That seems more like a deliberate tease than trying to hide it. -

Aww. I'll have to wait two months to get the rent-boy outfit? And then another month for a really creepy mount. Assuming that's not just for those that stuck around in 1.0. -

In P3, I made several. I imagine they already have systems in place for people that have too many characters that downgrade their subscription plan to the base level. You'll probably just be left either with the first one you created, or they'll let you choose which to be your one. -
I only stuck around for about a week, so... I couldn't have gotten very many levels. I mostly created characters, played them for a bit, and then logged off. I have a habit of doing that since CoH, on any game with at least a minor bit of customization. Now that I've done that to death with the character creator, I shouldn't feel the need to do so. Yay for that, I suppose.

The art of Distraction: Keeping yourself busy till phase 4
Raccoon replied to Felix Sideris's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Let's see... Anime is keeping me distracted even though there's not a whole lot that's captivating me this season (Majestic Prince, Free!, A Certain Scientific Railgun, etc). I've been puttering about on Marvel Heroes since it's f2p and it's got Rocket Raccoon. Honestly, it's about like Minesweeper in my mind. Something to fiddle with between other things or when those other things are getting boring. I've been half-heartedly puttering around in the Shadowrun Returns editor. Pretty much just seeing what it can do right now rather than actively trying to make anything. Oh, and still puttering around on Champions Online, though it keeps driving me off to do other things on account of being all stale and uneventful. Hm... a lot of puttering in hindsight. -
I honestly haven't played any FF game past ten. I barely made it through FFX and couldn't work up the drive to play any of the others. It just seemed as if they had lost whatever made them fun from prior to VII, or I'd gotten tired of it -- one or the other. So... since I pretty much only know the character by her name and frequent mentions on the internets, I'm in the "meh go with the flow" category.

I'm desperately hoping that the Magitek Armor mounts are cheap and/or easy to get with relatively limited play. Otherwise I fear that FreelanceWizard will sacrifice me to heathen gods in the hopes of increasing the chances to have one drop.

I think I saw somewhere that half-breeds are sterile too. Not really relevant to playing one, but forget actually RPing family situations one day. On an off-topic side note, you'll want to be sure you treat your character as your character, not as an extension of yourself. You kept saying "my father" and such. Referring to the character's family as "his/her family" is the first step to distancing yourself from your character and all the potential drama that may arise in his/her life.

Two of the same card tends to be better, in my experience, but only if the game actually supports SLI or... Crossfire, I think, is the other one. Even when they claim to, I've found a lot of MMOs don't do it very well. When I upgraded, I went for a single GPU in order to avoid the headaches, from 2x 295 GTX to a single 680 GTX. Price will probably be a big factor too. It's probably a lot cheaper, with easier to find deals, on a pair of good cards that have been around a while rather than going for the latest and greatest. That also leaves you money to purchase some more RAM, if your motherboard/OS can handle it.

I'm never very good at coming up with music for my characters, but I'll give it a shot. Deitrych:

I had to dig to find my authenticator. I was half-convinced I'd thrown it away in my annoyance at 1.0. Guess it's a good thing I have a drawer dedicated to potentially useless game-related physical items. Among the game manuals and other such things is Darth what's-his-face from the SW:TOR collector's edition, a mouse pad with a gel-filled armrest in the shape of the character's breasts from some JRPG, and so on.
-
Hm, favorites. I don't really do favorites. I spread my love equally over multiple characters. I like the bigger ones for most reasons people state: Iron Man, Spider-Man, Deadpool, and so on. But I also like the lesser known sorts. Rocket Raccoon. A procyonid carrying unfeasibly large weapons into battle? What's not to love. Then there's Darkhawk who never had that great of a run, but I still loved him regardless. The more recent events in Annihilation rekindled it, though I'm tempted to go kill the writer of Avengers Arena if he intends to kill off Chris. I'm way more fond of manga and anime, of course. No characters are really jumping up for attention at the moment though.

Characters in media that influence/are similar to your character!
Raccoon replied to Orlog's topic in RP Discussion
All of my characters come out of my own head, which I can't claim aren't influenced by other characters and themes, but I don't draw a parallel to them until after I'm done putting them together. Zirn, for instance, has a sort of Jayne feel from Firefly. Deitrych makes me think of the classic silent protagonists like Ryu from Breath of Fire and such, of course. -
Zirn lives in a moderately sized, several room apartment on the water, near the shipbuilding guild in Limsa Lominsa. Zirn appears to be a weapons aficionado from the looks of things. He has what looks to be a broad variety of just about every weapon conceived, from a tiny stiletto to a massive two-handed warhammer. From their haphazard display, it is a wonder he does not stab himself or sever something important just by moving around the place. They do look spotless, however, as if he polishes them regularly. Near the bed, he has a board set up on one wall with a number of wanted posters. On it is a mixture of various individuals, with the most prominent being that of Captain Swarzoeng, arrayed in a similar way as to how normal people might display portraits of their friends and loved ones. Other than these details, the apartment is only sparsely furnished. The bed is lackluster and frankly looks rather uncomfortable. A single chair and a small table, which surprisingly -- when compared to the rest of the apartment -- holds only a single ax, adorn the center of the bedroom. It has the look of a place he spends little time. Deitrych will have only recently moved into a low-rent apartment just down a back alley from the marketplace, run by a kindly (until rent is due) Lalafell landlady. Due to having only just moved it and having no real possessions of his own, it is bare except for the necessities that come with every room. A bed, a small multipurpose table, a set of chairs, and so on. He seems in no hurry to personalize the apartment either.

100 Questions to Ask About Your Role-Playing Character
Raccoon replied to Vash's topic in Character Workshop
((Aaand my other character. The good guy this time.)) The diminutive Lalafell looks up at the weary traveler, leaning on a spear as if it is a walking stick. The Hyur, a Midlander by the look of him, had arrived early this morning and indicated, through gestures and a single spoken word, that he would like to rent one of the landlady's apartments. The potential renter nodded along to all the guidelines she would be enforcing and proved that he could handle the initial deposit. The landlady then hands over a questionnaire. “I usually just ask the questions, but here I'm thinking that might be difficult for you. Just fill that out so I can get an idea of you, and decide if you're a good match, yeah?” The man stares at her for a moment before lightly shrugging his shoulders, accepting both the sheets of paper and a quill, before taking a seat in the lobby to get to work. -

Just two more hours to go. -
Dietrych Brownlowe Pre-Cataclysm: For those passing through the farming village of Brownlowe, he was probably just a face in the crowd, slightly cleaner and slightly better dressed than the farmers one might have passed. Post-Cataclysm: In the recent aftermath of the Cataclysm, anyone who survived it may have encountered him as he wandered about, helping those who needed it and pointing the way to safety, but never speaking. If not, you may have heard a dozen or so separate accounts of his actions from the survivors, that he simply rescued them from whatever harm had befallen them and pointed them toward safety, sometimes even sharing what food and water he had with him to help them on their way, but nothing more than that. You may also have heard further counts of heroic actions in the wilder parts of the continent, with no accounts being anywhere near what could amount to civilization, in the five years since the cataclysm. You may even have heard of his moniker as the "silent knight". Zirnansa Swarzoeng Pre-Cataclysm: If you were around between 20-30 years ago, anyone passing through a Sea Wolf fishing village may have heard of a child with that first name, likely with some mention of him being worthless and always gone when there was work to be done. If you were around 20 years ago, you may have heard that Captain Swarzoeng of the Blacktongue Pirates had taken in a ten year old Roegadyn child. By approximately 5 years later, he had already gotten his name on a wanted poster. Cataclysm/Post-Cataclysm: The Blacktongues managed to ride out the worst of the Cataclysm by being out at sea. This put them in a prime position to resume raiding against a people that had practically no means to defend themselves. This naturally made them evil in the eyes of just about everyone and prime targets. Though they were eventually either killed outright or captured and hanged, he will have managed to survive. But by keeping his chosen surname, anyone who has ever been harmed by the Blacktongues, or perhaps anyone who hates pirates in general, will undoubtedly spot the connection. He has since taken up residence in Limsa Lominsa, believing himself to be under the radar in respect to the Admiral and her Knights. They are merely waiting to see if he falls back on old habits, possibly hoping to snare him along with a new band of pirates. Anyone with a residence down by the water, or near the shipbuilding guild, will likely have encountered him. You are likely to spot him in taverns, often late in the day, lamenting over trying his best but failing. He also frequents the city's brothels, though if you know him from there, well... he won't judge, at least.

100 Questions to Ask About Your Role-Playing Character
Raccoon replied to Vash's topic in Character Workshop
((I went for my darker character first, just at random. So bear that in mind while reading.)) An almost black-skinned Roegadyn steps into the room, wearing only a pair of tattered trunks and some sandals. He casts his eyes around the dark room a moment and then sits gingerly in the chair that seems to have been designed for the smaller Hyur. "I'm here," he states in his quiet rumble, propping his elbows on the edge of the table as he leans forward, peering into the dark at the featureless figure cast in shadows. "I don't know your game. But let's begin." -
I'm 32. I've been RPing in-game or in forums since I was 8-10 years old. I was drawn into the RP-only Dragonrealms MUD in the GEnie/Prodigy days, and frequented the message boards that made up the internet in those days, writing stories and RPing in those dedicated to stuff like Dragonriders of Pern and Xanth. From there it's probably unsurprising that I went on to tabletops and graphical MMOs. I've never had any formal training. I did take a writing class in high school but it seemed like a wasted effort. We were either expected to write poetry (which I despise) or we just ended up writing stuff endlessly to be critiqued by the teacher who never actually seemed to teach us anything. Meh, wasted a semester there. Of course, my writing has evolved over time through interactions with others and the development of my mental maturity. I still have some of my old stories, some of which make me cringe, while others surprise me that I was that inventive.

Alas, I live in the South where it's hot as hell even in winter. So whenever anyone takes a picture of me, I'm always in one state of undress or another. I'll keep an eye out for any pictures of me fully clothed.

Item Name Drop Chance

A Curious Book 100%

A Tattered List 50%

1-10 Gil 5%

Congratulations, you've slain a small, unassuming Lalafell. Strangely, despite stabbing him repeatedly and hearing him cry out in agony, he never actually bled until you chopped off his head. As you loot his corpse, you discover why... A Curious Book - Out of the many books stuffed into the pockets inside his robe, which served as the peculiar armor that protected him from most of your attacks, one has managed to survive relatively unscathed. A quick perusal of its contents reveals it to be a steamy novel. Oh, and there are illustrations as well... oh. Oh no. That's just wrong on so many levels. Toss it away quick and wash your hands in that nearby stream. Unless you want to try to sell it. But do you really want to carry that thing around? A Tattered List - This list seems to detail a number of names, locations, and strange titles. You can only assume that the ones that are crossed out are the names of those he was carrying around inside his robes. Judging by the numbers next to each one, you can only assume that they were collector's items of a sort. Who would pay that much for a disgusting book like that? The Gil - Perhaps he was on his way back home after purchasing his latest find? It will not even begin to cover the booze you will need to erase the memory of that illustration from your mind. Good luck.

I'm a refugee from Virtue as well. Just saying "peeps" is too easy. As for the quirks, I'll have to ponder it. It can't be so horrifying that no one will ever RP with me again, yet it can't be so tame that just anybody could pull it off. A nice balance is required. Fortunately, FW is still willing to be my friend despite a few that were a little too much.

I. Basic Info Characters: Here Primary character: (Watch this space) Linkshells: Mysterium Primary RP linkshell: Mysterium II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy. That isn't to say that I don't like OOC banter. I can enjoy it on the side, so long as it doesn't overwhelm the chat window in (( ))s. I expect local and team conversations to be in IC, with any OOC conversations being to the point and marked appropriately, or in another window/channel. Views on RP combat and injuries: I'm fine with it so long as the other person realizes that there will be IC consequences to their actions. I prefer these things to be talked about in advance, so I know exactly what they intend to do to my character. I'm fine with anything up to and including the death of the character, so long as there is a sufficient reason for it, and that they accept a possibly equal repercussion in the future. I would rather settle things through a written scene, or possibly through the rolling of dice to add an element of chance. I do not like dealing with things through duels since I'm rarely equipped for it, and I'm rarely skilled at it. Views on IC romance: I have been known to engage in IC relationships, but I'm not sure you could call most of them romance. I'm fine with both fade to black or writing out scenes, though it all depends on my mood and whether I feel it actually has a point -- rather than the other person just wanting to write out a naughty scene for their personal gratification. I can write just about anything, both thick-skinned and open-minded enough to handle it. Heterosexual, homosexual, and even odd or uncomfortable pairings are all fine. I can even do rape and/or torture, but the above still applies. It's got to mean something. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Any ties with my character should be developed through IC interactions. I don't like starting with characters already tied together since there's an inherent awkwardness to it, even when your significant other is playing the other one. There is simply always going to be something that the other isn't going to know that they should, having grown up with or otherwise been together with your character for some time. Views on lore: I can overlook plenty of things. I may mock your character OOC if they happen to be a vampire/dragon/angel/demon hybrid, but so long as you stick to the lore, my character will go on about things as normal. They may think your character is completely nuts for believing such a thing, but still. I can't expect everyone to stick to the lore like glue, of course. I'm sure I'll make mistakes, and I fully expect people to correct me OOC when it seems like I'm deviating too much. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I expect most "local" chat to be IC unless signified by parentheses or another indicator. Tells too. Hm, just to be on the safe side, if you want to talk to me OOC when you're not sure, just use parentheses to start, eh? III. Other Info Country: US Timezone: EST Contact info: PM me here for now. I might pass on my other contact info if I feel the need. [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]

I'm one of your most recent new arrivals. I was around for 1.0 but only really stuck around for a week, despite having bought the Collector's Edition and all. More money than sense and little enough of either. But I've returned since ARR looks to be doing things right this time around (in my not-so-humble opinion), enough that I plan to RP this time around. MMORPG background - I started out on MUDs and the like, with my longest running one being Dragonrealms. From there I went on to the graphical sorts: Everquest, Earth & Beyond, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, SW:TOR, The Secret World, and so on. Just to name a few. Honestly, I've probably played practically every MMO that's come out, though rarely did I stick around for very long. City of Heroes was the only one to hold my attention for, what was it, eight years? (Stupid NCSoft) RP experience - I RPed in just about every MUD and MMO I joined, though whether I stuck with it was dependent on how strong the community was. I'm a joiner, not a starter. I also did a lot of pen-and-paper RPGs, but I needed some hand-holding since I've never really been able to wrap my head around some of the more complex systems, like Exalted. And the math, gah. Character ideas/info - I'm still quibbling on my character(s). It's not a lack of ideas, but rather too many. I'm an incurable altoholic, but I want to try to focus on one or two characters to start. That's the plan anyway, no idea how long it will last. The two strongest contenders at the moment are a Roegadyn partially reformed pirate and a Lalafell scholar pursuing an... unusual line of study. I should probably mention that I enjoy giving my characters amusing and/or horrifying quirks. How did you learn about the coalition? - I'd poked at it around 1.0, and a couple times since, but Freelance Wizard steered me this way again. I've only just now registered, however. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? - Heavy. While I'm not against OOC banter, I like it to be in its own channel or window, with the emphasis on the RP. When the (()) overwhelms the RP, I can get annoyed. Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) - Well, I'm a gamer, obviously. Between Steam and Gamefly, I have distractions galore. Various other shinies range from books on the Kindle to comic books. I also have my four-legged demon offspring, named Chaos, to tend to. If I go too long without paying him attention or feeding him, I will suffer for it.
