Coral Ferrinas Posted September 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2013 I was rping near Quarrymill, and we use FATE as our RP element. Of course, this attracts a lot of Non-RPers who are hunting for FATE. Unfortunately this happen: ---------------------------------------------------- Gilbert La'pine: Fight on! They'll not have the hive back on our watch! Gilbert La'pine: Another wave! Zephyrik Epocan: Everytime someone RPs, God kills a kitten and a puppy. (Coral Ferrinas) The gate is still standing sir! Tae Hyolyn: I was about to say that P'lha Tahl: *gasp* You don't like kittens and puppies? Zuzuzan Zozozan: Nothing wrong with RP. Don't be a jerk Tae Hyolyn: don't really care for them, no Phae'ra Nireath: I hate pets in general. ---------------------------------------------------- Really?? What do we do to deserved this? I don't think we have done anything to bother them at all. Link to comment
TheLastCandle Posted September 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 22, 2013 I've encountered this in every single online game I've played since my MUD days. Don't let 'em bring you down. Link to comment
Clover Posted September 22, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 22, 2013 You have to understand those poor non RPers. Finding random RP that's completely unrelated to you can really ruin your gameplay. Even your life. No reason, it just happens. 2 Link to comment
Hansem Wildsteel Posted September 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 22, 2013 I love when people RP in FATe and will step in if I see it. Have fun! Link to comment
rynshun Posted September 22, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 22, 2013 Really?? What do we do to deserved this? I don't think we have done anything to bother them at all. If you can hate it, they will hate on it. I'd either suggest partying up and keeping it in a party or ignore them. There will always be someone who hates something, wither big or small. /comfort. Dravus Posted September 22, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 22, 2013 I can't say I blame 'em. Role-players are surrounded by numerous misconceptions often cemented by role-players themselves. As a result, a lot of players just don't bother understanding exactly what role-play actually is. It's a shame and the vocal disapproval of role-play isn't needed but that's just how it is. It's best to not let these things get to you and shrug 'em off. Link to comment
Chisae Posted September 22, 2013 Share #7 Posted September 22, 2013 Feel sorry for the trolls, for they have no friends. When they see a bunch of people playing together and having fun, they want to try to make you as miserable as it is. The best thing you can do is starve it of attention and hope it dies a quick death. Link to comment
Asyria Posted September 22, 2013 Share #8 Posted September 22, 2013 Who gives a **** that people dislike us for RPing? People have been disliking other people for any reason you can imagine since the birth of mankind. Is this really worth discussing? o_o 2 Link to comment

FreelanceWizard Posted September 22, 2013 Share #11 Posted September 22, 2013 This is what /blacklist is for. Well, this and gil sellers, at any rate. Thankfully, griefers and trolls seem to be less common and less obsessive (on Balmung, at least) than they were on, say, WoW. You always have the option of switching to a private channel, but I'd recommend just ignoring them. You have the right to RP publicly just as they have the right to ignore you if they want -- and soon, to transfer off to another server to get away from those awful RPers and their having fun. Afghan Vet 2009 Posted September 22, 2013 Share #13 Posted September 22, 2013 Agreed. I would stil continue to RP publicly. As it will help advertise RP if other RPers are in the area. Also, to make it know that there is an RP presence towards non-RPers may help attract those who have never RPed to give it a try. That was the case for me. I will admit years ago I was one of those trolls who did not quite understand RPers or RP in general. And yes having RPers around while doing somethign was annoying. But, after a while of seeing it, I would eventually begin to become more curious about it and well here I am now. A rather heavy RPer on MMOs. So, I say continue to RP publicly no matter what, continue to ignore trolls, and not lash back out. Even though you may have some people mistreat you publicly, but you will also open up something new to people who have never tried it. Link to comment
Nebbs Posted September 22, 2013 Share #14 Posted September 22, 2013 It really is their problem to deal with. There I already wasted too much effort on them. Link to comment
Azureus Scipio Posted September 22, 2013 Share #15 Posted September 22, 2013 Some people are too dumb to realise that MMO is short for MMORPG which means Massive multiplayer online role playing game:D Link to comment
Coral Ferrinas Posted September 22, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted September 22, 2013 Thank you for the replies ^^ I wasn't hateful, we have continuing RP and ignore them. I just want to understand why they say something like that. Thank you so much ^^ Link to comment
BlessedSilence Posted September 22, 2013 Share #17 Posted September 22, 2013 Oh yeah I've had a person start spamming that one .. spell (it's like this big blue sphere) over where we were RPing over and over. I asked them nicely to stop as it was making my husband nauseated. The player said that he doesn't like RPers and why did we have to come to his server or some crap. I told him that he is more than free to block us so he doesn't need to see the RP, but we cannot block his spell graphics. He stopped after that /shrugs Normally I don't acknowledge trolls, but that was affecting someone OOCly. Link to comment
LandStander Posted September 22, 2013 Share #18 Posted September 22, 2013 Screw it. And don't put in party, keep it out in say that way other RPers know you are around and can join in ^^. Edit: Also, Blessed, the best course of action is to just ignore them. I don't even ask them to stop because then it acknowledges them. Completely ignoring them usually gets them to leave in 10 minutes or less. Responding to them in any sort of way just extends the time as they feel like they then have someones attention. When I RP I don't look at my screen anyway, I just stare at the chat box, haha. Link to comment

Miss Marigold Posted September 22, 2013 Share #20 Posted September 22, 2013 I find that fighting these things with a big dose of sugary kindness works best! Next time, try something like the following via a private tell: Aww, we're just trying to have fun here! Please ignore us! Thanks! <3 A lot of people will play poke-the-role-player if they just see you as a character, but if you make it clear that there's a nice person on the other end too they'll usually relent immediately. Even the truest jerks will rarely continue to harass you when they see you're all flowers and sunshine! It's just not fun to try and annoy someone that's unflappably full of joy! I actually have a 100% success rate with this approach! Give it a try! Link to comment

shdwsng Posted September 22, 2013 Share #22 Posted September 22, 2013 ...and Yini beat me to saying it. I will say that we were RPing last night and a couple of trolls wandered up. She brought out that approach? They left nicely, with no hurt feelings on either side. Just stay polite, ask nicely that you not be bothered, and if they persist in being a jerk remind them about Harassment being a bannable violation of the Terms of Service and that you're getting screenshots of this. That usually gets the ones who don't NEED to be banned off your back. Link to comment

Youre enjoying something, theyre discontent about something. and kudos to the player that understood ya'll interestingly, theyre RP'ing lightly, theyre playing a character in a fantasy world. /shrug Link to comment
Dravus Posted September 23, 2013 Share #24 Posted September 23, 2013 In fairness, the whole 'lol trolls r no lifers wif no friends lol' angle doesn't really hold much merit and is full of the same misconceptions and stereotyping that is sent the way of role-players. Just because someone acts like a bit of an idiot at times it doesn't mean they're without friends, a real life or are truly a terrible person. It's usually just a bit of fun to them. Tasteless fun, sure, but it's hardly the crime of the century. Heck, I know a lot of players who would be interested in role-play if not for the abundance of role-players with questionable character concepts, the obsession with ERP and various other factors such as the vast levels of drama that inevitably pop up in role-playing communities. I'd have to seriously scratch my head in confusion if someone honestly can't see why role-players have such a poor reputation given the sort of horror stories that can be told regarding the goings on beneath the surface. Magellan Posted September 23, 2013 Share #25 Posted September 23, 2013 As a new but adamant RPer, I can honestly say my experiences with RP have been about 50% good, 50% terrible. There are a lot of selfish and/or OOC dramatic members in our community who seem to harbor unfair grudges against new rpers or pvers. A lot of good RP gets ruined by rpers who don't play well with others, and only think for themselves. Therefore, our community gets an unfair rap (I'd like to point out there are a lot of selfish pvers too) A lot of RP hate that I see comes from rpers 'ruining' dungeons by being IC when running with straight pvers. I personally don't see the problem in this; the game is meant to be fun, and I just don't get intolerance towards other people's approaches to having fun, unless it seriously inhibits other people's fun. I think Yini has it right; a lot of misconception can be dispelled from kindness. Gently informing them that they rolled on an unofficial RP server, so that they'll see a lot of us, would be a good way to break the ice ^^ Link to comment
