Okay, so it sounds like my assumptions were correct, the teleportation only applies to those that were at that final battle, story wise. Living through the calamity will certainly provide a lot of opportunities for character development. I foresee a lot of dead parents (my new character's included).

Not sure this has been asked yet, but I'd like to have something cleared up. As far as I understand characters from 1.0 are transported five years into the future where ARR starts. However, this doesn't seem to apply to newly created characters in ARR or even many of the NPCs around the world. Since it's only been five years since the calamity, it's pretty obvious that all new characters were alive before that event as I doubt any of them are just five years old. So how do you plan to handle this RP wise? I guess the question is what makes those that were transported different or special to those that weren't? I guess the assumption is that they were at that final battle even if they actually weren't in-game. I'm trying to create a story for a new character and I was kinda stumped by this as she would have been alive during the calamity, yet my old character would have been transported, I assume. It's likely that my new character would have seen the world change while my old one would have no idea what happened in those five years. Do I have this all wrong? What are your plans/thoughts?

RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)
Averis replied to Mtoto Wamoto's topic in RP Discussion
Have you actually listed what you wanted? The site owner actually asked "what do you want?" and I personally never saw a response other than this rant and something about using the lodestone. Sounds to me that you just want RPC to go away so you can establish a community yourself with YOUR own rules. Sounds like the same thing from the other side to me. There isn't going to be a perfect solution that will make both sides happy. That's obvious. And with information about an official RP server still up in the air, we don't really have enough information to make a solid plan anyway. As for immature, I don't see anyone else ranting and calling names. Either way. I'm not one for splitting the community, but not like anyone can stop you either. So good luck! -
RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)
Averis replied to Mtoto Wamoto's topic in RP Discussion
I'd just like to add that I'm a legacy player, but I don't have a level 50 anything. So not everyone with legacy has a super established character. I'm also in no rush to get to the "end". I rather prefer to enjoy the journey. As for the matter at hand, I'm in the wait and see position at this point. - If there will be an official RP server, I'll likely start over there. - If not, I'll stay on Balmung with the RPC. If Balmung does in fact remain the main RP server I'm personally not too worried about it. As I said above, I've never made it to 50 anyway. I already realized that I was below the curve even in 1.0. Of course that's not an "okay" situation for everyone, but not everyone levels at the same speed and there will always be people that join a game later when the RP community is already established. You see all the time on MMO forums ask "What is the RP server?" We already know how small we are as a community overall, so most want to go where the majority are already established. I think another solution would be to create a new linkshell/FC for new players instead of going to a new server. That way that group can establish its own lore and level together and still participate in server events that will likely create connections with already established linkshells etc. Not everyone is going to be closed off to new players. Even if some are, you wouldn't want to play with their type anyway. I actually don't have an LS/FC at this point, but I plan to find one. Failing that, I may even create my own, and I would more than be eager to welcome new faces. So don't disrepair too much. There will be some helping hands on Balmung if that does remain the RP server of choice and if you so decide to join there. And don't be too surprised if you pass me by in leveling even though I'm a legacy player. -
As others have said, if there is an official RP server, and I can't move my old character there, I think I'd rather start over then. Though, I never really got that far in 1.0, so it's not that big of a deal for me. I can certainly understand why others would not want to start over. I'd rather be where I know most roleplayers will be in the end. Besides, leveling is part of the fun and it would be nice to see the new story from step one etc.

Unfortunately, due to lack of interest, many of the members of BF have decided to move on from Final Fantasy XIV. I have closed the applications for now. Many members agreed that we would look at the game again at a later date. Until then enjoy your time in Eorzea or wherever you find yourself.

I'm also one of the FF fans that started with VII. Up to that point I haven't really played RPGs. It was a huge revelation for me. Since then I've played every FF title (counting Cerberus, but not the phone games) and many other RPGs and now MMOs because of VII. X was the last one I actually finished and it's the one I'll usually claim as my favorite, but I actually didn't vote in the poll. I still have to finish XIII.

Hmmm... wonder when the OB email will be sent to current beta testers? >.>

The still-existing lack of /emote: concerned?
Averis replied to Satisiun's topic in FFXIV Discussion
"motion" was a subcommand that was also in XI and it's really great to see it and the other commands return. *is very happy* -
The still-existing lack of /emote: concerned?
Averis replied to Satisiun's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Yeah, I'm with Aveline. It was in XI (commands) so I have hope they'll add it. It's fine if you like the menu system and all, but they had commands in XI (and about every other MMO), so I'm hoping we'll see it here too. XI also had great things like and which you could use in a macro or as a quick way to type someone's name (if you had them targeted). Add in the /em and you had a lot of nice emote / RP options. Is it necessary? Of course not, but it's nice to have and I hope we get it. It would be pretty darn silly for XIV to actually be less of a game control wise than XI, I think. -
As far as I know it's just in how long you play a certain class, but I suppose no one really knows the full details. I really don't have an opinion on this. In theory it sounds rather craptastic, but I'll have to see how it pans out in the game. I haven't played beta enough to really find out. I've been too busy just exploring.

No, it just makes them jerks with no life.

Ha, that's a new one for me too. I don't go back far enough to the EQ days to have ever heard of it I guess. (Started MMOs with AO)

New FF14 Interview: What you hated in beta is here to stay

Eh, I've been on the receiving end of stereotypes for role-playing. All it does, though, is make me feel happy and closer to our little group/community. It's nice to know you have people that think like you and share the same views you do. Even when we argue among ourselves, at the end of the day we can say, "we're role-players". *group hug*

New FF14 Interview: What you hated in beta is here to stay
Averis replied to Aveline's topic in FFXIV News
Also, to add about targeting, you can use the last couple F keys to target certain things. I believe this will work in a group too. It's how it worked in XI. I don't remember which is which, but like F9 might select your character and F10 the nearest npc etc. In XI the low F numbers were party members, which you needed to use if you were a healer (which I was). I haven't grouped yet in XIV, so I haven't tested it. Try them out, though, and it might help a bit. -
Catherine - New game from the Persona team
Averis replied to Dogberry's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I'm a big Persona fan, though I only played 3 and 4. Definitely good games. Not really so much from a gameplay perspective as the dungeons can get a bit tedious, but still good games. I'll have to look into this new one. -
Any idea if they will be giving more out over the weekend? 4 has passed and no keys.

I've only been able to mess with the beta for an hour, but yeah, the biggest issue I see so far are the controls and interface. The mouse cursor is supposedly software (not hardware) so there is a delay. If you're used to using a mouse and keyboard then things will seem a little odd as the game really prefers using keys like XI. That will take a while to get comfortable with again for some. In some ways it feels like a step backward after playing modern MMOs. The menu system could use work. It's clunky and not really intuitive, unless, again, you played XI. I have a friend coming that has only played WoW and I worry they might get a little turned off by the current setup. Besides that, even with my 2 year old computer the game is SO pretty. I love feeling like it's a deep world. I love that there are no ! over NPCs.

You lucky son of a.... yeah! That's awesome... Ah well, I can try it tomorrow. Better than not having it at all.

It will take a while... the download is painfully slow... 20 hours!

FYI, If anyone here has a File Planet (paid) subscription they are giving away limited beta keys. Downloading now... :cheer:

Seems mainly because people are misinformed and spreading false rumors or still don't get that it's still beta. Like the AH and menu. Core and Eorzeapedia have a couple threads going if you wish to read them, but be warned. ;P

So, the NDA has been lifted... since the other forums seems to be full of crying, what do our fellow beta testers here have to say?
