Balmung's Finest: Community Dungeon Crawling Initiative
Kyatai replied to Rhylund's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Great group of folks. +5star  -
Very interesting and very well thought out. I would love to get involved in some aspect of RPing this sort of thing. Chiane is a dusky, so her culture, motivations, morals, etc are affected by this- but at the same time, she holds honor in high regard. Far from any sort of 'police force'... she is, however, very astute at subterfuge, knowledge/data acquisition, and so on. I am leaning toward giving her a bit of a forensic slant as well, but want to do it IC'ly via game interactions.

hehe... this makes me smile great work!

I have to say, I'd honestly never considered the number of games I've played (or Beta tested) as a detriment to my RP credibility. I... thought that it spoke to my overall experience as a gamer and my commitment to the genre. Not all the games I've played, I've RPed in. In fact, the only one's I've seriously committed to RP in have been: SWG- 3 years solid since launch, then off and on for the remainder til it poofed EQ2- 2 years... left b/c my guild disbanded and decided to go straight PvE. No RP friends, no interest. Moved on. Vanguard- Beta on for 2 years... created a guild, left because my friends did and, well, shit happened that made the game unplayable for me (OOC crept into IC and back again, thanks to the guild I merged mine with. I hate fekkin' drama llama shit. I really really do) The rest? I RPed some, but the game pretty much let me down, so I quit. But in NONE did I just leave folks hanging RP wise. That's just not cool. Hell, I'd still BE in SWG if it hadn't taken the tank and my friends hadn't left. I freakin' loved the RP and my character and my crew there. Loved it. Which, ironically, is why I look to the vets here and understand where they're coming from with commitment and love of their Legacy toons. If I heard SOE was remaking SWG like SE did FFXIV- and I could have my character back and my friends would return... I'd be gone. I'd do it in a heartbeat. I -miss- my character like she was my best friend.. and I -hate- that her story didn't end as I liked. Anyway... I admit it is disheartening to hear that some might judge me as wishy-washy as a RPer when... I take it so seriously. And any listing I did was not meant to do anything but show experience in different types of gaming. I'll definitely keep that in mind from now on...

Elezen Name: Chiane N'ardente Elezen clan: Duskwright Gender: Female Looking for?: Adventure, intrigue, dark, 'realistic real life' RP. Not fluffy happy silly. I like to span the entire breadth of RP and tell a truly epic story with others Timezone: meh. CST but that means little as I work nightshift and could be on anytime when I'm not working. Lore Compliant: Yes... (love learning about Lore and try to stick to it as much as possible- while still making her unique) She was raised in a strong, traditional and rather isolated Clan- but was not of the 'raiding and raising hell' brand of Duskies. That came later after the Calamity and she tends to focus those traits on Garleans. For the most part, she distrusts all that are not "Blood" as she calls it- meaning Duskwright- but is polite about it. Really, really enjoys having the Wildwood Wailers have to salute her as a Serpent Officer. RP limits: Must know how to communicate well and must have a good OOC relationship with RP partners to have quality RP. There is a trust factor there. I believe in respecting RP partners & their stated stories/backgrounds... and desire the same. I like mature, intelligent and complex RP- so communication is vital. Generally tho, permadeath is out, Romance et. al. is negociable, torture/maiming/ etc is also negociable. I believe in consequences and 99.99% of the time, never retcon. What happens, happens and it further forms my character- unless, of course, the RP/story was so badly handled and done that I just erase the existence from my mind. (aka the kidnapper that I fought to rescue a kid that systematically morphed into a dragon, rainbow light, crystals, amorphous blobs, etc to 'not be caught'.... yeah-no.) *Am a member of the Duskwright LS "Midnight Sanctuary" and can invite- if other Duskies want in * Interested in Duskwright cultural RP, Clan stuff, etc. As well as more 'scholarly' pursuits in the Aetherial arts. * Typically found RPing with Yssen Van, Jaques Guillaume, Valthoran Windwyrd; Hope Van, Vaughn Antain... Would love to meet/RP with others of similar RP interests/goals!

This sounds like EXACTLY the kind of RP I prefer (and, in truth, have not seen since my days in SWG, and to some extent Vanguard). I am -dying- to have more mature RP interactions than 'random hook ups' and 'Jerry Springer' or 'tweenage' drama. I've found some so far in game, but not enough. I like darker, gritty RP. I love Lore and sticking as close to it as I'm given- but with the wiggle room to be creative too. I dislike huge groups or tavern RP where it is hard to follow conversations or hear one's self think. In SWG, I played all sides of the fence and dealt with storylines that went to nearly every realm possible. Torture? yes. Murder? yes. Assassinations? Yes. Bounty hunts? Romantic? Adventurous? Betrayals? In depth cultural? Jedi? Sith? Grey? Empire? Republic? Criminal? Medical? Governmental? Spy-Net? Military? All yeses. I like serious RP- but not all RP has to be *grimface* serious. Just.... REAL for the setting. With -consequences- for mistakes and actions. Not everything is 'shiny-happy people holding hands'... yanno? So yeah. Look me up. I'm interested. I'm in a FC already, some of which are like-minded, some preferring the 'lighter' version of RP. Chiane N'ardente

[Fate Seekers] - Fortune Tellers of Eorzea Role Play Introduction
Kyatai replied to Felix Sideris's topic in RP Discussion
As a member of Clouse's guild, and having seen him perform a few readings, I can tell you, it's very cool. -
^^^^^ that. :moogle:

Totally feel the same, reibees. I agree with the above posts- join an IC or OOC linkshell. You don't have to join a company... But networking & meeting other rpers will help a great deal. Don't know how you like your RP, but if you ever see any of us from FoE.... Roaming about eorzea (we don't spend a lot of time in taverns)... Hit us up for RP goodness! Also, feel free to friend me if you like... Chiané N'Ardanté.

Thankful: Barring the 3107, able to get in pretty quickly. Driving me crazy: unable to REMAIN in for much more than 30 min (less than 5 sometimes). I feel I can't even play the game for fear of D/Cing and hitting the 3107... it's not my connection, have a laptop right next to me and my connection never falls. Never happened in Beta/Ph4... and have put in several tickets. No online chat able... and can't even post on the Lodestone since it won't accept my Main Character (keeps telling me I haven't chosen one). *sigh* Working for next few days, so hopefully the kinks will be worked out. Moving in next 2-3 weeks, so if it -is- my WLAN connection (don't get me started on why its WLAN and not via cable)- hopefully will be fixed. Anyway... that's my rage atm. Hate dying or failing crafting due to spontaneous D/C's... and not feeling comfortable joining a dungeon group... (or engaging in the RP I enjoy).....
-
Yeah. Got booted from a cutscene and... 3102 "still logged in" for past hour now. Sent in a ticket... but *drop in the ocean* No chat support, so SOL. :frustrated::frustrated::frustrated::frustrated::frustrated::frustrated:

Really hoping for a Community type Player Housing thing. Where... if I got to my house, I can either a.) make it private for myself and selected friends/guildies b.) make it public (to make a storefront or restaurant or dance club or hotel or... whatever our creative RP minds can come up with.... but overall, make so that is it entirely able to be decorated and items looted from the world used in creative ways.
-
and the implementation of houses... tho they will be ungodly expensive. Still... its something. (wish we could build them ala SWG or Vanguard... but an EQ2 version of instances is... okay too... as long as it doesn't shunt all RP into 'inaccessible' areas and create a dead public RP community.
-
haha feel ya, Lren. Sat in the '1017 dance' for an hour, finally get in... for mayyyyybe 5 min... then kicked again. I swear... I'll never get my dungeons unlocked or quests done.
-
I suppose you have a point... But... *sighs* A person can dream. ((seriously- I CAN see how it would be time consuming and not cost effective... I -do- understand. But at the same time, if RPers love a game, they will remain in it far longer than the PvE/PvPers that burn through to endgame, then complain about how 'boring' the game is now. I mean... hell- you worked for SOE. I know for a fact that I, and my "crew", would not have remained in SWG as long as we had- even past the NGE- if it hadn't been for the RP community. Still, yes, it tanked b/c not enough PvEers... (but that was partially due to poor choices of the company (and subsequent rejection of all things SOE, even after the attempt to return it to prior form), not players). It was a solid niche game that really DID cater to the RPers... and for that, I shall always hold SWG close to my heart. And miss it. A lot.))

^^^^^ That. I have guildies complaining about lack of RP. But seriously- part of RP is being able to relax and enjoy it. I can't relax. And I'm not alone in this- other guildies feel the same- or are simply unable to get on. I'm stressed and feel pressured to 'hurry up and get a bit further before you get kicked again'. I'm nearly L30, but have yet to open Toto or Hakke... and part of my IC story is being a Monk. I've had 3 good RP sessions since launch... and I'm happy with them. I have another RP session planned- but the other essential member of that RP hasn't logged in for days (and other members might be interested/included in the RP, but... well you all know that even on the BEST days, getting RPers on at a certain time and at a certain place is like herding cats. These are far from best days... so its just... impossible... til the servers are fixed). So yeah... right now? Focusing on trying to advance... but really, really missing the RP.
-
I've always thought... if the devs just did this: - Created a RP designated server - Upon choosing to roll on said server, there is a brief explanation of what a RP server is, that there will be naming and behaviour rules. And the sanctions should they be violated. This is a box you must 'check' that you've read and understood before progressing. - The name generator is coded to allow for appropriate names. Of course, some will slip through the cracks (humans are creative!) but would help weed out some - For the first bit of the game's launch- there is a dedicated group of mods that are responsive to reports and complaints- and will punish those that do not adhere to the rules they HAD TO READ and CHECK. - Per the Rules, an offensive name can be changed to an inoffensive one. A griefer is given 3 warnings to stop their behaviour- then unceremoniously transplanted to another server w/o the ability to transfer back. Their account would be 'marked'. If they continue to be asshats, they can have their account removed. Honestly, this would only have to go on for a few months, stringently following the rules for the word to get out that the GM's mean business.... then the policing shouldn't have to be so rigorous. Of course, likewise, those people that report other RPers/players out of spite and for no reason could ALSO be warned and unceremoniously removed.... So yeah... dedicated GMs to police and investigate such things for a few months til everything calms and the word gets out.... Then hopefully a more happy, healthy environment of RPers and PvEers that are RP-tolerant.

I am hoping... that -initially- they will block new characters from being added to the presently over-filled servers, forcing those that don't really care what server they join to go to one of the new ones. Also hoping for free char transfers- in case friends from existing servers want to go with the friends that have to go to another server- thus freeing up the over-filled servers. THEN.... Open up the overfilled servers (with newly expanded load) to new members- that way... give all the servers a chance to even out. Yes, I know that sucks for folks wanting to come to Balmung/Gilgamesh... but if they allow for free transfers... maybe those characters you've created on another server can be moved to Balmung/Gilgamesh.... Can always hope. I want to see all our community with those they want to be with... but don't want to endure this 1017 nonsense anymore.... And would REALLY love it if Super Uterus and other... such... named characters might have a chance to vacate....
-
right now... I just don't feel 'stable' enough to devote time to RPing... since I tend to be more of an immersive, focused RPer vs a tavern, idle chat sort. I still keep getting the spontaneous boot from the game just -playing- it. (as I type this, got booted from the game running to a quest destination) Part of me just wants to sit in a rest zone and craft -just in case- I get booted... at least I'm getting rest XP if I can't get back in.
-
Oohhh my first composite! *is giddy* thank you!
-
We can only hope. I miss having the chance to stalk my shy, reclusive, carby loving DW scholar....

This sounds excellent... keep us apprised of your performances!
