Dravus Posted December 12, 2016 Share #26 Posted December 12, 2016 I enjoyed it despite the flaws. It didn't manage to top FF12, FF9 or FF Tactics as the 'big three' which I adore the most in the franchise. (Though I guess I should consider it to be the 'big four' if I include FF14...) I did like it a lot more than FF13 though after completing the game I was left feeling like there was a lot of lost potential in terms of character interaction, explorable zones and pacing. I also feel like too much of note happened offscreen or in media outside of the game itself. Link to comment
Edda Posted December 12, 2016 Share #27 Posted December 12, 2016 Looking at the old scripts and storyboards for Versus 13 and its two planned sequels, it makes me a bit sad. Cramming two games into one never does good things for the story (though it could have been worse with 3, the beginning of the series being re-purposed into Kingsglaive). There were a lot of characters from the earlier trailers that I was looking forward to seeing more of, only to find that they were barely in the game at all. It's still a fun game though, despite being an unfinished one. That's just the norm these days, sadly. God forbid you did it before every console had an internet connection. Still, the characters were endearing and I enjoyed the combat system. Fishing though. My god. I could do that shit for hours. Even Justice Monsters 5... It's like Final Fantasy X all over again. When the minigame can stand to be more compelling than the actual game itself. Now the question is: Will I live long enough to see Final Fantasy 16? Link to comment

Nope. and yeah, I got two of the 99AP things strictly from fishing I think. I want more Arenea. (I prolly spelled that wrong) Link to comment
V'aleera Posted December 12, 2016 Share #29 Posted December 12, 2016 Fishing though. My god. I could do that shit for hours. Catching the giant fish was definitely one of the most tense and satisfying parts of the game. Link to comment
Val Posted December 12, 2016 Share #30 Posted December 12, 2016 I thought the game was a nice taste of what a FF sandbox could be. I've had other friends ask me about it and I've told them that they'd probably be disappointed. If you're going into the game looking for a robust story, tons of character development, and a unique Final Fantasy experience, you're... not going to get it? But the gameplay is fine. It's fun, even! The game's story just plays a lot more like a movie than it does a FF game. People that have never played the series will probably not care, but.. anyone that has can see what they'd intended the game to be. Certain characters that are very well designed, more so than just your average NPC, either contribute nothing to the story at all or are only there for like two scenes. Characters that feel like they'd have once been very important to the story are cast aside. You never explore any of the character's back stories. As a game, it's fine. As a story, it's okay. As a final fantasy story? It's... eh. And the whole Kingsglaive thing? I thought it was a neat side thing, but I honestly wish they would have just allowed the movie to be more gameplay. ...Then again, the whole thing feels like it was just a bit of a rushed side project to give some sort of back story since absolutely none exists in the game itself. 1 Link to comment
Valence Posted December 13, 2016 Share #31 Posted December 13, 2016 I want to backpedal on what I said about Noctis as a main character. His blandness/apathy besides a handful of smart assed lines at the beginning, seems to actually be by design, as he gets a lot of scorn for that by some of his buddies the more it progresses. V'aleera Posted December 13, 2016 Share #32 Posted December 13, 2016 Noctis grows on you. While the narrative absolutely suffered in the latter half of the game, his character really came into its own, especially toward the end. His English VA is actually going to be doing an AMA on reddit tomorrow. Link to comment
Aaron Posted December 14, 2016 Share #33 Posted December 14, 2016 Game was great for me. I'd erase my memory just to play it for the first time again if I could. Totally prefer the new battle system over that dumb turn based thing. Link to comment
Faye Posted December 23, 2016 Share #34 Posted December 23, 2016 I just finished it. I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING. Link to comment
