Coatleque Posted May 29, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 29, 2014 Salutations and hello. I'm fairly new to FF XIV, but jumped right into the RP segment. I have a diverse RPG background from MUD to NWN 1&2 to WoW. I've already setup a bio page for Coatleque for anyone interested. She's kind of the shy type, so if you see her around and want to engage feel free! I consider myself to be mostly IC in-game unless I'm really in the middle of something like a quest or cutscene. I look forward to meeting more personalities in-game! Warning: RP sort of comes naturally to me, so I apologize if I type or react too fast for some. I also consider all whispers/tells to be OOC by default unless otherwise specified. Call me old-fashioned. Link to comment

Coatleque Posted May 30, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted May 30, 2014 Interesting, a fellow MUDder/NWNer. Well met indeed. ^^ Yeah, I started on a MUD called Avatar back in 99, and played NWN for its entire life-cycle RPing on a LotR realm called RoME. Then I got into PVE with WoW. Got bored quickly, and I'm pining for the good ole days of RP again! Link to comment

I want to RP with you soon, in part because I have this theory about the RP styles of those of us who started out on MUDs and want to see if it holds true. I'll tell you about it after. *grin* I've been playing the same MUD since about 1995, called GemStone IV (previously III). I've been inactive since ARR launched, but I imagine I'll come back to it at some point because I usually do. On NWN, I played the longest on Myth Drannor, but I also spent a lot of time on Tales of the Silver Marches, Krynn Haven (Dragonlance), and Cormyr & The Dalelands. Fond memories of each. I hope you're having fun here! Link to comment

I hope you get all the rp you desire. :3 Link to comment
Jancis Posted May 30, 2014 Share #11 Posted May 30, 2014 CC! I think it's kind of an oversight to not mention the Achaea MUD because the immersion and the full-time role play that game demanded really showed how someone could stay in character. That was the one I fell in love with for years, Avatar was a fun hack-n-slash though. I heard of GemStone before. It had a subscription, right? At the time I couldn't do more than donate time-to-time so that wasn't an option for me. Yay for people who even know the term MUD! It's really fun to get caught "off guard" with role play and go with it instead of saying "LOL sorry my character isn't here." and CC is really good at that. Link to comment

It did, and still does, unfortunately with a monthly price on par with most MMO subscriptions. More than my FFXIV sub, which is a bit ludicrous - but RP is encouraged and to some extent enforced, and most people generally RP all actions, whether they're sitting around picking locked treasure boxes for folks or just chatting in one of the towns' central square.
