  1. I like to do my job switching in character, but with certain limitations. Like Darien can heal as a lowbie CNJ, so Darien IC knows a little bit about healing, but he's pretty unlikely to step up and save anyone from anything with sudden wand waving and glowy cures, unless he happened to already be in CNJ mode, which is almost never, and in which case, he'd be struggling with it. I also figured he's an extremely curious person on a certain level, so trying out all these things is going to interest him. I have been working on any given job with him in order of IC interest, though, which amuses me. He's a Lancer, but really, he'd never be a "Dragoon" per se, still he plays that off as having done some work for the Ishgardians and they gave him fancy armor.
  2. Aw, now I wish I had a specific I could remember. Maybe there's a screenshot back in my files somewhere. If/when I get naughty, I get extremely paranoid and I double triple check copy-paste, etc. I don't think I've ever MTed something godawful horrible. But on the way to naughty, plenty of times I'm just like blahblahblah oops that was in say oh well. I've a couple times ranted about how much I hate this and that person undercutting prices on the market board and it ended up in /say. At which point I ran away, but it's not like retainer names are character names anyway. On the receiving end, I remember some girl MTing something about being skewered by some well-endowed fellow in the middle of a giant public (not RP) event in GW2. And there was the *tapes butt* from a friend in /p in FFXI. Never did figure that one out, but won't forget it. Tapes butt?!
  3. Bronze Lake. *wiggly eyebrows* It's a hot springs place. Beautiful, lots of little corners and buildings, you can guess what it's favored for, but get a couple people there who wouldn't usually be caught dead in a swimsuit and much fun ensues. Seen a bit in Fallgourd, too, as I've run through at breakneck speed from one place to another. Not as much as other locales, but seems like a nice out of the way place to go for a public conversation. "STONE" "Grim" and "NB" have the people I've been RPing with regularly. I really do see the most unexpected RP in the Adventurers' Guilds in each city. Great for eavesdropping.
  4. Oh geez. I've been doing a lot of this lately and have everything up to 30+. I'll just keep the list to the 50s. Character name: Darien Cadell Server: Balmung Time Zone: EST (but often sleepless, overnight/early morning more likely than midday) Crafting profession + level: Blacksmith 50 Culinarian 50 Carpenter 50 (new) Alchemist 50 (new) Gathering: Fishing 50 Botany 50
  5. *throws in 2cent coins* Didn't mind Yda/Papalymo. Wept bitter tears that Gideon Emery was so incredibly underused (let's hope that changes in the future). Pretty much found everyone else annoying as I usually do English VAs in Asian-style animated works (except Spirited Away and Howl's - Mononoke had great VA, but just didn't suit the story for me). I did switch to JP voices, but only after I finished the entire story + city starters in their English versions. I've been curious to see if the mouth movements match up better or if they're actually just the default 'blahblahblah' animation we all get when we say something, but so far have pretty much only seen people with masks talking, ha!
  6. ^ Direct from the Miqo Naming conventions post. Ten sons is a haaa not likely. I've got a Keeper, but her family history's sort of set, and she's one of only three individuals that survived post-Carteneau from a group of a few families. Still, might be interesting to encounter others here and there.
  7. I think it's a great idea, especially if you can build up a good backlog of ideas/end up with a prolific creative bunch to keep things (packages, parcels, letters!) moving. I have someone (not Darien, far too messed up for such a practical venture) who may be interested if you end up moving forward.
  8. From my POV: Short answer to title question: Yes. For me. Heroes have a tendency to drive me to boredom tears, to the point that I can't play a good half of the FF games for more than a couple hours because the protagonists drive my face through my coffee table with the force of my headdesking, but I would never extend that tendency of mine to the world at large. The most "good" I've played have been neutral self-interested with excellent senses of humor. Usually, I dive right off the deep end into lunatic manipulative mustache-twirlers. And I try to get myself ensconced in a group of lunatic manipulative mustache-twirlers. However, in my experience, no matter what side of the evil/good fence you play on, the other one seems... I don't know if "stronger" is the right word, but something like that. Even while surrounded by my fellow psychopaths, my characters have seemed to run across a constant stream of arrogant, flag-wielding, idealist knights in shining armor. That's not a bad thing, and is an extremely good thing in appropriate doses, but it's easy to sit here on my side of the fence and say 'Hot damn, is there nothing but goody-goodies out there?' Meanwhile, I find out later that they're on that side of the fence saying 'No one plays anything but murdering jerks anymore.' And it happens in every game I've played over the past decade. So... that.
  9. Technically, Darien's got some Garlean influence in his background, but he doesn't recognize it at this point, and I'm kind of holding those cards from him until "the right time" whatever that is. But someday probably maybe I don't know YAY ROLEPLAY HAVE FUN.
  10. To me, selling runs isn't something I have a problem with per se, provided the guild doing so is respectable, insofar as that can be defined at all. Usually for me that means no advertising at all and just offering the service to people who ask for it because they've developed a reputation for skill. That being said, buying or selling runs is not something I would ever choose to do myself. I see it like an opposing political view. Sure, whatever, I guess it works for some people if they want to play the game like that. But I certainly agree that for me, it cheapens the experience and reduces content, which is in effect the game itself, to gil for cutscenes and clothing, which just isn't my definition of fun. I won't frown at you for doing it, but don't expect me to cheer, either. You do your thing, I'll do mine. Doing anything to purposely sabotage a a dungeon run, though, whatever the reason, is pretty sad and despicable. Being a bad player is one thing. Ruining other people's game is not cool on any level.
  11. I'm pretty sure the starter peddler for Limsa uses anyroad. My brain tells me it's used in all three cities depending on how "classy" the character is supposed to be, but I have no proof atm.
  12. Do I have to go screenshot the quest dialog for that Roe in Jr. La Noscea that is quite clearly doing horrible, horrible things to sheep in a bedtime manner? 'cause that's just... I don't even -- This game's offensive sometimes. That offended me in a 'holy crap I have to tell everyone I know that this happened' kind of way. But players =/= NPCs and thin skins are thin skins. And RL can have a huge effect on how any given person responds to any given thing. I've had to blacklist myself on days when the shit hit the fan around here and I got verbally twitchy/extremely easily annoyed in-game because of it, despite being in the game to try and relax.
  13. It seems to be exactly the type of tab targeting FFXI had, which I started with and quickly got used to, based on visible targets on your screen starting with the closest one and moving left to right across the screen, regardless of distance from the target. When I moved to other games that used different systems, it threw me for a loop for a long time. Of course, that was like ten years ago and coming back to this I'm going @_@, but I expect it'll begin to feel like old hat again soon. That being said, I doubt they'll "fix" it. Though maybe if people are vocal enough. They are doing a lot more listening to player complaints than they have in the past.
  14. Enjoyed the read~ I tried to make an Inara-type, but her training was poor, I guess, 'cause she ended up quitting her job to fall in love with a pirate. Ohho! I never look for the romance. Even the above mentioned "companion" character, while I openly acknowledged the likelihood of feelytimes RP because of her concept, that was her day job, maintained offscreen mostly. But if the romance happens, despite a character's quirks and negative personality traits, I love to follow and see where it goes. It's a great way to learn about a character. But for my part, I try to keep it slow and let the other person set the boundaries of acceptability.
  15. Darien's still a little bit in flux for a few reasons. I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with him, but I'm generally good to just go with the flow. Name: Darien Cadell Type: Antagonist/Villain (not a lot of heroism of any sort in here) Specializations: Wetworks (i.e., a hitman, the bloody stuff, especially taking care of whole groups at a time), thievery (petty theft through grand larceny), dealing in illicit drugs, and generally the things others are just too squeamish to do. Personality: Laid back, casual, curious, narcissistic, greedy, sarcastic, snarky, utterly amoral. Best Suited For: Burning down orphanages, i.e. that stuff that needs to get done but even the usual criminal wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Sending messages -- the kind of crime (murder or theft) that leaves a mess for the general public, but leaves no witnesses of the act itself. Can you kill my character?: No. For now. But taking him down, making him suffer justice, getting close to death without crossing the line, that's generally fine.
  16. I swear I did, too. I managed to buy a code off some guy on the internet (I know, not sketchy at all), but by then I was reaching desperate straits. Turns out that link I put up didn't work so well, in case you tried it. I put up a new one that just goes to the support center. Not that it'll matter, since they're closed all weekend. Way to go Squenix. Cause a problem that requires support center help to be dealt with efficiently, then close the support center for three days.
  17. I somehow managed to add my code to a new account instead of the one I already had. And apparently looots of other people had the same problem. Here's some links if anyone else's having a similar issue: The current massive official forum thread about the problem: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/69267-Lost-free-30-days-for-accidentally-registered-to-the-wrong-service-account The page SE has set up for pushing through tickets for this problem in particular: http://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?id=5382&la=1&kid=68224&ret=main Click through here to get to a Live Chat option (expect long queues and possibly getting to the end and finding no agents): http://support.na.square-enix.com/contacttop.php?id=496&la=1
  18. That, too. If I pick up a second, the first one gets dusty. Doom on dusty characters!
  19. That was when the event was potentially happening pre-launch and people were wondering if their main characters from 1.0 had technically woken up yet from their 5-year vanishment a la Louisoix. No longer relevant~
  20. I plan to keep them all on one but yeah. Not gonna try and push it. The only thing I've considered an alt for so far is two more retainers worth of storage/sales slots. Otherwise, I like the idea of having all my resources in immediate arm's reach.
  21. I'd say I'm never logging off again, but I didn't log off. I crashed while zoning. *sigh* Well, once 3am rolls around the servers might be clear enough to log in. WoW's launch had lots of hilarious bugs (loot lag travelling everywhere kneeling, random places on the ground where you'd just suddenly fall over dead from massive falling damage), but at least we could play. And when we couldn't, there were either queues or maintenance, none of this half-and-half am I going to be able to play or not wondering and continually trying again doubtless making the situation worse. And we had paid time added to our accounts for the days the maintenance used up. Every patch day afterward tended to be bad, but it was almost always tidied up within 36 hours.
  22. P4 should probably have been more than three days, honestly. It would have given them a chance to find and work on more errors with a large population. But it does make one wonder if whoever they've got on contract in Montreal is getting reamed out in Japanese right now.
  23. I've seen the JP servers go down a few times. And been on one when it crashed/was taken down. And while I was on one, the duty finder queue had weird lag issues. So they're not error free. But now I am very sadfase at my character selection screen. I'm tired of playing offserver alts.
  24. OOOOMG thank you for posting that. I was just toodling around the forums trying to figure out what to do for another hour.
