  1. I dunno how to say this nicely, and I don't want to scare you off, but. You need to work on your literacy skills. Practice writing and spelling - Grammar, punctuation, the whole nine yards. Normally people are pretty laid back and you can get away with typo's, or even with not capatalizing.. But the large amount of spelling errors will turn people off. A tip for that - Type up your posts/whatever you're going to say in a word document first, and spell check is your friend. Moving on from that - Welcome to the RPC! We hope you enjoy your stay. What server are you on?
  2. Akhutai snorts at the bread statement. Bread! FAh! No one ever died from lack of bread. Or did they? He spends a moment contemplating that, one of the bigger mysteries of life.. A hand lifting, fingers tapping lightly against the scales lining his jaw. Taptap. Finally, her comment about 'Home' settles in and he smiles a bit, nodding.. "Home. Home is.. Nice." He agrees, "Little One is not.. Wanting many home? Home here, home there. When one is travel, home is.. Everywhere."
  3. There's a snort through his nose, "Buy food? Fah!" He waves a hand dismissively off to the side, before motioning to her bow. "Hunt food. Hunter!" He reminds her, grinning a bit. He shifts a bit, settling in to take a seat more properly across from his newfound companion. Friend? Associate? Salesperson. Whatever she is. Legs cross, and his hands rest on his knees. "Why is Hunter.. Here?" With a motion to their surrounding area. "World is big! Bigger than U'ldah."
  4. Akhutai lofts an eyebrow slightly at the first exclamation, considering that. A tilt to his head, before he shrugs a shoulder and nods his agreement - 'Turtle' seems like an apt description when he's decked out in armor and shield, turtling behind it. He turns his attention to her bow, leaning forward a bit for a closer look. "Mm. Hunter is taking good care of weapon?" He wonders, peering at her a bit. "Is important, good care. Weapon is being best friend.. Always at ones side. Never leaving, never judging, always help." A glance down at her wares, "Selling.. To buy new?"
  5. His 'weapon' at this point is just a dagger at his hip, looking to perhaps be made of a sharp stone with a bit of leather wrapped around the grip. He tilts his head, shaking it after a moment. "Akhutai is.. Adventurer. Wall." He offers, lifting an arm and bending it infront of his body, other hand patting his forearm where a shield would be attached, reiterating "Wall, yes?" He squints a bit at her then, arm dropping. "Is being nice to meet, Hunter." Reaching out to pat her head next, with a big grin. "Hunter is.. Merchant? No adventure?"
  6. Akhutai grinned when she repeated his name back to him - though, he seems to think it meant something else judging by his response.. Pointing at her with a curious expression, perhaps a bit disbelieving, "Akhutai?" He questions, looking for confirmation that she is, in fact, also Akhutai. A moment and his attention shifts back to her wares curiously, finger rummaging through the tidbits of things. Junk, surely - But he seems to think they're actually somewhat.. Precious? The 'stall' is not unlike the ones of his homeland, afterall. There, things like feathers and pretty stones are often traded as keepsakes and momento's as valuable as any other trade goods. He doesn't seem to see anything else he likes enough to add to his hair or clothing though, and lifts his attention back to her once more.
  7. He looks back at the feather, then at the girl. "Two?" He repeats, snorting. "Two to little. Worth more." He huffs, other hand moving back to fish into one of many pockets on his clothes.. Pulling out a whole /five/ coins. He plinks them down on the mat near to her, before bringing some of his braids around over his shoulder. He neatly tucks that ratty feather into one, carefully as though it were some great treasure. A big smile is given, holding up the braid for her to see, already lined with other small beads and bits of various gems tied into it. "Is nice, yes?" It's then tossed back over his shoulder, beads clacking togethr as it settles. He rests back, arms on his knees again.. A hand tapping his chest lightly, "Akhutai."
  8. He stood quietly, letting the crowd continue to flow around him as he looked at the girl. She was even smaller than the women of his race, which were still a solid two feet shorter than him on average. Several long moments pass before he finally seems to settle on something, a certain look on his face.. Almost of determination? But not as big as all that. A few steps carry him closer to the 'stall' ran by the teenaged Miqo'te, his attention dropping to her wares laid out.. Dropping down to rest on the balls of his feet, arms on his knees, bringing him much closer to eye level and less towering... A hand reaches down then to take one of those feathers, a bright smile lighting up his face, apparently unnoticing of how ragged that particular feather is, how much worse off than the others it looks. He spins it around a moment, then holds it up infront of her, speaking simple words in that broken common tongue of his, "How much is being?"
  9. It takes a certain personality to keep things together, and I think by and large those of us who haven't found our groups to play with - Whether it be an FC or just a group of friends - Aren't of that 'leader' type personality. The one who sort of.. encourages the group down a given plot line or somesuch. The ingame DM as it were. So, in joining with an FC, we're getting that 'leadership' personality to follow.
  10. So I read the first page, skimmed the middle pages, and read this last page. IT seems that most of what people are talking about, or questioning, or whathaveyou is concerning the 'established' RP community and lack of newblood and whether or not thats good, right? Here's my take on it. I've been on Balmung since the first days of ARR. I was on.. Whatever the original server was called back in 1.0, too.. But, even having been around that long, I don't know if I'd ever say I hit the status of an 'established' RPer. I never felt like I could say with confidence that more than.. 20 people knew the name of whatever character was my active one at the time. Now, this is mostly due to me of course - I'm pretty reclusive, quiet, I like to watch and I don't come out of my shell very often. My problems, not the servers problems. I quit FFXIV for several months, twice. I dropped prior to HW, came back and played through 3.0, then left again due to no social ties keeping me here. Again, I'd failed to come out of my shell and make friends, which is what really will keep me coming back to a game like this. Now, I'm back again - And at this point, after having been gone so long, I would almost consider myself 'new blood' to the server. I'm definitely not new to RPing, but I don't know who /anyone/ is, and am effectively new to literally every RP clique/group/whatever here... And honestly? It's overwhelming. It's scary. I know just about every RPer and every FC and every LS and every everything in the history of things says that they're open and inclusive and stuff.. But from the outside looking in, its very cliqueish. Everything thats here already is.. Here. IT's established. Storylines have been playing out for months, for years, and it's incredibly overwhelming trying to find something that you can just jump into the middle of and not be washed away in the flood of things.. And this fear, this overwhelming quality, might push a lot of returning players off of Balmung to MAteus or somesuch where the RP is more fresh, where storylines might seem 'new' and less.. Aged? What I'm saying, I guess, is that I think there is a definite need for new blood, if only because of other new blood. I think it would be easier for me, if I could meet someone else in a similar situation.. Someone else who was 'new' to the server, whether due to returning to the game after a long hiatus or being actually new to the server.. Then that person and I would be in the same boat, and we'd be able to find that 'new' RP in each other. Begin to establish our own stories, that we could then begin to work our way into something else. Take from that what you will.
  11. Akhutai was a strange man - Some might call him a creature, really - but man he is. A strange one, in a strange land. He often got stares where ever he went, he figured it was due to his height and nothing related to the scales lining his jaw, breastbone, elbows, thighs, calves, tail.. Or those horns sticking from where ears should be on the sides of his head - Large, beautiful (to him) horns that curved forward and hung, ever present, at the outsides of his peripherals. He didn't notice the stares much, anymore. He'd been here in Ul'dah for... A couple of weeks, now? In Eorzea for several months longer than that. It was strange at first, those in Akhutai's homeland didn't stare at his kind. Sometimes, he missed that... the lack of attention, the ability to just sort of.. Blend in amongst the crowds. Not that he knew much about that even, being from a more remote mountain tribe as he is. But, none of that now. Akhutai gave a shake of his head, the braids falling down his back clattering lightly as beads clicked and clacked together with the movement. On through the crowd. To those who look with any amount of interest - Any more than the common 'what in the twelve is that' types of looks, Akhutai likely gives off the impression of one of a few things - Either he's a dragon (He's not), homeless (Possibly), some sort of brigand (Not judging by how curious he is about even simple things), or some sort of adventurer (Ding ding!). He has a sword strapped to his hip.. Simple, but of decent make. Long, heavy blade.. One handed though. There's a shield at his back as well.. And the way those muscles are thick along his arms, he's atleast /capable/ of using them, though with any amount of skill is yet to be seen. He stops occasionally in his wandering through the streets, to look curiously at this or that.. And sometimes openly stare. He does just so now, at a young beggar. Head cocked to the side, just.. Watching. The crowd hustles and bustles past him, a few rude grumbles and the like at the 'brute' blocking traffic, not that he seems to care. Hell, he hardly even seems to understand since he gives no response or hint of the words having any meaning. What makes this one so much.. Less than the rest? Why are some so proud, while others so destitute? Hm. ((I'm not on Mateus, but hope you don't mind if I hop in!))
  12. Hello! I actually play on Balmung currently, so there's little chance of us playing together in game (Barring aserver change to Mateus which... Might happen anyways), but I also keep strange hours compared to most of my fellow Americans, due to working a night shift. My most active times are 830AM till about 12 CST, which is when most people are at work or sleeping, but I believe these times are.. Evening/night for the EU? Anyways There's an extravagant process we can go through that involves party finder and dungeons, but we can be friends in game if you want to ask questions! Or, just PM me here. Welcome to FFXIV and the HRC and stuff. Get ready for a wild ride, it's worth it.
  13. Where, exactly, is the house located? So that one might take a look if interested.
  14. There is a Lalafell child arguing with a Hyur child of probably similar age, adopted by a Roegadyn father, in the Gold Saucer. She uses the same model as the adult Lalafell, so there's reason to believe it's pretty hard to judge their age based off appearances. Of course, this could just be the effects of a growth spurt, and she has only just recently jumped from miniscule to small. This is not to say they look eternally young, but the structure and physiology of their body perhaps just doesn't show age in the same way larger Spoken do. This could also simply be a limitation of game mechanics and not actually anything indicating the appearance of age at all - Rather, SE decided not to take the time to design a specifically child-like Lalafell for the purposes of that, when they figured a regular avatar would do just fine... Which is, I think, one half of the debate Unnamed Mercenary mentions (How some people say all are equal due to the fact that all are equal in the game, whereas others say they're not equal but the game can't accurately portray that and remain balanced mechanics-wise)
  15. Akhutai Angura, of.. You guessed it, the Angura tribe! Nice to meet you all.
  16. Me too! That's definitely a big part of games like this, and a big part of the addiction. Last time, I had an FC and stuff but I never felt particularly tied to it, and so when it all fell apart and the FC merged with another one, I just kind of.. Didn't go with? Because I never felt like I was part of the FC to begin with. Hoping I find something better this time.
  17. This is actually not true. The Common tongue was created by Hyuran priests during the 4th Astral Era and because the Hyur seem to travel everywhere, dialects of that Common tongue seem to show up in many places. However, there are many many languages out there in the world besides Common. The Au Ra, for example, have tons of languages unique to their tribes. You can read more about some of the different languages of the world here. Like I mentioned above, the Au Ra have several languages, though the ancient Auri tongue, which most Xaela use today for inter-tribe communication, is based on Mongolian. SE throws in a few made-up, Mongolian-sounding phrases, but it's mostly Mongolian based. Well lay me sideways.. It's been entirely too long since I've looked into that, apparently! ^.^ Thank you much for the links.
  18. It's been fun reading this - I don't/didn't know how the lore answered those questions about the Au'Ra as well, and I play one.. So it's good to know HOW their hearing actually works (I assumed it was something with vibrations, but didn't know about the hollow horns). As for the tails, I generally play that like a dogs tail? Not stiff persay, but not sensitive. They have some control over it, its able to curl a bit (Scales aren't flexible afterall, but being that they're.. scales.. they have some amount of movement similar to scaled armor). One thing I've never been able to find in the lore, and this is only slightly related but not really because it's a more social aspect rather than biological but still none-the-less interesting - A language thing. There are some pieces I've seen cited elsewhere that suggest everyone on this world, on every continent, speak the same language due to the whole.. bad-guy army taking over everywhere, and universalizing their language. But, personally, I like to play Akhutai has speaking a very broken common, due to being from a tribe that sticks to the mountains and away from society, only coming down for trading and such, meaning only those who were traders would actually take the time to learn any amount of common while the others would speak their natural tongue. Now, wrapping that back into the biology question.. What would the natural tongue of an Au'ra sound like? Would it be comparable to English versus German vs Arabian, in how they're speakable by everyone who knows them? Or would an Au'ra speak in something more guttural and feral, something that only they can speak fluently due to the development of their throats and such, similar to how a Miqo'te pronounces those 'h' sounds so uniquely?
  19. Hi! Welcome to the game. I'm a just now returning player - Poor Akhutai is still at Level 60, running around in his end game gear from Heavensward looking like a fish out of water - But if you want to make friends with a 'naive' and tribal Xaela Au'ra, hit up Akhutai Angura! I'll also tank for your dungeons.
  20. Up the street from Marisa's stall comes the shouting and hustle and bustle of... Something? happening. A curious onlooker might first have trouble seeing through the throng of people making there way to and fro from this stall or that, not to mention the tangle of folks that seems to be caused by - Or causing - the commotion.. Until, finally, the form of an Auri male makes itself visible, being shoo'd away from a stall by a particularly old bitty, swinging a broom around like she were the Warrior of Light returned to vanquish the male, despite her stooped back and other such things that come with age. Akhutai though, the Auri being 'persecuted' here, is trying to make his way quickly away from the woman hitting him in the back with a broom while also trying to not push and shove other passersby - LAst thing he needs is to upset someone else. The old woman only chases him a few feet to make sure he's away from her stall before returning to it.. Leaving Akhutai to stand in the middle of the street, looking over the heads of all by his fellow male Au'Ra, and those Roegadyn. This particular Au'ra isn't wearing much.. Scraps of cloth and leather, seemingly random peices of metal and straps make up the majority of his outfit (Don't have a picture at hand, but its basically the Xaela 'default' class outfit thing). After a moment of looking around, letting the commotion die down behind him, Akhutai lets his attention fall on Marisa and her stall. His eyes brighten up, her stall and those trinkets scattered across her makeshift table perhaps bring back a memory of the markets from his homeland. He approaches, again careful not to push and shove /too/ much, until he's standing behind a particularly well dressed Auri female, looking down over her head at the table, keeping his hands to himself for the time being.
  21. Hey! So, after a long hiatus, I'm returning to the game and my dear Akhutai.. For various reasons (Namely, FC/LS falling apart and having no friends or social connections to keep me tied here), I had left back near the start-ish of Heavensward. But! I've been wanting to come back for a while, and I saw that Stormblood was on sale for Black Friday, so I grabbed a copy and am back. With that, Akhutai's ingame history is more or less going to be revamped and rewritten into a more generalized thing, due to me not remembering crap from before. Also interested in looking for a LS or FC, mid-heavy RP probably... Though, I suppose theres a subforum for that I should look through. Anywho.. Hey! It's good to be back. Also, overwhelming.
  22. I.. Don't actually remember HOW I started, but I do remember where. Been RPing on various digital mediums since I was about 10, in the late 90's. I started off in AoL chatrooms (Red Dragon Inn, anyone?) where I explored various aspects of the online RP life, made a lot of friends, lost a lot of friends, so on. From there, I moved onto MUD/MUCK/MUSH's (Text based online games), where.. Basically the same thing happened. The difference here was the characters and settings - AoL chatrooms, your settings were different for each room. The Red Dragon Inn, a slave market, etc. Characters could be literally anything within those terms... But on the MUCKs, you had a more strict thing to keep in. I started off with World of Darkness mucks, making a Werewolf: The Apocalypse character. During that phase, I also moved into forum RP in the forum of GaiaOnline, though that didn't last long comparatively speaking. Next, moved on to WoW via a girlfriend. Once we broke up, transferred servers to an RP Server and that pretty much opened me up to MMO RP. I've been in games like Tabula Rasa, Guildwars 1/2, WoW, SWTOR, Aion, Tera, FFXIV (Obviously), ROSEOnline (..Mistakes were made, Korean MMO's are not the place), Neverwinter (Also not a good place, surprisingly)... And.. Yeah. As to why? I do it to escape. When you RP, you can literally be anyone. RL, I'm a 5'11, 180lb, 29 year old male who has very few friends, next to no social life outside of his volunteer work and girlfriend, and not a lot of self confidence. But in game? Akhutai Angura, an Au'Ra who is pretty much the opposite of me. Very social, curious about life and things, very confident and strong. On a side note though, it is interesting to think of how my insecurities manifest in the RP world - In that Akhutai has a very tribal manner of speech, and doesn't speak 'common' very well at all.. A sort of manifestation of my own social ineptness. Anyways.
  23. Rofl. It's what happens when you paste a picture into the post, instead of the link. >.> <.<
  24. I don't actually know anything about Eleni. I like her picture though, she's real pretty. (That sounds creepy.) And the 'SMILE' under her name makes me smile everytime I read. It's like MAGIC.
