  1. Titan is dead! And I am not. After having three chars who were only able to defeat him for MSQ because their parties killed him while they lay at the bottom of the cliff, Tip finally broke the curse and survived to the end. I'd like to say that it was because of superior strategies and talent, but it was pretty much dumb luck. I got hit by Landslide twice, but the tank had backed Titan into a corner and I didn't get pushed back far enough to fall off. Thank you, tank!
  2. I can't say that I care about raising the char limit. I'm struggling enough to level up 4 chars. Thanks SE, for making it so we have to complete the entire main plot to access Ishgard. DX But I also wouldn't care if anyone else had more than 8 chars as long as yeah, it doesn't affect things like housing and/or number of people who can get on the server. I seriously think that it'd be weird to make the restrictions on Balmung per char rather than per player, because you can only play one char at a time that actually takes up space on the server (ok char data, but I didn't think that would make the server lag if it wasn't currently active). Housing, it seems, has needed an overhaul for ages, as I hear lots of complaints about it and it currently doesn't seem fair, even without extra chars. One house per player and one FC house per player seems fair.
  3. Bahamut isn't really into RP; he's more interested in burning the whole world and destroying everything. Seriously, I started on Diabolos and I couldn't find RP there really at all. It really does seem to be Balmung that has all the RP. I managed to get chars on after maintenance though. The trick is checking obsessively about an hour before maintenance is supposed to end in case it ends early. There is a maintenance coming up, but it's full day maintenance, so I don't know whether that would end early or not. It's worth a try.
  4. Even when gear is synced down? FFXIV is my first FF game. I've never played any of the others. But I thought that the lore etc. was different for each game, so FFXIV was a stand alone. I have no time to play the previous iterations; I'm too busy playing XIV (my sims are suffering because of this).
  5. I thought I'd responded to this already. Oops. Thanks for the advice (and the offer of help, but my Paladin happens to be my one Diabolos char). Ylva is quite undergeared; she's using level 30 stuff still. I need to catch up on main quest to fix that. Is it true that higher level gear attracts more aggro? I see people talk about low geared people being unable to hold aggro with higher levels around. I seem to either be posting in this thread or the good PUG thread. I don't seem to get stuff in between lol. Today I got a PUG for Palace of the Dead 20-30. Seeing as they don't restrict classes we ended up with tank, DPS and two healers. The other healer stuck Cleric Stance on immediately and left most of the healing to me, which was fine. Halfway through the level though the DPS runs off without the rest of the party. I was dumb enough to follow him, thinking he would get himself killed alone. Well, he did after 4 things swarmed him and I couldn't heal him fast enough to keep up. Then they proceeded to take me out as well. We got raised and he told me to learn how to do my job. Seeing as I'd chased his ass just to try and make sure that he didn't die I rather resented that. The next time he ran off and got killed (and he did) he was on his own!
  6. Am I the only one posting in this anymore lol? You know it's been a tough battle when my Summoner ends up healing the tank in the last battle with Aiatar in Brayflox' Longstop. The healer ran out of MP and I was just mashing the Physick button and wishing I had Medica as everyone's HPs were looking unhealthy. I thought we'd all go down at any second, but we made it!
  7. Best out of context quote in the middle of a fight in Brayflox' Longstop.
  8. After a bad experience with Cutter's Cry in Roulette that never even got past the first room, I decided to try one more time. I waited for it to load and prayed that the game gods weren't cruel enough to give me CC again and ended up with Qarn. Which I'd also never tanked before. So, at the start I said again that I'd never tanked it before and to please point me in the right direction if I get lost, half expecting them to quit on me like the CC group. Instead, someone actually said no problem! Then they actually helped me with the fight planning and were patient with me even when I died to just about every boss due to screwing up. So, thank you people I will probably never meet again! You have restored my faith in Roulette and I'm only sad that I couldn't commend all three of you.
  9. I hate Cutter's Cry. My Paladin pulled it on Roulette and I was apprehensive, 'cause I remembered having trouble with it before and that was when I wasn't expected to go first and Ylva had never done it before. So I point out at the start that I am new and please poke me back in the right direction if I'm hopelessly lost. So we go to the first part and I die because I stood on the shifting sands. Okay lesson learned, don't stand on the shifting sands. I respawn and run back. Then we all die to something, I'm not sure what. The wretched sand bats and ants were standing right on the quicksand and ignoring my Flash. DX Someone asks wtf I'm doing, at least I presume it was directed at me and the next time I pull a set of ants everyone quits on me. Okay, obviously I was doing something wrong, but I did say that I'd never tanked it before and you can't expect me to suddenly start doing it right when you aren't telling me what I'm doing wrong! Sigh.
  10. I thought there was a limit of one owned house per player, not per character.
  11. Thanks for all the advice! I'll definitely take it on board for the Stone Vigil.
  12. I should stop reading the terrible PUG thread, because I've developed a paranoia of being one of those sort of players through general ineptitude. I realised that I hadn't done the duty roulette since I'd picked up Bard because I was afraid of screwing it up. Now, however, I've hit Stone Vigil on MSQ and can't avoid it anymore. Because I already had several abilities on Archer that I didn't use because I didn't really understand their usefulness I had put off getting Bard because I suspected that I was going to get more confusing stuff and I was right. I finally got Bard at level 45 and ran through all the quests at once, leaving me with several songs and nfi when to use them, namely Mage's Ballad, Foe Requiem and Army Paeon. I could probably add Swiftsong to the list as I have never used it. Except Swiftsong, which I never saw as useful as you couldn't cast it in battle, all the other songs look useful, but there can be only one at a time. So how do I choose between refreshing MP, TP or lowering Enemy Magic Resistance? My usual way of dealing with I don't know what to do is to avoid the stuff entirely, but that's really not going to cut it as I near level 50. Also, I hear a lot of complaints about DPS not doing enough damage, so how do I know if it's ever worth using the songs that decrease my damage by 10%? I see too many opportunities for me to do the wrong thing. Any advice would be appreciated!
  13. LOL, I guess she's on Bombard spotting duty. Thanks.
  14. Which Vigil did House Haillenarte lose to the Dravanians? I thought I'd read that it was the Stone Vigil, but Lord Francel just told me that it was the Steel Vigil.
  15. Okay, now it's all over and there are no more spoilers to be given. Where was Hildelana (Black Ranger)? I know that Haermaga was the Red Ranger and the Iceman was the Yellow Ranger, but did we see Hildelana around anywhere apart from when she was being Black Ranger? If so, where, 'cause I could not find her?
  16. Would have liked to come, but that's at least 5 hours too early for me sadly.
  17. I wouldn't have thought that a level 60 Rogue would be that weak.
  18. My gladiator has a wolf pup she rescued from being trained for the Bloodsands. One of my Miqo'te has the black couerl kitten as a pet and the other one considers her carbuncle her pet (which is not helping me transition to Summoner lol).
  19. It's always dead when I'm on. Stupid timezones.
  20. Wow, this really exploded while I was asleep. I am just going to say.
  21. Ok, I have some of those. I tend to only use them for a boss seeing as they don't last for very long and have a longer wait before you can cast them again. Gegenji I... uh... usually just look at the classes themselves. If we have good AoE, I'll do bigger pulls. If we're running single-DPS classes like MNKs and DRGs, I'll usually do smaller pulls. I definitely give a closer look if something seems off, though - that "why do I nearly have as much health as the tank" situation included. Though, I don't think I've run into anyone wearing crafting gear to fill slots. :surprise: Done. Was quite surprised myself when I checked my gear after a few levels and discovered I'd been increasing my crafting points in battle for God only knows how long. Stupid earrings all look the same.
  22. Ok this is embarrassing seeing as I have a level 30 Tank, but better to ask now than get yelled at in a dungeon. What the hell is a defensive cooldown?
  23. When you've been waiting ages for the duty roulette to pop as a DPS and you go do other things because standing there picking your nose for half an hour is boring. Then the thing finally pops while you're on the loading screen and by the time you've gotten out of it the timer has expired and your registration has been withdrawn. DX Why are DPS so unappreciated, anyway? Tanks and Healers get snapped up almost as soon as they've clicked join, but DPS hang around for ages until there's finally room for them. Also, I've seen people not care if one DPS drops from a dungeon. Meh, we can do it without him/her; let's not bother waiting for a replacement. Are we truly so unneeded? Where is the love?!
  24. I have no problem DPSing; I just don't like switching in and out of Cleric Stance. I can still sling offensive spells while not in CS and I don't need to worry about forgetting to turn it off or fumbling to do it while I should be doing something else. When I'm focusing on enemies or on people I need to heal I don't notice what I have on sometimes. I did half a dungeon once before I noticed that my Rogue had never turned Kiss of the Wasp on.
  25. I thought Cleric Stance was something to be used when solo, not for dungeons. I do use attack spells if noone needs healing, but I stay out of Cleric Stance so I'm ready to heal again when needed. But then I'm probably the kind of person you want least in your party because I'm not the best at fighting and what I've learned from around here is that people are really really judgemental.
