Calming the Inner Beast- 2.1 patch warrior buffs

I'm not entirely sure that this goes here, and I'll most likely delete it if it doesn't, but how do all of my fellow Warriors out there plan to adjust their roleplaying style to accommodate the new changes? I look forward to many of them, but a couple of them slightly confuse me. Please excuse any spelling errors, as my phone is dumber than a stump.

Take Holmgang for example. I always though of it more of a call out to one-on-one battle. A kind of 'Stand and FIGHT!!!' warcry than a whole 'produce a chain out of nowhere and begin savagely beating the bound foeman' gambit. One of the few ways I think of using this 'chain-ge'(I know, puny, kill me later) Is to whip off that chain belt I've been wearing to keep my britches up and lasso a monster with it. Another way is to use that chain I've been using to keep my axe on my back when not in use and go all Belmont on the poor sap. Thechoice is yous, but I'm not so sure on how to pull it off.

Another is Defiance. I loved this skill, always imagining activating as just that-and act of defiance. Spitting in Bahamuts eye as he charges Mega Flare, showing you're not afraid to die and take him with you!!! I enjoy we get healed for more just by using it, but leads me to my greatest woe which the thread is named for.

Inner Beast-this was an INSANE ability and king of the self-heals. what with the self heal being taken down from 300% to 100%, it doesn't seem as fearsome, even if you claim to have glowy red demon eyes Like Curious Gorge and Fell Demon. An understandable nerf, but how can we Warriors mock Paladins for needing to rely on bookworms (you know it's true Scolars)

As a scholar I spam alot more heals on warriors than Paladins!

This. Also, Pallys can use CNJ skills to heal themselves AND use stoneskin. Unless I am remembering WAR wrong, no healing magics for you. Just whatever skills you get for self heals. Also, pallys get to BLOCK alot of dmg that warriors take square on the chin, and while yes that is a more "come at be bro" style of fighting it makes for alot more healer work to even out the dmg spikes of a WAR. (also of note, SCH storyline pretty much says explicitly SCH you where MADE to heal WAR go forth and play your role.)

I wouldn't give Cure and Stoneskin so much credit as skills on paladins. On a dungeon enviorement they are meaningless. The heal is not significant enough to make a difference unless you are fighting exactly one trash mob (and if you are, your healer should have your back anyway), it eats a lot of MP which is better used for Flash, and while you can recover MP by using that one combo move, your skills are better used on enmity generation. I haven't leveled White Mage on my Paladin enough to get Stoneskin, but really, paladins don't need it. In fact, I'll go ahead and say that the only reason a paladin would get conjurer up to 15 is because is is a Job requeriment.

Sure, Cure and Protect are nice for soloing or overworld questing/FATE parties, but they get absolutely nothing useful from conjurers as far as tanking goes.

With that said, I do like Warrior's changes. I should probably level mine up so I can pretend to know what people are talking about when discussing this changes!

Looking good.

But it better be damn good as it completely demoralized me when I realized how horribly behind Warrior is next to Paladin atm, to the point where I just lost interest in moving towards endgame.

Maybe this will help me get my motivation back...

That's silly. This current problem with War/Pld encouraged me as a warrior to get better to were I'm almost done with Coil.. Not trying to brag just saying that if you try you can for sure see content even if the class is gimped for whatever reason. Shouldn't let the mass hate by the gaming community discourage you from playing something you thought was/is fun.

Roleplaying wise I won't be changing anything about my character with the new changes in 2.1, not a fan of throwing game skills into my RP character that seems odd.. Ex: Defiance, foresight, vengence(Maybe.. This is FF after all and something like vengence could be pulled off.)

PvE wise.. loving all these buffs that me and my fellow seasoned and future Warriors will be getting, difficulty with the gameplay of the class will be interesting especially with Holmgang and how it should be executed since its a gimped hallowed ground.. And with all the damage reduction added to our skills for ourselves and enemies.. healers won't be complaining anymore. 8D

We'll see how much we can heal with 100% from Inner Beast but I don't see how this reduces the fearsomeness of this skill? The fact that we get a 20% damage reduction buff for 6 seconds is crazy! In my eyes its like.. The Warrior smacks the boss with Inner Beast, after words he lets forth a  powerful warcry which heals him (by 100%) and then all of a sudden.. his body hardens/stiffens or the wrath which he just blow on Inner beast coats itself on the warrior's armor/skin for the damage reduction.

I dunno, something random I just came up with right now.. It seems pretty badass how I'm picturing it in my head. -shrug-

Hmm, I think it's more like a barbarian's rage. He becomes so filled with resolve, anger, and inner strength that not only does he shrug off his existing wounds, but new ones are nothing to him. Pain is in ones mind, and they have the strength to ignore it.

what I came up with was just something off the top of my head but that is a much cooler way of showing how Inner Beast would work.

He's like, so, OP.

He looks like, one of those Coil MTs. pshh

They only want him in their group, because, he just got a total BUFF, 'kay?

I can't believe he's just so good, it's like, so unfair to PLDs, I mean - come on!

Look! He's just so...BUFFED!

I LIKE - BIG - BUFFS and I cannot lie,

You other tanks can't deny

That when a tank walks in with tons of HP

and mitigation from IB you get -

FUN, wanna WAR in your party

because you notice he's hearty

Deep in coil he's tankin'

Caduceus won't be spankin'

Ohh WAR-guy, I wanna group with you,

WAR in coil no longer taboo.

My PLD friends tried to warn me,

but that HP you got makes me-me-me say YATZEE!

Ooh, Thrill of Battle,

Those jelly PLDs will prattle

Well, friend me, friend me,

You got crazy enmity

I see PLDs slashin'

tell hell with shield bashin'!

Your tough, buff,

PLD are gonna get snuffed!

I'm tired of swords and shields,

seeing boring blocks and low heals!

Ask the average healer, "Which tank's got the floor?" -

"They gotta be a WAR"

I LIKE BIG BUFFS

Was I the only one who started out reading this to the tune of 'part of your world' and then received the best surprise ever?

I'm personally very happy with the buffs, but a little confused why they added in extra enmity gain?  I've never had a problem keeping hate, even with subpar gear compared to relic users until they went full blown, and that's the gears fault.  I don't know Paladin quite as well but with the extra damage reduction it helps put them on equal grounds, but now with enmity gain does it tilt in favor of Warriors now?  And it'll keep going back and forth with each patch...I hope not.

Link to comment

The extra enmity is to help improve Warrior TP management (alongside the the changes to the Storm skills) and allow Warriors to work the Storm skills into their rotation without having to worry about dropping aggro so much.

Since Warriors have no way of regaining TP other than auto attack tics, it was a necessary change to prevent us from running out of TP loooong before a Paladin would do the same.

I don't know why Defiance for Warriors gained a increased in enmity, seems a bit much to add more but maybe they saw it fit because of 2.1? Maybe we were at a disadvantage with Paladins with their Shield Oath+Mana Pool (Meaning they could flash a lot more then a Warrior can.)

I see Over Power and Steel Cyclone for sure needing enmity generating increased. SC currently has none but our base damage.

Over Power has enmity bonus to it.. Just from what I've seen it really isn't that great in dungeon/raid run situations where there will be a lot of AoE damage going out.. OP at the moment doesn't do a very good job with mobs unless we use a fair amount of it.. Which would result in being TP Starved which is bad.

My view on it and why Yoshi bumped/added the enmity up on these two skills, it'll help reserve our Tactical Points... Defiance on the other hand? -shrug- No idea why he buffed the enmity.

Edit: Also! Don't see why they added a chain grip to Holmgang.. Its a gimped hallowed ground! >_< Should have just made that chain grip move its own skill.. I only see it being usefully if a boss is on the lose and you can grab it and stick to you.. Giving your raid time to regroup itself.

The enmity increase on Defiance and increased enmity elsewhere is because Warriors now will be throwing out non-emnity combos A LOT more often. Now that we have a good reason to use Storm's Path to apply a damage debuff to enemies. This means Warriors will now be throwing out a Storm's Path combo and a Storm's Eye combo often, meaning less Butcher's Block combos. This has been mentioned earlier in this thread as well.

Additionally now that they're receiving 20% more healing that's making the Healer's spells create more enmity as well.

I keep disregarding the 5% healing increase we're getting because I'm forgetful but yes that is valid enough reason to increase enmity on defiance(If the healer out gears the warrior). I don't can't really see how myself from experience tanking BUT I'm not a dev and my opinions are mute compared to them. :D

Rotations will be based on the SP's duration.. but Butcher's Block combos generate enough enmity that this shouldn't be a problem eitherway, especially with the Defiance buff, this doesn't apply to how group pulling should be handled as thats a whole different rotation. It really falls into how long SP's duration is on mobs.

In regards to Defiance, here's the outlook from a white mage.

Existing Defiance is set up that I have to work harder to heal your hp than I do a paladin. Each Wrath stack you put on makes me work less, ultimately at a full stack I am now working AS hard as I would when healing a PLD. If you use your stack for whatever reason, I now have to work harder to heal your added HP.

The new defiance makes it so that the moment you gain the extra HP, you gain the added Healing, so the moment you turn on defiance, healing you is equally as intensive (from an HP to HP standpoint) as healing a PLD.

The change isn't so much for you, it's more for me! I am no longer paying a cost for your use of Wrath, which reduces the usefulness of "sitting on wrath stacks" and incentivizes actually using abilities that utilize them.

As for Inner Beast, The existing inner beast makes you and your healers step on each others toes. If you take a big hit, I'm loading a big heal, if you load a big heal as well (inner beast), chances are between the two of them overhealing is going to happen. By changing it into a % dmg reduction it effectively makes it so that my actions no longer nullify your actions and vice versa.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the changes.

^^ I never said I had a problem with making it a passive buff. I completely agree with what you say. I personally didn't see the need to increase enmity or the 5% increase healing in defiance at the time based on personal experience but no one plays like I do or like anyone else so experiences differ. I'm just happy that I won't be a pain to my healers anymore and feel bad since they're making warriors a proper tank.. Now.. I will enjoy watching the increase of WAR pop and giggle at the silly stuff I'll be expecting on the tank forums.
