Yeah, but I have eight 1.0 characters, which are taking up all my slots on the server and they will be there again, I'd imagine, for Phase 4.
-
I just realized all my character slots on Balmung are taken. I was planning to start a new character on Phase 4 Launch, hopefully before it fills up, but I have to figure out if I can delete an old character first. Anyone else have this issue? I may have to wait all the wait till official launch or something before I can start my new character. GAH! Sorry, figured it out. "Right-Click" to delete. Hopefully that will work on launch day too.

Yeah, I think I just have this fear of seeing a bunch of Lightning clones running around and hearing newer role-players use this as an excuse to bring in characters from other universes. While I certainly have no control over any of this and what people do within the game is none of my business, I'll just have to try and turn a blind eye to it like I have to with other elements. It's purely a case of my image of what I thought the game would be from a strict RP perspective compared to the more casual FF melting-pot angle they seem to be going for. I'll likely play the mission(s) from a gamer perspective, but likely not from an RP perspective.

There are actually quite a few people from 1.0 that are starting over with a new character. Also not all people from 1.0 got to 50. I only got to 20. So I think there will be a mix of new and old players leveling from the start.

I'm with Aysun on this one. You know people are going to take this angle and just go crazy with it. Now we'll have people from Azeroth, A galaxy far far away, and people carrying a special ring... Love it! :frustrated: I'll be honest, this angle kinda is a big turn off for me. My enthusiasm has dwindled a lot this week between this and the server squabble.

That's... interesting. While I always hoped we would get "sexier" outfits like we see in the single-player FFs, I didn't want them to copy them right from the past games. I'd rather ARR build its own identity without becoming an FF melting pot of all the past games. I hope this doesn't become a constant thing. And if Lightning is in the game, I hope she's a Lightning from Eorzea and not from "another universe". Though... I would LOVE to have something like Serah's first game outfit. >.>

Wait, how do you know this? Is there another survey or something that I'm not aware of? (Also something being less popular is a really poor reason to prefer something, just sayin') He may be referring to this? http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=census-2013

Even though I played 1.0, I didn't get that far or super involved in the community at that time. However, for ARR, and even though I'm going to roll a new character, I'm still planning to stick to Balmung (barring an official RP server is released). I actually appreciate its RP history and I think it will likely have a higher role-player population.

linkshell interest guage - repeatable content as IC canon...
Averis replied to Imsey's topic in RP Discussion
I think the idea of playing dungeons and end-game content IC is interesting. I really never got that deep into end-game type RP before. It would be nice to know how all LS's handle this kind of aspect of the game. So props for making this something you planned into the LS from the start. -
Wow, I knew Male Miqo'te were popular, but they are almost 25% at this point. I picked Female Hyur (Midlander to be specific) as that will likely be my main. I may add a Female Miqo'te down the road, but I want to try to stick to one character.

Like others have said, everyone has their own take on role-play, but it is healthy to be able to take a step back and realize that at the end of the day we all are here for the same thing. This is why LS/FC are a great way to find a group that meshes with you the best, and when you mingle with others you can try to go with the flow or learn whom to avoid. No one should be forced to play together if it just causes each side frustration, but that should also not mean that we can't stick together in the grand scheme of things. We are a small community in general, playing on servers filled with non-role-players. I would like to think that when push comes to shove we'd have each others back. As for my role-play mentality, Life has its ups and downs, and I'd like to think that for most people their life is on average pleasant enough, but sometimes has spikes of bad events. I think that kind of balance in role-play makes the most sense. Any person or character that has to deal with constant bad events would probably become extremely depressed or worse. For me, I don't really go into role-play with an expectation of how things will turn out. Like life, I hope for the best and try to setup my character to be determined enough to strive for a good result in their life. But as I play I just take things as they come, just like I do in life. You can't prepare for everything and sometimes "crap happens". It's interesting to try and figure out how your character would react and change. I don't usually plot out a story for my character (except for their background) as I rather "live" in the game-world. I think this method has helped me be able to get along with most role-players over the years. As long as they aren't godmodding, metagaming or breaking the lore etc, I usually get along. My characters usually have had some amount of traumatic event in their background as a catalyst to get them out into the world. I usually setup their personality to be optimistic and easy-going. I think that helps balance out those that like to play the more rambunctious and shifty characters.

Congrats (again) for being awesome twice!
-
Should we break out the wine then?
-
I thought we cleared this up... 1) That's just the nature of the internet. There are really no other RP sites for FFXIV, so naturally this is the one that comes up, and thus the one people will go to. 2) To be fair, Balmung (then Besaid) was voted on, just like this poll here, by the community at the time. So to say this is what "he" wanted is a bit "unfair", as you put it.

The words "elitist" and "noob" get thrown around way to easily in the gaming community. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and realize that it's a game and we're supposed to be having fun. We're all in this together! Let's laugh, let's play, let's hug and let's sing. We all come from different backgrounds, experiences and desires, but we're all here to game and role-play! Sometimes we need to poke fun at ourselves to realize that it's not really as serious at it starts to feel after so many defensive and aggressive words are flung around.

Yes, I actually didn't mention that I also pre-ordered the ARR CE as well. So I have both. I'll just get in line for the firing.
-
Yeah, I totally agree. In fact, as a 1.0 player with a CE I think I'm going to cancel my account to make room for all the new players so they can play without worrying about me being around to ruin their fun. I mean, I only wanted to role-play with people, but I can't in good conscience play with them knowing that I have so many unfair advantages and played 1.0 for a month or so. Even though I was actually going to make a new character and start over myself since my 1.0 character was only 20, I think this is the best course of action. :frustrated:
-
Yeah, it's getting kinda tiring to constantly be viewed as an elitist for having played 1.0. I for one didn't even play 1.0 for that long. I'm practically as new as the next guy, but I'd still like to keep the community as tight-knit as possible. As "pie in the sky" as that seems to be. Yet so many seem to want to go their own way and yell at us while they do it because we want to play together. When the game comes out (finally) I'll play with whomever is around, new or old as it doesn't matter to me.
-
Ah, I found your intro post! Hey! Welcome to the site! It's great to see you here! It would be great to have you play with us. I know all too well what it's like to be torn between a couple MMOs. I narrowed it down to ARR simple because I got tired of the F2P setup that's becoming so common now. Hopefully, since SE is privately owned, they won't need to go that route too. But anyway, hopefully we'll see you in-game soon!
-
Hey! Fancy meeting you here! Yup, yup, I've been lurking these halls, giving people a hard time. Haha. Might I see you in ARR or are you just passing through?
-
Bringing up the support we've given for the past three years isn't going to help the image that new players are already getting of the existing community. To echo what Momoni said about Impact vs. Intent, the impact left behind by bringing that up in this context is not a palatable one; even to someone like me who was around (not so much on the RPC though) to support this game. Fair would be adhering to the RPCs purpose. Giving all the RPers, new and old, a place to commune, discuss and be whole - even when that's not possible in game. Note that the banner on this page is "Hydaelyn" Roleplayers. While Balmung is where it started, things are changing now with 2.0 ARR - perhaps the RPC should as well. There has to be some limits to it otherwise there will be a section for every server when another new player joins and says "My friends and I are role-playing on server X. Can we have a section too?" There should be some kind of minimum, a measure of when a server warrants that kind of support.

I do my best to not cause strife in my posts, but I'll likely make many faux pas because I'm an imperfect human. It's hard to always predict how people will take what your write.
-
Haha, yes, that's me. I have a lot of sympathy for anyone that runs these kind of communities. I swear that I lost a couple years of my life running ARP during its peak. So many groups and people pulling you in every direction. You try your best, but you can never win. We (usually) start these communities because we want to create a welcoming gathering place for our fellows, but it so quickly seems to turn into a war no matter what you do and you become enemy #1. :frustrated: Remember, they don't get paid for this and rarely to they ever get a "thank you". You may not agree with their decisions, but they are people too.
-
Sorry, I (again) edited my last post. >.< You guys reply fast and I'm an edit-holic. Anyway, as for your last post, I have no say in what the admin/mods do here. So that's up to them. But personally I support trying to keep things organized. This is why having polls is usually the best way to go. It gives everyone a chance to have their say. If only 10 people play on a server, it does seem a bit silly (to me) to have a section for them. It's not elitism, it's just a numbers game. Majority rule and all that. I also ran an RP community for Aion and this was a major topic there as well.
-
I edited my last reply, if you'd like to read it. I didn't know saying something seemed rude was a "punch". If you took it as such then I apologize. But as Kylin said, this has been going on for a while so it has become a bit frustrating. Each time I hear it, it just adds to the frustration. So it was probably more of a reply to all the previous similar requests than just your one. As for the "special" part, that was really in general, not to you. I mean that in general when I look for a server I don't think that "I'M" special. I didn't mean to imply that you do.
