V'aleera Posted October 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2015 It wasn't great either. Tons of exposition and a lot of really hamfisted feminist messages. I'm all for sending strong messages in media, but this was done with the subtlety of a brick to the face. On the bright side, the show has a solid cast and a decent premise to move forward with. If I still judged a series based on its first episodes rather than its first season I'd be pessimistic, but Agents of SHIELD taught me not to do that anymore. Link to comment
Lydia Lightfoot Posted October 27, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2015 Hamfisted feminist messages. Supergirl. Character in-series is 24 years old according to IMDB. Cough. Link to comment

-no longer matters- Posted October 27, 2015 Share #6 Posted October 27, 2015 The problem with it was they tried to cram sooooooo much into 48 minutes. Now the bright side to that, that's a lot of crap we don't have to deal with going forward. Also I still think Agents of Shield is horrible.... I have no idea why I still watch it.. I guess I keep hoping it will stop being horrible and Chloe Bennet will learn how to act or show some range or leave.. and when Fitz and Simmons die horrible deaths I want to make sure I don't miss it I guess... My scope on super heroes as only as wide as Iron Man. Link to comment

Using the internet automatically contradicts that statement. I'm just saying, if you view any media anywhere (including the internet) you are receiving a message that has likely been influenced (if not created) by private, often commercial, interests. The problem with it was they tried to cram sooooooo much into 48 minutes. Now the bright side to that, that's a lot of crap we don't have to deal with going forward. These are my thoughts exactly. Pilots inevitably come with a whole host of issues related to starting an entirely new series. As far as other shows are concerned, I'd have to say Flash is my current favorite. Daredevil was really good too though, and I'm really looking forward to Jessica Jones. Link to comment

It was a jok, I was not offended in any way:) And for instance, because everyone is all "ohhhhh guns are bad" owning a gun would prove that media does not have a hold of me. But everything was meant in joking 1 Link to comment

I have thought about watching Flash because isn't that the same boy that was in Arrow? I watched Arrow for the first season. After the second I decided I was done with it. It had promise but, to me, it just got very campy and very awful very quickly. Flash seemed to be exactly the same way, and I haven't seen anything out of it to tell me otherwise. Link to comment

If camp is the issue, you might enjoy Marvel's Netflix series (Daredevil and the upcoming Jessica Jones). They're a lot more grounded in nature and a bit grittier in presentation. Also I'd prefer to have this discussion about awful media personalities with awful overcombs moved elsewhere. Link to comment

I'm looking forward to Jessica Jones =) I have to admit that campy stuff just isn't for me unless it's some sort of B or C-movie. Then I at least go into it expecting it, you know? Link to comment

V'aleera Posted October 28, 2015 Author Share #23 Posted October 28, 2015 Darn feminazis ruining everything with equality and stuff. I'm all for feminism and all for equality, but this pilot got kind of ridiculous with it. It was a constant stream of on the nose "I'm so glad there's a female super hero/what you don't think she do it because she's a GIRL?!!". Even the villain had an over-dramatic line like "On my planet women BOW before men!" It was almost as bad as the Buffy season 6 episode where she beat a villain by crushing the two magical orbs he held in a leather sack at the front of his waist. Getting beyond that though, it's got a very robust female cast, decent writing, and special effects on par with its peers in the genre. The lead actress in particular really nails the character and is one of my top reasons to be optimistic about the show. Link to comment
