  1. Ah yes, I can clearly identify with this. I actually never got to end game in ffxiv, but after hanging out with my FC at the time (not my current one) all summer long pre-launch, I really felt we were going to be a tightknit group that really looked out for one another. Then the disastrous launch happened, and by the time I was able to get into the game, I was no longer part of their crowd. There was a core group of 5-6 who raced ahead and did everything together, while I was pretty much stuck doing everything alone. It was pretty disheartening, and above all, disappointing. After how much time we spent together over the summer rping and whatnot, I really expected a lot from the FC, and what I got instead was a feeling like kicked to the curb. I tried to stick with it in the hopes things would improve, but they did not, and in the end I only subjected myself to more pain. Logging in became a chore. Games should.never feel like that. As many have already stated, best you get out there and look for a group that feels like 'home', rather than having your gaming experience seriously diminished by a place that is a poor fit. I'm sure you can find awesome people to game with!
  2. I'm not sure if I'm totally reading this right, but.... shouldn't they want to include you in static if you're their friend? Or help you get geared up for it? Why wouldn't they make time for you to do these things? It sounds like you're on the outside of a clique. And I'm sorry. I've been there, and it really hurts, and it really sucks. Especially with people considered to be friends.
  3. Very good advice, which I'll second. Allow yourself the freedom to nail down the most important elements of the story pre-launch. When people come into your guild eager to get started, it'll be so much easier to direct them where to go if you've got things pretty squarely figured out. Plus it'll be easier on you than trying to run a guild and hurry up and get the story launched at the same time.
  4. love the concept! I've tried to run similar things, and wish you the best of luck!
  5. I also had a friend put me on to this one, and it looked interesting enough to warrant a look-see
  6. ...awwww, I'm on Begeren Colony Still, if there's a large enough group over there a couple nights a week, I could consider a server transfer. I also agree with what you said with the caveat of; 'fun' is completely in the eye of the beholder. We all want something different from our games... FFXIV failed to deliver an enjoyable experience for me, but I can see why others like it so much. Plus... it helps keep SE in business so yay! I've found that every game has a group of negative critics who focus solely on what the game didn't provide as opposed to what it did. Even though swtor is by far my favorite MMO I've played, I'd still give it a 'B'. MMO's in general just don't seem to deliver everything they could. @Black Hat "Some of us had been trying to get a dedicated SWTOR group together for a night or two a week, Asgarn was one of us and he seemed to need a little break BUT I'm still totally up for SWTOR play." As stated above I'm on Begeren Colony, but would consider rolling on a different server to play a couple nights a week!
  7. I recently moved from here to SWTOR and quite frankly am glad I did. The story in SWTOR is unlike any I've seen in any MMO before (FFXIV's story, by contrast, bored me to tears). I also like the combat quite a bit, which also is rare in MMO's (again, FFXIV's combat was just.... zzzzz) If another MMO coming down the pipeline can replicate SWTOR's storytelling prowess, than definitely I'll check it out, as that's a huge part of me actually liking a game. But that seems rare as most mmos don't seem to want to put in the time or money for quality writing and plots. My only regret is I desperately wish I could transport this community to my new home ._. People here are so much friendlier and social.
  8. Maybe its just me, but i'd never assume someone is IC unless I overheard them rping/emoting o: I had a funny case the other day, in another game, where I remarked to another player OOCly in /say 'oh, what a cute pet!' Only, they took it as me trying to rp with them, and then accidental rp happened :0) it was fun, except the character I was on at the time never would've said 'oh what a cute pet!'
  9. Though I have been burned here, I will say this is hands down the best rp community I've experienced overall. There are bad eggs in every bunch, but a large number of people here seem very genuinely nice and concerned about their fellow rper. Unfortunately, a bit of luck in falling into the right crowd always seems to be a factor, but I wish you success!
  10. There is so much truths to what Ignacius says, I don't even.... I wish more people thought like this. People devour game content so quickly, then sit around clamoring for more.... there are a lot of fun games out there. Learn to spread out your time. It keeps everything more fresh and enjoyable. If you repeat the same action over and over, for hours at a time, without a break.... then yeah. It stops being fun. Starts to feel like work. Work you don't get paid for. This goes for RP too. I have a hard time rping with people who are IC all the time. I can have a fun session of RP with them, take two days off for rl pursuit, then come back to find they have advanced their story so far without me that I'm practically written out of it. Conversely, in my tabletop group, we meet once a week, and I always look forward to it. I know exactly where the story left off, who my character is and what role she fills in relation to the others, and that I'll be an integral part of the story, not just standing around and watching others have fun. #4 of ignacius's post cannot be stressed enough. If the game is no longer fun.... don't force yourself. Its not magically going to become fun again, and a change of scenery is always refreshing.
  11. Do you skype rp? I miss the world of Eorzea, just not the game itself >_>
  12. Oh gosh I would totally do this if I still played the game. What a great idea :3 I might have to 'borrow' this. And by borrow, I mean steal >:3 ((unless you're not cool with that.))
  13. Like... a LOT. More than I care to mention. The ability to actually bring people into a story is a lost art >_>. And whenever I request to be thrown a bone, I get the'not here to hold hands' excuse. Oooookay. So I'm supposed to pick up a book, flip to chapter 12, and know exactly what's going on? But yeah, as stated in #3 of Tier's guide, OOC communication can go a long way to alleviating any and all problems. OOC communication is basically the equivalent of tabletop players asking for clarification of the staged scene, so they better know how to interact with it.
  14. Well gee, allow me to be the first one to say welcome! *gives cookies*
  15. +1 Tier, Sil'tel (I like waffles too), and especially Oak. ^ So much this. This is my biggest pet peeve in rp. Being invited to join a group, or rping with someone, and all they can talk about are the great adventures they shared together. GIVE ME SOMEBLOODY CONTEXT PEOPLE!! You've given me absolutely no reason to care ICly or OOCly, I need to care about you, the character, before I give two bits about your exploits. The counterargument I hear sooo many times is 'I'm not here to hold hands'. Noooo.... you're not. But you are responsible for giving others a reason to actually want to interact with you, andself-glamorization and/or confusing the hells out of them (and me, OOCly), does not accomplish this.
  16. I completely forgot about this too :c *sigh*
  17. This is pretty much the only way I could actually enjoy pvp I hate the epic displays of epeen-ness, and my class is broken rants that seem to accompany all pvp, everywhere, and so typically avoid it like the plague. But this sounds like it could be a fun way to approach it.
  18. I agree with CK that dice is the way to go. Freeform has never worked satisfactorily for me, as people rp well beyond their strengths and IC capabilities. I also agree with his weighted dice system, though obviously you would have to kbow the combatants ahead of time to fairly assess their abilities, and they in turn would have to trust your fairness as DM
  19. I am a bit perplexed by people's fascination of having their Miqo'te adopted by Hyur, though. And for the life of me, I can't remember a single one where the character in question was adopted by a race other than Hyur. I'm not saying that no one's character should be adopted by a Hyur at all. What I'm confused by is the fact that a lot of those adopted Miqo'te are being RPed just like humans (that or the player may be using this adoption to justify why the Miqo'te is disconnected from their culture/dislikes tribal Miqo'te/whatever). Do some feel as though their catgirl or catboy has to be adopted by a human to act like a human? Why do they have to be adopted at all to act or think any sort of way? Can they not just act the way they do or have the preferences that they do because they choose to? @Naih: I completely disagree. I think in the current world of Eorzea there are many, many, many examples of npc miqo'te who currently reside in city-states who no longer seem to be part of any tribe, for whatever reason. Things in the city-states very much seem to be cultural melting pot. If people want to play tribal kitties thats great! If, however, they want to play more worldly kitties, that's great too, and adoption is an easy solution to that. There is no 'correct' way to play any one race, as that would be limiting and cookie cutter, and make for rather boring rp. @Kismet: I actually have never played a human in any mmo I've ever played before b/c I considered it boring. One of my goals when I started FFXIV was to change that. I wanted the 'challenge' of playing average joe race, and somehow make it interesting. Only, none of the midlander looks appealed to me at ALL. I next looked at making a miqo'te, a seeker. But the lore for them absolutely didn't interest me in the slightest. Sooo.... since I wanted the challenge of playing human but didn't like their look, but like the look of seeker but yawned about their lore... why not make a hyur kitty? I knew going in it was an oft used trope, but so what? RP is about having fun. And for the record, I have another seeker who is Roegadyn adopted
  20. I mained an Elezen for awhile, and played the whole 'ermahgawd, Miqo's everywhere! So unoriginal!' game. But then I rolled a Miqo too. I found they have the best emotes, the best proportions, are pretty much tailor made to wear the clothes FFXIV offers, and can be pretty fun to rp as well. My character was hyur raised, (cliche, I know) but definitely fits in the energetic, spritely catergory, (I liken her to a hyper-active pinball) which quite honestly I have not seen a lot of in the rp world. I've seen a lot of stoic, or grumpy, or 'sex kitten', or tribal, but I have not seen a lot of unending, bottomless well of energy like my character Claire. And no, she hasn't ever said 'nya' or rolled her r's >_> The only thing she excels at is baking. That's it. She's not a fighter, even though a lot of people try to make her be one, she's just an average teenager trying to figure out what to do with her life, whether that be cooking, baking, or writing plays (her other hobby) Oh, and somehow she ended up getting an Office Administration job . She's unique enough to me that she is fun to play, and that's all that really matters.
  21. Those are all rather helpful suggestions all What I ended up doing was along the lines of npcing involved parties and writing them out, and moving on ^^ But my point is I think people initially got up in arms over the lack of clear communication here, which has since been remedied. Maybe they had had similar experiences to mine and were merely trying to protect fellow rpers *shrug* And maybe they were taking the IC story personally. I've seen villain types struggle before in this community (exact opposite of my last community), and there have been a number of threads on this site detailing the lack of unsavory characters.
  22. Implicit consent is a slippery slope that leads to situations exactly like the one that is being debated. Dark and manipulative rp can lead to characters becoming broken and unplayable (as has happened to me), and suck the fun out of the entire process. After finding out an IC friend (and I thought OOC friend) was scheming to rape one of my characters without consent, I was faced with retconning entire months worth of rp, or putting that character on the shelf for awhile (I chose the latter). People can be inconsiderate and rude when planning these types of stories, and OOC communication is VITAL to avoid any sort of backlash or misunderstanding (both of which have happened in this thread) Your actions DO impact the enjoyment of those around you, sometimes ruining what had been a very enjoyable endeavor to that point. I have seen it often where people get so wrapped up in telling their stories that they crash through other people's stories with the grace of a wrecking ball.(cue Miley Cyrus)
  23. I will certainly try to make it on one of my two healer characters
  24. No, I agree completely T'la. Like I said he seems quite the unsavory character, and would gladly join in on the 'kicking of his Nuhn parts'
