people summoning Voidsent

The general public probably ignores ahriman or voidsent in public, even if (the universal) you have them out ICly, simply because that's ridiculous and you'd be arrested and/or executed for summoning demons inside of safe areas. You know, it's sort of a bad idea to bring man-eating monsters inside city walls, not to mention consorting with them.

If people are ignoring it, it's because they're not wanting to make an OOC fight break out by informing you how pants-on-head it is that someone thinks it's cool to just float around on a demon.

Pretty much my stance on ahriman and voidsent in public (summonings, etc). Minions or mounts. I just deflect around mentioning it or ignore its presence all together.

I haven't seen the Ahriman as much. Does Kell look cool riding it on my WAR glamour? Yep.

Would I actually have that IC? Hellllll naaaaaaw. If I'm ridin' IC I'm riding a yellow birdie.

I will say, the one thing that annoys me about voidsent use and characters is the ooc (I must stress this, OOC) attitude that such things can be messed with and there will be zero negative effects for doing so. Voidsent are not your friends. They are not your buddies.

This... Exactly this.

It's like when Warlocks in WoW are "best buddies" with their demonic minions.

NO! They are DEMONS! You ENSLAVED THEM! They want you DEAD if you didn't have the power to control them! That's what they do!!!

It's exactly the same with Voidsent!

It is possible to befriend your demons, it's just very unlikely that it will ever happen. There's two sides to it, with that. One being that you as a player might be in that sort of position- would mean that a lot of OTHER things would need to take place and if it were 'easy' to do. Everyone would do it.

Perhaps I'm more open minded with lore, but if reasoned well enough and if all parties are respectful of each other, we can continue to play along.

I myself, am not a fan of either extreme. Loremongers and outright Lorebreakers, whatever you wish to call it. I think a healthy balance is fun and it's about enjoying ourselves. So far, I'm finding this community to be the most divided on this fact. I hope everyone can come to a medium, sooner than later.

Uhm....if i'm not mistaken we are talking about 3 things, :ahriman: mount, beady eye minion and wind-up succubus minion right?

In that case the succubus is just a mere clockwork toy, not a voidsent, so its use may be distasteful or student but not accounting to a real Voidsent mingling, while for the other two we talk about real Voidsents, but, at least imho, when u battle with primals and their forces, people calling forth such lesser grade voidsents really become something negligible and funny in a certain way.

A:"Oh look, imma summon a voidsent in the city!"

B:"oh yeah? :dodgy:"

Even Thaumaturgist guild don't summon Voidsents in Ul'dah. And that's saying something.

Honestly, people should really use a common sense that voidsents inside any cities or town, the guards will react to it and try to attack you. "Oh it's okay. I am researching on it." "Oh it's okay. I am friends with it. It likes people of Eorzea" does not give justified reasons to say that other people or local citizens to  be okay with a creature from dark being which terrorized many people long while before.

If anyone's not aware, these local citizens of Eorzea panic on axe beak bird invasions, or even Beast tribe invasions. What makes you think they'll be okay with voidsents? They won't.

Just because they are NPCs and won't bother you doesn't mean anyone should take advantage of that and ICly bring Ahrimans into the city/town at any cost.

To be honest, I tried this an experiment to see what would happen:  I had my character, the type of guy who does fool around with the void and voidsent and other crazy things, walk into a meeting with an imp summoned and no one said anything--not even when I had him interact with it, such as absently smacking it, shooing it away, etc.  I eventually had him dismiss it 'cause I was like....I give up and went on with the RP.  My character is not evil and nor has he made some deal with a devil, etc.  He does experiment on this kind of stuff though.  But yeah, no one cared and I think it's because not many people do care about this kind of stuff or think about it when they RP.

....I was sad because I was totally prepared for some kind of IC argument with sassy comments and mean words flung around, etc. But that didn't happen sooooo >>

Hm. I wouldn't say it's because people were interested, but probably more that they weren't interested in picking a fight. As mentioned, there's a high risk of things getting ugly OOC vis a vis lore and "proper" RP philosophy with this stuff. I know personally speaking that if you and I were RPing and you were treating the pet as being an actual summoned imp, I'd just go with it for the duration of the RP and then pretend it never happened in the future.

I know that sounds petty, but most folks who are "breaking" lore aren't open to discussing that sort of thing in the middle of RP. That, and since there's no REAL authority in game, there'd be no end goal or solution. No one can actually call the cops/flames/blades on a person summoning demons in the middle of the Quicksand, but that'd likely just get the "yep, griefing" reaction and be ignored. Most people don't want to bog down their RP with arguments about what is and isn't allowed.

Yep.

Basically two schools of thought in RP. Make your character a constituent of the world, with all its laws and customs, or bend the world to you.

It's not that cut-and-dry, I think. There's certainly overlap and different philosophies that make things acceptable/unacceptable/maybe-acceptable-sometimes. Summoning Voidsent? It happens in-game. It's rare, and the instances where it happens usually end in tragedy and/or dramatics, but it is noted as happening.

There's nothing to say that a powerful enough conjutaurge wouldn't be able to coax something through the abyss. The logical end to that "maybe" is that someone would be powerful enough to summon and enslave demons on a large scale. That's probably not as common; I'd liken it to playing a necromancer. Sure, you can do it. If it comes out you're doing it, you'd probably be arrested/executed on sight, because demons EAT people and no one's going to go "Oh, sure, Stan the Summoner's got it, everything's fine."

Hell, the very beginning of 1.0 had a trained Goobbue going insane after something goes wrong. People die. It kicks off... Basically everything that made a certain Scion who they are today. It's not that far off to think the common people aren't going to be fine with folks known to summon corrupting influential demons in their free time.

...not everyone playing in those spaces are trying to bend the world to them, though. Sometimes folks just want to tell a different story. There's enough double secret Garlean agents running around that someone who dabbles in demons isn't too strange.

Anyone claiming to do that in city walls is still dumb, though.

Did the people in question actually know anything about voidsent in lore? I know that some people don't bother acknowledging these things because they don't want to pick fights, but the other half of the time, no one says anything because they just aren't even aware.
