  1. Well, I don't want to get into an argument over this (again). I do want to clarify that I personally never even said that this community was the ONLY RP community that should and could ever exist in FFXIV. There was actually a second FFXIV RP forum for a while. But as it stand right now, this is probably the largest forum for it. That doesn't mean there can't be others. You are more than welcome to do what you want. I in no way shape or form think that I'm better than you or anyone. It's not my goal at all to stop anyone from playing elsewhere. I am only giving my view in regards to THIS community, which is also free to make its own decisions. If you want to start something new, go for it! It's funny you say that, since I'm actually just about as new as you here. I don't have any friends already established in this community. I barely played 1.0. I'd be just as open to RP with you as anyone else here. If I met your character in game, I'd likely assume that you've been around longer than me. I really would have no idea. Like I said in a previous post, my only motivation is to simply keep the small role-play community (in this forum or not) as least spread out as possible so that we can all have fun together. It's really just that simple. I have no other motives than that. I'd like to have a lot of new players to play with too, since I'm pretty much one as well.
  2. I probably come off sounding more angsty about this than I mean to. At the end of the day I would rather everyone be happy than not. So I'm all for people to do what they want. I'm actually very much a "live and let live" kinda person (believe it or not). I'm just giving my view on it, is all. My motives are simply that I'd wish we could all just be a happy "family", as I see role-players as a very small group amongst a very large gaming community. And thus I think we should stick together. As for the server thing, sure, I really don't know what is going to happen. I'd like an official RP server too, but I don't think it will necessarily simplify things. If it's a new non-legacy server then all the legacy characters will be stuck for a while until they let them move. The community here would be split just the same, I think. It's not really a simple matter to resolve.
  3. I still really don't get this. In all my years of role-playing in MMOs I've never really witnessed such a desire to spread the already small role-play community about. To me this is just new role-players that want to do their own thing because for some reason they think the old players will try to rule over them and tell them what to do. Even though, as others have pointed out, it's likely the new players will outnumber the old role-players anyway. They are certainly free to do what they want, but this community already voted on a server long ago. To come here now and ask for a change is fairly rude. And for what purpose? While I can maybe see reasons for a second, non-legacy server, we do NOT need four. That's absolutely ridiculous and unneeded. A server is a server. While they may be nice and clean when new, in a few months they will all basically be the same, except that the population will have diluted even more and those that went to strike out on a new server with an even smaller group of role-players will likely find that they are very much alone. As for already having friends on these servers, if they met during the beta, which is going to be wiped anyway, and they want to role-play, why can't they agree to all start on an unofficial RP server when the real game starts? Why should the majority conform to the minority? If they want to strike it out on their own, more power to them, but this community has already established itself and everyone is more than welcome to join. If not... well, we hope you have fun wherever you are. Every time I decide to play an MMO and I want to role-play in it, I look for where the role-players are and I go there. I don't ask them to change their server choice on my account or suggest that they support one that I just happened to randomly start in and am too lazy to move from. I'm not special and I want to be where the best opportunities for role-play will be now and, hopefully, years to come. To me it's like this: You want to go to a Star Trek convention because you like Star Trek. There's an annual convention coming up that's been going on for years and is really popular. However, new fans now are asking for a second, third and forth convention to be opened next door so they can be first in line yet they want to have all the same merchandise tables and guest speakers that are at the regular convention hall. Anyway, people can go where they want, of course, and no one here wants to stop them. But to ask for support for all these offshoots is just ridiculous to me. We already have a server and we'll soon maybe have a second. That's all we need. I highly doubt this. I've never seen an already established server change tags later on in an MMO. The RP community is a minority on Balmung as is. Why would they change the tag and piss off and confuse all the normal players there? Imagine the vitriol and toxicity to the RP community then when the normal players get their server tag changed? For our sake I hope they don't change the tag so we can RP in some amount of peace. Given that the server transfers are coming to an end soon, I'm starting to think we won't see an RP server at this point. It would just add more confusion at this point. It's basically too late.
  4. Very true. I remember to this day all the crap I got as a WHM in XI because so often the tank charged in before everyone was ready and blamed me for not healing through it. I felt very much abused as a main healer and since then I never touched a similar class again. I'm thinking of trying healer classes again this time, but I hope to not come into the same type of toxic situation. In RP I've seen my share of very dramatic arguments over a variety of things. I've yet to get into an argument over RP, but I've seen how some people can really get bent out of shape over things. It would be nice if we could all "just get along", but I think part of human nature is to often feel that you are the odd man out. I think a lot of people take the defensive posture too easily online since we are missing that face to face interaction. It's like missing a part of the whole image. We take a lot of information from a persons face when we communicate, so lacking that tend to naturally defend ourselves when online, which can cause a lot of misunderstandings.
  5. Hehe, they are pretty cool. Though, actually the green eye is not right. It doesn't have the reflective properties of his blue eye. He has a tendency to wink sometimes. But he doesn't run into stuff at least. That's what I've been told. I don't know if he's mixed at all, though. The folks we got him from didn't seem to know much about him.
  6. Welcome! If you're new to role-play, this might be a good thread to check out: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Don't worry about asking questions or feeling shy. I'm still learning myself after many years at it, but that's the fun thing about it. It helps add another layer to the game and when the questing is over and the dungeons beaten, you still have this sense of a living world and your character. If you get that into it, that is.
  7. I'm actually under the impression that Arcanist might not be in P4. If not I'll probably start as a conjurer.

    Phase 4

That'd be my guess. Then they could spend another couple weeks to prep for EA and then launch. I guess EA would be at most a week, but probably just a weekend before launch.

    Phase 4

I think the best you can get is an educated guess from the roadmap PDF, which seems to have been updated. http://gdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/download/en/FFXIV_2.0_BETA_Roadmap_EN.pdf Due to the launch date and Early Access, I'm personally assuming it will be in August even though that doesn't really fit the roadmap exactly. Otherwise, if it's sometime in July then they must be planning a long break between P4 and Early Access/Launch, which is not out of the realm.
  10. Haha, actually I don't like country music either, but I'm not going to argue with your attitude. That's why I'm done. The rest of your remarks couldn't be more off the mark in my case, but keep on making assumptions, I'm sure you'll make a lot of new friends that way on your new server.
  11. Um... wow. Okay... I'm done.
  12. I'm also 36, but I don't know what our ages have to do with anything. I'm just giving my view on the matter. I really don't understand this "threat" that "vets" pose to you. I'm just befuddled by it. I'm not trying to "spin" anything. I'm just having a discussion. If you don't care what others do and made up your mind then why argue about it so much? Just do what you plan to do. The thing I don't get is that we aren't enemies here, and I don't think anyone is forcing anyone to do anything, yet I feel this strong angst against the legacy folks and server as if we all did something horribly wrong to even suggest the idea to try and keep our small RP community together. Anyway, have fun wherever you end up. I hope you have many great adventures.
  13. Funny thing is, ask two people how they feel about the current temperature and you are likely to get a couple different answers. So unless you are saying, "Man, that blizzard outside is harsh." and it's not even snowing, you could probably get away with some comments about it. Like said above, I usually don't mention it unless others do, then I just play along. This kinda goes into that question of, if it's daytime in-game and the RP session lasts three in-game days, then how do you comment on the time of day in RP? Would be cool if we had some kind of temperature gauge in-game, though.
  14. I don't get this at all. Meeting people is meeting people. Sometimes they are in a group, sometimes they aren't. Does this mean that if a group of friends or a couple join the same "new" sever as you you won't play with them either because they already know each other? We hear this all the time, "My friends and I want to start on a new server". Isn't that the same thing in the end in regards to groups that already know each other? Wouldn't that then mean that other new players won't want to play with your group of friends since you already know each other? (The general you) Often times guilds are formed and started well before a new games launches. A lot of new ones are starting now on this very forum alongside older ones. When a new player starts the game on launch day there are already a bunch of guilds already established. You can't start on a server where no one knows each other at all. It's just not possible. And I just find it all the more ironic how many (not necessarily the person I commented) complaining about Balmung and its already established groups are coming from people that themselves are "a group a friends". To me this is just simply a fear that "I won't be accepted with the cool kids" or that they want to start on an equal footing, IE for competitive reasons, which I can understand to a degree, but everyone levels at a different pace anyway, so it's sort of a moot point in the long run. (again this is in general to those complaining about starting on an established RP server, not specifically to the commented post above) Like others have said, a new server isn't going to be open each time new players join the game, and if new players are truly role-players and want that immersion then they should go where the majority of their fellows are. Just as in real life, there will be people more experienced than you and groups and bonds already formed. Work with that into your character story. Just my opinion...
  15. So are many people planning to take what they learn from beta to level really fast in P4/Live? Or do you plan to balance out leveling to role-playing or just want to role-play, period. I'd like to take my time and smell the virtual flowers, probably as most role-players do, but sometimes I get swept up in the launch rush where everyone is running around all crazy, leveling. I actually haven't gotten that far in beta and I plan to play an Arcanist, so that experience will be all new. So I don't know what to expect.
  16. I got stuck on the same quest. Since it's beta, I'm not too worried about leveling. Seems many people are complaining about the difficulty of that quest. Since you aren't stuck on the island La Noscea, you can run to Thanalan and grab some quests there.
  17. It's a general poll. That's why I put it in off-topic.
  18. Love these! We've always had family pets while I was growing up, but I'm partial to personally having cats myself. My buddy Neko (yeah, I know >.> ) is such a character. He's so spoiled and gets a lot of hugs and belly rubs (didn't mean to rhyme that).
  19. I found a link to this poll in the beta forums. I thought it was interesting. http://poll.pollcode.com/9ekpj_result?v
  20. This then begs the question of Arcanist and Scholar/Summoner. Will they both be leveled to the Arcanist? Also the idea that Jobs are just for group content. I found that interesting. Does that mean a job is weaker solo or something? I never got to the point in 1.0 to unlock a job, but seems things have changed anyway.
  21. Why do I have to be the first oldest person in this thread??? 36 But don't let that fool you, I'm still a kid at heart. Anyway, I have never been to any writing class except what you are required to take in school. I have been writing personal stories since my early teens for my own comic books etc. So that probably helped some when I started to get into MMO role-play. I never did the whole tabletop thing. I'm still learning everyday. I probably overuse commas, but I love them. I think that role-play and posting online has forced me to improve my ability to write, but I still can't spell for beans. >.< My MMO RP history is pretty varied. I've run the gamut of casual to fulltime IC. I started in Lineage 2 (when it came out) and have role-played many characters since then. Outside of that, I have no family of my own. If I'm not gaming I'm working or drawing.
  22. Haha, this is cute. I tried my best to get as close as I could to the character I'm currently working on, including trying to replicate the Arcanist look from those new art pieces shown recently.
  23. It does seem pretty simple, really. If all involved know that the meetings will be public then anything that needs to be dealt with privately should be dealt with as such. Then there are no questions asked. People will always have private matters, but where and how it's dealt with is the question.
  24. Honestly, I can understand why some things NEED to be kept private in this situation, especially when it comes to PMs, from a moderation perspective. Edited: After reading the last minutes, though, it seems to be just some friendly banter between guild leaders. Maybe the meetings aren't the best place to deal with "private" matters, but if it involved an LS you were in, you should just contact your LS leader about it, no?
