If you look at the corresponding calendar date when you're assigning your character's date of birth, you will notice that the day duplicates at some point. I believe this is around the 25th of the month, but I'm not 100% on that off the top of my head.

I'm already committed to playing the largest Roegadyn possible. In fact, if a 200 size setting existed then I'd pick that. I'm just curious as to whether or not this will have any impact on healers. I find game mechanics intriguing.

I thought she was a half-vampire demigod princess?

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/32685-Questions-related-to-Lore?p=490835&viewfull=1#post490835 This is in reference to races, not clans within the races. It sounds to me as if they've almost gone the direction of Star Wars. In Star Wars, half-breeds are so exceedingly rare that one might as well consider it impossible. Even cross breeding between humans and demihumans is only mentioned a couple of times. And then usually with some odd and unwanted side effects. But again, this is between races. Let's say we have two humans, one from Coruscant (Midlander), and one from Corellia (Highlander). As they are both actual humans, just from different regions of the galaxy, they would have absolutely no trouble at all having children. There are multitudes of examples of this taking place. The only barriers you have to creating a character that is half Midlander and half Highlander are regional and cultural. If you can explain in your background why two humans who don't live in the same region and who have vastly different life views have found each other and can actually stand each other enough to have a child (or a far, far less happy scenario...) then there's no reason at all that this could not come to pass. They would have no more trouble than two Midlanders or two Highlanders.

Forget the zombie apocalypse. It's a MOOGLE apocalypse!

This is good to know. In most games I've played you can just select via the party menu. I haven't had a chance to check that out for FFXIV yet, though. Thanks for the feedback! I also have to say that being tiny in PVP can be a huge boon. Not so much in 1 on 1 matches. But the more people you have running around, the more being small is advantageous. Tab targeting, while generally very useful, can be a pain in the butt when the enemy comes in force. If you can hide behind larger characters, or even inside of them, then you have a sizeable advantage. Of course, if your job is to absorb blows then even in PVP being huge can be advantageous for the exact same reason. You get slugged while your tiny healer hides beneath your avatar's robes.

I know what you're thinking. I can emphatically say that no, this has nothing to do with PVP. That was what you were thinking, right? Anywho, this is a question I'm gearing toward our wonderful, underrated healers who deserve all of the love in the world. I've played many MMO's over the years and tanking has proven time and time again to be my favorite role. I have done a bit of healing, but not in FFXIV. In some games you don't really even need graphics to heal beyond positioning. Being able to see the tank amidst enemies and/or other PC's is irrelevant. I've played other games in which being able to see the tank on your screen is imperative. So how does this work in FFXIV? Is this a case of "the bigger the better" or is the height of your tank irrelevant?

I work in the IT department at a mental health facility. If I ever find out that a therapist is suggesting RP for therapeutic reasons then I'm giving said therapist a cookie. And inviting him/her/it to join us here.

I can say with 100% certainty that you weren't running Scarlet Monastery with me, then. If a DPS class wanted to pull aggro from me on a consistent basis and was making my job overly difficult then I would just sit back, let them die, and then grab aggro back so that the rest of the group wasn't screwed. And if they decided to gripe at me for not drawing aggro away then I'd explain how we'd have to wait all of 30 seconds to replace them while replacing me would take 30 minutes or more. That usually cooled their jets. For some reason, I found asserting myself was much easier as a tank than as a healer. I've got my eye on you... Exactly my philosophy. If the game ceases to be fun then unplug. Life is too short to endure frustrations when you're trying to unwind.

PC version of 2.0 load performance SSD vs. hdd?
Koninbeor replied to Niteshade_Rune's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Having to use an HDD after using an SSD makes me want to cry. That goes for any software. It's like trying to use the Internet via modem... the pain... the horror... -
DC: Batman. No one else even comes close. A normal guy who uses gadgets to keep up with people who have the craziest super powers. Oh, and let's not forget that the ENTIRE JUSTICE LEAGUE fears him. Freakin' yeah. Marvel: The Incredible Hulk. Always liked him as a kid. Not really all that sure why. I just can't get enough of Hulk smashing things. That said, I love this meme:

I don't have a hatred for you cat people. My brain just doesn't work the same way. I honestly cannot think of a reason that anyone would want to play a cat person. Although, I'm not really a fan of cats in general, so... grain of salt. And despite my preference for character race, I certainly won't be avoiding anyone simply because of cat ears and a tail. I look forward to some good RP with the Miqo'te.

Even dark and gritty RP is an escape. J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were in a writing club together and they had very different approaches to their fantasy novels. Tolkien was of the mind that fantasy was not for children. And while The Hobbit is childish in some respects, The Lord of the Rings is very much geared toward adults. In fact, the series is so dark that at many points most of the characters actually lose hope and accept defeat. Only by being lifted up by the minority are they able to press forward. The Chronicles of Narnia carries a sense of hope throughout, even if a couple of characters might stumble along the way. Tolkien was not a fan of Narnia even though he and Lewis were good friends. This should serve as a message to the rest of us. My style may not be your style. I don't think that I'm better than you or that your RP is wrong if you do not RP the same way that I do. I am simply RPing and allowing the story to unfold in the way that is the most fun for me. If my style works for you then great! We will get along famously. If you hate my style then I understand. I might not like some of the books that you read, either, but that doesn't mean that those books have no value. It also doesn't mean that I don't think that you or your RP style have any value. If our RP doesn't mesh then no big deal. You'll play with someone who fits your style better and so will I. Nothing personal. This isn't directed at anyone in particular, just laying this out in a direct method because that's how I tend to write. I love realistic, gritty RP. If there is no element of realism to the RP then I cannot identify with it and I lose interest. If the RP is always happy-happy-joy-joy all the time then I might as well be watching children's cartoons. Now if that's your style then I mean no offense, I just don't enjoy playing that way. That doesn't make you wrong, and it doesn't make me wrong. It means that we have fun doing different things. So instead of criticizing others for their different styles, just have fun doing what you do. Even I, with my dark and gritty RP, enjoy the happy-happy-joy-joy types from time to time. If I'm in a dark place in my life, it's nice to hang with an annoyingly happy person just to open my eyes to the light that's right in front of me. At the end of the day, this is a game. A game. Just a game. Not real. A game. So make the most of your time in game. Have fun. If you think I'm fun then I look forward to hours of fun with you. If you think that I'm a poo-poo head then... well... sorry. For me, the light cannot be appreciated without the darkness. But too much darkness breeds despair. Don't really know what else to say on the subject except that my RP will never be as abysmal as the Chief's season last year. That was truly a thing of horror.

Some respect please, this is addressed to all

This is my #1 selling point for EVE Online. One Shard. ONE Shard. There is no debate. No new EVE player will ever have to ask which server is the best for this, that, or the other. If you play EVE then you play EVE. In a game with as many loading zones as FFXIV has (partially due to RAM constraints on the PS3) I see absolutely no excuse beyond MMO traditionalism to keep the entire FFXIV player base as a single realm. Each physical server would still fulfill a function and support different zones within that realm. But, of course, this will never happen as SE has gone with a more familiar format. Since my dream for the FFXIV world will never be possible, I am forced to make a choice. As I have said before, and as Nate seems to have indicated, I have chosen Balmung as my home out of respect for those who have blazed the trail before me and worked hard through a mechanically horrendous game to provide the best and brightest community they possibly could. I would see it as a slap in the face to tell those who have worked so hard, "Thanks, but I'm going to play somewhere else so I don't have to be with anyone who is level 50." That said, I'm not saying that everyone who is rolling on any server than Balmung feels that way. I'm also not saying that rolling on another server is due to malicious intent in any way. But regardless of the intent, no one can argue that this does divide the RP community. Other forums indicate that there will be RP communities beyond even the two that will be supported here. Each server is going to have to fight for its ability to thrive and that means competition over resources. In this case, the resource is a new player. There is absolutely no way to completely eliminate this competition unless both communities are 100% equal in every single way, which is never going to happen even if we try. And if you set up a rule so that no one on the forum can make a post to sway a new person's opinion one way or the other, simply laying out facts about Server B and Server G, the majority of players are going to pick the larger community by default and the small server still loses. I sincerely hope that each and every person who plays this game, RPer or not, finds the server that is most cohesive with what they think is fun. I wish the players of Gilgamesh and other servers the best of success in building something great. Just please understand that eliminating the competition for new players is impossible. It goes against human nature. We just have to be as sportsmanlike with that competition as possible. -
I had about six paragraphs typed up and realized that I wasn't saying much of anything that someone else hasn't already said. So here's the super-revised version. RP is supposed to be fun and it's up to you to make that fun. It is impossible not to put a part of yourself into your RP. Even if you're just goofing off, you're placing a part of yourself that needs to cut loose into your character. The role you're playing may be nothing like you at all but it's still a reflection of something that you want to experience. Your mood will ebb and flow with what you allow yourself to take part in, so just RP responsibly as with all things in life. I am of the mind that nothing worth having in life ever comes easily. This belief is ever present in my RP. I don't save the world and eat candy for three square meals on a daily basis. I don't let myself get dragged into endless drama from which there is no return. And this seems to be a common style in this thread, so I'm hoping for some very wonderful RP in the very near future. Always, always, always remember that your RP is just a game. Always. This can be difficult for some. You're putting a part of yourself on display and if someone attacks your creation you have to exercise restraint or you'll become hurt. Likewise, if someone responds very favorably to your creation then you can get the wrong idea about how that person feels about you. Some people require more OOC interaction than others to keep things straight. Just please, whatever you do, keep sight on the difference between IC and OOC. Lose track of the line and you'll find that you're inadvertently participating in that "outside" game rather than the one you thought you were playing. When it stops being fun, time to unplug.

I'm new and I'm rolling on Balmung.

My alt is going to be a male Lalafell. What worries me, though, is that the more I work on him, the more I like him. I pray that he doesn't end up becoming my main. I would have to hang my head in shame.

What would you do if you got stuck in Final Fantasy?
Koninbeor replied to Vashies Rosada's topic in RP Discussion
I would make best friends with a White Mage so that he/she could rez me when I die against level 1 creatures. -
The cultural upbringing of your character does not have to match your sub-race or even your race. What if you're a Hellsguard who grew up with Sea Wolves because your adventuring mother died on a pirate ship and you were on board with her? What if you're a Keeper who was raised by Seekers? In both cases you would be a character who looked different from everyone around you, but you would retain the cultural beliefs that you were raised with. Or maybe you even converted later on. Your character's outlook on life is not set in stone by a general description of race and sub-race. Think there are no Lalafell pirates among the Sea Wolves? Look closer...

Roegadyn Guardian here. Though I must say that I had to convince myself not to roll a Pugilist. Very cool combination.

I also commented on this a bit in Moonfire's thread. I would only RP having completed end game content when newer end game content was released. Just my personal preference.
