  1. At 1:14, there is some pretty awesome artwork for monsters. In particular, a brutal-looking buffalo, and what looks to be a coeurl, as well as a golem.
  2. Just like that, a life snuffed out. How senseless. What an act of heroism.
  3. Having played('tested' ) for a considerable amount of time now, this is what I have to say about FFXIV: I love it. Truly. It's more or less everything I had wanted it to be. Sure, there's still some stuff that needs ironing out, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were still a few bugs and adjustments to be made after launch. But I suppose I've been fortunate; my system (admittedly a brand new machine bought for this game) runs FFXIV perfectly. I've only had a rare few crashes. My lag is negligible. Playing in Closed Beta phases 2 and 3 were mildly enjoyable, but also very frustrating. I feel that SE has done a great job in listening to the community's feedback, and implementing changes and fixes. Open beta is great. (And far too addictive!) The graphics are stunning. The battle system is fun and engaging. Gathering and crafting have just the right balance of difficulty and reward. The environment and story is amazing, and so immersive. I support the levelling fatigue. I see SE's logic, and I think it makes sense. Because really, the only people complaining about having nothing to do are those who are only levelling one type of class. Because I mine, synth, and do battleleves, I'm never left without stuff to do. The guildleve limits don't even bother me, because I have local(crafting) leves that I do every day. And when we're all in game and there's a thriving RP environment, there will rarely be a dull moment. But all of that doesn't rival FFXIV's true strength: its potential. The game is great now. Sure. But in a year's time? Two years? It's going to be breathtaking.
  4. D'oh! I only just read this thread, so I think I've missed the deadline. But here's my submission anyways, if you're interested: http://www.mediafire.com/?9678gu6uer4ywyr
  5. We've certainly nothing to lose by it. Perhaps we should form a petition.
  6. Whichever server we end up on, it will only ever be as good as we, the community, make it. Nothing more, and nothing less. If for whatever reason our server doesn't work out, we will only have ourselves to blame, and not something so trivial as the server name. The community has chosen Besaid, and I trust the community.
  7. You only just made that account, so couldn't have voted in the poll. Why exactly do you want a revote?
  8. While initially I had planned to start in Gridania, I really like Ul'dah for its vast spaces and its gritty social environment. Limsa mainly just irritated me with all of its hostile pirate NPCs but Ul'dah, while being a tough place to live, has a more amiable feel to it. Of course, a lot of that friendliness is simply a charismatic front...
  9. I agree. Unless SE give us an official RP server, fussing over the one we've chosen just because of its name is pointless hair-splitting. Although admittedly, I would have liked Selbina. I loved the music, and you can rearrange the letters to spell 'lesbian'.
  10. What's in a name? That which we call a Velodnya Cosmos by any other name would smell as sweet.
  11. There appears to be new additional servers: Rabanastre Bodhum Melmond Palamecia Selbina
  12. I think Open Beta is a vast improvement on beta3. The controls are just great, finally. The opening cutscenes are amazing. The graphics are beautiful. I would have liked more character customization, but I think SE sharpened the character textures up a bit for OB, so meh. Today I'll be trying crafting. It was an utter shambles in beta3, so I really hope it's had an overhaul.
  13. There's a post on the beta forums stating Cornelia as the unofficial EU server.
  14. I just actually squee'd. Ugh. I feel unclean.
  15. Hah, this is great! Jakih: Knight in Sour Armour The Sour Supporter Broken Bird Hot Amazon Perpetual Frowner I just wasted so much time, and I only have five! Ah well, I found others, but they were spoilers. ^^;
  16. I did. Thing is, if you find yourself in the kind of situation where you're surrounded by enough undead to have to 'plow through', you've done something wrong. Your primary goal should always be avoidance. This goal is hindered by the roar of an engine. Also: motorbikes bad, but bike leathers GOOD. Try biting through that, suckas!
  17. Anything with an engine is a really bad idea. [*] It needs fuel. You're going to have to stop off at gas stations, and get out of the car to refuel. [*] More importantly, cars/motorbikes make a lot of noise. You're just drawing attention to yourself. [*] Cars break down. Unless you're a mechanic, you're screwed.[/list:u] What you need is just a normal bike. Silent, easy to fix, easy to store. Essential kit: [*] Bicycle repair kits, inner tubes, an extra chain. All easily carried in a backpack.[*]Standard survival stuff - assault knife, matches, first aid kit, jet boil, zinc oxide tape, cooking pot, cup, some rope, etc. [*] Clothing for a variety of weather conditions. [*] Bedroll. [*]can opener.[/list:u] This is assuming the following situation: [*] There has been a full-blown Zompocalypse. [*] Civilisation is non-existent. There is no government. No army. No police. No-one to save you. There may be other survivors, but for now, looks like it's just you. [*] Thus, you are alone. So very, very alone.[/list:u] If you've got somewhere secure to hole up, great. But you can't stay anywhere forever. Unless you're in a supermarket. Once your food stores begin to run low, you need to take your bike out during the day and raid stores and houses. All fresh food will rot away before long, hence your handy can opener. Stuff in tins stays edible for millennia. The bike ensures your trip is swift, and gives you a severe advantage over any roamers. Weapons-wise, as a Brit, I'm not in the greatest situation. Although honestly, you want to avoid firearms for the same reasons you want to avoid a car. Loud, finite ammo, etc. What you want is a long blade. The obvious choice is a katana. Then you could make like Michonne ( http://www.comicvine.com/michonne/29-46819 ) from the Walking Dead. Good times. Then what you need to do is hope that the zombies are like traditional zombies, and not at all like the infected from 28 Days Later. Because the latter are much more terrifying.
  18. Mm. Cultural differences do complicates things, as most stuff classified as (I don't know how your ratings work) 18+ or something in the US will likely be only a 15 here in the UK. But ya gotta be consistent.
  19. Yeah, people can lie. But what counts is that the guild looks like it's at least trying. Stormguard has the 18+ requirement for the reasons listed in this thread; we don't place a limit on violent or sexual content (within reason), or profanity. If someone under 18 joins, their parents find out and contact us (as happened to us back in FFXI once), at least we can say, 'Hey, your kid signed an agreement saying they were over 18. What else were we supposed to do?'
  20. Sorry to hear it. But I hope you have fun in SWTOR.
  21. This is something to be proud of! Shouldn't we be having a party, or something?
