I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but Gilgamesh should be aware of the risks with rolling on the same server as 2/3rds of the internet trolls and not handwave it off as "Oh it's just the internet"

I hope people trying to carve out a path are prepared for the worst, even if the worst never happens

I'll put up a post to this effect in a bit, but...why can't we pick a different server (Behemoth?) as our non-Legacy server?  Right now Gilgamesh is just a name.  No reason we can't simply take our settlers and move to a different server.

Thanks for your concern. Those who are terrified listen to this man he knows what he is talking about.

Those who aren't see you on Gilgamesh.

I simply won't run or be scared of some jerk behind a screen. Nope won't do it.

... really don't want this thread to de-evolve....

I'm going to Gilga because that's where my LS of friends I've met in GW2 are going. But... I do NOT want to be mercilessly griefed. Some griefing- yeah... that happens, just ignore. But  when it starts distracting RP focus and annoying the hell out of me, I'm ready to smack someone.

Yes, can /ignore... words. But not spell actions and emotes, or hopping a mount up and down on your head as you RP.

No, I don't want to be run off of a server or a place due to these dink-wads...

But for me there comes a time when enduring this shit just isn't worth the fight to RP against. Call me weak, call me faithless, call me whatever name you want.

Life is just too short and games are supposed to be fun.

That said... I'm rolling a my Miqo'te on Gilgamesh. I'm gonna give it a shot and not back away due to fears of griefing by 4chan and reddit... when it MIGHT not happen.

I'm gonna give the community a chance... That's what my FC is planning too. We all want to have a great RP experience and contribute to great RP.

BUT.

I'm also rolling on Balmung with my Duskwright.

I plan to be fully invested and am (frankly) excited to RP with the DW's and others I've encountered here that are going to Balmung. I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to working with Legacies. I have nothing but respect for all the hard work and heartache they've endured to *finally* see this game they'd wanted to come out to come out. I think it's an awesome opportunity to have such resources to help generate RP stories and bounce ideas/concepts off of.

I'm not wishy washy.

I very much want a great RP experience and want to contribute to great RP interactions... I want to enjoy logging in and working with folks... not working AGAINST griefers.

I have a job. I don't need my game to be another one that I have to PAY to endure.

That said... we had the vote, we had the discussion, that Server horse has been beat up and kicked around and Gilgamesh was the winner. Despite 4chan, reddit and having the highest non-Legacy population of any server, and therefore likely the longest queue times, its where most folks here not going to Balmung are wanting to go.

So.. yes, its just a name, but it was the one chosen due to sentimental value or simple familiarity from playing on Beta...

I really don't see us reopening that can of worms again...

Or... *sees Xerek's post*

Maybe I spoke too soon....

I am going to try my best to not sound even remotely snobbish or elitist here.  So please, read this in your minds as such.  This post is not an attack or a prod, but an actual, honest question and opinion held solely by me from my experience.

_______________________________________________________

If you are considering re-voting and selecting a new server on which to play, why not select Balmung and join the original section of the community under a single banner?  I've never really understood from a Role Play perspective as for why people wanted to roll on another server to begin with.  I can and do understand it's their choice to do so, but I do not however understand why.  The existing player base has been here for almost three years.  That's three years of experience, teamwork, story and friendship.  We aren't going anyways and are always welcoming to new players even after the original launch.  Some joined even towards the end of the era and they were accepted like they had been around since the start.

The only two reasons I can see people wanting to start on another server are the "SERVER FIRST" people and the Hardcore player base who do not want to RP but instead to grind out content as fast as possible so they can lord around in their +1 STR subligar or what have you.  Seeing how Role Players tend to focus on endgame second or third, rather then first, this shouldn't be an issue.

But yet, here we are, with a community split over a simple issue that sounds often time like "We don't want to play with the older kids" because of one bad experience in the past with someone else in another community from a different game.  It's disheartening.

I had actually more or less just said this to someone on skype about the issue. I don't understand the necessity from an RP community standpoint to have split servers. I always thought that in an MMO, maximum exposure for RP was preferred which meant having the most people possible on your server to RP with.

I've seen some people say that they want to join Gilgamesh so they can do things themselves that have already been done on Balmung, and that makes very little sense to me. The one example that comes to mind was someone talking about wanting to run a tavern, but fearing the competition because there were already established tavern rps on Balmung. Why not just join one of those taverns if it's that big of a concern? Or just make one anyways and try to do something unique with it that will attract members.

If you're more concerned with the server economy, starting fresh when others are max level, or not being the first person to beat content than you are about RP... I have to ask, why are you even here then? That sounds mean, but it's an honest question. This is an RP community, and at one point it was a single, unified community where people could play together. Now it's not unified at all, and I can see a lot of resentment on both sides over something so trivial. Several months from now any new players to the game and the community will only really have which name they like more to help decide which server to join because they'll both be exactly the same. Why not just skip all the growing pains, if you're really that concerned over how well Gilgamesh will fare, and just stick to original server and enjoy the RP.

1. I'm female.

2. I'm not afraid. I've ran with this people, I've done what these people do. I know what they are capable of and it's not an issue of being afraid, it's an issue of being constantly interrupted from what you like to do. Hell, come Vampire: The Masquerade I'm rolling with them again, but as I want to roleplay I will not be on the same server as them.. because I know what they do. No one wants their in game character name stolen - but it happened. No one wants their guild name stolen - but it happened. No one wants to have flying penis's interrupt their interview - but it's happened (

), no one wants a bunch of trolls to take over their entire game - but it happened (EvE). This is what they DO and it's a very real concern, not one you can hand wave off as fear.

Saying that it's fear waves me off as a concern troll and it's like I'm being talked down to quite frankly ("YOUR Afriad, but WE AIN'T AFRAID, you SCAREDY CAT")

Edit: And, just so we're clear, I'm not someone who has ever said "Just roll on Balmung." I've always been on the side of new people, I've yelled at people who aren't on the side of new people, on here and on the Beta forums. I've tried to explain why people might not be comfortable rolling on Balmung over and over again.

Shakes head at the thought of the Gilgamesh community splitting because new people voiced their concerns to the Gilgamesh people and SOME not ALL are saying they aren't moving because they are where they are want to be and have people who are there they wanna be with....

Sounds familiar...

Anyways be you on Gilgamesh Leviathan Behemoth or any other good luck and have fun!  I will miss you on Balmung but wish you well.  Lots of fun times ahead for all!

You come across like some wannabe tough guy who thinks people who don't want to be actively annoyed by other players are wimps. Fear has nothing to do with it: It's just about wanting to enjoy the game with a minimum of fuss. Gilgamesh is very likely going to be a highly-populated server, and people's hesitation over starting an RP community there is perfectly understandable—if a bit late at this point.

Quite honestly, Gilgamesh is the exact opposite of the sort of place I'd want to try to form an RP community. Lower population servers are unquestionably better for this sort of thing, if for no other reason than that you'll have a better ratio of roleplayers to non-roleplayers. It's hard enough to stumble into RP without going to some agreed-upon tavern even in the best of situations. Setting up on a server that may well hit the population limit just makes things that much worse.

I just want to point out the irony of being afraid of negative-cliques and exclusive behavior from the Balmung community when the moderators of this forum and the (more or less) leaders of the Legacy RP community were kind enough to help out people that don't want to play on a Legacy server in some way.

They could have told everyone to bug off and start your own community for a different, non-legacy server, as this site has been about the Balmung/Besaid community since 1.0. Instead? They helped people out by holding voting and putting up a section of the forums for Gilgamesh to chat and hang out.

This is totally cliqueish and exclusive behavior. Totally.

Let's not ignore the fact that any real benefits from Legacy will be null and void within 3-4 weeks anyway, on average.

Sorry if I seem a little irritated about this. It's just incredibly rude, to me, to see people accuse (and yes, simply stating your fears is akin to accusing) this community of being full of cliques and hard to break into when the people on this site have been nothing but welcoming and helpful. They worked hard to create a great community throughout 1.0 and to see people so flippantly disregard that, while also using that community's website, is insulting. They deserve your thanks, not your arguments about not wanting to be a part of this community.

There's also a hefty dose of amusement that stems from Amaare trying to lead a community. Yes, some of us remember your actions in GW2 on Tarnished Coast. That's neither here nor there, though.

Forgive me I've always thought you were male.

Secondly do you know how many times we are constantly reminded about Reddit and 4chan being there? Constantly! Trust me I hear it all the time. ALL the time. When we voted on the non legacy server I actually voted on Leviathan. Yep sure did and what happenened? Gilgamesh won. So I made a promise to support them because honestly I like the idea of playing with all new people. I met plenty of people who are staying on Gilgamesh during the betas who want to roleplay but don't come to this site. People who are from Reddir who want to try out roleplaying for the first time. That made me happy I want to stay there to build that place now. People will be roleplaying there if we of the rpc were there or not.  So while I am grateful that the rpc has supported the vote that ended up with Gilgamesh being picked I am playing this game to support all roleplayers whether the are from the rpc or not.  Balmung: is good already. I want to help out Gilgamesh BECAUSE it needs the help because of its circumstances and all of us going there are prepared to do what we have to ensure its survival.

So when I read posts like yours for me its equivalent to taking the One Ring to Mount Doom to destroy it and being told I might die.

As if I didn't know that could happen before I left my hobbit hole.....

oh come on, that's very here AND there xD

DO TELL

It ultimately isn't, and I don't care to bring GW2 drama to this game. New start, yo!

Anyway, my biggest frustration is stemming from the fracturing of the roleplay community. We're a small group to begin with. Why make it smaller and harder to find RP that we all enjoy? We're all in this for the same hobby at the end of the day. It's disheartening to hear that things are being split even further between Balmung and Gilgamesh with people going all over.

Link to comment

It does suck when there is a split, but ultimately people gotta do what they think is best for themselves and if they believe that splitting from Balmung is a way to make them feel happy in a game, then I support them.

I also pray for them and their server choice, however..

Sorry but The only thing I lead there was my own guild and at one time being one of the leaders of the tavern guild I lead.

I've also stated that I'm not the leader of anything many times. So please do tell.

Again, it's neither here nor there. I have no wish to bring up any drama in public, as I do my best to avoid such a thing. The original little bit was a slightly immature slip up, but I do stand by it.

If you'd like to discuss it, PMs are an option! No need to derail the thread. :D

I agree wholeheartedly. It's just frustrating in it's own little nagging way. Ultimately it's a video game, and people should do what they've gotta do to be happy! I'm thrilled to call Balmung my home for FFXIV and I'm thoroughly looking forward to hanging out with people in game. 22 more days. Ugh.
