1. These guys might help? http://home.comcast.net/~nakomaru/ffmaps/
2. From what I heard, every server was pretty full. SE really didn't realize the sheer quantity of interest there was in the game NA side. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. I ended up playing on a JP server when NA was inaccessible, but I didn't do any RP.
3. I find I tend to come across songs that fit amazingly well by accident. One character I had had a whole soundtrack based on his personality and various situations he'd been in. I'ma have to start listening to more music because I don't have anything for Darien yet.
4. Sometimes rather than a background, I just try to do vignettes, like a series of little tiny things that happened to him, i.e. a dog stole his sandwich, he ran too fast around a corner and knocked someone over, someone mistook him for someone else. That way even though it's not covering his history per se, it's still helping me flesh him out, and I can throw him into whatever crazy situations I can come up with. And if I can't come up with anything crazy... to the internet for random story generators!
5. Musketeer/Corsair/Thief pleeeeeease!
6. Yeah, Night Blades are on my "to contact" list as well. Conflict would likely have to be the 'we're all after the same thing and only one of us can get there first' or other specific instances. Or with just individual characters playing antagonist roles, rather than the companies. Because as far as overall ideals go, we're pretty similar, heh.
7. Yes! I remember seeing this and then getting into the game and wondering where my one-handed sword options were. I wouldn't dare go without my shield, but they said that thing. Why did they say it?!
8. Psh, I'd barricade an orphanage and set it on fire. Pick me!
9. Curiosity and adaptability are both very important qualities for Darien. Because of that, it'd almost be silly for him not to do all the jobs. That being said, just because he knows how to do something, doesn't mean he likes doing it. And there will be things that I as a player won't handle as well as others simply because I've focused more on other things. Even if I cap out everything, IC, he'll have his preferences and his particularly focused skills. Everything else will be "well, yeah, of course I know how to do that, but it's just not me, you know." And anything that's "just not him" he won't be that awesome at because a) he doesn't care about it enough, b) he's put in the majority of his efforts elsewhere, and c) so have I. He's going to be a physical type fighter first and foremost. I haven't decided on his favorite job yet, probably Lancer, but I've been sticking with Gladiator and Marauder. But as a closet intellectual, he'll still be very curious about magic and want to see the inner workings of such things.
10. I thought the OP was asking about Musketeer, ha! Every time I see that symbol in Limsa I get wistful. I want my double guns so badly.
11. I, too, hear that Pavlov fishery. I hit level 20 Fishing during P4. Slightly embarrassed. But every time I got a new kind of lure, I had to go find the new fish! I HAD TO. Crafting's a bit the same. I love filling out the log and then trying to get HQs out of useful things. But the sound effects for armorsmithing/blacksmithing (whichever it is that uses the file) are like nails on a chalkboard and make me cry. The sound effects for alchemy and cooking make me happy-calm.
12. I. Basic Info Characters: Cillien Vaincannet, Qhora Bajihri (Balmung) Primary character: Cillien Vaincannet Primary RP Free Company: The Immortals Linkshells: II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I would prefer heavy, but I'm adaptable. Views on RP combat and injuries: Prefer consent for any and all combat, but am willing to enter any kind of freeform or system combat if approached. I definitely don't need to win most (possibly any) fights, but I'm also not a fan of being nothing more than a punching bag. Views on IC romance: I'm not looking for it, but will wing it as appropriate if approached. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Of course. Anything with depth probably requires OOC discussion, but I'm up for most things. Views on lore: I like lore, so the more evidence of it there is in interactions, the happier I am, but I try not to be overly critical. Drastic lorebreaking might make me raise an eyebrow, but it won't usually chase me off entirely. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I try to assume IC unless stated otherwise, but will generally fall in line with however others appear to be using a given channel, no matter which channel it is. (()) bracketing always indicates OOC for me, but I try to avoid those as well unless needed. III. Other Info Country:Canada Timezone:EST/EDT - Kind of random. Contact info:PM here or tells if I'm online are fine.
13. Guess I should finally put my stamp in here. Hello everybody~ MMORPG background: My first MMO was actually FFXI! I've been through a lot of them since, especially a lot of betas/free trials. My big ones have been WoW, SWTOR, and GW2, though, mostly WoW. I even did raid leading there for a couple years. RP experience: I was RP Officer for my guild in WoW for a while and since then have always roleplayed in my MMOs. I have a reputation for being a bit intimidating for some reason. I type fast and I get really into it, I guess. And I have a writing background, so that comes out sometimes. Character ideas/info: Darien's going to be my main. He's vaguely based off of a few previous characters I've had, but with some new factors to hopefully make him more social/approachable. I tend to play standoffish jerkbags with a heavy dose of dry wit. Even when I play nice characters, they end up being very sarcastic. I'm so sorry. Ha! How did you learn about the coalition?: My current guild/FC leader linked it for us all. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy?: Heavyyyy. I'm the kind who likes to RP dungeon runs. I'm still waffling a bit about how much I'm going to RP in public channels/with non-RPers, but hopefully I'll get back into the habit of speaking in ways that can both be taken IC and understood OOC.
14. You might know Darien Cadell from... A brief stint as a dishwasher at a tiny but popular restaurant in Ul'dah (especially if you also knew a certain NPC Elezen waitress) a few years ago Hanging around the Alchemists' Guild staring intently at other people's experiments Sitting in the middle of any given square/public place in Ul'dah, sharpening a sword and people watching Fishing almost anywhere, especially in strange places in the midst of a lot of violence
15. I'd actually been waiting to contact the Blades (and the Mysterium) until we got our FC set up, but I would love to make contact any time~ Possibility of villainy or at least conflict on our part certainly exists. Just got to find me a cowry.
16. A pair of tiny keys. One unlocks a little box he keeps under his bed. The other is a mystery. Ooooh. I briefly had a tough time figuring out what he might use, but I opened up the 100 questions I had half answered and they were right there, waiting for me.
17. Oof, I was hoping we could get some of our peeps up in this thing, but if it's full already, uhh... wow. Ha! I'll try and find someone with whom to inquire further once Early Access gets started up.
18. Aaaugh, the time-wastey. I approve, though. 'tis fun. I really haven't solidified Darien enough to give solid explanations, but it was definitely a good exercise in picking the kind of things I want to develop more as I play him.
19. I saw some of you in-game as I was frantically flying by on my way to being so excited to be playing again. Excited! I was going to play GW2 for the next few days, but my internet's decided to be a jerk, so I don't know. Maybe I'll go dust off FFXIII since I never really got into that one. I'm just glad the jerkternet waited until the beta was over. 3102 had me locked out for about 24 hours, but I got to 20 on a JP server in the meantime, ha!
20. I have a question~ You said the 500 gil fee is IC. Does that mean no actual gil is exchanged? If actual gil is exchanged, what are those funds going to be used for?
21. ((After more extensive discussion amongst our excited members, we've decided to head to Balmung instead. Can't wait to see you all there!))
22. So you're interested in the Grim Echo... If you've heard of us, it probably involved something dangerous, forbidden, or stomach turning. And on some level, that's just what we're about. We're a bunch of very different people coming together to advance common goals, the most overreaching of which is laying the Empire low. What we all have in common is a focus that polite society deems, shall we say, overkill. Find yourself left behind because your methods are a little too extreme? You might fit in with us. We're home to evil witches, mad scientists, murderers, thieves, rogues and rakes, the fanatically obsessed, the generally antisocial, and of course the kind of psychopaths that seem absolutely charming on the surface. Just don't turn your back on them. But because we understand this about each other, we can encourage and support each others' eccentricities and accomplish surprising things, great things. Also, these people, our kind of people, Grim kind of people generally have a taste for power of some kind, often the kind the general populace don't approve of, e.g. forbidden knowledge, dark magic, direct command over the minds and souls of others, or simple supremacy in any and every form. In our quest for this kind of power, Grim don't let anything stand in our way - not heroic idealism, not social acceptability, not hordes of hideous monsters. We like to go out there and get what we want, no matter what it takes. Stop at nothing, that's us. Our glorious leader likes to call it "Victory by any means." So if you're the kind of person who believes your goal, whatever it might be, justifies whatever you need to do to get it, even (especially?) if your family and polite society would disown you for your methods, then you might be right up our alley. What we're looking for... We're looking to fill out our roster with those interested in taking on greater and greater challenges. Of course, the healers and the vanguards, or whatever you want to call the people who let themselves get hit while everyone else is busy hitting, those types are valuable. How to join us... Easy. Just drop off a letter introducing yourself. Someone will track you down and get in contact with you. ((This way, folks: https://thegrim.org/ffxiv)) Looking for more information... We've got some files available for public viewing. Feel free to read as much as you want. You can also leave a message for Sindl Arahn, our glorious leader, with any questions you have, any way that works for you. Always happy to help. ((Public forums: https://thegrim.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=71 Sending a PM here, at the Grim forums, posting on this listing, or sending tell in-game should all work fine for contact methods.))
