I have one other person interested in Sastasha and possibly Tam Tara and Copperbell too (as they're unlocked very close together). Anyone else?

I found it interesting that some people had an alternate 'version' of their chars where they RPed the Main Plot/the whole WoL stuff with one or a few RP partners and thought that it could be fun to do. So I thought I'd ask if anyone else was just starting a new char and was interested in doing the Main Plot with me IC? WARNING: I do have a terrible timezone as I live in NZ, so night owls would prob be easier. Let me know if anyone is interested.

I have a char who has just started as a rogue and I was wondering if there was anything like an established Thieves' Guild (or player run part of the Rogues' Guild) or something similar or really any IC connections for those on the shady side of the law. As she has only just started I'd also be interested in anyone who wanted to maybe mentor her. If anyone is interested/knows of anything then please let me know, either here or in PM if you don't want to advertise that you have shady connections.

I made a thread here http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=16260 about getting groups together to do dungeons/trials IC and I thought I'd make a thread just to organise that sort of stuff. Basically, if there's a dungeon you would like to RP post it here and I'll put it in the first post so other people can see it. If you have an IC reason for doing the dungeon (other than the usual main plot reason) then post that as well. Finally if you specifically want to do it synced or unsynced then say which. If you're interested in RPing any of the dungeons I've listed then post and I'll add your chars name to it. Then once you get a full group you can sort out times. I'm fine with the main plot reason for going as it's too early in the plot for it to be a special WoL thing and checking the caves for pirate presence seems pretty open to anyone. I don't want to spoil people's dungeon experiences if they didn't want to RP, so yeah I would be making sure that I had a full group that wanted to do it. Personally, I hate rushing through dungeons. You don't get to explore or experience it at all; it's all run, kill, run ahead of me because I took more than .2 seconds to look at the loot list, run, kill, log out before I can even give a player commendation. DX When I did the first Garlean trial it was 90% over before I'd even finished logging in. I healed one person and it was over and everyone was gone. I know there isn't time to do any heavy duty RP while in the dungeon because of the time limit, but all I'm looking for is being able to react to the dungeon/mission IC (and sometimes to be able to pretend that I don't know exactly what to do to get through it and to be able to find it out IC). I have done the main quest with another char, so I do know that for later dungeons, e.g. the Garlean stuff, it would be hard to explain why you were doing it, but most of them seem amenable to coming up with some reason other than the main quest reason why you have to go in there. I'm just getting to the part in the Main Plot where I need to go into Sastasha and I'd like to find a way to RP it. Are there any groups that do Dungeons/Trials in character?

Hey, not mundane. Never mundane.

I'm probably speaking from being used to playing Dungeons and Dragons, but I find that I miss non combat skills and uses for them in FF XIV. Things like being able to bluff your way out of trouble, or intimidate or persuade and the opportunity to solve quests in different ways depending on your skills. Being able to use skills like lore or perform. I miss Rogues being able to do things like open locks and disable traps, instead of the party just busting through things. Not that all my chars are rampant kleptomaniacs, but sometimes I'd like the opportunity to screw up a quest by stealing the money I was entrusted with, for example, and to have different responses from NPCs depending on how you act, so everyone doesn't have to do things the exact same way. Does anyone else ever think that and do you think that FF will ever add things like that to the game?

I wouldn't worry about trying to fill every role IC. If you can't, say, tank then find someone IC who can to dungeon with you.

I was wondering something about the Battle of Carteneau. IC my Ishgardian char didn't participate, but I was wondering if Ishgard sent soldiers at all or were they too busy fighting the Dravanians? Just wondered if anyone in her family was likely to have fought or not.

I do see even more now how playing the WoL is really just ridiculous in a community setting, because yeah, we're all Warriors of Light and not being the ultra super person is what's weird. Also, it keeps reminding me of this. I don't know if it's because I'm still relatively new to FF, having not finished the main plot yet, but I still don't like ignoring it and making a char version just for MSQ would be confusing. So I guess I'll ignore the chosen one/WoL stuff and just RP that my char is part of a group who fight Primals, try to right wrongs etc. and work around or change IC bits that don't make sense. I just think that there is a lot of RP opportunity in some of the main plot events that could shape a char and affect their RP. I guess the problem there is talking about events that others aren't at the same point on. I guess I need to find a group who does RP main plot stuff to talk about that stuff with IC.

Interesting responses. I admit that having 100s of Warriors of Light running around everywhere does kind of stretch credulity. I do like the idea though of being able to join the Scions and fight against the Primal threat, whether you're the WoL or not. It also makes fighting Primals in dungeons etc. make sense and for an adventuring char it does let you make a difference in the world and justify why you didn't just stay at home. So I guess I could just take pieces of the main plot and leave out the chosen one stuff. One thing I found frustrating about the main plot was the lack of ability to choose how your char would react to situations. PLOT SPOILER

I was intrigued by the Ishgardian society when I reached the Coerthas Highlands part of the main plot and decided to make an Ishgardian character. She is a daughter of a minor noble house who rebelled against the future set out for her of basically a good marriage and set out to prove herself capable of fighting against the Dravanians. If she would fit in with a current house that anyone has then please let me know, as that would be great, but otherwise any connections would be appreciated. She's currently learning to be an archer in Gridania.

A quick question that didn't rate its own thread. Is it possible in FF to throw your voice to companions/minions? i.e. Coeurl Kitten: *rubs round someone's legs*

I was wondering how people used the main plot for RP, seeing as it's exactly the same for every char with no differences allowed for differing alignments etc. or different stories/outcomes. Do you just do it OOC or do you work it into your RP somehow? What do you do about inconsistencies, for example if you're RPing with someone who hasn't reached the same point as you and therefore things in the world are different for them? Have you ever tried to do it with someone else in sync IC? It seems a shame not to use it, but I can see where there would be difficulties.

Thanks. Those links will be helpful too. So the best thing would be to make up my own minor noble house and to pick a High House for it to be affiliated with? Is there a list of appropriate names for houses or a list of ones people have already picked so I don't end up suddenly becoming someone's long lost sister lol?

I found the Ishgardian Elezen very interesting when I got to the finding the airship part of the main quest. I was considering making one and I wondered if there were any specific family names other than the high 4 Houses?
