Hivernal Posted May 17, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2015 Hello all. As mentioned in my welcome post, I have been working on a Google Sheets database of all canon items in Hydaelyn that we know of (so far). The list - as you can imagine - is exhaustive and this project is still a work-in-progress, but I wanted to share it with you in its current state. Basically, it's a list of references. Have you ever wondered if vanilla exists on Hydaelyn and whether it's canon? Well, you're in luck. It does! Same goes for cashmere or peacocks or potassium nitrate! Please let me know what you think and I hope it's useful to everyone. Also, mods, if this post needs moving somewhere more appropriate, feel free to. Thanks in advance everyone. I look forward to your feedback. >> Encyclopaedia of Eorzean Entities 11 Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted May 18, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 18, 2015 Good lawdy lawd I can't even begin to imagine how monstrous of a task this is. Good on you for tackling it--I'll bookmark this page if there's ever a question of whether a mineral or item is canon. Though seeing as how Hydaelyn is an Earth-like planet, it would seem that most of the elements known to our science would be known to theirs, though dated backwards to whatever medieval time period would best "fit" this game's universe. ...well...medieval if one ignores the Magitek thing. Warren Castille Posted May 18, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 18, 2015 This is one of the most intensive projects I've seen regarding XIV lore. I'd love to see it completed, but holy shit the personal costs. Minor aside: There's a whole set of foot gear called "duckbills." I'm yet to see a duck in XIV! Link to comment

Sounsyy Posted May 18, 2015 Share #6 Posted May 18, 2015 Minor aside: There's a whole set of foot gear called "duckbills." I'm yet to see a duck in XIV! Duck Bones It is an oft-forgotten fact that Frandelont Raimdelle, famed naturalist, father of modern taxonomy, and author of the Raimdelle Codex, tried multiple times (without success) to classify the common duck - most obviously a cloudkin - as a spoken, believing their incessant quackings to be a highly developed language beyond the comprehension of mankind. Also this is a great resource and the time you took is much appreciated, I know cuz I tried doing something similar, just in thread format instead of google doc. Definitely great work so far! Dasair Posted May 18, 2015 Share #7 Posted May 18, 2015 Oh man, this seems amazing. Every sort of luck to you completing it, but I would definitely like to see it done too. *o* This is one of the most intensive projects I've seen regarding XIV lore. I'd love to see it completed, but holy shit the personal costs. Minor aside: There's a whole set of foot gear called "duckbills." I'm yet to see a duck in XIV! In terms of seeing ducks.. Actually, I know people were calling the birds in the Heavensward trailer 'doves' or what have you, but I've always thought they looked suspiciously like ducks myself, considering their yellow bills and size. Then again, gods know if they are just an ffxiv equivalent or something entirely different. Here is the link to the trailer just before the birds fly by, for anyone curious. (assuming the link works the way I hope it will) Edit: nope. Hm. https:// youtu.be/4phUCJlomPo?t=3m18s <- Just copy paste this instead without the spaces after the //. Link to comment
Hivernal Posted May 18, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted May 18, 2015 Thank you all and you're welcome! I usually take a few hours at weekend mornings when it's quiet to update the database. With work and an impending house move, added to my concurrent effort at writing a fanfiction title, I don't get a huge amount of time, but definitely keen to keep at it (especially since when Heavensward hits it will be a WHOLE NEW WORLD of updates). If you have any suggestions or want to help out, by all means, let me know. If anything can be displayed with more clarity, you want to clear up a fact or to tell me I've made a mistake, likewise! I haven't been here long but already touched by all of your kindness and enthusiasm. Will continue to keep myself busy! Link to comment
Hivernal Posted May 20, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted May 20, 2015 Just a quick update: Added another sheet (Lore Bits) and more entries. Also changed the permission settings so people can comment if they wish. I believe if you log in with a Google account, you can use the chat function on there too! Link to comment
TheLastCandle Posted May 20, 2015 Share #10 Posted May 20, 2015 I mostly assume any RL plant or animal exists in Eorzea in some form or another, but still appreciate the thought and time that went into this. Will be using it for sure! Link to comment
Hivernal Posted June 18, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted June 18, 2015 Hello all! I would just like to announce that I'll be taking a short hiatus from updating the sheet whilst I play early access over the weekend. I think trying to do both things (knowing how stressed I get that I can't do everything at once) would make me even more crazy, but I shall be updating it! Please don't worry about that. Thank you all for your continued support with the project and I hope that you're finding it useful in some way. I wish you all happy tidings in the new areas! Be safe exploring and adventuring. Hivernal Posted June 23, 2015 Author Share #12 Posted June 23, 2015 Hope you all had a fun-filled Early Access weekend! As promised, I have started to update the database (slowly, I have tonnes to do in-game). All of the sheets are now grey and Heavensward entries are coloured green, so you can clearly see which patch they come from. Should help finding new things and cross-referencing a little easier. Enjoy and thanks again! Link to comment

Hivernal Posted February 3, 2016 Author Share #14 Posted February 3, 2016 Hello all! Just wanted to let you know that I do still upkeep this and I'm adding to it pretty much every other day. There's a lot to contribute and I find little pieces of information all of the time that need putting on there; moreso playing another character through the MSQ and catching lore bits here, there, everywhere. Please let people know if you think they'd find it interesting or useful. No, I haven't given up on it yet! 1 Link to comment
Kage Posted April 25, 2016 Share #15 Posted April 25, 2016 Hello, I (admittedly) have not spent much time checking your blog or status. Are you current to Patch 3.25? Link to comment
