I'd be up for RPing right from the start if I find something to jump in on, or someone wants to do something (I'm starting in Ul'dah). That said I'm also keen to get my hands on an airship pass as soon as I can, which means levelling... (I had an issue with the account I used in the OB so I have to reroll Lothaire on my new shiny NA account for the EA ). As fun as RPing is I would like to be able to join the rest of my FC in the wider world at some point. Eventually.

I vote for this one.

If anyone is still getting the Error 3 problem, I found this on the Beta forums - it might help. I was still getting the Error 3 this morning even though a lot of other people seem to be getting through just fine. After doing the above it actually fixed it for me. I don't know if that's helpful for anyone else, but I thought it wise to share it on anyway; just in case.

I am terrible at writing character backgrounds. I just don't find it interesting at all so I usually have to find other ways around it. Questionnaires rarely work for me either; unless I know the inside of my characters head it's really hard to do for some reason. I do find that writing short stories can be useful - just throw the character into a situation and see what happens. Or write a journal from their point of view. Unlike the Questionnaire option it gives me a bit more room to dig around and explore their reactions to certain situations. And the latest thing I tried was writing up the character's profile from the point of view of an observer - like someone was spying on him and writing up a report on his activities and behaviour. That was a lot of fun to do and quite a good way to figure out the details.

While I'm quite happy to roll Lothaire as a lancer... if they put in a class that uses guns or gunblades I will absolutely drop everything else at once.

I have the same thing and it honestly has me a little worried. When I use the log-in details for my actual service account (this link) to log-in to the registration one (which appears as you say to be a different site - if you complete that form there it'll finalise the set up of an account there) it lets me log in, but it doesn't show my 1.0 FFXIV game under the games listing. I can see the game account on my service account, but not that other site despite using the exact same log-in details. Which leaves me concerned as to whether putting in the pre-order code is going to work or not. The two accounts are not connected. They aren't connected at all. You can use the same information in both, or use completely different information. The nationally-affiliated account has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you get Early Access. The 20-digit code you get from entering the 18-digit code in the pre-order site needs to be entered into your service account. As long as your service account actually has the code entered, and reflects that you have early access, you have early access. Again, the two accounts are not connected. Which is dumb, and confusing, but there you have it. Edited to Add: I realized that this is just...I get confused reading my own post. Okay. So. You pre-ordered the game. YAY! You should have either a) received a receipt with an 18 digit code on it (if you ordered from Square US, you should have gotten it, and I hear Amazon was doing the same), or b) gotten an email from your vendor with the code. That is the 18-digit code. You are meant to take that code and go to the pre-order site and enter it in. If all goes well, you should get a second code that is 20 digits long. That 20 digit code needs to be entered on your service account. As long as the 20 digit code is attached to your service account, you will get early access. That just seems... so confusing. I am easily confused at the best of times but this is... ugh. So, if I'm getting this right - I can put the pre-order code that is in the e-mail into the pre-order website, which is attached to the nationalised site. That will give me a second code, which I then log-in to my service account and input there? And that should give me early access on that account?

I noticed this too and it honestly has me a little worried. I don't know whether the log-in for the beta forums is different but it almost seems like they've two different sites. I'm pretty sure when I logged in to the beta forums it used the service account log in, not that other one. I found that completing that form, using the log-in details I use to access the game, allowed me to then go back and put in the code. Or it would if the code thing was working. My concern though is that when I use the log-in details for my actual service account (this link) to log-in to the registration one (which appears as you say to be a different site - if you complete that form there it'll finalise the set up of an account there) it lets me log in, but it doesn't show my 1.0 FFXIV game under the games listing. I can see the game account on my service account, but not that other site (preorder.na) despite using the exact same log-in details. Which leaves me concerned as to whether putting in the pre-order code is going to work or not. I don't want to put it in and then find that it didn't apply to my 1.0 account.

I did this too. False hope. On the other hand the Japanese server group seems to be offline now, or so I assume anyway - its not showing up anymore for me. Maybe they've taken them down rather than doing the same as they did for the NA ones? Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. *twitches* I think I should take this as a sign to go to bed like a normal person...

On the launcher, in the news box, there's a link titled "Several Worlds Emergency Maintenance (Aug. 17)". It's all under there. Fingers crossed it fixes it...

This sounds like it would be insanely awesome to play. I would love to see this. Other than that something, anything, with a gun.

I've had so many problems trying to order games through Gamestop that I've stopped trying now. I find its generally more reliable to use Amazon or something. I guess it depends on the store in your area and how good they actually are though.

I personally am fascinated by this angle. I don't have the head for it myself but I can see if being a ton of fun RPing with someone who does. Seriously, ever since I saw your suggestion about it in the XI:7 LS thread I've been hooked on it. I would love to see this. I am good with someone who can supply us with things that go boom. We should get together some time and talk about, ahem, possibilities... Of course not; it's all completely innocent. Our good friends wouldn't be involved in anything deceptive now would they? It's just harmless research... On a slightly more serious note, its cool to see some interest in this. I look forward to meeting everyone.

My answer to this varies depending on my position within the group. I prefer to avoid conflict, so if I am one of the people being affected by it but not the leader or in any other position to make that kind of decision, and it got bad enough I would simply let my character leave when he/she would naturally do so; taking myself out of the equation rather than continuing on with a situation that my character wouldn't choose to be in. I've been in a situation like this a few years ago and ended up with my character changing in ways she shouldn't have in order to remain within the group (who I'd been rping with for a long, long time) after a new person joined and her character refused to play by the rules and never, ever suffered any IC consequences. I don't believe people should feel that they have to change their characters personality or choices in order to prevent further conflict like that when the other party refuses to give. I am now more inclined to find another group of people to RP with, whilst maintaining contact with the old, than try and force my own character to remain where she obviously wouldn't. If I were running the guild then I would rather the character who doesn't fit be asked to leave than to expect the rest of the group (which may be quite substantial) to accept changes being thrust on them in order to suit this one person, or expect them to turn a blind eye to the obvious rule-flaunting or lack of ic-consequences. While its really hard to say to someone "I'm sorry, this isn't working, you have to go" is it really fair to allow one person's character to force others to change theirs in order to justify staying, or push other ic changes on the group/guild in order to allow the rules to be broken without consequence? I am a believer that IC actions should equal IC consequences, and if the character or their player won't accept that, then maybe that group isn't the best place for them. I'd rather see an amicable parting of ways then just ignore the problem which could then fester into something worse. There's no reason why an IC clash has to lead to OOC drama (though sadly it often seems to), and there's no reason why a person who's character doesn't fit the group can't still RP with them anyway in other ways or times. One final point: I think this is something the leadership of the group or guild in question needs to be willing to come forward and make a stand on. In my situation, no-one was willing to make the decision to enact any IC consequences and things were just left to roll forward. OOC discussions just led to the usual excuse of 'that’s just how he is' and the character was allowed to stay. This led to more confrontations between characters, and finally pushed myself and others into having to come up with creative reasons for our own characters to remain in the situation - because without that they would simply have walked out. In a group with an established member base and an established story etc I don't believe this is very fair. I hope this doesn't give people the wrong impression though. I'm not against RPing with new people, I think that IC conflict is good and can be quite fun, and I have a lot of patience when it comes to things like this, but if it is causing drama and runs the risk of spilling over from IC to OOC then decisions need to be made.

Three cheers for familiar faces. Its good to see you here. I will hunt you down in game. I've started putting up some info on my two characters on the wiki, after finally figuring out how to do it (wiki-literate I am not, but I did learn something new there). If anyone wants to know more about them then just look for Taryn Thorne and Takh'a Nybori under Player Characters. I'm still tweaking details though so its all subject to change. As a side note, I would love to find people to RP with those characters; if anyone's interested just shoot me a message. I've done that before. I am thinking about putting up some writings about my characters either as short stories or as a journal. I love the fact that so many people here do the same sort of thing - I've had so much to keep me occupied reading through them all.

I love this. My Miqo'te likes to make and decorate small wooden toys and things. Nothing big, but just little things like model animals, puzzles, wagons and the like.

I. Basic Info Characters: Takashi Akiyama, Khojin Kha Primary character: Takashi Akiyama Free Company: House of the Four Winds Server: Mateus II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium - Heavy. Views on RP combat and injuries: Injuries are fine, as long as they're discussed and relevant to the RP. No death or permanent disfigurement without discussing it first though. Views on IC romance: IC romance is fine as long as it makes sense, is appropriate to the relationship already developing between the characters and it happens naturally. I don't do ERP though, fade-to-black only. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Yes, but please ask me first so I know your intention as we can hash something out. I love background ties though, so if you have an idea for something don't be afraid to pitch it. Views on lore: I like to try and stick as close to the lore as possible when I RP, but I do make mistakes now and then. With regards to others, I have no real problem RPing with people who have characters who bend or twist the lore unless it is in a really ridiculous manner (things that are OTT OP like claiming to be a god, or to have special powers that shouldn’t exist in the world etc). That said, unless the interaction is going to have long term effects on my own characters I usually don't have a problem with much. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): For LS and FC chats I abide by the rule of the group, so if it's IC I use it IC, if it's OOC I use it OOC. I prefer to keep emotes and /say as IC if possible, and will usually resort to whisper or party chat if I need to say anything OOC. Too much OOC chatter in /say is very distracting and I do find it difficult to concentrate in RP when there are people spamming up the /say with non-rp things. III. Other Info Country:Canada Timezone:EST Contact info: Whisper me in game or send me a message here on this site.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Elicoidali, I'll definitely take a look at that mentorship thing. Sounds like a great idea and I have a feeling that having someone to ask questions of would be very helpful. Nel Celestine, I'll make sure to take a look. Nothing wrong with a self promotion.

I am still toying with my character idea but I think she might fit in this category, kind of. I don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to FFXIV lore and I don't want to step on any toes or break any major lore rules or anything so I'm being a little slow in coming up with my character. That said mine is leaning pretty close to having worked for the Garlean Empire at some point in her past history, only she doesn't really know that at this point in time. I'm thinking that she was working as an assassin, a spy or something just as shady for the Garlean Empire prior to the Calamity, but she doesn't know that right now. Currently she is living and working in Gridania, since that's where she was when memory loss event happened, and she has only hazy recollections of the time before the Calamity. When she found her way to Gridania after the event the belongings she had on her suggested that she was an alchemist or a botanist or something along those lines, so that's what she's been doing in the years since then. Only around the beginning of ARR will she be discovering that there are elements to her past that aren't quite so innocent. I usually try and steer clear of the amnesia background when it comes to my characters (mostly because it seems a bit cliché and an excuse not to come up with anything more in depth) but it seems interesting to me to have a character with a shadier history, who is only just relearning her past. The idea that she's not who she thinks she it, the possibility that someone from her past might pop up and 'out' her, and that the people she currently is living in the midst of would consider her an enemy if they ever found out is really interesting to me so I think I might run with it. Whether she would be a Loyalist or a deserter if/when she got her memory back I don't know. I guess it depends on why she was working for them in the first place.

I'm really terrible at introductions, but I also feel uncomfortable just jumping into forum posts without having at least attempted one, so this is my attempt at saying hello. I have no idea where to start other than to say I enjoy writing and find RP a good way to play around with character ideas and have fun in a relaxed, fun environment. I find that having other people to engage in stories with is a lot of fun; things seem to go in the most random of directions when a bunch of characters all get together like that. I have RP'd in a few different games, most recently Tera and Rift but most of my RP background has been in forum-based settings so I'm a little rusty when it comes to mmo RP. That said I love to RP with people, and am looking forward to the launch of FFXIV. I am really rusty when it comes to lore in FFXIV, but I've been doing a bit of digging around and a friend of mine recommended this site as a good place to start. So, hi everyone. I hope my awkward and rambling introduction is ok. I look forward to meeting people in the game.
