Yea, I really would like to see Squee slow down the day/night cycle in-game a tad. It's frustrating roleplaying a scene at night and watching the sky cycle through dawn, mid-day, dusk, night, dawn again, over and over and over.. D:

Hey there! Welcome to the RPC. ^^ I'm fairly new myself, but it's been a great time getting settled in. High five for wanting to follow naming and cultural conventions with your Keeper miqo'te; there's a lot of fun potential for RP that can stem from that! To answer your question, the character name "Antimony" is one I've used in past MMOs (along with the character name "Naunet"), but it has its origins in a humble bank alt in World of Warcraft. I wanted a kind of "nerdy" name for the bank alt, to follow the theme of someone who spends their days shuffling numbers and inventories, and scoured resources for a while before settling on the element from the periodic table. I ended up liking the name and the character model enough that I started roleplaying her. Oops! The next time Antimony cropped up was in TERA, as a very different kind of "nerdy" character, and then briefly in GW2. And since I decided I wanted to main a healer in ARR (which, healer/support is the common theme of the class selection across the various incarnations of Antimony - as opposed to Naunet who is generally a tank-like character), I took the name Antimony with me over here as well. It took a while to settle on a look for her. I tried elezen (which fit her usual surname, Dumoir, well), and then hyur, but neither really worked. Finally tried making a miqo'te and... it just fit! Of course, then I had the problem that Antimony isn't exactly a miqo'te name, so I created a backstory that allowed her to take a new name, adjusted her last name to be in-keeping with Seeker culture and... there it is.

Except there's no way Hydaelyn is rotating at a speed such that 1 year is only 18 days. That's insane.
-
I don't know why they had to do this. Is it so hard to have a logical date system?! D:

I know the fae in the Shroud are currently in conflict with Gridanians, but I can't recall the details. It has something to do with the beastmen tribes I believe.

When constructing it, I included age brackets for each tier in the family tree, which should give you a general idea of where your character may fall, depending on how old you wish them to be. As far as information on the current nunh(s), K'raqi does actually have a wiki page. When it comes to information on past nunhs, most of them are side characters created by players involved in this, so you may want to ask us about them specifically if you have any questions. Hope this helps!

I don't think this would be the case, as I see them covering very different areas of medicine.
-
Haha, gotta love the mini-rants. Sometimes they just come exploding out. Like demons that must be exorcised! Or exercised. It's important to keep healthy demons in your body. That's official medical stuff there. Make note!

Of course a balance can be struck - which is why in the paragraph following the one you quoted, I talked about how I generally utilize healing magics in roleplay. xP

I really, really, really don't like it when magic is used as a cure-all for wounds and illness. It always strikes me as cheap and cutting out a lot of great potential RP. Oh your character is sick - well it's not really that bad; we just need to find a conjurer/priest/mystic/purifier/insert-healer-of-choice-from-any-other-canon-here and you'll be all better! Yea, no. That's not fun, and it's not really meaningful. It takes the threat of injury and illness away completely, which just makes things feel shallow. Anyway, mini-rant done! I just had to get that out. So I tend to incorporate a lot of real world medicine whenever characters are injured or fall ill. Magic has its place as a form of triage on the battle - closing gaping wounds superficially, lending vigor to a failing body, curing ailments that are magical in nature (but rather useless against non-magical ailments, such as parasites or viruses or bacteria). It's also used as supplemental to the physical medicine being administered - applications of a healing spell to a wound to help maintain healthy blood and mana (aether) circulation in the body and around the wound location, easing of symptoms (such as nausea or fever) from an illness, calming hysteria, and such. Anyway, from what I've seen, though ARR is a fairly fantasy-themed universe, it's also rather technologically advanced, and I'd be willing to bet physicians are more than just holistic healers grasping in the dark and fighting to balance a patient's humours. They likely have a solid understanding of physiology, and I'd hazard a guess that they've developed some fairly sophisticated medical techniques. Not as advanced as real life, likely, with our MRIs and our fancy microscopes that can zero in on things that are just unfathomably small, but just look at all the other technology the people of Hydaelyn have come up with. A society as advanced as that is not going to be stuck in the dark ages when it comes to medicine.

And unparalleled job security! But seriously, I ask because finding people with these kinds of IC backgrounds and/or connections would really help the CRA's roleplay. :3 So ArmachiA (and others), we may want to talk...!

So, I've seen over the past several weeks a number of folk poking at the idea of playing Garlean deserters, which I find a pretty cool concept. The Empire is a lore entity I'm fairly fascinated by - probably because I simply can't resist a bit of science fiction peppered into my fantasy lore, and magitek fits the bill there. Anyway, what I'm really curious about, however, is if anyone out there is planning on roleplaying a Garlean loyalist. Obviously a hidden one. Possibly a spy, or simply a survivor of the Calamity who got separated from the Empire and has been forced to live amongst Eorzeans while hiding their identity and beliefs. Or even better, what about an Eorzean who would welcome Empire rule? Maybe they really do agree with the Empire's moral crusade against beastmen and the primals (and folk with the Echo). Or maybe they're just fed up with all the war and death and have decided that letting the Empire win would be the best solution for everyone because at least then there wouldn't be this constant threat of war. They would be fun challenges for RP, though as long as you're not the over-dramatic type, it's fairly easy to keep secrets like this. I'm really curious, however, if there are any people - aside from the couple I already know of - who are planning on going down this route RP-wise. Why, you may ask? Oh, no reason... *shifty eyes*
-
Haha, I don't know about anyone else, but if I were doing something like that (and I totally have!), I'd be there looking for RP, trying to force people to start something!
-
I've been trolled repeatedly the beta forums just for mentioning RP no matter how off-handedly. I don't know what it is about Final Fantasy people and their hate towards roleplayers - you'd think RPG fans would be more amenable to such a thing, but... It's my understanding XI had a horrible reception to RPers as well. Luckily I'm more than capable of taking lumps.
-
Eh, there's only one way to deal with them, and that's to ignore them. But that's beside the point, which was this: If you feel the need to ask permission to enter an RP scene, feel free to ask. If you don't feel the need to ask permission to enter an RP scene, then don't. It's really that simple!
-
This is patently untrue. In TERA, it's incredibly difficult to RP anywhere remotely public without finding yourself spammed with OOC /say (luckily solvable with a /block), or covered in spell effects from people just spamming spells on top of you, or having someone sit on top of your RP with their mount spamming the spacebar. Griefing was also a reality in my experiences with RP in WoW, Rift, and Aion. To say that griefers are not a concern misrepresents the RP situation in a wide variety of games.
-
Depends on the game.
-
Meh, it really doesn't bother me. My own immersion is a lot more... I guess unshakable would be an appropriate word. It's not something I have to really keep in mind at all times. Immersion is a variable thing from one person to the next, which is why I said both asking for permission and not asking for permission are a-okay.
-
If there are, I would love to hear from them for purely selfish benevolent reasons.
-
I'm all for folk walking up and entering a scene at will, but characterizing asking for permission as creepy is a bit disingenuous. This isn't real life; this is roleplay. It's not unusual for someone to ask if it's alright if they enter a scene - just as it shouldn't be unusual for someone to simply enter a scene without asking. More often than not, if I see folks roleplaying and want to take part in it, I'll just find a way to get my character involved and let whatever happens happen. Sometimes, though, if the scene seems particularly intense (especially if said intense RP is happening in a place that isn't a crowded, public area like a city or a tavern or something), I may send an OOC whisper asking if it's alright if I involve myself.
-
Yea, see, I don't subscribe to the notion that roleplayers should feel the need to take RP to party or whispers just to avoid griefers. That takes the RP away from the server. But I sure as hell am going to ignore someone who runs up all "HAI GUISE *takes off pants*", because 99% of the time, that person is a griefer through and through. I've also ICly responded to someone walking up and asking in /say where they could find glyph vendors in TERA, so it's not like I just ignore any walk-up RP that happens. But I am not going to hide away just to avoid griefers. I am not ashamed of my roleplay, and I'm not going to act like I should be.
-
Fun to look at these results. ^^ It's a good thing I'm not letting the number of people playing a race bother me in my own decision though, haha. The server breakdown worries and bothers me. I wish people could just converge on just one non-legacy server instead of kicking themselves in the gut.

In phase three, they were sharing space with the Maurader's Guild. Who knows if they'll get a space of their own whenever Squee decides to implement them.

The Front The Commerce Regulation Agency has been tasked with assisting the Grand Companies in the unification process to integrate the disparate Eorzean city-states. With such varied economic interests, there is a clear and present need for strong counseling and oversight throughout unification, as well as the open sharing of research that could contribute to our stand against the Garlean Empire. The CRA encourages smaller entities to permit themselves to be annexed by the Grand Companies of Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah, and Gridania, in order to allow for a more smoothly functioning society in our new, cooperative reality. The CRA will take upon itself the responsibility of ensuring all individual parts within this union work with one another for the greater whole. The Rumors One person's fearful whispering can spread lies and half-truths; the more fantastic, the more likely. These whisperings are of the fate of those who draw the attention of the CRA. Oh, their auditors and investigators are polite enough, and they'd never dream of forcing anything on anyone. But sometimes, in the wake of the CRA's passage, groups destabalize that one would not suspect to have. Sometimes, people go missing. Sometimes, unfortunate happenings transpire unexplained. The common thread is the CRA and their well-meaning interlopers. Of course, that's just the rumor. And for those who are against the unification of the Grand Companies, it's a very convenient rumor to spread around. The Truth The truth? No one knows the truth. As far as all of Eorzea is concerned, there is no truth. The CRA serves the Grand Companies and roots out disruptive elements. The CRA places itself into the main routes of exchange and communication throught the city-states so that they may serve as oil in the gears of commerce. But is that the extent of the truth? Or is there something more known to the handful who direct the CRA? There are no rumors of this: not that they in fact report to a concealed individual who carries the will of an empire. Nor that they are preparing to give Eorzea away to foreign annexation without a fight. You do not know these things; you do not suspect. None do, except for perhaps the CRA's council of directors. --- Please submit an application to receive your contract and linkpearl with the CRA.

That means Nophica must be a three-headed sea serpent! It all makes sense now! But brb, converting to Nald'thal.
