Marcy

I loooooove this thread I love stories behind character concepts. My character names are mostly self-referential jokes. I get inspired by songs and movies and Marcy's FFXIV incarnation came out of frustration over not knowing how to frame his motivations until someone told me to "just write Ryan Gosling from Drive, it will be funny" (Drive being the kind of movie people reference to be ~edgy and ~cool). Now he turned out to be a much different character through growth and interaction but there are still a lot of similarities and themes between him and the Driver. Marcellain is a variation on Marcellus, which means "hammer". There is a really famous hammer scene I won't link here because of graphic content, but that's it that's the joke. Also it's a play on Mars, referencing those similar anger/wrath themes again. Chevallier is his family name because of their connection to the Twin Adders.

Marcy is a lit fuse -- without proper contacts or guidance, he's prone to doing stupid things that will inevitably get him murdered or worse. I'm not fond of drama-drawing and playing "injury of the week", I like these things to have impact. He's up for killing if there's extensive consent on both parties' side, and if the characters and players he is involved with agree.

Hi friends! So I've seen this ran on a couple of forums, I don't think there has been one posted here yet (if so let me know). The rules are pretty simple: someone posts their character with references to draw from, the person posting after them draws that character (so someone below me would draw Marcy-- but since it's the first post you definitely do not have to!), and the person after them draws the person above them, and so on. Let me know if this sounds confusing! Some guidelines: - Any skill levels and mediums and artists are welcome. This is a DOODLE thread, though, so please no screenshot edits, graphics, writing, poems, limericks, etc. - Please don't post unless you know you will be able to finish the piece! I'd say that as far as current MMOs go, XIV's PVE community is by far one of the easiest to work with. I've tanked in Wrath and healed in Cata, I've ran high mode dungeons and fractals in GW2, I've tried Wildstar and I've played a fair bit of TSW. Right now I'm power leveling a tank so I can help out my friends. I'm a horrible fratboy min-maxer (still laughing like a 12 year old @BBC) when it comes to most games, but that's solidly because I want my groups to do well. I've helped lead guilds, and I know how hard it is to get your own thing running -- but by far it is the best way to get anything off the ground. I think the main thing people forget when approaching MMOs and especially end-game content that it is a game, and if it's not fun you can walk away and pick up a billion other games floating out there. We are in an over-saturated market where MMOs are rapidly dying, and there is a reason the MOBA style gameplay is more appealing over others: time commitment and shorter relationships with players. There is also a reason a lot of us still prefer MMOs, and it would be good for everyone not to forget that.

Oh man I LOVE older elezen characters and older characters in general, Jeantremont sounds amazing. They're just about the only people Marcy has unquestionable respect for (if they lived that long in Eorzea they have got to be either very clever or very scary), and Ishgardian past is something that can come into interesting play. Marcy also gets beat up a lot and refuses magical healing, so if you're down with making Jean a semi-permanent alchemical aid for this ginger idiot I am all in. Marcy's also used to being annoying and overly talkative, so despite his very low-key racism he could work with pretty much anyone c: Let me know who you feel like, I love both of these characters and can think of a hook if needed. II. RP Style I'm a medium-to-light RPer, and by this I mean I am not IC 100% of the time and I do not use every aspect of my in-game character as IC gospel, more of an inspiration. I seriously love to write, but I don't like to take things too seriously -- I goof off a lot and I have a very firm line between IC and OOC. I am not my character, and my character's opinions and feelings are not my own. I value realistic, flawed, sympathetic characters and this is what I write best. Most of them are not good people. Views on RP combat and injuries: Consent > content. I am all about writing the best story that's the most fun in the end, so I do not mind my characters injured. I do not PVP-rp fight, and I do not do rolls except for critical/chance stuff. Normally, we'd need to be writing for a pretty long time for me to be comfortable writing a combat scene. Whisper me before planning for any of this. Views on IC romance: Whatever happens in story happens, if it makes sense it makes sense. I don't specifically pursue IC romance and I do not do commitments; all my characters are written this way. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Marcy has a huge extended family of Elezen gingers. If you'd like to bounce ideas about a distant relative, feel free to ask me! I like all kinds of RP, again, story is king in this case. Views on lore: I'm new to XIV lore and the game, so please feel free to correct me if I get something wrong! Marcy is pretty sheltered and ignorant about the world so a lot of the times I learn things as he does. I'm in general lore-flexible, I like expanding on fanons and using lore as a springboard for new ideas. I'm not fond of the English localization speech -- while I don't mind other players using "anyroad" and the like, I do not. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Whisper me before RPing if you catch me in game -- stuff gets lost in /say, especially in cities. Hi all!! I am super fresh to the website, but I have been lurking for some time. I'm trying to find more connections on Marcy, my walking Elezen disaster. At the present, he's looking for jobs and HEROICS. Some services provided include, but are not limited to: Rescuing small household pets from heights. Professional bar pick-up repellent. Short distance escort missions. Debt reclamation. Overturning the proletariat. Marcy is a criminal-turned-vigilante, or at least he Tries. Despite his genuine desire to do good, he's prone to bad decisions and accidents and gravitating towards awful people. He is young and stupid, and will go along with almost everything that is not obviously morally reprehensible. He is mortified of murder. He is very good at hurting people. He used to offer services as an archer that helped orchestrate heist escapes for other criminals. He no longer does this, nor does he beat up small business owners, but past has a tendency to crawl back. Despite this, I will highlight that he is a good-aligned character. I am open to having his ideals and hopes obliterated, but I want to build those up first. He is talented and capable, but the only thing he is really, really good at is shooting arrows and being stubborn. I'm looking for small, fun scenes with a possibility of building something bigger later; I would also love to establish some past and current contacts (AND POSSIBLE FANS FROM HIS BOY BAND ERA...). I'm on most evenings (PST); and Marcy is mostly found around Ul'dah. Not looking for romantic interests or hook-ups atm. Am looking for possible past flings he swindled for food and clothes without ever putting out. :cactuar:
