  2. I do believe the Hype Train for HW will be making a stopover at the wedding with how giddy everyone seems to be getting as it draws closer. I look forward to the honor of filming it for the two of you!
  3. Thank you! Managed to sneak (at least my 1st character) in this morning at around 10:00GMT, now the real work begins :chocobo: Well the hard part is already behind you! Be sure to take your time leveling, as there is certainly no rush. I know I know, HW, but you know what, people are going to rush through and be left with nothing to do once more in good time. And you'll still have this glorious experience unfolding in front of you! So stop and do some fishing, visit the Quicksand, visit some less popular RP spots, and just have fun. It is a game, not a race!
  4. To be fair he is not stating that we should lose the option to comment. He is stating that we should be able to decide if we just want to add Rep and move on, or check the box and also leave a comment. That way you don't end up being brought to another page when you see a comment you support and you're still in the midst of reading a thread. Makes sense.
  5. You'll have to let me know how it is! I want to see it, I love the series, but I'm quite worried that it will turn into Pratt World.
  6. So we're going Warded Man, ARR-style? I approve. I think the one thing that I would have to argue for utilizing the Arcanima styled magick would be that the body is not flat. Technically any design drawn on the skin is rounded, as well as slightly obscured by the veins, muscle, fat, etc. even if one were to find an imaginary flat part on their body. When coupled against the precision with which one can be assured is necessary to enact these spells (Wet book = Ruined book), I just don't believe it would be theoretically possible to pull it off. Perhaps you can get a weaker effect than that of a precise algorithm, or a chance for it to fail? I also don't think you could put it on many places of the body as well, we don't have too surfaces that can even remotely be considered flat. Of course, you could always just put the "REASONS" stamp on it, sport a full sleeve of tattoos, and I'll see myself out for over-analyzing the idea.
  7. Why of course dear fellow! For OOC interest I might recommend the Hugs&Cake LS. As far as IC goes however, a better feel for the direction you're hoping to take your character in would certainly help to narrow the choice to a few suitable options that you can then follow up on at your leisure. Ah, and before I forget, welcome to the RPC!
  8. Then why are you arguing? Because that is exactly what we've been asking for - the jobs to be accessible once you've reached level 30 on a class. It's ridiculously easy for SE to plop NPC trainers in Coerthas outside of Ishgard. I doubt that you are taking into account the lore-wise justification of going into Ishgard. I personally love how the FFXIV developers stick to their guns, and as far as I've made it, following the MSQ has allowed things to progress in an established timeline. Instead of playing other games where entire sections are subverted or never truly explored, the game takes you along and touches each area. So some classes are locked eh? Perhaps that is because Ishgard itself will remain virtually locked with our adventurers being special snowflakes who get to come in. Until we see how Square Enix will introduce this, I find this "Shortcut the MSQ" to be a bit disturbing. New forces are being discovered in the land up North. Not in the areas we have been, otherwise we would have already found them. To find something new, one must go to the place that is new. I would hope that an RPer over all others might at least acknowledge this.
  9. First. Stealing the image. Second. I would have been upset if I had missed out on story. Even the side stuff. It is just such a good story. At least, to me.
  10. If you don't know us and would still like to some and join the RP setting you would be welcome. Generating an IC reason is easy enough. Wrong wedding, mystery invite, arranged a clandestine exchange, won the invite in a lottery, got as part of a bad debt, fell asleep from the previous wedding and are still there, failed teleport, assassins, ducked in to escape the swarm of winged monkeys etc.. Shh! They will hear you ._.
  11. To be fair, the template is merely a suggestion for the shy individuals. Which you do not really strike me as. So no mistake made ol' boy! We shall get to the questions, but first I must "UGH" at your luck with just falling onto the Balmung server. I myself had to play this out like it was Black Friday Survival Camp and camp out the timers. Then again, I did choose to start playing on a weekend - not by choice, simply that was when I finished my new gaming rig. 1. If the accounts are IC, then we're all in trouble. So much foruth wall breakage. But seriously, no, it is not required. Honestly I do it simply because I remember seeing Warren Castille here on the forums and then I saw him in-game and thought it fascinating to be able to identify individuals from here so easily. Plus I have no intention of alts, so it works for me. However, you're perfectly fine doing it this way as well. 2. I'm certainly not the greatest individual when it comes to this... I know some names, let me dig up some people. Also, just playing the game is great for explaining things as they come up. I've never felt clueless. Minus flying in a light as a naked man and handing some dude a pair of glasses. But I just kind of suppress that awful detail. EDIT: Actually, Sounsyy was the name I was thinking of, and it seems she is already posting here so let the lore questions be free! 3. See now! I was in Alpha Company on SWTOR, and I did so enjoy the RP-PvP. I don't know of any group avidly seeking it myself, but we have a link at the top in a tab marked LINKSHELLS that has information on linkshells and free companies alike. Be sure to sort by Balmung and just have a browse through. The categories are regularly cleaned of the inactive free companies so if you find it, chances are it is still around. 4. Guildhest... those silly training mission things that I have yet to get past 30? No idea actually, when it comes to FCs/Guilds my knowledge is regrettably lacking. Regardless, I hope this may have cleared up at least one question... while giving you about three more to ask. I hope to see you online, and best of luck finding the other answers!
  12. aw dude thank you! ill take a look at that! whispers softly it's okay i can wait 5evr for u I actually love strawberry anything too! Like oh gosh. I'm a fiend for those things--especially dipped in caramel!! ... Now I want caramel strawberries. T.T
  13. Oh my gosh I bet!! Oreo is my favourite flavour (outside of strawberry) o/ same.....strawberryies are so good........youre making me want to transfer immediately omg...youre so cool ;w; whispers softly it's okay i can wait 5evr for u I actually love strawberry anything too! Like oh gosh. I'm a fiend for those things--especially dipped in caramel!! ... Now I want caramel strawberries. 14. Welcome to the RPC, but don't let them fool you, it's a tra...< dragged back to the depths >
  15. IM SO GLAD YOU LIKE THAT EMOJI its my fav. literal fave....... ill try to get on balmung cause thats were all the cool kids seem to be at ;w; ill have to wake up super early tomorrow or something to try and get in!! like i mentioned in the above post, just getting into gilgamesh was enough to make me happy \o/ If you have a character that you truly enjoy and have put time into, you can also do a character transfer for $18. They bypass character creation limitations. I actually made a post about getting into Balmung before that you can find [here] that might give you some tips! Best of luck, and we hope to see you there soon!
  16. A pleasure to meet you Nile! My apologies on it taking so long to reach this, however on the weekend I was regrettably tied up in a combination of AF Drills, Drunken Cards Against Humanity, and listening to five hours - or at least it felt like it - training about things that should really just be common sense. Enough about my grand life choices though! The Balmung server is definitely where you'll want to go! Not saying you can't go other places, but I am there and I'll admit I may be a bit biased. While I definitely found more RP here, honestly I would say it is more important to just make friends here and keep a sharp on the Making Connections and Balmung events. I try to attend any that makes sense for my character, and so far the ones I have made have been an absolute delight and even led to developments in Rio's story that I had never even thought of! Highly highly recommend using the resources you have open to you! Not to discredit the Linkshells however of course, nor the Free Companies. If you didn't find it yet, there is a tab on the top marked LINKSHELLS that will take you to a listing of Linkshells and Free Companies that you can even sort by server. Sorry to hear about the last RP Partner, but if this game has shown me anything, just don't be afraid to put yourself out there and you'll find folks you click with! I actually lost a very near and dear RP friend a while back IRL, but it wasn't truly a falling out so I can't imagine how going through that was for you... I'm glad to see you springing back though, and armed with that emoji I'm sure you're well on track to make a full recovery! As for the matter of cliche. I find that a character is not defined by one or two attributes. If you have likes, dislikes, fears, and flaws, you help to mold the uniqueness of your character into a basic model. I play a roaming doctor. Not too terribly amazing of a concept, but from there we're at the spinning wheel, molding the character into something all unto itself. Aim to be dragoon. Check. Smart. Check. Miqo'te. Check. Now is the fun part, where you make someone truly your own. Perhaps he seeks a new solution to fighting Dragons, maybe he wants to go all Train Your Dragon on them, who knows, it is your tale so tell it! And pray do not stop there. Likes Pineapples. Hates Ear Wax. Go nucking futs with it. So you're the reason there is no cheesecake in the cold aisle of Walgreen's.... you monster. Well, I'd say I've right about talked your ear off, but welcome to the RPC and I do hope you have a pleasant time settling in. It's going to be quite the ride of your RP Career!
  17. Outstanding, short sweet and to the point! Welcome to the RPC, and I do so hope you're around for years and years to come. It certainly is an impressive game and perhaps one of the few that has managed to take my breath away with in-game views. If you or your lovely wife have any questions feel free to post them here!
  18. Well let me clear the worry. You do not always have to be in character on Balmung. We all have times where we are not, typically defined by gear, sprinting all over the place, and generally jumping over tables and being a goob. As for finding RP, I would honestly say to just look around and see if someone looks like they might be RP'ing or willing to RP. If you right click folks, a lot of them have descriptions stating that they are an RPer and that walk ups and tells are welcome. These people can generally just be given a courtesy whisper or just go ahead and walk on up. I would not force yourself to be in Ul'dah, after all you can find RP in any city. It is just a centralized hub as far as tavern RP goes. Oh, and NPCing just means basically using a character as a different character because it is just a very temporary thing. Like say you need a bad guy for your plot, but that is not Rio? I could NPC it by swapping clothes and just pretending to be someone else. And others have characters that specifically are just never played outside of a given purpose and so they are often referred to as NPCs as well.
  19. Thanks for the reply! I'll keep that in mind if I ever decide to go over there for some of my roots RP, given I am really familiar with forum and I do admit, it is probably less intimidating for me (Though I'll need to get over that. I know), but I'm not here just for that after all. When you suggested The Red Wings, I went ahead and gave them a read over. They seem like a pretty interesting group. I think my only concern I have right now is my time restraints. I'm a touch worried that may interfere with big RP events because of my living schedule and sometimes life interference. Now I know people typically say "Life comes first", but it does kinda impact how much people do want to interact with you sometimes-- Though that is understandable. So I am wondering how much patience people have here, but I'm also going to guess that is person from person... Anyways! Thank you again for the response and I'll probably contact the guild leader to see where maybe he stands on it all. Meanwhile, any other suggestions on perhaps a good way to break in a character in this type of environment? I would definitely give the leader a shout out, he does a good job of being extremely approachable and a joy to talk with. Quite open to RP as well, so to kill two birds with one stone I would simply explain via PM that you are new to the site as well as MMORP, but that you had aspirations of your character being in the Immortal Flames and that you were interested in the FC. With a bit of planning, I thought it would be an absolutely grand idea for you to break into RP and the Free Company by RPing as an initiate - that way you are not expected to know much, and the details of your character can easily change as he shifts into the responsibilities of a Flame and goes from a boy to a man. Maturity-wise at any rate. I was quite shy myself, but you simply allow yourself to get into the mindset of your character "tuning yourself" to their personality and simply becoming the tool that enacts the actions and thoughts that naturally come to you. In no time you will be able to RP comfortably no matter the circumstance, and before you know it you'll be creating your own arcs and drawing others to your plots!
  20. Oh don't be so down. In fact, while I won't even attempt to go into depth -mainly due to my lacking it right now- it seems like a lot of these issues involve the FC and those leaderships you mentioned. So pass the torch. Sure you can be there to support, and OOC you can even still run the company, but let another stand up for the group as far as the main story goes, and let your characters be free once more. I have a rather dear friend who was struggling with a similar issue when her character ended up in charge of a Free Company that she had only meant to help with finding its way. It ruined the adventurous and dynamic character she had created, and only now that she is finding ways to explore away from the group again is she truly happy with playing her character once more.
  21. I highly suggest the latter. From the concept of Riordyn to his actual character, all of his workings are being molded by pure coincidence and the way that the stars have simply aligned for him and I personally love seeing how he is literally growing based not on my own thoughts, but on the world around him. So I say make a character, and let them find their own place in this big beautiful world!
  22. Well I saw the question so lets kick it off there! How does forum roleplay here impact roleplay on the game? This is actually entirely up to the individuals involved in the RP. There are some individuals who only come back to roleplay, in greater detail, events that have already transpired in-game so that they can keep logs. Similarly, there are others who feel that certain scenes in an existing RP are too delicate in nature to left up to emotes and the limitations of only being able to utilize in-game imagery. Of course there are others who just thoroughly enjoy the nostalgia of writing on forums, or even just the idea of extensively building a saga that will be truly unique with the addition of other's viewpoints. And with that out of the way, might I say welcome to the RPC! A good way to scout out Linkshells and Free Companies comes in the form of a tab at the top of the website that says LINKSHELLS. It will take you to a large list of LS and FC that can be sorted by server. The moderators track the list rather regularly to ensure that the dead and disbanded FCs are no longer there, so with luck you will find one that appeals to you amongst the available. For joining the Flames, I might also point you towards the Red Wings, an RP Guild that will truly have the chains undone when their flight squadrons are actually able to take to the skies come Heavensward.
  23. Well then, it is a pleasure to have you back ol' chum! I find that really we never know exactly who our characters are until we're already roleplaying them. We basically set a direction, keep a series of goals in mind, and then release them out into the world to develop into the person that their fate guides them towards. It sounds like you've a solid plan, and I might suggest you take a look at an upcoming event in the works, [here], that might prove an excellent springboard for your character's scientific career here on the server. Best of luck, and feel free to shout if you have any questions!
  24. < low whistle > Well, color me impressed lass. Seems like you have quite the gallery of characters, and they do certainly branch from the normal to the absurd -in a good manner, of course- so you should have little trouble finding Open World and group RPs! It is rather daunting for one such as myself with only one character on one server to even think of juggling so many ideas, but it seems like you've got it well in hand. Balmung is quite the amazing community, and still find myself shocked with how widespread the RPers can go. Essentially the RP hub is the Quicksand in Ul'dah, however you can find RP throughout all the major cities and outside in the world maps as well! I hope you the best of luck with promoting the other server as well, and the site actually tailors to this by allowing people to search out Linkshells/FCs from other servers. Be sure to get those posts up at some point for maximum exposure! Sadly I've never done one so my experience there lacks, but if you should need anything else or have any questions, do not hesitate to ask!
  25. If playing on a computer, I have had some acquaintances mention a particular mod called Tale of Two Wastelands that combines Fallout3 with the engine of NV and allows you to play both, provided you own the games of course.
