again starting this weekend. Send /tell to Isielin Danar'i if interested (i'm on most weeknights) and I'll certainly host gatherings with the express intent on trying to help others learn rp, and make rp connections <3
  15. Tomorrow night 6pm EST? Works for me :3 ((Now I just have to remember... ))
  16. There is a yellow bar that fills up as the mob is 'casting'. If the yellow bar fills up while you are still standing in the ground marker, regardless of the mobs animation, you will get hit. Some mobs cast faster than others. Also, I am sure some of the timings might be off and need tweaking.
  17. You can level up by doing leves or Fates together.
  18. Oh dear. Your character and mine might have an issue ._.
  19. Oh sorry to hear 1017 is still a thing If it's rescheduled in the next couple days, can it be later than 6pm EST? This would be such a perfect event my char, but I work late the next two days.
  20. The best chars, in my mind are those who have 2 or 3 things that make them special. That make them unique. Mine is a topnotch archer. Is she the best? No. Can she certainly hold her own amongst Eorzea's best if there was a competition done RP style? I'd like to think so. To give your character too many gifts and powers, to give a Herculean ability to overcome any obstacle, is not very fun for a lot of people. There are some who really appreciate a DBZ style of ultra-power levels, and that's fine; they have the right to play that way, and to seek others out that play that way. But when people wonder why they aren't getting along well with the community, its because you are trying to get everyone to play your way, instead of making concessions, and compromising to reach a middle ground that creates enjoyment for the majority of the people you interact with. Conversely, there are those who undersell their characters. I have been guilty of this. I'm so worried of making them too powerful, that I strip them of any real power, even though they are supposed to be really good at what they do. Finding a balance, and making your char's actions believable, will open up the widest amount of RP to you, but, in the end its all about you having fun, while still respecting everyone else's right to have fun.
  21. I love this idea and hope I can make it <3 My little Wildwood is such a fan of Gridania
  22. Time to make this a Miyazaki tribute thread =)
  23. It's a great feeling to get swept up into a story like that, no? Here's hoping you have many more moments like that!
  24. Thank God!!!! I thought it was going to say he had died ;__; Retiring I can handle. He has been talking about it for years. Mononke-hime was actually supposed to be his last one, but he kept being lulled back (which I am eternally grateful for, giving that Spirited Away is, imo, one of the best films of all time) After the contributions and dedication he has made to storytelling and to the arts, he deserves some time to rest and reflect at the end of his career, and I wish him all the best. He has had such a profound impact on my own approach to storytelling <3
  25. This is a preference, and I don't see anything wrong with it. For some guilds, size is the important factor. For some players too. As large a group of players to pick from to run endgame, dungeons, or pvp with. Individuals themselves don't matter so much as the quantity. This is not what I look for in a guild at all, but many do, and really have no problem with the larger, 'anything goes' guilds. Those people have every right to go about their recruitment efforts as they see fit. If they truly are spamming their message far too much, you can put them on igmore =)
