Welcome! I really like the idea of ur LS! I wish I had a character concept for it!
-
This sat., 13th @ 2:30 pm EST, I will be looking to host an event (provided there is enough interest) geared towards helping new rpers, those looking to shake the rust off, and those seeking to meet others in the community. IC Details Claire Fortain, aspiring playwright, has sent flyers around Gridania recruiting actors of all types to try out for her traveling actor's troupe The Healing Winds. All will have a chance to run scenes under Claire's direction. OOC Details This event is geared towards new rpers. By 'acting' out scenes, you get to practice what rp is all about. There will be plenty of OOC (out of character) help, to give everyone the understanding they seek. All players of all rp experience levels are encouraged to attend. This is not an actual 'tryout' for anything, that is merely the premise of the rp event, so no pressure! I will happily field any questions people have during the event if you send me a tell. Hope to see some fresh faces there!

As a member of the Knights of the Twelve, it would be interesting to see, and to interact with this group. Kind of the shadow of our group...

I'll post later, am unable to on my tablet And yea i'll go wait for the countdown this time Thanks for sharing, i always find these fun!
-
Hello and welcome! Balmung and Gilgamesh are the two rp servers. I'd love to rp with you anytime
-
I chose the colors in the way Isielin would have chosen them. Additionally, I did not wait for the countdown, because Isielin is a girl of action/slightly impatient. However, the dna test was quite accurate
-
Hmm... both the color and animal test were way off for me

With the surprise 5 day beta coming up, I would very much like to run one of these events this Sat. July 13th @ 2:30 pm EST (so that EU can attend too) on Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is my beta 3 home only, I'll be in Balmung once OB hits. I will make an official event post in the appropriate section tomorrow, but the details will be this; IC (In character) **Claire Fianti, an aspiring playwright, has handed out flyers all across Gridania asking those with acting aspirations to assemble, and try out for her acting troupe; The Healing Winds. She requires characters of all types and walks of life, so do not be shy! Come one, come all! OOC (Out of Character) Essentially, Claire will be running 'acting tryouts' enabling those who wish to attend ICly to do so, and those who are more comfortable attending OOCly to do so as well. You can treat this as canon (part of your character's lore) or as non-canon as you see fit. All who wish to participate will be given time to do so; you will be given scenes and directions by Claire, and therefore will be able to practice RP to your hearts content. The only two requests I have is that those who attend OOCly please address their questions in brackets ((like this)) or send me a tell. My second request is that any with an interest in assisting the running of this event, please message me on this site. Thank you and good day! Hope to see many there! And again, an official event post will be made in the next couple of days. Kupo! :moogle:

Well, realistically, most people wouldn't be talking much during fights anyway, unless it was to trash talk, or communicate important information between each other. It's between the fights that you might have little talks, while not letting them delve into Shakespearean monologues, because in the heart of a dungeon you want to keep the action and adrenaline flowing

If your English is anything like your post, then you have nothing to worry about! You're very clear, and a hearty welcome to the RPC!

It's just simple growing pains. Gilgamesh has left the nest. They want to establish themselves, so they are trying to be upfront and vocal in their efforts to grow their rp base. Which frankly, smarts for those who didn't want to see them go. The pain is still fresh. The last thing these people want to see when they log onto the RPC is another post detailing all the great things Gilgamesh will do. Because frankly, no one ever asked them to leave. Some probably have taken it personally, a judgement on their efforts to create an inclusive environment for all on Balmung. The truth of the matter is; no one on Balmung did anything wrong, and people on Gilgamesh are just excited at creating something fresh and new, and inherently theirs on Gilgamesh. The two servers can coexist peacefully, but it takes time to heal the wounds of a painful split. It's like a relationship breakup where you agree to be friends, but want nothing to do with each other for the first month or so. Eventually, both sides will remember what brought them to this site to begin with; love of RP. At which point members of both sides will reach across the aisle and shake hands. tl;dr: just give it time, mmkay?

OOh, thanks for this. I haven't been to OCRemix in years. Still listen to their Thieves of Fate album a bit tho

This weekend is still phase 3 beta right? I'm unsure if I'll be able to run one this weekend. However, anyone is free to add me in game and if I'm on we can try to schedule an impromptu meetup If this weekend is phase 3 i'll be on gilgamesh

I think there would be mages of all different powers in Eorzea, depending in their aptitude and years of study; from those who could barely light a fireplace, to those unable to control their talents, to highly powerful Gandalf types. Its all in how much detail you put into your character, making the how and why of their powers believable. FfXIVs unique class change system opens the door for warriors and lancers who would also be skilled at magic, but for every strength a character has, I feel there should be an equal opposing weakness.

Greetings! Its too bad you can't play a lalafell with cat ears and a tail, then you'd be all set
-
Proudly playing a female Elezen (someone needs to get that cat population under control )

I am so happy to see so much enthusiasm over this! Since it is unknown when Open Beta is (unless I missed an announcement) I will try to get a Skype chatroom going for July, in which we'll try to get the ball rolling. Kupo!

Poor Roegas getting no <3 so far

Well, the reason I prefer non-canon is that this idea is essentially for those (but not only those) who don't even have a canon yet! They don't fully know what rp is all about, how to go about making good character backstories, they may have some lore questions... a lot of stuff that may have to be handled OOC as well. I don't know that there is a way to have it be part of canon, given the nature of the event, which is to provide rp support/help, which doesn't really fit complete IC. If you think of an acting improv class, while the actors are doing a scene, they are completely IC. Afterwards, they discuss things OOC, and may adjust their IC personalities in future scenes, as they play around and experiment with things they like and don't like. It's a stress-free environment for people to try out and learn things before they commit to; 'yea, I think this is who my character is'. EDIT: However, you raise an interesting point, that people will want to see activities regarding different things. As such, activities will be clearly labelled ahead of time as Beginner or Intermediate, and Canon or Non-Canon. For instance, we could have an event that is purely a Canon meet n greet; or a contest of some sort, in which there would be legitimate RP reasons to be there and treat it as Canon. Wish I could explain it better, sorry
-
The idea is to break our immersion just enough to indulge in some light RP, that will help others get a taste of what it's all about. So though I plan to be IC, it will be non-canon.

Ack!!!" Details details.... *starts to sweat profusely, while scribbling like mad on a notepad* Server: Balmung Times: Unspecified weeknight, 9 or 10 EST for NA crowd Sundays, early for EU crowd (so 2 classes every 2-3 weeks) Skype: An OOC channel to discuss all things RP in realtime (details to come) IC channel? (Undecided) Locations: In the beginner towns, since this is (primarily, but not exclusively) who this for! Purpose: To explore, and participate in, various types of exercises and discussions that study the many methods and styles of RP all in an effort to learn together, strenghten our community, and improve our RP confidence snd enjoyment!
-
Ooh, good idea! I'll get on that! @yeoman: very cool! I hope you find it to your liking!
-
Hey, you! Yes, you! Ever wondered what rp is all about? Ever wanted to get a taste of it, but didn't know where to start? Experienced rper, but always struggle to break into communities? Then you've come to the right place c: At the start of open beta, I will be seeking to host bi-weekly RP improv sessions specifically tailored to the new, the shy, and the rp-curious. These events revolve around you! There is no goal in sight other than to help you get your foot (or paw) in the door, and become a part of our community! Through a series of RP practice scenes, discussions, and meeting new people, we'll all start to get comfortsble with each other, and how to interact ICly. All who wish to participate get their turn to be the star of the show! Better yet, there is absolutely no pressure to 'get it right' as these are for fun practice scenes. We all learn and grow together! I hope to partner with the RPC Mentorship Program (and any others who are interested) to get this venture launched off the ground, but by helping you get to where you want to go RP-wise, you help us by spreading RP love all across Eorzea! Keep the RP flowing strong! (More details will be forthcoming)
-
One of the things I've noticed that rp communities tend to forget, is that large scale server events absolutely do not reach out to the shy people who share our world. The intention is good, but it is not the appropriate venue for very important people in our community! Thankfully, the RPC has a really sweet RPC mentorship program you should check out. Also, once the game officially launches, I may (based on interest level) hold bi-weekly improv sessions geared specifically towards reaching out to the shy, new rpers, or even non-rpers. These events hold no pressure to get the rp right, b/c they are completely for fun, and for learning more about rp together. Hope to se you in game!

@Aysun: ahhhh consequences *__* (eyes sparkle with rapt attention) yeah I know what you mean. Its disappointing when things carry over negatively into OOC, particularly when the IC is going so good. Which touches a little upon OP's message; RP is meant to be fun. If its upsetting you, one may be putting too much of their OOC selves into it, and may need to take a step back.
