Favorite alcoholic beverages?

Recommended Posts

Beer: My favorite. My go-to this time of year is a good porter or stout. I love Old Rasputin imperial Russian stout best. Currently enjoying Stone's "Double Bastard," always a treat. I've also been known to slum it with a few PBR's.

Wine: I'm not big on wine, but wouldn't turn down a good red.

Whiskey: I love both bourbon and Scotch. For bourbon, my favorites are Bulleit and Eagle Rare. For Scotch, the peatier the better, in my book. I almost always have Laphroaig on hand, and for blended I like the Black Grouse.

So many good things @.@ I want to try them all! *grabby hands*

Tonight I went out and had a ...Tittos Chocolate Balls? It was a martini with Kahlua, chocolate syrup and crush ice. Shaken and rather frothy. Alcohol didnt start hitting me until after we left the restaurant.

I have little-to-no tolerance for alcohol -- a quarter-glass of wine is enough to get me drunk -- so I typically avoid drinking so I don't make a fool out of myself. What I have tried and liked:

-- Raspberry wine

-- Blueberry wine

-- Lavender wine

-- Honey and rose wine

-- Apple wine

-- Strawberry daiquiris

As Eva is played by a married couple, our individual tastes differ (but only a little bit).  On one thing we can totally agree, this is awesome:

Also there is much love of Irish Car Bombs (and each individual component of such) - and many fun stories surrounding the drinking of these at bars with friends.  Stories which for all intents and purposes should have been blacked out even!  We enjoy ICB's now in much better moderation.

Beers: Pumpkin Ales (<3 Pumking) especially in the autumn, and pretty much everything Weyerbacher puts out (Blithering Idiot is amazeballs!), and more conventionally we like Killians, Wild Blue, and Miller Lite (when we're drinkin on the cheap).  Someone above mentioned Steel Reserve, and once in awhile we'll split a 40oz of this (or sometimes two), for nostalgia reasons (too long of a story to accompany this post).

Wines: Cabernets and Sparkling Moscatos and Zinfandel.  Also most champagnes (even the really dry ones!)

Stronger: ICB's of course!  Scotch (we were recently introduced to Aberlour and love it), Rum (one of us likes light rum and hates spiced rum, and the other is vice versa).  Fireball shots have been very popular lately among our social circle, and Washington Apple shots.

I also don't think I've had a beer from Southern Tier brewery that I didn't like.  Favorites are Choklat, Big Red, and Iniquity.  (fun fact: the taste of Iniquity to this day reminds me of FFXI Dynamis because I used to drink a bottle during each run twice a week).

Friends of ours are always introducing us to new beers and once a year we go to a brew fest, and usually once or twice a year we have friends over and everyone brings something new and different and we all just kind of have a beer sampling party and watch movies and stuff.  It's always a lot of fun and we sometimes find some new favorites!!  This was the latest winner:  http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/664/5488/ (it was awesome).

Beer is my least favorite... but I keep trying different ones in hopes I'll find something I really like. I'm sure I will one day.

I mostly love highballs, mojitos being my absolute favorite. My favorite girly drink is probably a pina colada. Basically... give me anything with rum plus some sort of fruit juice, and I'll drink the hell out of it, haha. For wines, I lean towards whites like Moscato and Pinot Gris. My favorite red is probably a tie between Shiraz and Pinot Noir. And if I'm the mood for something creamy, you can never go wrong with Kahlua.

If I were to recommend anything to anyone, if you're the type of person who likes sweet drinks but you aren't fond of whiskey's signature bite? Try a maple or caramel whiskey. They tend to have a little less "edge" to them, I find.

While I'm offering recommendations, I also like late harvest muscats. A surprisingly good one of those is Quady Essentia. It's a sweet muscat from California that's got a really fruity flavor.

I've got a bottle of that sitting downstairs in my kitchen right now! It makes a super yummy spritzer.

I used to drink a lot of beer, but I've mostly given it up in an attempt to cut back on carbs. I'm pretty much a cocktail man, these days:

  • Sea Breeze (my go-to cocktail)
  • Moscow Mule
  • Rye Old Fashioned
  • Whiskey Sour (with rye - God, I love rye!)
  • Any good whiskey and water, or whiskey and soda
  • Grog, when I'm sailing (rum and lime juice)
  • Tequila sunrise
  • Mai Tai (if I'm in Hawai'i)
  • Gin and tonics, if the gin is good
  • Margarita (on the rocks, of course - none of that frozen crap!)
  • Any number of champagne cocktails (C. cocktail, mimosa, etc)

And the list goes on and on and on...

I also relish a nice watered red wine (strong red wine with water or soda water, Argentine-style), muscats, sweet ports, and ice wine.

Beer: I'm a big beer/ale person but will stay just to my go-tos here

Founders. Hands down my favorite brewery - Their Rubaeus is pretty much their crown jewel though, imo. I'm a big fan of their All-Day IPA and Porter as well.

Great Lakes - Burning River

Southern Tier - Pumking

Fat Heads - Bumbleberry (Best with fresh blueberries to accompany)

Beer Cocktail:

Black & Gold. Around me that means Guinness & Great Lakes Dortmunder.

Mead:

B. Nektar Meadery - Necromangocon

Cider:

Hrmm... Tough choice. Gotta go with Original Sin though, I think.

Cocktails:

Bloody Mary. Mmm... <3

White Russian

Mimosa

Margarita

Strawberry Daiquiri

Mint Julip

Wines:

I tend to like them sweet. Love a good Catawba

Scotch:

Haven't had much recently, so nothing's coming to mind. Should prolly change that

Other:

Baileys

Jagermeister - Mostly for sentimental reasons. I don't particularly like how it tastes, lol
