"The Song of Us All" - Open Invitation to Everyone

Recommended Posts

"Ladies and gentlemen, it is my most delightful pleasure to be before you this evening, and glance upon your smiling... frowning... leering... ah, madam, please put those away...at least until later... faces tonight. It isn't every sun that I'm allowed to perform here at the Quicksand, for the list of impending acts and ambitious players is always long, and our dearest lady of the house, yes, give Momodi your applause..."

*waits for clapping to fall off before continuing*

"Momodi is discerning in her selection of entertainments, and she has little real need to let a vagabond like myself appear before you, but patience, persistence, and unwavering charm can do wonders upon her, and when I develop these gifts, I might be before you much more often.

"For such an ausipicious and rare occasion, then, I must needs offer you something worth your time and attention, and what could I give you more interesting than your own stories? A bard sees and hears many things, and there are faces out there tonight whose exploits have become near-legends in and out of Ul'dah, so why should we not sing tribute to each and everyone of you? You know your own lives and tales, so please sing and share them with us!"

He strums a single chord.

"Just remember the chorus as we go, keep the tune as best you can, and be sure to apologize, at least, if you spill your mead on your neighbor as you lift it in salute."

----------------------------------------------------------------

["The Song of Us All" is meant to be your tribute to yourselves! Anyone who would have any reason to be in Ul'dah, or is known to someone there, or simply has too good of a tale to pass up, is invited/asked/pleaded with/implored to add your verses to the song. Tell us about your character, or share a recent tale/exploit/adventure/plot twist from your own RP, to be commemorated in one song for us all. One Song to Find Them. One Song to bring them all... ah, sorry, wrong setting. Consider this an RPC compilation request.

Da Procedures!

Please post your verses in either AABB rhyme scheme (couplets, as in the opening verses below) or ABAB Rhyme scheme. For reference: Quatrains .

Present two to four original verses per entry. Yes, multiple entries are quite fine as the thread goes, but give your neighbors a chance to chime in, in between.

Please End your post with the Chorus as done in the opening below, so that the next contributor has a clean slate:

Chorus

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild.]

-------------------------------------------------------------

"It's said that we all have a story to tell,

Be it one of romance or of personal hell.

There's a place called The Quicksand where tales congregate,

And we drink 'til the hour is late.

The song that I sing you tonight is not mine,

But belongs to us all, so please refill my wine.

Sing with me the ballads of the lives of your peers;

Raise your flagons for everyone here

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild."

"My name is Nathan, I'm a man of the strings

And I've done both wondrous and terrible things

Grew up in the Shroud, now the last of my kin

And a 'venturing bard, spreading solace and sin

I spend most of my nights making music and fun

And I'm up every morn to chase after the sun

Might have broken a few hearts left back in my wake

Oschon knows what I've squandered for liberty's sake

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild."

I am a lover of ballads and songs

I hear them and sing them all the nights long

I come to the tavern, and what lies in store

But a tune that I’ve heard so often before?

Its sound is familiar, it’s stuck in my head

Swashbuckling adventures of courage and dread

Great ships prowling oceans, their masts at full sail

Blown about as if caught in a great storm of ale

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild.

You must be a pirate, for this rhyme you have stole

From nautical minstrels, in part or in whole

Don’t try to deny it; your breath you will waste

Though I must commend you for excellent taste

So I’ll keep my mouth shut and I’ll join in your tune

(For plagiarized verses won’t go away soon)

I grab my lass Nancy and sit at a bench

For in all of this tavern there’s no finer wench

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild.

"Well they call me L'poppi, please all gather 'round,

So I can hear all your secrets and the talk of the town!

I deal in shadows, in bribes and in plans,

In ill-gotten gold found in ill-gotten hands!

Sabotage is my game and I play it quite well,

As some of you folks might be able to tell!

Yes, some of you here, the stories I could say!

We'd be here for ages, far more then a day!

But fear not! I'm not up here to spill any beans,

At least not right now, if you get what I mean.

After all, I've still got a business to run.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think my verse is done!

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild."

From tither to yon and then back 'round again.

No four walls of mine own, the road my only friend.

Don't come to me sorrow'd or full of remorse

As I would do naught to stray from my life's course.

A vagrant, a sellsword, marauder and merc.

I've been called these things trying to pin down my worth.

But in the warm glow of a tavern's kind walls

After three cups in, I know where their eyes fall.

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild

"With a passion for all, she holds out her hands

Only to be dealt a blade with dangerous plans

No courage, no strength, will keep her from running

Though she'd be pressed to admit it, with all of her cunning!

I am she, the coward, the betrayer

Soon to be known as the blasphemous slayer

Let us defy their words with our might!

To keep on, to carry on, to reach towards the light

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild."

"Stoic and solemn, I 'spose they've got charm.

But the true mark of a knight is their righteous sword arm!

Should ever you find yourself alone in a fight,

Just look for the armor, call out for a knight!

We protect and we serve and we strive to help all,

From lala, to roe'g'dyn, from big down to small.

Just don't mistake kindness for blindness or weakness,

Clear minds and stout hearts might be bundled in meekness.

But tonight's not for scaring or catching the wrong,

so let's raise up our glasses and share drink and share song,

But in spite of my absence and the spell that I sit,

There's my initials in that pillar, and don't you ever forget it!

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's Adventurer's Guild."

"Long have I traveled, and long have I sought

A solace inside me, that no man has wrought.

I thought I'd find peace, on these streets paved in gold

Instead I found sorrows, more than has been told.

Garleans and Eorzeans, both foes and friends

Came into our doors, seeking means to their ends

Calamity struck, and then I was gone

Five years I was missing, five years too long. (author's note, yes, it's slant rhyme. Sue me)

The land had changed much, by the time I returned,

The land and the people, Upside-down, my world turned

But more friends I found, and a new place I made

Until the day I was captured, then the happiness fades.

But now I am back, once again on my own

Finding a footing, finding it all alone.

I hope that my story, will continue to thrive

And until it all ends, thank the Twelve I'm alive!

So...

Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows!

Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow!

For many a tankard and story have spilled

At Momodi's (quite lovely~) Adventurer's Guild."
