  1. to the lone Cactuar voter. You do you.
  2. If you have any reluctance to transfer your main and leave friends or accomplishments behind, don't do it. I'd wholeheartedly endorse making an alt, exploring the RP scene on Omega, get your level 30 alt-bonus incentive while you're milling around. Then if it's not for you, you haven't lost anything. But if you enjoy it and want to bring your main afterwards, then you've at least done it with an educated decision. This. This is exactly what my wife and I plan on doing this weekend. We had been planning on Mateus, but decided it best to explore all options before making a definite decision. If we level on Omega on alts and end up deciding it isn't for us, then it's nothing lost but a few hours. We are in the US, so there will be a slight latency difference, but I tried it out and was floating around 140-160 so it's well short of "unplayable." The only concern we might have as far as RP goes is being 5-7 hours behind a lot of EU players. Are there any FCs forming up already, specifically any late nighters? That would be our best option probably. We typically play around midnight-4am GMT. I joined the EU Discord this morning before coming to work but didn't stay long enough to see much, just joined it so I wouldn't forget.
  3. Oh! I didn't realize those had a bonus and thought they were just cosmetic. haha I have it preordered, so good to go! Thanks.
  4. How do you get the earrings? That would certainly be a nice extra boost.
  5. It isn't exactly beating a dead horse if it's still a current and relevant topic. We still haven't gotten the server list. People are making a push to have an official server labeled in the wake of the most recent lock out and RP discussions. Plus, new people are welcome to have opinions on subjects even if those opinions echo others. Humans have been around for a while now, and yet we still talk about the weather every time it rains. Kousagi: The point about people not knowing is valid. That's what happened when I started playing the first time. My guild mates and I from WoW decided to try out FF14, and chose a server (I believe Sarg) then after a couple weeks they got wind that Balmung was the place to be and all moved. I didn't want to move, and ended up quitting/taking a long break shortly after. Having it locked entirely for a while will guide people in the direction of expanding other communities instead of pouring it all into one. My wife and I are down to move as well, and for similar reasons.
  6. I like that, since it's basically how I played Final Fantasy 7 haha. After getting to disc 3, I would have a separate save slot where that's all I did was fly around trying to complete the game 100% and raise/race chocobos and whatnot. I'd make up my own missions and try to complete them just so the game didn't have to end.
  7. Raynar would likely just slip quietly away to a secluded hut in the middle of nowhere, only really telling his plans to those closest to him. He'd probably end up gardening, raising some chocobos and have a pet phurble named Fizzgig. He'd likely turn into the friendly old man who aids adventurers who come upon his little stead by offering them food and a soft bed for the night. He might even have a quest for them. But not one of those chains that makes you repeatedly run back and forth across an entire zone. You'll get it all done in one trip. And he won't make you run through herds of toads to get there.
  8. That's a fair point too. I think a lot of people also just get this stereotype in their head about what something is, and they refuse to believe anything different. When in reality, most RPers I know enjoy it because they're creative, and it presents an outlet for that creativity. They enjoy writing and the friendship it brings. If anything, it's the RP haters who are one dimensional. I do disagree that ignoring them isn't the best option. Feeding a troll keeps it alive. If you starve them, they will move along. When they don't get a reaction, and they realize their tantrum isn't resulting in mommy putting a binky in their mouth, they will get tired of it.
  9. Unfortunately for them, what they want doesn't really matter. People are going to do what they do. You don't have to fix that, just ignore it. I played WoW on Wyrmrest Accord from the year the server opened until last year, and it had the same issue even though it's labeled an RP server. You will always have RP haters. Really, in everything in life you have people who don't like it, so they don't think anyone else should enjoy it either. They are just sad, sad little people, and should be pitied. I remember a coworker who hated baseball because he thought it was boring, and any time I was having a conversation with someone else about a game, he had to pipe up about how stupid baseball is. Those people exist, and always will. Just enjoy the good people within the community and brush those people off.
  10. As long as you've got some kind of knowledge and a good attitude, it's not too difficult to get a spark going. The overwhelming majority of people I've played and RPed with have been very forgiving to someone who is new, even if it's only new to a specific scene. If you have prior experience, you've got a leg up. Just do some reading, get to know your community a bit, and find a group of friends (even 1 or 2) who you're comfortable with if you don't want to dive into random walk ups. Also, use this forum! Run things by people OOC and say "hey does this sound stupid?" lol I haven't been on this site long myself, but it seems to be full of helpful people.
  11. I'm sort of in the same boat. Although it's difficult to predict how a server will pan out when it's entirely new and given a label. I guess that's part of the fun? lol At least for the time being I'm occupied by leveling as I started fresh on my current account, and am working on 60. Shooould get it before SB. I'm just excited for about 2 weeks from now when we have a more clear idea of what's going down, and people have started making the shuffle.
  12. I'm not sure the majority are really disgruntled. There will always be some, but I've seen plenty of people optimistic about a fresh start and meeting new people. I think most people don't think along the "us vs them" lines, it's just that the ones who do are vocal about it. They are just angry people, and they have to let people know they're angry. As for people really wanting to be there, it may be true, but WHY it's true is also important. If you were stranded in the ocean and there was only one raft floating by for you to climb into, of course you'd WANT to get into it because it's your only choice. I'm sure if you had money you would pay to get onto it. lol The "Balmung or nothing" attitude doesn't make any sense now since it isn't an option for anyone who isn't already there.
  13. Which is the fastest growing if Mateus is second? It isn't a potential alternate RP realm as well, is it? **Never mind! I saw you mention Cactuar in another thread.
  14. At this point, it's something that's going to happen. It's really easy to say you want it all focused on one server... when it's YOUR server. lol The entire point of this is trying to find an alternative since Balmung is locked. It isn't an option. Suggesting we should all stick to Balmung is akin to someone suggesting that a solution to a poor budget is just make more money. It isn't realistic. The best option is to properly balance your budget. We can't force SE to do anything about the servers. We can ask. We can scream and stamp our feet, but we have no control. THIS we do control. At least somewhat.
  15. This is mostly because everyone knows of at least one way to bypass the 'timer auto-kick' True. One of my guildies linked to be a programs that basically "jiggles" your mouse so a game always thinks you're online. If you don't wanna get booted, you'll find ways Which is kind of what confuses me. People like to stay on to avoid the queue, but if everyone would stop staying on, then there wouldn't be a queue. lol At least not nearly as often. And even now when I log on in the evening, I MIGHT have a 30 second to 1 minute wait. No issue in the day to day, but I could see it causing issues during busy times like a launch. Anyway, sorry this was a bit off topic, just kind of popped up in response to the other post.
  16. Out of curiosity, have they ever mentioned adding an AFK timeout like many games have? Seems like the queue on Balmung would evaporate instantly if they booted some of the tons of people who literally never log out, but just afk until they want to play again.
  17. I tend to ignore people like that entirely anyway, so it's a positive thing if they don't want to RP with me. If someone makes assumptions on a person's worthiness to be liked and included based on which server they clicked to play on in a video game, then I want no part of them. That goes for both sides. Those people are probably terrible RPers anyway if they can't open their mind and are so quick to place judgement on people based solely one knowing one thing about them. Would you want to get involved in a story with someone like that? There will be great people and turds on any server and in any game. I've played enough MMOs and been around enough people IRL to know this attitude is a human one, not a gamer or RPer one. If you care about building the community, then work towards that. The trash will eventually take itself out.
  18. Possibly, but it will be affected if one or more of them aren't on the transfer list. It would still give us a pretty clear cut favorite though.
  19. I feel like right now we're all just tapping our feet waiting on the list even though it seems a large number of people are at least fairly sure where they're going. I'm also optimistic that the jump potions may end up being a positive for allowing people to have alts more readily available on alternate servers. I keep coming here assuming once the list is released someone will post it here almost immediately.
  20. I listen to a lot of viking or celtic themed music for inspiration. **As a side note, I like that FF14 actually has nice sound itself in comparison to other MMOs. Adrian von Ziegler is a good go to for something more inspirational. Some people's anxiety, like mine, is based on confidence, and having something with a powerful feel behind it is the boost needed to step up to the plate. For anxiety relief I tend to turn to reiki inspired ASMR in the background. Good to kind of clear the mind and mentally prepare, not just for RP, but anything really. Also really good to relax before bed.
  21. No surprise, really. It's the same thing with Moonguard in WoW. It has a bad rep from people outside the server because it does have a lot of "questionable" goings on and odd individuals. At the same time, just like Balmung, or any other highly populated server in an MMO, it also has a lot of great people who are kind, helpful, and interesting. But people tend to latch onto the negatives because they're more fun to talk about. Humans, right?
  22. Kind of what I was thinking. I started a character there to poke around a bit. I also created some on the EU datacenter since I haven't ruled that out as an option either, just to test the latency. I guess I can just hang tight then until we get more info. Thanks!
  23. I've been debating making one on Mateus now, or waiting to move because of one detail. Maybe someone can clear it up for me. The exp bonus + gil incentive. Will it be only for new characters that are created after the list is released and free transfers opened? If I make one now will I miss out on either of those? It's also a potential place for a bug to pop up. (I've played enough MMOs to be aware of how things like that can sometimes have hiccups.) We seem pretty certain Mateus will be open to free moves, and it seems like it's leading the pack for being a new RP spot, but I want to make sure I'm not missing any info before diving in.
  24. They will work with enough attention and support from the community. Just like Balmung, minus SE's hardware capabilities which is forcing us to pick an extra place. But what do I know, I'm not an expert. The spoiler alert on that made me chuckle.
