  1. I'm not 100% comfortable with the concept. Like why not just give us all those extras so people who want to RP a dancer don't have to contend with 'but you didn't do the quest' stuff. But I dropped a like on the original post, because I think it should be seen and discussed.
  2. Now that it's relatively easy to pull a rename/Fantasia combo, yay dying, blank slate without needing to reroll, all that jazz! In theory, I'm all for a reasonably achieved character death. In practice, however, I've never really been able to accomplish it. I've disappeared (rumors of my death, yadda yadda) or abandoned many without ever flat out killing one. I guess I like to reserve the right to go back without needing to pull a Lazarus, even if I have no intention of ever using that right.
  3. On second thought, let's not go there. 'Tis a silly place.
  4. These days, usually black peasant-ish stuff and either a capelline with a red flower or blue glasses. She'd wear both, but apparently that's too difficult. As is finding a blue flower for her hat. She'll wear almost anything as long as it's black/blue, and usually does the thigh-highs and leather straps thing if intentionally in public, which is rare.
  5. Qhora takes a side of myself that I hate and extends it into a place that every reasonable person should hate. Both of us are shy, reticent, cynical, capable of being vicious, losing friends faster than we make them. Both of us have someone we rely on but hate that we have to rely on someone. Neither of us mind being alone and find more solace in solitude than company, to a point. We're both perfectly capable of entertaining ourselves almost indefinitely. We both love to travel and did a lot of it as children. She actually still can. I can't anymore. That's where I get my wish fulfillment in her. We share some loss. She's very, very angry. I'm not. At all. She has a lot of violence in her past. I have zero. She has severe mommy issues that make her a raging misogynist. I don't. Mostly. Ha! Aww, I made myself sad. /farnsworth
  6. Sounsyy's got a rep for posting very thoughtful and thorough lore posts in response to various questions. She's not some sort of holy archon of lore glory, but she has earned her reputation by putting in the effort, not from nowhere. Screaming her name in response to a lore question seems like a reasonable thing to do, really. But nay, she is not the only one. I myself went through the 1.0 forums before ARR launch, but I don't have anywhere near the recall/research skills/incentive to be as clear and detailed as I've seen her posts be. I also loved that particular spoilered postmooglish, as it's very close in line to my own character's backstory that I'd developed when ARR was in beta. Was a sort of reassurance that I wasn't so off base.
  7. We get to decide how we feel. Not the person who "made" us feel bad. Us. The people doing the feeling. Someone else may do something that is objectively amoral, or whatever, but they have no capacity to dictate our reactions. Zero. They do a thing. We react to said thing. We choose how to react. We choose. That's pretty much the end of it. However, I'm a basketcase for a lot of thoroughly external reasons to the game, so my feelings are all over the place, regardless of what I would like or what's best for me. I'm still trying to decide how much distance I need to remain mostly content, nevermind happy. So far, it's quite a lot of distance, but I'm playing the game again, which is nice.
  8. I'd smile awkwardly. She'd glare. We'd both continue on as if nothing ever happened and constantly avoid each other from that moment on.
  9. I did trial roulette recently for the first time in a long time and got The Chrysalis, actually. What? I forgot that was even a thing. It was also a nightmare that used up the entire time allotted without completion. I do believe I will also avoid trial roulettes for the future again. Eesh.
  10. I'm going to be playing DRK, because I play all the classes. I love levelling the things, so I'll do it eventually without doubt. I've taken on a teeny bit of the 'jack of all trades' idea into Qhora, with the idea that she's gone to everyone (NPCs, classes not jobs) willing to teach a thing and asked 'what can I pay you teach me that I can learn with relatively little effort'. I've scaled that back the more I play her, figuring she specializes as she comes into her own. That being said, I can't see her touching a greatsword with a ten foot pole IC. Unwieldy, for style only, a style that doesn't suit her at all, nahhh. Not gonna do it. She might tinker with a few things from whoever's teaching machinist. She might learn how to read a few star maps from astrologians. But the greatsword, she'll probably just look at and say 'no, thanks'. She might be an emo emo kid with emo hair and emo rage, but DRK's just not my style of tea, nor hers. No big. Now if they did scythes, and she could use it for farming vast swathes of broombrush as well... That's a different kettle of tea.
  11. Ahahaha.... No. Show her your "physique" and get it cut off. In an attempt to be a bit more contribute-y, I don't think body matters to her anywhere near as much as brains do. The right mind in any kind of body would suffice, yes, even potato.
  12. From someone who roleplayed with someone named Fhqwhgads, don't sweat it. I'd never have assumed your character was named after Naruto unless he did some weird sexy jutsu stuff. People who automatically assume he is are probably the kind of ludicrously overly critical that you might not want to befriend anyway. His name's perfectly in line with the conventions, including one of the family names the generator gives out. My character's not from the Southern Water Tribe.
  13. #angry bandit w/ severe mommy issues
  14. If you're still looking, it is not.
  15. An issue wherein, in the time between completing the quests "So You Want to Be a Jockey" and "So You Think You Can Ride This Chocobo", the NPC Tataru, who should not normally be there, appears in the Arcanists' Guild in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks. Was it that one?
  16. How "good" or not I think this batch of story is will depend entirely on who ultimately survives. The more perma-death, the more consequences, the more changes, the better in my book. Give us something to recuperate from. But I can see almost everyone except Adeledji living through it. If the Sultana survives, which is plausible if she pulled a Romeo&Juliet type poison, I think, and did it to herself, which I expected of her from her whole "prayer to the Sultantree, take this cup from me" thing, then she's proved herself wonderfully devious and manipulative, and still leaves significant consequences, but... what a build up to soften with the smothering fluff of 'look who's baaack'. Cue Raubahn's magitek arm. I can't remember exactly why, haven't gone back through anything, but my vague recollections tell me Ilberd's status as good guy was questionable from the get-go. They'd set him up as the hero in one scene, and in the next he'd be speaking quietly to someone suspiciously. His flip was an absolute no-brainer, so I was kind of "yawn, next" about that whole deal. I'm still laughing about "Bribery Consortium." That's brilliant! Alphinaud just made me want to scream and what did you expect to happen, silly boy, but he's supposed to be a kid, so he has that benefit of the doubt from me. Otherwise, I'd be more unrepentantly disappointed in his immediate drop to emo status. I'm hoping Lolorito and Urianger will have some interesting stuff to come, because otherwise what a waste of Cam Clarke and Gideon Emery. Ha! That's what's really sustaining me to see what comes next. Bring on the bad guys! Tell me what went wrong with their plans. Tell me if it's just communication or actual hand in the bad pie. Tellll meeeee. All my eggs are in their baskets. I have been destroyed by a game's story before (what Mass Effect 3 did to companion characters had me bawling like a baby, oh my god Moooordinnnn, we will not speak of the rest), but this time, not so much. I'm having such a hard time believing any of it will be permanent. Fingers crossed. Waiting to see. I might have a delayed melting of my hardened heart depending on what develops from here. Or my cynicism might be bolstered to the point that not a single character in this whole story matters because they've all got more plot armor than God.
  17. The Brass Blades milling about in the street have probably made Qhora more brazen than she would usually be - suddenly feeling like she can sit closer to the fireplace rather than in the darkest part of the bar. There's a certain reliability to people who work for the highest bidder, and now those reliable folks are just everywhere in town. But generally, other than being grandly amused by the rumors and very curious to find out where the rumors will go and what, if any, truths will come out of them, she's probably not affected much at all. Life goes on. She might be looking into Ishgard now, though. While she likely passed on everything that went on at the Steps of Faith, she's probably made the connection that it had something to do with the Brass Blades' increased presence before the kerfuffle and is now curious enough to jump on the excuse to travel when the time comes.
  18. Qhora would spend too much time laughing her ass off to get anything done, at least with this latest installment. Probably most of the earlier story, she would've been better at acting as the relatively dutiful mercenary, if a little yawning over the fawning accusations of her being a superhero. But this latest batch... she'd be out of breath from the laughing, and being like, "No, please, give me the credit. This is too good. All my fault. Yes, indeed. Been machinating it for months. What are you going to do about it?" Then probably go "request" payment from some Syndicate people for not at least giving her warning, or collecting payment because actually they gave her warning. And all the after-events, she'd be hiding giggles behind her hands while all her rescuers acted all serious. Then straight up aetheryte back to Ul'dah for more laughs. I like to assume that the MSQ stuff happens to somebody else, but there's no way Qhora could do it, really. She'd either be "eff this" once it got into the realm of please help we need help, rather than for her own benefit. Or, you know, she'd straight up offer to poison the Raisin Queen. For gil, of course.
  19. Like this thread. Saves me going around to every NPC myself. Based on this (http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Brass_Blades) and the obvious, the Brass Blades are just the Syndicate's version of security forces/militia within Ul'dah. While probably not inherently evil in and of themselves, their bosses certainly are. The idea that they were given more power in Ul'dah during the Ishgard kerfuffle is scary in itself. Don't suppose anyone had been to visit Hunberct before maintenance?
  20. This was so yawn to heal when I did it in Dungeon Finder, I could have/should have spent the entire time in Cleric stance. If the tanks/cannon handlers already know the fight, I believe you could solo heal it easily. Good luck!
  21. Qhora stopped mid-stride and stared as the bloodied, swollen lalafell woman tripped in through the city gates. Everyone else was staring. At least everyone who wasn't trying to help. Staring seemed like the thing to do. Qhora's focus went to the panicking woman's belly. She sighed to herself, muttering under her breath something about "the world that does that to you." She waved a hand dismissively and slipped into the shadows. Not much later, Qhora found herself walking down the road to Crescent Cove, fishing rod lazily balanced over one shoulder, when she came upon the scene of the incident. She stopped to watch among a small crowd that had gathered as investigators were making the first attempts to clear the scene. As the past violence became more and more clear, Qhora slowly grinned, then burst out laughing. One of the investigators, his expression pale, looked up at her, and several of her loitering partners took steps to back away from her. She shrugged, then turned to continue down the road, whistling out of tune.
  22. After having a lousy day, I thought healing a roulette would calm me down. It usually does. Keeper of the Lake, done this a hojillion times, prepared for relaxation mode. Final Witness all 130 tank has me targeted for 5 minutes before starting. O... kay? First pull, whatever, oddly squishy, have to push healing, can't help damage. Second pull, all of the things, okay, tank stands in all the AoEs at the same time and tanks with her butt so no parrying autoattacks. Six lustrates in sequence can't keep up with the damage. I... What just happened? We raise, tank runs off, aetherflow's still on cooldown from my just having chewed through it. I swiftcast the fairy. Tank pulls all the things, stands in all the bad, I have no time to cast a thing, I let the DPS go down because I'm in shock, even though they were slightly tougher than the tank somehow. The tank says "we can just keep dying until the healer gets in gear." Uhh... I laughed a completely lunatic crazy laugh, said "okay bye" and left. I've.. healed some questionable pug tanks and never had a tank take so much damage, let alone one that's actually geared out. Lousy day now so much worse. I feel like I suck and the world is full of crazies, and I better hide somewhere as deep and dark as possible. Oh FFXIV. When you're bad, you're really really bad.
