Hmm. =) That's neat. I feel like maybe two days isn't quite enough time for people to get a feel for if they want to come back/try the game, but it's something. I'd give'em a longer period. Maybe not something quite as long as the recent 'Return to Vana'diel Campaign' that FFXI had, but .. Still, neat. Quick edit: Wow. It was late last night when I read this. The free weekend is three days, not two.

I, sir, take offense! Siobhain is sexy! She's super sexy! She's just... a certain type of sexy. Isn't it up to us to maybe Roegadyns more sexy? Can't say for Elezen since I don't play one. Lost River... Let's have both our Roes be caught in Ul'dah and sold off as slaves. I think it'd be pretteh fantastic. Lost: Oh nuuuu~! No, seriously, hands off or I magic you into the next life. Sio: HULK SMASH! Siobhain and Lost, you two are amazingly very interesting to watch on the forums and agree that Roegadyns and Elezen's can and are sexy, just depends on the person. As for the Miqo'te's and how they are done. Just remember, how you RP your character is up to you, Lore wise we really don't have much say in it, but that's lore we are just along for the ride and have fun while doings so. You don't need to be a whore or a slave to some person, plenty of them aren't and plenty of them would just as well kill a male for trying haha. Miqo'te's as a race aren't as reserved about this as the other races, and what you got to mostly remember in the times that this word is sort of based on. It was much the same as in our earlier times, and back them "companions" where in many culture's well respected... and some slaves in culture's were as well, if they brought their Master profit that is. In response to the .. whole conversation .. coming from a snippet of my post, I was more talking about NPC Elezen and Roegadyn. Because I do think more than just the Miqo'te are sexy.

It does bother me sometimes. But what actually bothers me is the overt nature of it all. Like the Hyur Highlander captain who is obviously banging twin Miqo'te women in Highbridge. Isabela from Dragon Age 2 sometimes had more subtle innuendo than that. I like that XIV has a mature vibe to it. Like how pirates in Limsa Lominsa aren't romanticized to be anything more than ale-drinking, foul-mouthed cutthroats, and don't sugarcoat what they do to their captive women. But it seems that a lot of the dialogue and events surrounding the Miqo'te are just all about them being prostitutes and pleasure flesh. There's nothing there (that I've seen) that builds on the scant amount of lore we know about them. But maybe that's true for all the races. To be fair, there was that one quest in Costa del Sol to talk to some dancers on the beach, and all races (except Lalafell) were represented. I dunno. I would have less of a problem with it if it was actually part of the lore that Miqo'te tribes were promiscuous or that slave culture was part of their lives. But as it is, it's just fan service. Don't get me wrong, I love me some fan service. I guess I just want some variety. Why aren't the Elezen or Roegadyn allowed to be sexy? Spread the wealth.

I haven't done much customizing yet. I usually customize over time as I notice things I would like to change, and then I look for an option to change it. So far I've only resized the chat window, increased the font from 12 to 14, and changed it so that the white HP bar over my character's head never appears (it kept getting in the way of mobs, and I want to see their animations). Oh, and made a fourth tab for private chat text (party, tells). Eventually I might add a second chat window for private stuff instead of keeping it as a fourth tab. And maybe a second, smaller window for combat stuff. I might also disable (if it's possible) the damage numbers from other players. I think I'll also (again if it's possible) put the hotbars closer together. Right now I have the default 1 and 2 hotbars showing, but they are kinda farther apart than I am used to.

3:00-5:30pm PDT. Thanks for the info. I was wondering this myself. Time for another nap! .. or maybe catching up on some other game before XIV swallows me whole.

If bringing down the servers is what it takes to fix the issues, I'm all for it. .. besides, after almost six straight hours, maybe a break (and some food .. and some sleep) isn't such a bad idea.

I think I would ramble on way too long if I talked about what FF means to me as a whole. The story of what Eorzea means to me is long enough. Back in 2010 I built a new computer just to play FF XIV 1.0. And it was such a letdown on almost every conceivable level. I felt like the extra money I shelled out for the Collector's Edition was a complete waste. Bitterly, I eventually told myself I was glad to have spent the money to be able to experience first-hand such a failure, such a blemish on the Final Fantasy legacy. But it was FF14's abysmal launch that took me back to Vana'diel, the world of FFXI. I had always loved FFXI a lot, but the game's soul-crushing difficulty, obtuse objectives, and countless hurdles and roadblocks always kept me from enjoying it like I wanted. Well .. hah .. FFXI is still quite hard, even though I consider myself rather hardcore. But by this time, a lot of things had been put in place to make the game more solo-friendly and easier over all. I started a new account because the account I made at FFXI's launch many years ago was long gone. I bought the Ultimate Edition and started all over on a new server. With things like the Fields of Valor, I was able to make progress in Vana'diel at an even clip and explore the world and the story like I had always wanted to. It was a great time. *engaging sappy mode* And it was here that I met my current girlfriend, who I've known for about three years and have been with for two. If FF14 had not been so terrible the first time around, I never would've met her nor would I have explored Vana'diel and taken a lot of the story campaigns to completion. I never thought FF14 would amount to anything. I never thought SE would be able to salvage Eorzea. I never thought, with SWTOR and GW2 around the corner, that the community would survive. But Yoshi-P and his dev team, and the fans that supported FF14 since the beginning, have accomplished the impossible. It's been so fascinating to watch ARR's development--the level of transparency has blown me away. In a way I'm humbled by the dedication the 1.0 players showed, because now Eorzea is a place I will be proud to call home for a long time to come. That 1.0 CE purchase was money well-spent.

Hello. I just thought I'd post a heads-up since there's been some discussion about patch sizes and stuff. I play on the PC, and when this thread first went up I had a measly 1.9 MB update (seemed like a launcher update). But just now (about 8:25 PM CST) I ran the launcher and I'm downloading a 1,035.90 MB update after signing in with my password and everything. So I suppose it wouldn't hurt checking to see if there is a download available.

I'm really ancy to own my own house. But .. looks like a lot of patience and farming will be required. Still, that's my ultimate end-game goal. .. I think I already said that somewhere in another post. I'd love to be able to tend to a garden or something, too. Maybe wishful thinking, but having a farm would be nice~ That could just be the Harvest Moon kick I'm on talking.

Cool. Thanks for the heads-up. It's easy for me to dream big and imagine what the future of FF XIV holds, but things like this remind me that a lot of hard work goes into just making things functional. But I have every confidence that these issues will be resolved.

Balmung is my server of choice, and I'll likely start RPing once I get 'settled' in. I managed to get to 15 MRD during Phase 4 (because I wanted to start in Limsa Lominsa), but there are a couple other classes I want to get to 15 (or CNJ at the very least) before I start leveling my 'main' class, GLD. Once I'm able to level Gladiator is probably about when I'll start actively RPing, though if I happen to fall into any kind of RP situation beforehand I'll give it a shot.

The Rise and Fall of the White Raven
Noble_Einherjar replied to LiadansWhisper's topic in RP Discussion
One of the things I appreciated most (though the whole thing was amazing) was learning a little about Gaius Van Baelsar, who is seemingly the main villain for now. I like that there is some depth to his character, that it's more than just 'I work for the evil empire and therefore am evil'. -
Guh .. every new thing released for FF XIV makes the wait that much more unbearable. I'm glad Odin is in the game, but every time I see him it makes me think of Garland. I want him to be in the game, too. Though I can't decide if his appearance would be redundant, or a good fit into the Garlemald Empire. According to a blog post on the FF14 website, we may be seeing Gilgamesh in the future, too.

I just remembered having this dream last night, and considering the subject matter I figured I'd share it here. I have no idea where this dream came from. The FFX HD remake is perhaps the furthest thing from my mind, and even then I am only mildly interested in it. Also notable about this dream is that my perspective doesn't change. I'm always looking at the game as myself playing and critiquing it. So it starts off with Tidus as a child leading an adult Tidus down some stairs. Child Tidus looks basically like a shrunken version of the actual Tidus from the game in real life. But adult Tidus looks .. off. His clothing is still black and yellow, but the design is different, the yellow is kind of faded. His hair is still yellow, but also faded, shorter, yet it covers his right eye. You can tell it's supposed to be Tidus but his look is drastically different from the original (in real life) minus the similar color patterns. Child Tidus runs off, leaving adult Tidus to aimlessly wander this train station that's really fancy and Final Fantasy-y. He doesn't know where he is or how he got there. But suddenly gunshots ring out, and Tidus gets hit in the side. He falls forward onto his face and struggles to get up. He sees some boxes up some stairs he can take cover behind. The stairs lead to a short bridge people can use to get to the other side of the train tracks. He says, "Come on, move it, Desmond!" And I'm thinking, "Desmond .. ? Why did they change his name to Desmond?" So he takes cover behind those boxes (that are there for some reason), and some soldiers take cover behind some boxes a bit further along the bridge (that is of course littered with stacked boxes along the way). The soldiers I guess kinda look like the Shinra soldiers you fight at the beginning of FF7 or something. The soldiers are firing at him, and suddenly this girl slides up to some other boxes next to Tidus at the other side of the railing. She's dressed in leathers. Her brown hair is kinda mussed and sticks up (sort of like Paine's from FFX-2, I guess). And she has an eyepatch over one of her eyes. .. This is Yuna. She slides a pistol and a clip (and a silencer for some reason) over to 'Desmond', who loads the gun and affixes the silencer. He starts taking shots at the soldiers, instantly getting something like three headshots in a row. Yuna asks 'Desmond' what his name is, and he looks at the information along the side of his gun. I'm thinking, "No. No, no .. no no .. no." One of the words alongside the gun is 'Tidus' .. so he looks up at Yuna and says, " .. I'm Tidus." And I facepalm so hard. That's about all I remember. But it was just .. so weird. So wrong. I just have no idea where that dream came from, or why. But there it is. I can't imagine what the outcry would be if they actually turned FFX into whatever that mess was in my dream.

Balmung's Finest: Community Dungeon Crawling Initiative
Noble_Einherjar replied to Rhylund's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I personally don't mind the Duty Finder. I loved uh .. whatever it was called in WoW (can't believe I've already forgotten), and I found the lack of such a feature in SWTOR to be one of its greatest weaknesses. That being said, I totally support and admire this initiative. I'm not ready to join a LS/FC or anything yet, but this is definitely going on my list of places to look into when I am.
