  1. The Traveling Templar Free Company would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those kind souls who attended our first speed-meet event back in the Sixth Astral Moon. Together we raised over 100,000 gil to aid those displaced by the Calamity. But their need is still great, and so with your help, it's time to do it all again... Starlight is almost upon us. T'is the season of good cheer, and although we busy ourselves exchanging presents, it remains ever the truth that there is no gift quite like the gift of friendship. Thus, The Traveling Templar cordially invites any and all adventurers to our Starlight Speed-Meeting event! You’ll meet new people and hopefully make new friends, and afterwards there will be mingling with food and drink available. When: Sunday the 15th of December, 6:00pm EST. (Subject to change) Where: The Bobbing Cork, Fallgourd Float, North Shroud. To avoid congestion, attendance is by application only. Details: Attendance to this event is limited. This is purely to keep the event manageable. If you wish to attend, contact either Nadeau Celeste, Ne'ci Aera or Brynhilde Wulf in-game, or PM Bryn on the RPC forums. When you apply, you will be given a number. Please write this down and keep it safe! The event will be run by mods from The Traveling Templar. Before the event, you will be told the name of the mod for your group. This is a charity event held for the benefit of those poor souls displaced by the Calamity. There will be a 500gil In-character entrance fee. (We won’t actually be taking gil from you). Characters will be organised into groups, set up in a structured way so as to get them talking with strangers. After the time slot is up the group rotates and you’ll get a new partner. Conversation with your partner will be conducted in /tell. This is to prevent the undesirable situation of massive chat-log flood. This is not a speed-dating event! For the sake of simplicity, it's simply speed-meeting. Groups will not be arranged by gender (however, if romance does happen to blossom, that is thoroughly encouraged!) Advice: Your character will be conversing with others in 6 minute slots. The use of large amounts of descriptive prose and long emotes is therefore not advised. Come prepared with interesting trivia regarding your character, and make use of the game's emote list. Macros are a good idea! Please refrain from OOC chatter in /say, if you can. To keep the event from going on all night, we will not wait for DC's, bathroom breaks, etc. There will be short breaks between rounds. The speed-meeting is expected to last for just over an hour. The mingling afterwards will go on for as long as people hang around!

    Hello all!

Welcome! If I see you about, I'll be sure to say hello. Make sure to do likewise, I'm always happy to RP or help out with things.
  8. As do I. There is so much interesting lore behind the 5th City State and so little we know. I was considering trying to organize some Ala Mhigo Linkshell to keep refugees and a generation of Ala Mhigans born outside our lands to preserve our culture and history. Gestahl only being 5 when the great Hyuran Migration happened, he doesn't remember much about his home. Yeah, I really hope Ala Mhigo is covered in the future storyline of ARR. I wouldn't be surprised if liberating it from the Empire was the main focus of the games first expansion (which is apparently already being worked on). I've been toying with the idea recently of an Ala Mhigan/resistance fighters LS. Would any of you be interested?
  9. Awesome! Did you catch their names? I'd love to RP with them since Salty is a reformed pirate. She might try to recruit them! It makes sense for their to be all lady pirate groups, really! The tavern is called 'The Missing Member'. The pirates are called The Sanguine Sirens. 1) Is this a background you can get into? Sure! I see no problem with it. 2) Do you prefer the war to the Cataclysm or the end events in 2.0? If the latter we could actually role play out history as Salty still needs to do those missions. I generally try to avoid mentioning the main quest in RP, so I'd prefer the Calamity. 3) Do you want to be one of the original 8 members? These would be considered officers or at least senior members in the Company. Bryn went to Carteneau with a unit of old friends from the Ala Mhigan resistance, so this isn't an option for her. I'm open to linking her with the story in other ways, though. 4) Is everyone ok with this being a linkshell? Absolutely. 5) Anyone have more they could add? Not right now. ^^
  10. So far as I'm concerned, if the RP is public, it's fair game. Most of them time if I choose to RP in /say, it's because I'm open to others joining in, or I'm inviting it in an indirect way. If for any reason I want the scene I'm doing to be between my character and only a specific character or group of others, it's best to take it to /l, /t or /p. There's absolutely nothing wrong with sending a /tell to ask if you can join in. If you want to keep it spontaneous, emotes are often the way to go. But, as has been said, if they're too subtle they're difficult to work with. What they do, however, is indicate interest. If I'm RPing in a public place such as The Quicksand and a character emotes nearby that suggests that they may be interested in joining in, it allows me to make a similar emote which acts as an invitation. Just something as simple as "/em regards the newcomer with discreet interest before turning back to her conversation." shows the other RPer that you've acknowledged their presence and interest, and that you're open to their participation.
  11. The Traveling Templar are alive and very well!
  12. Bryn's having a drink in the Quicksand right now.
  13. I like to keep it flexible. If the time of day is relevant to the RP, I will go by it. Alternatively if I'm RPing with my North American friends, I will go by their time, only wishing them 'good night' if it's really late(or early, as the case most often is ) for me. Sometimes Bryn will remark on a beautiful morning or admire the stars in Eorzean time if I feel it will enhance a scene. Otherwise, I really don't think it's worth fretting too much over, as it's just one of those things everyone handles differently.
  14. I'm so glad everyone had fun! Keep on eye on the forums, as we'll be doing this again soon.
  15. And that's a wrap! Thank you to everyone who came along. We hope you had a good time!
  16. Only a few more hours to go! All are welcome, and we still have slots open.
  17. awwwww yissss I am all over this. Where do I sign?
  18. Bryn will shortly be milling about the streets of Ul'dah, might stop by the Quicksands.
  19. Indeed the event is tomorrow, ladies and gents! There are still slots open for late applications, so do let us know if you'll be coming along.
  20. Hello Alwyn, and welcome! I look forward to bumping into you around Balmung.
  21. One week to go, everyone! Get those applications in!
  22. We know Ul'dah has nobility, we know Garlemald has nobility, Ala Mhigo, being a formerly independant nation, probably had nobility. Ishgard is not the only society in Eorzea with noble families, it is simply the one with the most emphasis on them. It's been explicitly stated in the lore that Ala Mhigo had nobility. When king Theodoric went off his rocker and started lopping off heads left, right and centre, a bunch of nobility got together to appeal to the queen to stop him. When that didn't work, they started a clandestine plot to assassinate him. But he found out, and we can all see where that went.
