1. I'm tentatively interested, actually. I tend to rotate between characters a lot just like you described. Sometimes 3 in one night, sometimes a binge of just one of them for days on end. And they all somehow have ended up connected one way or another, if at least loosely.
2. Definitely guilty of the bolded. I'll also add that I personally say what my character does (and mimic -how- they say), at times, to make sure it sounds "natural." To be honest I was a little self conscious posting the first one. I seriously thought I was the only one who did that. I'm not alone in my weirdness! I, uh, do that too. Especially if I'm emoting fight scenes - trying to figure out if the motion I want to have my character do is properly fluid. And I've even changed up some of my actions when I felt that I couldn't properly replicate the motion. ... I may or may not have tossed myself onto my bed once or twice to figure out how a tossed/airborne character could land, too. My fiancee occasionally catches me making faces or gesturing strangely at my laptop and laughs at me. But then I see her doing it too a few minutes later and we laugh together because wow, we're nerds. I'm also guilty of going to Google/Wiki to "look up one thing" and then getting lost in it for like 4-6 hours because stuff is interesting and I've gotten 120% sidetracked from my original intent.
3. As an arcanist, I've generally referred to Cam going over the angles and calculations in his mind while projecting aether through the corresponding symbols in his grimoire. No outright spell names unless they're already vaguely descriptive (Miasma is a good example of both a spell name and a descriptor). As stated above, a lot of description of what's happening and a lot less emphasis on specific names. He's the healer side of arcanist, with scholar as a title (scholar, researcher, student of magic) rather than referring to his class. In my limited experience, there are some points in rp where the "insta-heal" sort of thing is desired and other times when magic+mundane healing is the better option, but the times where he does invoke a more OP "insta-heal" comes with a lot of backlash on him. Not sure how it would work for something like CNJ, where I think the aether comes from outside them rather than internal... but I like it as a helpful sort of power limiter for the way I rp ACN. You wanna heal someone instantly? That's cool, bro, but you're going to have a monster headache and if you keep pushing yourself be prepared to spend the next few days unconscious.
4. AV. It's always AV. We all have AV horror stories. AV Horror Stories, you say? Well, then... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qTrgCWpLlM Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society... I was leveling up my MNK through dungeon runs, so naturally, I had to go through AV. We loaded in and approached the first chamber with our healer, second dps, and our PLD tank. PLD wobbled around aimlessly like something out of Twitch Plays Pokemon for a bit, then ram right up to the mobs. He didn't use shield toss, he didn't use flash. He just ran around grabbing aggro that lasts about five seconds from about three trash piles, including the first toad, then spams JUST Rage of Halone with no combo on each enemy, as if compelled to believe this will actually work. After inevitably wiping, I decided that maybe I should explain how this game actually works to him, and so I did. He attempted to do what I commanded about twice, each time dying to the mobs that we then carefully mopped up for him. We made it to the boss, and, surprising no one, he ran up to the boss, flashed, and then RoH spammed again, but thanks to the efforts of our healer, he does not die, nor I when I inevitably pulled all the aggro off of him. We beat the boss, and I asked the group if we're willing to continue to try and teach this lummox who somehow made it past the Brayflox idiot wall, or if we should just kick him. Shocking all, he decided for us, and left. Having gone through that, I never want to hear that I'm a toxic player with no patience ever again. Fuck AV with a rusty pitchfork, seriously. Just yikes.
5. Had an exceptionally awful Bard in AV last night. They were at-level, woefully undergeared (about 10+ levels below on all items), and I'm pretty sure the only skill they bothered to use was the first attack skill you get when you learn the class. In the first boss, they didn't cleanse the poison - they got to 5 stacks and I had to actually, you know... heal the tank... so I couldn't spam-heal them and they died. And their immediate response after they die is "Um, heals??" as if it's my fault they don't follow the damn mechanic despite the tank's pre-boss 'everyone knows this, right?' check. (Reasonably sure that their death wasn't my fault, given everyone who actually followed mechanics stayed alive. Please correct me if I'm wrong. That comment instantly raised my healer salt meter to 9000 though.) They did no AOE the entire dungeon, stole fruits from the tank during the final boss, and said/did absolutely nothing when given a few gentle pointers/requests from the tank and other DPS who both had max-level BRD class on their character sheets. Before the tank left they said "You are the worst bard I have ever seen" and I wholly agree.
6. Hello! I've done this thing before, a few months back, but I feel like it's worth doing again. I met a few people last time, including a few that I never managed to connect with yet, but... I'm shy as hell and I'm terrible at sending tells to people bugging them for RP. So now that I've been playing for longer and have a better idea of what to put here and who I'm playing, I'm putting another of these up just to hopefully get my kids out there a little more. I hope that's okay. ---------------------- Cam'nahl Zarasten Cam is a Keeper of the Moon and an Arcanist/Scholar. He's a student of healing first and foremost, with an interest in arcanimic (is that even a term? lol) theory - things like streamlining spells or tweaking diagrams and working out the mathematics for improving the efficiency of aether input vs output. He's not available for romantic plots, but platonic relationships are wonderful and it's great to have friends. Cam has never been terribly good at socializing because he's very shy, and his twin brother Mik'hal was the one who usually did all the talking while they were growing up. So he's very friendly, but also a bit of a socially awkward penguin who is still learning how to talk to people outside of an academic setting. IC, Cam spends the majority of his time in Limsa. He can also be found out around the world collecting different plant samples for his botany hobby. ---------------------- Riski Chanse Riski's name is a pseudonym, but it's the only one he's giving out. Former archer, current rogue, dabbler in various martial skills just because he can. He can be joking and sarcastic, flirty and teasing, sometimes a sassmaster. Overall he just likes to have a good time and see where the wind takes him next. Again, not really looking for romance. He'll flirt like there's no tomorrow, but there's no future in it - and I'm really not up for random erp. He's a social butterfly who likes to have connections wherever he can find them, and will gladly chat with anyone, anywhere. I haven't had many chances to play Riski off other characters, but he's energetic and fun and in general chooses to not be terribly serious most of the time. That's not to say he's incapable of it: he just prefers to not. IC, Riski would be found in Limsa/La Noscea or Ul'dah/Thanalan. He avoids Gridania/The Black Shroud for personal reasons - same with Ishgard. ---------------------- I have a few others as well, but right now those are the two you're most likely to find me online with - Cam is my main! I'm online basically all evening once I get home from work (roughly 5pm, US Pacific time) and all day on weekends. I'm always happy to chat with people, and I swear to you that if you send me a message or a PM you are not bothering me in the slightest.
7. I have an arcanist/scholar cat (Cam'nahl Zarasten) who's a huge fan of magical theory in pretty much all its forms. Arcanima is his main study, though he's looked into conjury and thaumaturgey and found them not really to his taste. He's recently started investigating the art of summoning. But overall, his passion is in healing of the SCH variety. He doesn't spend a lot of time in Ul'dah, but if your kid ever drops by the Arcanist Guild in Limsa, there's a good chance of finding a smol blue catte surrounded by dusty old books. If you'd like, of course
8. I am one of those who doesn't walk up to people. Why? Social anxiety! It's such a fun thing. My main, Cam, is shy as well. He's not at all the type to suddenly walk up to someone and strike up conversation. Which works for me, since even sending /tells to people who I've met here on the RPC (who have given express permission to contact them) sends me into a panic. I'm always afraid of interrupting something or being a pain in the ass. I've never actually had any walkups come up to me either, but I've only been playing for a few months and I also realize the fact that catboys are pretty much a dime a dozen. It's something I'd be happy to go along with if it was initiated, especially anywhere that's not the Quicksand or the aetheryte plaza. Walk-ups out in the wild would be rad. Helping take down a Fate together or something seems to me like it could be a fun hook.
9. I'm not sure if I'll see you on much considering I'm US Pacific timezone, but if I do see you on sometime I'll send you a holler and we can see how things go from there regarding characters and RP hooks? If you'd like, of course.
10. It's cute that you even THINK you don't have time with a wedding approaching. Alllow me to settle this for you so you can remove all doubt. You won't. (Coming from experience) lol We're doing a Shinto ceremony, so there's actually very little we need to do ahead of time for that part, at least. Thanks for the warning though? LOL
11. lol my fiancee and I are up in the Edmonds/Lynnwood area. Not sure if we have much time this summer (wedding is in September which means we are entering the crazy prep time now) but this is a cute idea
12. I have 6 characters. One is main, 2 others get played relatively frequently, and the other three are mostly concepts without full stories yet (in varying stages). I love playing my three major kids, even though I'm usually on as my main - and I can always jump to one of them if I feel like it or if someone asks for them. I'm one of those people who levels classes based on the character. So Cam'nahl is an Arcanist/Scholar, and I recently picked up enough levels in THM to get Swiftcast and open Summoner - and I found a way to make it compliant with his story for him to have some experience in those fields. Same with CNJ. They'll never be something he canon specializes in, but I can explain why he'd know at least the basics. However, he will never, ever be the time to pick up a sword or another weapon - which is what alts are for, for me. They let me explore a different character's personality and other classes at the same time.
13. Hello hello! I don't get out much, and I'm still intending to connect with people I met a while back on this site... because I'm terrible at getting in touch with people for varying reasons. But I have a sweet, shy catteboy of my own if you'd like to meet up somewhere. Feel free to send me a /tell sometime if you'd like and we're on at the same time! You'll find me over on Cam'nahl Zarasten more often than not. (I'm US Pacific time, so we might overlap a little bit? My evening is your morning... so for example at the time of my writing this it's about 5pm my time and Google tells me GMT+10 makes it 10am. So maybe?)
