Several Interviews stemming from PAX

I've been lucky enough to meet a large group of people who, while we expect competency, we can still laugh and have shits and giggles over some minor mistakes depending on content. I might be able to put you in contact with my EU friends and see if they know anyone or if I can somehow put you in one of the more casual PVE but nicer people Linkshells I've made.

((Seriously one thing I find a little shameful is something I did in a T9 evaluation of who we would invite to our merc group. It was starting to get frustrating because of my net issues and people dying to stupid stuff. In the last phase, every other Divebomb set is Dive 1 then Iron Chariot Dive 2 and then Lunar Dynamo which means whoever has the marker for the 2nd Divebomb needs to get to the center stack ASAP or they get hit hard and heal the boss. As BLM, aetherial manipulation is great. I was 2nd divebomb. I get there, and I'm ready to AM. TOO ready. Before the marker disappears, I click it, join the group, go "FUCK" in voip, and start running away.

Queue watching the group get blasted to death as I just got them all divebombed. While I watched.

The awesome WHM describes the event "Yeah I saw her go there.. suddenly she's with us and I think "why's she here so fast. wait why is she running away- oh no."

tl;dr I did something stuid that wiped a group once but everybody in that run says "I can't even get mad."))

Subreddit pax interview. Goes into detail with FC crafting.

"At the release of Heavensward Free Company crafting will become available. Within your Free Company housing you’ll be able to set up a sort of work shop in your basement. You may have seen visual aspects of this shown at a Producer Letter live but you’ll build a workshop in your basement. There’ll be two large categories of stuff you’ll be able to build with your Free Company, first of them being an actual house. And the second one is an airship. I’m sure you want more information about the airships so I’ll delve a bit more into the details about that. With the building of the airship you’re not going to be picking from a list of available designs but building it from different parts. There will be four major parts which go into your Free Company ship. For example the engine, fuel tank, the body, and then the sail that propels you and each part will have different designs as well as different capabilities. If you pick a high capability engine that has good power and a fast speed when you send your Free Company out with that high capability engine to scout based on we’ve been calling a “sky map” it can go out quickly and return fast but it’s a gas guzzler. It takes up a lot fuel. So you then add on a very large fuel tank. But because it’s so huge you lose space to store your items. Considering those different parameters that come with different parts you’ll be discussing among your Free Company members to see which parts you would need to build your ideal airship. So that’s the first part of Free Company crafting in terms of an airship. At the start of Heavensward you’re not only able to have just one ship but you can actually build up to four ships. And those airships will be ranked. And depending on what your rank level is there will be different parts you can and cannot equip. At the start of Heavensward once you build your airship you’ll be able to send it out to scout, no passengers, just the ship goes out to try and scout. And then in a following patch you’ll then be able to board that ship and explore and find uncharted areas. And even beyond there’ll be capabilities to add combat capability so you can have sort of a battleship. So it’s going to be very major content that will become available throughout the 3.x patch series. Once you’re able to go out and explore and travel and find those different areas in the sky you may find that some of these areas may have Notorious hardcore monsters that you can’t beat and just end up defeated and having to have to come back. Or you may find that other Free Company have already visited and trashed it and made a mess of it. Or you may end up finding a land where you can find really rare gathering items, materials that you can harvest. So there will be a lot of very interesting things you can look forward to in the 3.x series."

So uh.. Ship ventures?

The rest of the stuff sounds really cool though :D I wonder what else you can make with your ships.

RPGamer: For players who may not have played a lot of the endgame content already there, will there be any way for them to be eased into the new Heavensward content?

Yoshida: Yes we will have something in place like that. For example our high end raid, Alexander, will have two different modes, Normal and Hard. Normal will be for the people who want to take the time to enjoy the story-line. It will be slightly easier than the current endgame raid, The Binding Coil of Bahamut. It will be easier so that the more casual type player will be able to enjoy it. But at the same time we have the hard mode which is much harder. It’s planned to be even more challenging than the Binding Coil of Bahamut.

This is what I've been waiting for. High end raid content that is more accessible to the casual gamer, allowing for better learning experiences.

Let's hope the loot is good for both difficulties, because even us story snobs would really like to have something to show for our efforts.

Biggest problem I have with Coil is opportunity to practice. If I join up through PF or Duty, I'm here to win. Actually practicing with a group is a luxury afforded only to statics/pre-mades/etc.

I'm personally hoping Normal mode will be that, and Hard will be genuinely hard. HOWEVER, considering how they did HM to EX, I sincerely doubt they'll even be the same fights. Anything you do in Normal won't count, etc. etc.

Just... hope they got better ideas for encounter designs. Or else prepare for divebombs in Alexander raid.

Also, I honestly do not know what they're gonna be doing if Floating Continent is the 24-man. That area was super forgettable in FF6.

Wait, I'm confused... In the Polygon interview, Yoshi-P said that the new jobs will start from level 1. But in this Reddit interview, he says they definitely won't. Perhaps the Polygon interviewer just heard him wrong? That or Yoshi-P be trollin'.

People have been talking about mistranslations so it's possible (very likely) that the Polygon interview is... :/

I just hope that it'll be easier to find reliable groups for future content. I've noticed that European players in particular tend to get screwed over quite a bit when it comes to finding opportunities to tackle some of the higher end content due to time zone differences, a scattered community, people being in completely different social circles and existing raid groups generally being filled up very quickly.

We really do. :( Most raid groups are 1am+ (GMT+00) so I gave up finding a suitably timed one and stay up half the night instead.

Another interview. The big thing of interest here is just a hint of what Astrologian will do. Card drawing will be a part of the class and you can then use the drawn card for buffs/healing or hold it to combine with another card later for greater effect. It sounds like NIN's mudras but maybe with more RNG. He didn't outright say there'd be RNG or not, but that kind of is the essence of drawing cards. I just hope the cards are a 'bonus', and not something to lean on.

I don't want a healer to be a slave to RNG in progression content.

You may be familiar with Dark Knights sacrificing their HP from previous Final Fantasy games. We may want to take that element in consideration for Final Fantasy XIV, but there may be certain elements that do require that. But that will not be the main focus of the actions the Dark Knight takes because it is a tank and if you’re sacrificing your HP that might not work so well.

That last sentence though.... its pretty much how I described that mechanic xD

I actually don't get the impression of AST being anything to do with RNG, instead it sounds more like they can stack effects the more cards they draw, so like you could draw one card and use it for a small heal, or you could draw two cards and use them for a bigger heal, or you could draw two cards and use them for a small heal and a buff. I don't think the cards you draw are randomly generated, I just think they have specific cards that serve a certain function and when combined have different effects (similar to Mudras) and it's up to you to decide if you wanna draw one card and go for a small heal, or hold out and draw more cards for a larger effect.

Someone translated some highlights from the Famitsu interview: http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/2z06p9/famitsu_paxeast_interview/

The fat chocobo might fly.

Maybe.

D-don't tempt me like that, SE.

I'm a little concerned about how all this FC crafting stuff is gonna work out in the long run. Hopefully small FCs won't be penalized too heavily if they don't have a stable full of 4* crafters available to work on stuff. Judging from the things they've said about what they want crafting to be like in Heavensward, I don't think I have too much reason to be concerned, but, well, I can't shake that feeling after what crafting turned into for the 2.x series.

On a more positive note, Machinist being Black Mage Lite makes me quite happy. I'm going to really enjoy pushing out those huge damage numbers. I'm quite good at it, you know. :)

I definitely agree. Just the step from Supra to Lucis is a step in the right direction. Far less dependent on RNG. If that's the direction they want to take with end-game crafting, with the specializations, I'm sure I'll find something I want to specialize in.

As much as I want it to be Blacksmithing, I'm thinking Culinarian.

most likely going to be either WVR BSM or CRP for me.
