  1. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Merlwyb's weapon of choice a gun?
  2. The opinion of the little-experienced may not mean a whole lot, but damn. I really like this. There's always this mysticality and mysteriousness surrounding the Hellsguard, and this is incredibly detailed. REALLY like this.
  3. I tried my hand in making Savarah...she's kind of adorable. :moogle:
  4. *sniffs air* Is that...no...IT IS. FRESH MEATTTTT! :bouncy: No really though, welcome aboard! Don't be intimidated by losers like us. We're happy to find fresh- er, new people! If you're looking for the ins and outs of the universe, go check out some of the awesome lore threads some people have posted (like Merri!) as well as the RP Mentor/Mentee thread Gerik started. We have a bunch of GW2 peeps here! So jump in and enjoy your stay! :moogle:
  5. One of the most beautiful things about RP is that it bridges the age gap if done well enough. You could be a 12 year old who writes beautifully with impeccable grammar and mesh perfectly with someone who is, say, 35 and been around the RP block a few times. And never be the wiser, for that matter. That being said (so as not to sound like a complete creeper), how old are the members of our community? Getting the early RP start as middle schoolers or high schoolers, maybe college aged, maybe much older than that with lives and children of your own who've been RPing longer than these silly kids have been alive? And have any of you taken any formal writing classes or have you just grown and developed on the fly? Personally, I'm 21 and entering my last year of college (yay!) and I wrote for fun with a close friend or two through most of my teens. Learned what was good, what was cheesy, and what was downright awful. I've never taken any formal creative writing classes because I'm afraid of people judging me (hence why I'm terrified of the mentor program as awesome as it is ). One of the most awesome things in my RP past is that I got into extensive arcs with young teens and adults who had kids my age, and it was really awesome.
  6. Since this debate is so popular, I might as well throw in my two cents (which may or may not have already been said). My background, to put it simply, is that of an FF fanatic who unfortunately never got to play 1.0 and has only a small degree of RP experience. With that being said, I could really go either way with the server argument. On one side, I see the merit of joining a non-Legacy server in order to experience and grow with -about- the same rate as other players (excluding the power levelers and whatnot). On the other hand (which is the way I am personally leaning), I would love to join everyone on Balmung simply because my knowledge of the lore, 1.0 especially, is very limited. The whole timeskipper bit along with the details on the Echo...I simply don't know that much about it. So finding some kind soul who can kinda hold my hand lore-wise would be nice.
  7. I hated Castanics females simply for the way they moved. I liked High Elves (I normally do), but those super awesome Aman females and those child bearing hips were too good.
  8. I like your way of thinking. I like being underestimated quite a bit, but I love being a bitch when the times warrant it.
  9. Animal pictures you say? This is me with one of my dogs!
  10. *squee* You guys are awesome. You will all be my resources for my dumb questions from now on!
  11. I. Basic Info Characters: Savarah Ardyn Primary character: Savarah Ardyn Linkshells: Mostly random PvE linkshells except for... Primary RP linkshell: Expatriates II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Normally I'd say medium, assuming I'm not in the beginning/middle of a raid progression cycle (then I switch to light). Views on RP combat and injuries: I like RP combat, always have. /emote battles have a special place in my heart because I rarely play a physically overpowering character (mostly casters here) and I don't think it's necessarily fair that if you're a higher level or a ridiculous damaging class that you should win every fight. I like to push buttons and I like to push boundaries, so I think it's fair that everyone gets a fair shot. Any major injuries or KOs should be discussed and agreed on beforehand, of course. Views on IC romance: I always liked IC flirting, I feel it comes natural to most. As long as it isn't forced or constant, it adds another level to most styles of RP. As for serious monogamous relationships, as long as it doesn't cross the OOC line I think it's nice between two consenting parties. As for ERP, I feel it has no place in the public eye and is only acceptable in a between two (or more, maybe?) consenting parties. This is private stuff, ya'll. Don't wanna make anyone uncomfortable. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): As long as it can be coordinated and backstories can intertwine, I think family RP is wonderful. Makes things super fun and can add another level of personal conflict or motivation for a character. Views on lore: Lore is great. I'm definitely not Lorestapo; everyone learns at different rates. A little background about history and locations goes a long way. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I view /say as IC as long as it's not (bracketed), /tell as OOC planning unless otherwise noted. /linkshell and /party can go either way. III. Other Info Country: USA Timezone: EST Contact info: /tells, forum messages, whatever's available. I like you guys enough. Wiki: See signature below!
  12. Should this be true, this makes me a very happy panda. :moogle:
  13. I hate to use an example that everyone may not be familiar with, but one of the greatest things about SWG was the roleplay and the simple built in system that was built into chat. It added so much to the immersion and made it second nature for most of us to create an environment that fostered RP. Does FFXIV have something similar to the following? Example: Regular chat text is green. If you type /emote, your name would automatically show followed by whatever it is you type, all in green text. Say I I typed the following: /emote walks over to the nearest bar and orders a drink. To all of you in the immediate area (/say range), it would appear as the following in all green text: Seregelleth walks over to the nearest bar and orders a drink.
  14. Oi newbie! Welcome aboard! I look forward to being equally as newbie-ish with you and hopefully scooting onto Balmung as well. Maybe you can teach a lady a thing or two. Enjoy your stay! :moogle:
  15. Heh, you sound like me with the student and the dog and the beach things. Anyroad, welcome aboard!:chocobo:
  16. Yeah, I think it's just the lighting. But if they are different colors the difference is too negligible to really tell. Really attractive either way. I wish I had a 1.0 character to show off, but when Phase 4 rolls around I'll have someone awesome to show for it. :moogle:
  17. As much as I hate to say it, I went through character creation with all my races and I have to say my Miqo'te looks awesome and with the lore I could have a lot of fun. Totally caught between my Duskwight and my Keeper now. >.
  18. I also tend to lean towards races that generate a lot of conflict and/or interest. My SWG main that I loved to bits was a Lethan Twi'lek (for those who don't know, Lethan is a red skin pigmentation that is pretty darn rare, and Twi'leks are mostly viewed as a slave race). It's much easier to pick up random RP encounters that can bloom into something more when you're something other than an average Joe.
  19. Forgive me if this has been discussed already (feel free the link me and/or lock my thread), but I do have a question for the wide world of RPers. Why did you choose your race/clan as your main RP character? Was it something about the lore, maybe the naming conventions or a habit from other MMOs (i.e. I always play humans/elves so the Hyur/Elezen are for me). Maybe you like playing the least played race? I'm sort of caught between a few. I always lean toward elves, and I almost never play humans because I live a boring human life everyday. I tend to shy away from whatever the most popular race is because I like to be unique. I also reject whatever the 'pervy' class happens to be (for example, Elin in TERA and maybe Miqo'te here). I'm leaning toward a female Duskwight Elezen, but for once in my life I'm so unsure. I have lore-specific names picked out for every possible choice, but I want to hear your stories. Your opinions are valued; let me hear them!
  20. Well in my case, I found the race naming conventions so damn fascinating that I spent most of yesterday figuring out names that I liked that fit ALL race/clan conventions (I always RP a female because, well, I'm female and that's what I do). But as for everyone, I mean I don't think it much matters whether you use a favorite name that carries across games. As in, I don't think anyone will jump you for it.
  21. OMG I SAW THAT YESTERDAY WHEN BROWSING DEVIANTART FOR CHOCOBO PICTURES FOR MY TATTOO. /dies
  22. If anyone remembers me in the EMU, I was a Lethan Twi entertainer by the name of Savarah Ardyn. Praying I didn't offend anyone here, I was rather...outspoken.
  23. I have such an unhealthy obsession with chocobos it's not even funny. I swear if I could roll a chocobo character I would be the happiest Big Bird alive.:chocobo:
  24. *Seregelleth looks at Magellan, slowly extending her neck without breaking eye contact. She then grabs the gysahl greens and runs wildly*
  25. Greetings to all of you ladies, gentlemen, and others! My -real- name is Casey, and I'm a 21 year old college student living is South Florida (English/Criminal Justice majors). I am an RPG/Final Fantasy fanatic, and will be a VIP member attending the Distant Worlds concert in Miami! I am very happy to call FFXIV:ARR my new home. I did not get the pleasure to play FFXI or the original FFXIV, but I am very anxious to get started (I cried when I realized that due to my busy weekend I was unable to play in the first Phase 3 beta). As for my RP prowess and experience (read: lack of), my journey began with the Star Wars Galaxies EMU last summer and pretty much stayed there. I began to play SWG simply FOR the RP, I lived for it. So I am terribly inexperienced when it comes to RP in general, but I do know the general ins and outs and do's and don't's. TL;DR: I WANT TO RP WITH YOU...YES, YOU.
