And Antarctica! Why won't anybody think about Antarctica! And Midaja, I'm sorry, I never played FFXI long enough to know about the instances, so can't answer you

I was looking through some old drawings of mines, and find some in a style I played around with 5 some years ago. It seemed fun, and maybe fitting for a cartoon, so I decided to give it a try, and change it a bit up to fit my current style more. So here's a sketch of Seraj (top) and Azia (bottom) as I invision them right now. Azia belongs to Averis and is Seraj's sister. Also a chance to show Seraj more as her usual self. Since we're not sure about colors and stuff yet, that will come later. You might have top open the image to see all of it, it doesn't really fit in the post <.<

I think they said that you'll be able to chose your server yourself, so the patience shouldn't be that needed But yes, of course we should find a server for all of us! There's nothing better to have a big roleplayserver, where everyone works together to make it interesting, and as it looks right now, this could be one hell of a great roleplay server!

Pff, why is no one bitching that I didn't put Africa or South America or Russia in there as well? Whiny Canadians
-
Lots of European players! Not as many as the US ones, but enough that we can probably have events too if we want And if the americans are just a bit nice, they'll concider it when they make their events
-
Yeah, I know, I was thinking about that, but Europe has several timezones too, and as far as I know, it's still only 3 hours from West coast to East coast in USA, right? I could of course make all the timezones, but I thought a 3 hour span was ok to keep it within. Edit: Of course you can specify in your post I'm in Denmark, and I think it's currently GMT + 2, because of the time saving thing.. Summertime as we call it in Denmark. Same for Germany
-
This is just a small poll to see how the roleplay population is going to be spread out. Please don't be offended that I only took 3 areas, I find that these tend to be where most players are from, and Australia to get a timezone in that area too.
-
The level zones will always be a problem, and the only thing we can do is try to schedule events in a time that sort of fits almost everyone (usually in the weekends) and hope for the best. But since it's international, and all play with eachother (as far as I can see), you're not the only european So don't worry, I'm sure we can whip up some events in the EU timezones too

One thing I con't really understand is what exactly a region account mean? Does it mean that you have to sign up for the account on the EU homepage to use an EU game, but can still play with people who are using an american account? Or are they on different servers?

Happy birthday! And aaw, so cute cake ^^

Hehe, that's actually one thing I really like about the classes being as they are (flexible). Right now, I'm a bit unsure about if I wanna go pugilist or marauder, and usually, I would have went marauder if I noticed that pugilist seemed played more. But honestly, when you can change class all the time, it doesn't really matter. Everybody is gonna end up with something else anyway. I'm gonna start with pugilist because it fits IC were Seraj is. Then I can always move on to something else when the storyline calls for it There's not the same fear of being stuck in a overpopular class so that you'll never get a group spot. I think that is great
-
And you seem to be right, ArmaichA: So hopefully that mean I can just get an EU copy and won't have to wait for an american to be shipped here
-
:?: Hehe, yup, we got those, but expecting them to be midnight open for anything else than WoW is... Not very likely Are you completely sure about the regions? There is an EU homepage. Just want to make sure that they haven't changed their mind for FFXIV compared to XI, and I end up with the wrong version ^^ http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/#/about/game_info Here it says something about Square Enix accounts being region-specific...
-
Okay, I thought so, but I was confused since there seem to be different homepages. But fantastic! Then I'll see if I can find a store with midnight open the 30th to preorder from

A question about the servers. Does anyone know if there will be different servers for US and EU, like there is in many games? Have to make sure to get the right version, and if there is different servers, I need to order it from America.

I know Iroh just bought a new laptop he's planning to use when he moves over here (Denmark), also for FFXIV, and it looks pretty nice. I'll get him to post what he got when he gets up.

Hmm, yeah, ok, that makes sense... It's a bit confusing. Maybe I should just get 1 gb RAM extra <.

My favorite villain of all time comes from the fantasy musical of Atlantis, and it's mainly because he's so evil. He does several times mention to be evil, but all in all, it's a mix of powerhunger, revering an evil god and for the glory of the nation. In short, he manage to, in war, kill his best friend who is the commander, blame it on the enemy and take over the army. He then returns to Atlantis as a war hero, plotting to overthrow the king. He manages to get the hero imprisoned for kissing the princess, talking him into killing the kind and then, when the hero have second thoughts, kills the kind himself and blames the hero. He then seduces the princess (and makes her pregnant), imprisons, tortures, rapes and kills the heroes mother, turns the entire nation from their god, Poseidon (the greek god of the sea) to his evil god, make them believe that they have to go to war to ensure their land untill eventually the gods get so angry that they make the entire island sink into the ocean. Why he is such an amazing villain is because he's extremely evil, but also extremely charismatic, so he get an entire people to follow him. It sounds like the same deal with Zane's villain character, who sounds really interesting.

More Dexter spoiler below... Back to the subject. One thing I think is important to keep in mind, for all roelplay, is that things that might work in tv-shows, movies and books, where the writer is in control of all the characters, is not necessarely going to work in a roleplaysetting where other people play as well. That loner wolf character that keeps people out, but everybody still think he is cool and wanna hang out with him? Sure, it's a cool idea, but in reality, people are probably not going to find it interesting to roleplay with for a very long time. Same goes for villains I guess...
-
Hah, that actually seem pretty accurate, with the miqo'te being number one, and the Mithra being closer to number 2 (thoughh not completely). Funny chart ^^
-
I stronly agree with the "Be careful about making it your main" point. While it can be interesting, it might be a problem keeping it up in the long run, and especially to have someone truly care about your character. And while that might not be something you necessarely want, to me, I always find the interactions between characters the most interesting, and if your character never cares about anything or anyone, it becomes boring in the end (I've tried it ). A possible solution could be not tp make him an outright villain, possibly a villain for a while, but more of a tortured soul or misguided person, slipping into darkness for a while. It allows for you to make the character come out on the other side, instead of eventually having to take a complete downfall ending with death or prison.

Hehe, yeah, she's not actually that annoyed/bored as she look here (one of the reasons I changed her from a Keeper to a Seeker in the firts place was that their personallity fitted her more than the brooding of the Keepers)... But I felt like catching her in a "... What? -.-" moment, hehe. And thanks.

While I largely agree that the character dhouldn't see himself as a villain (that's one of the things that can make him seem cartoony"), he doesn't necessarely have to be working for what he believe is good. I agree that motivation is the key, but there can be many kind of motivations for ultimately do bad things. Believing it is for a greater good is one. Power or money could be another. Revenge is a third, if something bad happen to the people we love, sometimes something can snap, turning even a good person into a bad one. Just look at the many hollywood vigilante movides about a man going after his kidnapped daughter/avenging his murdered wife/etc. They might be the protagonist of the movie, but are they really good guys? It can also be things as a misguided sense of loyalty for instance. I once played a character who was more or less the henchman of a NPC I made up for storyline purposes. She wasn't evil as such, but she did pretty bad things, and could easily be seen as an antagonist in many ways. I think the important thing is to not only think in "good/evil". Not one person is purely good or evil, as we talked about when we were discussing your character, it's important to make the character 3 dimensional. Not everyone is good, and not everyone strive to be (Seraj for instance is not good as such. She is however not evil either). Try building a character with both good and bad side and be careful not to make him just evil, give him both sides. The internal struggle between doing what is right and for instance getting revenge can be super interesting, and very villain worthy. The most effective villains I've seen, in novels, movies, etc., has always been the ones I sort of liked, or at least understood a bit. And, as we talked about earlier, be careful with the story. When finding reasons for your character to become a villain, you can easily end up with a very "dark" story. While there is nothing wrong with that, be prepared for the fact that most people have seen the really dark stories many times before and they can easily cmoe off as "cliché" or overly tragic. Also here, you have to find the balance between good and bad. If his entire family dies, gives him a small light atthe end of the tunnel. That makes it all the more efficient when he doesn't actually reach that light but turn to darkness instead. Edit: Now I feel like making a villain myself sometime <.<

Really? Oh that would be great! I was under the impression that 32bit could only use 2gb. I'll go by 2 more asap <.<. Already with just the two, the game should run fine on my computer though, scored around 3500 in the benchmark test... But a few more RAMS might mean I won't have to turn any graphics down :cheer:
-
Yeah, I wouldn't plan too far ahead either. But there's always the possibility of a 180 turn, that he eventually grows good (or better at least), that you'll lose interest in playing him anyway at that point, that he pretends to be good but really just plot a new thing, etc. It all depends on where the story is at the point, but yes, I completely agree with ArmaichA , that is one of the tough things about playing a villain.
