Enzo Posted January 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2015 What excuse will you players be making for your characters as to be able to go to these places? Will you even go to them IC? What do you think their importance will be for RP? and what do you think the rarity of flying mounts would be in Eorzea? Obviously we don't see them much now. They might possibly become more common if heavensward reveals a lore reason like increased trade with eorzea and the technological advancement that allows richer folks to get single person airships. But if they don't? I wonder what our explanations will have to be to attain them :3 Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted January 27, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2015 Free company airships. Or worst-case, Garlean connections. Link to comment
Enla Posted January 27, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2015 Free company airships. Or worst-case, Garlean connections. Pretty much this. Or, if I can't justify it for any reason but like the look of the area I'll use it as a substitute for some place on the actual continent. As without flying chocobo's saturating the in game economy I can't see Cylin as she is being important enough or wealthy enough to book passage to one without the aid of someone else. Link to comment
Zyrusticae Posted January 28, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2015 I won't touch them ICly. I mean, I could, because T'rahnu has ways to get her hands on a black chocobo and all that, but I don't really see any compelling reason for her to go that far. That could change when the expansion actually hits, however. Link to comment
Dravus Posted January 28, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 28, 2015 I don't generally bend over backwards to force my character into going to cool areas just because they're cool areas. If a reasonable opportunity presents itself then I'll embrace it - if not, then my character isn't going to be a tourist running around what is likely to be a very dangerous area. I like to stay within the realm of plausibility. Link to comment
Aduu Avagnar Posted January 28, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2015 rare material only found in those areas = reason for Nako to go there. or at least send a team to recover some. same if there are any ruins etc. Link to comment
Jana Posted January 28, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 28, 2015 Most RPers who aren't playing an adventuring type won't bother, and those who do like myself have our reason right there. Link to comment
TheLastCandle Posted January 28, 2015 Share #8 Posted January 28, 2015 Plenty of reasons. A chance encounter with a black chocobo, the aforementioned airships (highly relevant to my budding engineer Lalafell), adventurers seizing every/any opportunity for adventure, the lulz - reasons abound. And it'll be fun. That's the best reason of all. Link to comment

Honestly it's very likely you won't be able to jump off the floating islands anymore than you can jump off the "edge of the world" areas they have in many of the zones that creates the barriers around each zone. Delilah Scythewood Posted January 29, 2015 Share #13 Posted January 29, 2015 The Free Wing Society will be one of the first FCs ICly going out in the new world for the purpose of exploring the area to give first hand information back to other adventurers and free companies to use for later. Better then maps or trying to talk to the locals. When 3.0 drops I'll be making a thing on the Lantern about it. Floating masses will definitely be on there since Yoshi P said there's going to be some cool shit up there anyways like treasure chests and rare creatures. Link to comment

Aww now that I think about it that is probably true But I mean flying mounts allow you to get to places you could not normally get to, so it may lift the restrictions at that zone to some extent :3 What happens if you dismount in the middle of the air over one of the gaps? Havoc Snow Posted January 29, 2015 Share #15 Posted January 29, 2015 Also like most have said, I plan on using an airship to get out their. Ashren has been working on constructing his own since 2.4 ICly, working with other groups and trying to get the components or the revenue to help fund the construction. We've sort of been drawing out the process with speed bumps in the construction and design until we know for sure when we'll be getting the personal airships, but basically as soon as they are available Ashren will be taking to the skies to explore the new world. Probably won't be able to dismount in the air, it'll likely give you an error message and only be allowed to dismount while your mount is on the ground. Link to comment
