  1. If summoners're real as ye say, the tales I heard growin' up might well have some truth to 'em. In particular, the one about the maiden Wiyu springs to mind. 'Twas the most detailed among 'em, ye see. She was a right ravishin' lass, this Wiyu, with bright green eyes an' a fiery spirit to match. Alas, she goes on to meet a premature end. Accordin' to the tale, she an' her comrades square off against Odin, the Dark Divinity. When the battle takes an ill turn, she sacrifices herself to save her party. Right tragic, I know. Now, the encounter s'posedly took place in the Sylphlands, over in the East Shroud. Assumin' there's any truth to the tale, might be as the grimoire used by Wiyu's still lyin' out there somewhere. To be sure, the Allagan Empire's three eras gone, but there ain't no harm in takin' a look, eh?
  2. OOC Note: Cross posted to the Dark Embers events calendar. This sounds hilarious, though it's kinda early and a lot of people work and stuff on Saturdays in our group. I hope you get a good turn out though! :moogle:
  3. I am going to also strongly suggest everyone who was a part of the Gridania Surveyors that remains on Balmung and active submit a ticket to Square-Enix as soon as they possibly can, explaining the situation and giving Gilbert La'pine's full character name in the ticket - even if he changed his character's name in the server move, they'll still be able to find him with their logging system, since that's all tracked even on the Lodestone. Yoshi-P has been a huge supporter of fair play and playing nice, and I get the feeling that Squeenix is not going to let someone get away with this sort of bullocks. They'll be able to compare the logged member list of Surveyors against the current roster for Salvagers, and I'm sure when they match up, they'll give back at least some of what was taken, likely all of it less what Gilbert originally put in there himself. However, note that this kind of restoration takes a lot of time, even though all of these transactions are likely logged even back before they made them visible to us in game with 2.1's changes. I used to work for SOE as a GM for EQ1, and while we could see all kinds of transactions, going through those records could take days, depending upon how "smart" someone got with moving things around; even basic situations, where someone just straight up took everything out of a bank and moved it to another bank, could take time because we usually had to trace things to their original source - so if they do decide to give back everything but what Gilbert himself originally put in...even that is a long bit of log reading. It's also not just as easy as moving him back over and moving those items back - likely, they're probably going to have to remake all those items on Balmung without moving him back over, then delete everything over on Hyperion...which also will take a bit of time. So don't get too frustrated if they say they're going to refund stuff, and then it takes a few days to actually do it! It's a process, it really is, in any MMO. I personally had one character restoration that took me six or seven work days to complete because the hacker was a total wanker and dropped the items all over the ground with the hacked character on one computer, and picked them up with another hacked character on another computer...then did it three more times with three more sets of characters, all but one of which were also hacked accounts. You have no idea how much I love MMOs that don't allow for dropping items on the ground. X.x

  5. You're welcome! It's the least I can do to support events, even if I can't make every single one out there. Things are picking up out of no where (6 applications of various kinds in 24 hours!), but in a good way. I'll possibly be out of town for an SCA event on the 25th (waiting to hear back about it still), but I'll see about sending a contingency of my crew out to the event. If I'm home, I'll be there. =)
  6. Cross posted over on the Dark Embers FC events calendar. We try to keep things from the RPC cross posted over there, since not all of our members frequent the RPC. :moogle:
  7. Everyone's summed up the details rather nicely. I'm just going to throw out there that I really dislike taking my raid group anywhere without a DRG or MNK with us, and I've never had a problem with our DRGs. Anyone whose giving you shit and saying you're worthless for end game is just being silly. :moogle:
  8. Lore bending really does have to happen with how Squeenix did things for some of the classes/jobs. If it's done well, and without being overpowered, and without forcing anything on anyone, it really shouldn't matter all that much. Keep it classy, really. Keep it fun for everyone. Claire isn't a Paladin or a Gladiator IC, I don't RP as either, technically - I use the job/class because it lets me carry the weapon I want to use IC. I also specifically don't get into what she can and can't do with said weapon very often. The classes/jobs I'd like her to be aren't even in game yet, so I sort of skirt around the whole situation as much as I possibly can. As for the White Mage issue that's been brewing here, I still think some of the lore bending can be entwined between what was mentioned from the website and what the elemental in the end of the 1.0 cut scene said. Between these two statements: "Although the art subsequently became forbidden, it is now in the midst of a revival at the hands of the Padjal, chosen of the elementals." "Till such a time as the light of succor shineth in every corner of the realm," ~ Oha-Sok ...multiple, well crafted backgrounds as to why a character is a White Mage but not a Padjal can be constructed even if the Job Quest does the silly "Chosen One" focus. That "Chosen One", for example", was just the start of the revival! The were the first non-Padjal to become a White Mage, and the results were amazing, and that's the spark that began this revival the website talks about. That's really not a Mary Sue level leap of logic there; someone came before your character, paved the way for your character to become a White Mage, though they're still uncommon. Merri made a hugely important observation in all this, that matters to both the White Mage conundrum, and the Dragoon conundrum, the Summoner conundrum and the Echo conundrum: the player characters in the game are the minority, and RPers even more so, however the game just cannot handle showing us every single mundane background individual that exists in the world - especially since they have it running on PS3s! There are hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of Eorzeans who aren't adventurers, who are level 1 classless NPCs. So while it may seem like there's a shit ton of White Mages about as we're RPing at events...there really aren't in the grand scheme of things, so it's not like there's so many that the Pact of Gelmorra's being broken so hard the Greenwrath is immanent, etc; it's quite possible that overall, there's just not enough White Mages doing bad things for the Elementals to flip their sh** yet. There may never be.
  9. So uh...not to hyjack the thread but... ...it may just be my interpretation of the last thing the elemental says but... ...I got the impression the Elementals WANT Succor to be a wider spread thing at some point. "Till such a time as the light of succor shineth in every corner of the realm..." So while it's still sort of Padjal focused right now, if done with enough respect to the ideals of the Pact of Gelmorra and Succor itself, RPing a White Mage who has the support of an elemental entity like Oha-Sok doesn't strike me as being anywhere near Mary Sue because it's something based out of Lore, especially after learning the Elmentals want Succor to reach throughout at least Eorzea again. Frankly, Mary Sues come more from presentation and from stacking multiple special snowflake items. If someone were a White Mage who had the backing of a Padjal or an elemental entity and was a Scholar who discovered the truths behind Nym and unlocked the secrets of Black Magic while being a half-breed child of a Lalafell mother and a Roegadyn father which gave them heterochromia and dual toned hair that is the source of their power all while being best friends with Kan-E-Senna, that would be a Mary Sue (well, a Super Mary Sue, but I was going for making a point) - stacking powerful or "notice me" items on a character is Mary Sue'ing. Having one unique or powerful trait is not, especially if Squeenix's lore kinda forces it on you.
  10. That's what threw me off - the last quest I did was for the Stardust Rod, and I have been way past it for a few weeks now, so I remembered there was mention of multiple copies, but not the entire context of it. Thanks for clarifying it.
  11. To note, in the Relic quest lines, it's specifically stated that the guy is making copies of the item, at least that was what I caught when I did it last time through. You get the original, however it's so badly damaged, it cannot be restored so he makes you replica of it. At least that was how it read from my perspective. Even if I misinterpreted it, that's still an angle any RPer can use if they want their relic weapon to be related to that weapon directly - it's not the Curtana, but a replica that has been imbued with similar powers via an ungodly amount of work and smithing. As mentioned, the other angle I've seen is that the relic weapon is not even a Curtana, but another powerful sword that was acquired by the wielder through some sort of story, usually one on par or more difficult than the A Relic Reborn quest. Cool real world relations though! For the ones that have some, anyway. I think the Veil of Wiyu might have something in Chinese or Japanese Mythology, but I'm not 100% sure.
  12. Yeah, they're showing a lot of dimension hopping in XIV, more than in any other FF game, mixing both canon dimension hoppers with new ones. Lightning was the first dimension hopper to show up, and her Fates explained it.
  13. Just checking to see if this recurring event still happens. Starting to cross-post events for January on our FC site. =)
  14. When we initially started the game, the group we came here with shared initials with another group. Our leader was kinda annoyed by that, but also stumped as to what to change it to; within a couple of weeks, we decided to add -RP to the tag since we were an RP FC. Frequently when I was standing around on Claire, I'd have people send me OOC tells actually thanking me for having the -RP right in the tag. A couple people actually said something about how they were glad it was more than just <>, because they'd run into two different FCs who were using it, and it was confusing - having the FC initials plus the -RP was less confusing but still made it easy to know it was an RP guild. A point that was made a lot in these conversations was that these players were new to the game. Every single one of them had no idea the RPC even existed. They didn't use the official forums, so they didn't hear about this place that way, and none of them had tried Googling for an RP community site, or they'd found the one over on Enjin that's dead and gave up. So when we ended up needing to make a new FC after the group we were with left the game and we departed the group, we decided to just stick with the -RP at the end of our tag. If we ever move to another game, we're probably going to stick with that, just because of how positive the response has been to it previously and how helpful it is to new RPers. Overall, in some ways, it doesn't really matter what your FC tag is, as it is your FC and your $15 USD a month. However, the tag is the hook for your FC, so you have to consider that. While an amusing tag will draw attention, if it's incongruent to your FC, it may not keep their attention; if you can make the tag amusing and have it fit with your FC name, then it works. Otherwise, it may be a good idea to use something that matches or compliments your FC's name, and it may be beneficial to add the -RP tag to help out new RPers or non-RPCers to know you're a RP FC.
  15. I'm so tempted to relink this thread in my post on the official forum asking for life spans and age markers with something like "SEE HOW MUCH FIGHTING THIS CAUSES!?" >.> Just to see if that makes them more inclined to answer. >.>
  16. FC Name: Dark Embers Location: Mist Active Periods: 3 PM EST - 2 AM EST Desired Purchase Date/Time: As soon as the devaluation period hits, and the final World Group 3 prices are active. Our goal is to get a medium plot, which means we're attempting to raise 30m - 37.5m between now and that point in time; if we have more, we'll go after a large plot, but I don't believe we will. I estimate that will be like April 2014? Looking for: We're recently reforged and setting up, and really have no set preferences on what FCs we'd prefer to have as neighbours; we are currently considering wards 3 or 4 for our choice of wards. Mostly, the idea of RP neighbourhoods appeals because a few of us saw it work well with Aion's housing ages ago, and we're hoping to see it happen here. Contact: Claire Brea/Kym'a Thavma, N'aomai Tierell, Atticus Forerunner Just updating our entry, since there's more information and it's a huge change from what we knew.
  17. I still have a thread in on the official lore forums asking for more info from the lore team directly on this. Someday, someday...maybe they'll answer it and we'll have official information on this. Otherwise, we've got very little to go on, as it's unclear whether or not some of the longer-lived examples we see in game are exceptions or the rule. =/
  18. A lot of Duty Finder griefing might not even be coming from our server, given the DF is cross server. My FC mates and I have run into several incidents of DF griefing, all of which have been reported, but only one of those incidents was from someone on the server (we tend to check afterwards). As far as RP griefing goes, I was utterly amazed by the fact that the one time it occurred, Merri sent a tell to the person's FC leader, and the person stopped and ran off almost immediately. That sort of thing hasn't worked in so long (I dare say it hasn't really worked since EQ2 and City of Heroes early days, in my experience), I was just stunned. Granted, it might not be as effective if the person is an officer in an FC (I've heard there's an RP griefer who is), but most FC leaders take their FC's reputation pretty seriously. Drama just happens, especially in RP communities. No offence to anyone, but drama is a natural part of being human, and RPers and theatre nerds (who aren't too different) tend to be a bit more dramatic. I personally feel there's less drama in this community as a whole than what I've seen elsewhere. Most people keep it behind closed doors, and if it does spill out, they do damage control fairly well - even if there's someone who blows something out of proportion. Either that or I exist in a state of blissful unawareness, and just manage to somehow avoid those threads and situations! It's happened before. >.>
  19. I chose Midlander for Claire because she was supposed to be kind of generic in her appearance, aside from choosing a sort of unique hairstyle for 2.0 (haven't really seen anyone with it) since it was short without being boyishly short. She's also supposed to be lithe, which is possible with a Midlander, and smaller than say a lot of male Midlanders, an average Highlander, many Elezen, or any Roegadyn, so that she gets underestimated. So it was an aesthetic choice...but a bit different from most aesthetic choices.
  20. Added it to the Dark Embers event calender. I cross post as many events from the RPC as possible, because not all our members frequent the forums, plus sometimes the calendar here doesn't update properly (likely due to not updating time settings, but no one listens about that). I only do a month at a time for recurring, and check back each month to see if they're still happening. =)
  21. I planned on going, but Sunday night went badly for me; turns out I have Thygeson's superficial punctate keratopathy, and I couldn't even really use my left eye until Tuesday after it had been medicated several times. I'm glad at least some people made it out to the event though! If you end up doing another one, I'd be interested in going.
  22. I was asked, even though I probably won't be in game tonight due to an eye injury - Grindstone still on for tonight even though it's Christmas? I cross post it to my FC's events calendar, and someone pointed out that it fell on Christmas.
  23. Are there any specific days this is going to happen? So I can add them to our events calendar on my FC site? I like to cross-post community events there, since not all our members and FC allies frequent the RPC as much as I do.
  24. It may have been a holiday thing. I know a ton of people who are out of town right now, most of them left this weekend because they got the weekend off, took Monday and either took Tuesday off, or got Tuesday and Wednesday off from work for Christmas. My suggestion is perhaps polling the population after Christmas and New Years are done. I know a lot of people who still somehow get both weeks off from work, and take both weeks out of town. I really think this is more of a timing thing, given there was a lot of interest in a bazaar idea during the FC leadership meeting back a few months ago.
  25. Copied on the Dark Embers event calendar with a link back to this post. I try to copy all the Balmung events over there since some of our members don't keep up with the RPC all that much.
