So in this case, talking about [insert American political triggerword, such as 'socialism'] would be opening the can of worms, since people can get very emotionally overwrought by the topic. . . .or the simpler version wikipedia just gave me: A can of worms is a complex, troublesome situation arising when a decision or action produces considerable subsequent problems. edit- now Riki beat me!
