  1. That sounds like a really cool initiative. If there is one thing that is hard to achieve in that game, it's bringing up various FCs to RP together, or just getting out of one's own FC...
  2. It all depends how close you are willing to play to cat-like behavior I would say. It's up to you and your interpretation really!
  3. Thanks for the RP connection again. Raih might have gained an admirer in the process, weirdly enough!
  4. Wasn't that post like... 2 years old? Ah anyway, it makes me think... I think we might also have to temper a bit the fact that mi'qote females are "breeding machines". Not that anyone is saying that of course. But I think proportionally they maybe mate even less than hyur or us IRL... Mathematically, if you have even just 1 male for 4 females (which seems to be even wider a gap here right?), that means if males start to mate with every female all the time, your population will grow like rabbits and they would already have taken over the world... Unless they have ludicrous casualty rates. That's also why I guess for Seekers, the nuhn being the only one allowed to do so probably tempers that a lot. As for Keepers, wandering males not being constantly around families that are primarily female sororities, it probably also limits that seriously as well. I like that idea since it makes the arrival of a (rare) male a certain opportunity for a keeper family and can create a lot of interesting cultural ceremonies or special things to happen during that time. Of course on the other hand there can also be the argument that their culture focus a lot more on that particular aspect since they need males, and males are rare, so they would do it even more to compensate...? I think those can be valid questions, and maybe vary greatly from clan to clan? Maybe i'm wrong though...
  5. Ah well I think we may be misunderstanding each other there. Nowhere I claim they do not have feline traits. Actually, it's written in the basic lore description. I took that for granted since day one, and yet, you really have to look for it to see clear allusion to "feline traits". The first one is just the general non official wiki, and the second ones actually speaks about the tails and eyes, not even the whole. And even for the tails and ears honestly, half of them visually are as much as canine than feline ingame... So... yeah. Now then, i'm not going to nitpick around that as it's rather obvious that a certain part of the visual and fluff for the graphic depiction of the race has feline characteristics. I don't think anyone tried to deny that. I may also have overlooked or don't remember various tidbits encountered in the story or sidequests that depicted them as feline as well, either obvious hints or whatever else. The thing i'm contesting however, is that people tend to assume out of very, very little clear allusions to specifically feline things (the lodestone allusion to tails, seekers eyes, hissing sounds for the names maybe?), and again, things I don't contest here since it's written in the lodestone, that because of those few specific feline things, everything about the race therefore HAS TO follow the wonderful world of cats. Territorial behaviour? Cats yes, but dogs, even more. Lone, reclusive wandering males? Wolves, not cats. Alpha males and fights for mating? Lions, true, especially for seekers, but also wolves, etc. Even that put apart, there is a strong layer of metaphor and transposition too. We are not speaking about cats, we are speaking about a human race that isn't elezen, hyur, etc, but mi'qote. Some of their cultural traits are inherited from felines, or else, but never on a literal level. Never at all. That's a disservice to the lore, and I find it a bit disingenuous, or wishful thinking. Do they purr? Maybe, not stated anywhere. Do they hiss? Not really, only stretched clue could be the 'h' in their naming conventions. Doesn't mean that they hiss at hostile people. Do they spit? Not seen any allusion to that. I could go on and on, really. Now then, you are free to do whatever you like interpretation wise of course. I'm certainly not going to tell you how to roleplay them, and if that's what floats your boat, go for it! I'm just trying to explain my point of view here, and how I think people are making a lot of assumptions.
  6. Ah funny for me it's the contrary... I never got how you get to create templates and where they are stored and accessed...
  7. :? No offense but do you... "get" animals? I'm reminded of the infamous Pokemon "Legendary cats/dogs/beasts" argument, but... not realizing miqo'te are distinctly feline... ?????????? In any case I agree with some of the stuff mentioned late in this thread. I feel like people who don't want to say miqo'te are feline are people embarrassed by the cliches and such but still want to play one for some reason. Which is pretty silly. They're catpeople. They're some of the most catlike people in any anime/game out there. Their emotes are feline, their attitude in speech boxes is littered with catlike behavior, their culture is feline, the list goes on. They're obviously catlike, what's up for debate is to what extent. In Ashe's case she absolutely hisses and purrs and has a habit of wrapping her tail around another of her race when being affectionate. We've got the eyesight thing. Hearing, scenting, etc. She doesn't fill her speech with "nyas" and mews or whatever else. But I mean, she's a cat person. Of course she's going to act like a bloody feline. Whao, whoa there, let's drop the assumptions for a moment. I have animals and i'm pretty much attached to them... I don't care the slightest what they are inspired from ultimately. I'm repeating what lore shows to me, and lore doesn't show me more feline stuff than anything else beside the eyes of the Seekers. Maybe I missed something obvious though? Do you have any NPC in mind that would prove me wrong? Ultimately I see a race of men with tails and ears with unique habits and culture. Do they go around the night purring and calling for mates? Do they perch themselves on roofs while mewling? Do they pee everywhere to mark their territory? Well, maybe, but I have yet to see than portrayed in game... I can find as many differences as you would find similarities. So equating them to mere cat-people is doing the lore a great, great disservice I think, where they seem to be a lot more than just that. As for animations, seriously, they look more moe to me than any actual animal behaviour... If your cats are behaving that way with such manners, i'm wondering where they come from... And let's be honest, that's pure fan service here. Note: cats do not have a monopoly on scent, eyesight, powerful legs, etc.
  8. Ah thanks for the clarification, that's what I thought. I don't mind much and i'm already happy with my thing. I like to experiment with the graphic side of things. I was already surprised that the wiki allowed such liberty.
  9. I can't sadly offer you any good opportunity since my character is designed in a purely supportive character way, but RP is always an option. Although she might not be of great help since she spends her time being a bit lost herself, the more obscure the things, the more she will be interested, so you bet exotic Doman stuff would.
  10. Let's say saturday or sunday 2-3th, 21:00 GMT? Or 15:00 GMT works for me too. In both cases it lets me some room to run it for several hours. Priority will be given to people that never ran it of course since it's a session to discover it, but for now I don't see many of them so... In any case if we find ourselves too numerous i'm sure we can split into several groups.
  11. Scratch next week end, I totally forgot that i'm away too...
  12. Well for now I think i'm more limited by the template i'm based on ("fancy template") that doesn't allow me several little things, like rounding the corners of the headers for titles, removing the circle icon next to them, changing the look of the fancylist template the way I want, etc. I suppose I would have to recreate my own like you did, or just outright getting rid of those annoying wiki templates and go full CSS (div is good, div is life), but... :effort: and :time: Ah yes, the main weird issue i'm having right now is that the background-image doesn't seem to work. Maybe the wiki doesn't allow background images?
  13. Personally, if the lore never stated in the mi'qote description "feline characteristic", and seeker did not have those eyes, I would never especially have said "THOSE ARE CAT PEOPLE!". If anything, I might even have turned to canines rather than felines... I even thought at first that Keepers were inspired by the former. To me it's of little consequence in fine, since they are primarily one of the many human races, with specific societal ways that are neither cat nor dog ways.
  14. I'm thinking about next Saturday or Sunday (26-27th), would something like 20:00 GMT work? The time to set up, start the thing... Or if it's too close to christmas and hazardous then, another week end... Oh I will be asleep way before 9:00 pm PST, don't worry.
  15. Heh, glad I'm not the only one that hates the 100% width wikis! I've made a template that you can use for this: https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Template:MelodieContained Well yeah, I worked a bit with css styles and web design so, i'm wondering why I didn't even think about that myself... Maybe because of wiki styles that always seem to get in the way. Edit: that's funny now... Just noticed many wiki profiles that were probably taken from mine at various points of its development, which is rather amusing haha. I'm leaving a trail on the wiki already.
  16. Yeah, so that mostly goes in the way I was thinking... Do we have confirmation that they might use magitek gimmicks for their aetheric manipulation as a substitute to conjury, thaumathurgy, etc? That would sound pretty logical considering that they already do it for reaper armours and every other armament of their arsenal...
  17. Keepers share some of the traits shown by wolf packs yes (especially wandering unpaired males that mate with promiscuity with unpaired females of some packs before moving to another). But Keepers also do not seem to share the "paired for life" monogamous lifestyle shown by wolves, especially considering the ratio of males (if anything, males are more numerous in wolves, which tends to the opposite). Though maybe, could it be argued that each Keeper family (being of similar size to wolf packs) actually has one sedentary alpha male staying with the matriarch, while all the other males are de facto wanderers?
  18. Well everyone is welcome! Tank DPS heals... Not a big issue if we don't get a correct group compo, as long as we can align enough tanks and heals to run through it... If we get too many heals and tanks, not a big deal, they can DPS too anyway, considering how outdated the series is... I'm not sure if only one tank is enough for the whole thing? Same for heals? Do we need 2 of each? If we can get that core group, all is fine. I would like to setup a date... Which would probably be a week end so that we can have more freedom to gather the most people. Probably EU evening, which should cover morning and afternoon for the US... Also, no spoilers until the end at all will be the only non negotiable rule, of course.
  19. Hello, that's a very nice theme. I don't want to copy, as I also want my own thing, and I see that you used a lot of the "fancy template" that I use too... I would like to use the same page padding layout that prevents the whole wiki not to stretch on the whole width of the page... Would that be possible? Just the div tag used to frame the page, and that's it.
  20. On using conjury even without having set a foot in the Shroud: I don't think that conjury is a restricted art only found in the Twelveswood. Garlean soldiers seem to use similar class distinctions in their own troop makeup, with gladiators, lancers, thaumathurges, pugilists, and so forth... and conjurers. I may be wrong though, but I suspect all the magic they use is rather used through magitek gimmicks and doodads rather than a martial art for which you have to show natural predispositions...
  21. I think that the writers often fall into the same trap as us, sometimes forgetting that the setting is different than our own modern reality. Especially when FFXIV tries to still emulate that modern reality through anachronisms like people sunbathing at Costa Del Sol, etc. I of course would have played an illiterate character if it was not such a central part to the concept behind mine... On that, I can't unfortunately make any concession on the matter. She is a brain more than an everyday muscle, which puts her at odds with much of those Gridanian pragmatic gardeners.
  22. I'm not against an unsynced group with fewer members if there is not really many of us interested, though... Not sure what is the minimum requirement for that though.
  23. Just being able to run Bahamut's Coil to completion at least once in my life...
