Live Letter info

Recommended Posts

So I watched the live letter. Got some nice screenies. Now I can share what we learned with you all!

First question asked is if they'd ever add a hug emote. Yoshi pretty much said they want a hug and slap emote, they aren't going to worry about the size of the target, only the animations, and they are guaranteed to come in at some point.

Mentioned that 2.3 will bring in a desythesis system for crafters and gatherers, not much about it.

We will eventually be able to visit carteneau as a pvp area apparently

Brutal Mode coil of bahamut. They are bringing in bosses with stats that were nerfed down because they were too hard, and in fact, they aren't even sure they could beat these bosses. But if players do beat them, they get a spiffy new title, no word on what the title is.

Now here's the part you all will love, and these images will do the explaining:

Rogue Class in 2.4. It's job will be the Ninja! Details about these classes:

The rogue will have a variety of poisons that produce different effects. Rogue and ninja's also move by default, faster than all the other classes across the land, and take less falling damage.

The Ninja will incorporate the skills of the rogue, and add in ninjutsu. How this works is, you have to do certain moves in certain orders to light up a ninjutsu from the combo. Depending on what skills you use, you will get to use a completely different ninjutsu.

This makes the job sound a lot like the warden class from lord of the rings online, where you use certain skills in certain order, and you get a combo finisher that either healed, caused threat, or did massive damage, or put a dot/debuff onto an enemy target.

However Ninja's and Rogues will be DPS only. New tanks and healers will come in the expansion later down the road.

Private rooms are coming in 2.3. Personal housing some time between 2.38 and 2.4.

They made the 2.3 poster with shiva, because Ramuh wasn't sexy enough lol. But in seriousness, yoshi added that we will get hints of her in 2.3, and as the story progresses, we will get to face her later down the road.

Solo dungeons will be coming soon! No word when.

Airship labs still planned, in fact yoshi showed off a concept art of it!

There was mention of activities/quests FC's can do, that will be good for both small and large FC's.

Marriage system coming in 2.4, couple get special mounts each.

That was about it.

It's... it's not Thief, but... but I want it...

-grabby hand motions-

Private rooms and marriage system ain't bad either... -blushes-

Actually it kinda is. Yoshi gave some lore background on the rogue. Supposedly they used to be thieves, but they've since changed their ways. And when he thought of thieves he thought of people stealing and burgling, and that sort of stuff. So they opted for a more neutral name.

Oh I forgot to mention, the ninja will also be a stealther too.

Dual Shockers did their own review, and include the video of the rogue and ninja in action:

...political correctness strikes again. :frustrated:

There goes that "Steal Gil" flavor. :(

Sounds like XIV's first aggro dump. SOUNDS LIKE XIV'S FIRST AGGRO DUMP.

Nothing on the overworld is threatening or dangerous enough to justify stealth, and it's going to be broken one way or the other as far as PvP is concerned...so I'm hoping for an aggro dump.

EDIT: Watching now.

Pretty pumped for all the incoming content. Rogue/Ninja looks awesome.

Also, I know a LOT of people who were extremely happy to hear SE did the right thing with the marriage system. I wasn't expecting them to go that route, and I was pretty damn impressed.

Oh, hush, man! C'kayah steals crap all the time, despite being a conjurer!

This'll bring the first new class I'll be excited to get to 50 :D

Poison use! *swoons*

From what I saw of the video, I think it's less political correctness (since FFXI had a Thief class) and more like they couldn't figure out why in the world a city would actually want to have a Thieves Guild around that robs and steals from the local populace.

Sure, it could simply be an illegal guild that always manages to evade the local law enforcement folks, but at best it makes the Admiral look kinda shady - as though she's totally fine bumping elbows with a thieves' guild harming her citizens, or at worst she looks incompetent for doing much to root them out.

Thieves guild are the pre-Mafia organized crime organizations.  They both organize and control the activity of thieves (through intimidation, control of fences, and violence) while using their position of power to their advantage in dealing with legitimate society (deals with guards, bribery of officials, protection rackets, etc.)  They undoubtedly do exist, especially in Ul'dah, and could have been interestingly tapped into for game purposes. I only question whether or not one may exist in Limsa, because in Limsa the government itself is essentially an expanded organized crime enterprise and may have muscled out their competition - this may also play into the storyline, like pirates-gone-good, so have the thieves.  But... they don't really seem to want go anywhere near villainous PCs anyway... :)

Finally a second class I may want to level!

Dual Shockers has released their run down of today's live letter:

http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/06/12/final-fantasy-xiv-letter-from-the-producer-live-xv-recap-free-weekend-coming-and-more/

Here’s a recap of his answers:

Frontline has been designed to ease people into PvP, so it’ll be easy to approach even if you never played the Wolves’ Den.

While it’s not final, Frontline should involve 24 vs 24 vs 24 players.

Battles will last 30 minutes.

You can change your job whenever you like as long as you’re within an outpost.

Rewards will be the same as Wolves’ Den.

Frontline will also have monsters, not just players.

The cochobo raising system and the butty chocobo system will worth together as one.

Personal rooms will be no different whatever the size of your free company house is.

The items placed in personal rooms won’t count towards the total of the house. The final number hasn’t been decided yet.

The only kind of furniture you won’t be able to use in the personal room is what is designed for the courtyard.

Private rooms will be slightly bigger than the first floor of a small house.

Cost of private rooms is still TBD, but should be around 300,000 gil.

You’ll be able to craft in your personal room.

The new levels of the Crystal Tower will be pretty much as difficult as the old ones, designed to be enjoyable.

There will be a loot restriction once a week in the new levels.

The new levels will drop only armor.

Gilgamesh won’t come back in the Hildribrand quest.

Yugiri’s face won’t be revealed in patch 2.3.

Yugiri’s fighting style is the same as rogue and ninja.

An artbook/lore book is being planned.

Changes to how attribute points are allocate are being discussed.

New grand company ranks are being planned for future updates.

You’ll be able to train chocobos by installing a stable in your company garden.

Chocobo raising will include a limit break that will allow you to get past level 10 and acquire all the chocobo skills.

Chocobo raising will be accessible only to those that have a free company house. After a while a feature will be added, allowing to access part of it from the chocobo porters.

You can raise only a single chocobo (your buddy chocobo), In the future when Gold Saucer and Chocobo Racing (he actually said only part of the names to tease, but what he meant was obvious) will be added, you’ll be able to raise more chocobos.

In 2.35 you’ll be able to change the color of your buddy chocobo feathers to any of the dyes available in the game.

The Ixal beast tribe daily quests will be added in 2.35.

Patch 2.3 will come on July 8th.

A free login weekend will follow on July 12th.

the “Eorzea Collection” catalogue will be released, including all the pieces of equipment and furniture.

Loved the info mentioned here, especially excited to use this new found motivation to help me find more time for games ive been lacking on recently and here to prep for 2.3 and more importantly Rogue/Ninja . 2 of my favorite styles outside of a good ol hand2hand and sword/greatsword wielding style.

Don't have the greatsword yet so I'll gladly settle on these new additions very happily.

Honestly i'm a bit bummed on a few things mentioned in the recent updates, personal housing rooms within free companies, and the eventual chocobo breeding using a stable on Free Company property. In all honesty tho its not an issue and my own fault for not belonging to a Free Company lol. But It means one step closer to our own homes, and added motivation to get to work on prepping lol.

Great news all around tho
