  1. If worse comes to worse, what'll likely happen is less an Age of Conan, and more of an Aion. Strong start (largely thanks to a well-known brand in FFXIV's case), followed by frustration, disenchantment, and then too little too late in the ways of a big game update (think Assault on Balarea like NCSoft is releasing), because by that point everyone will have moved on to something else.
  2. It's funny you mention that, because one of the original issues during Closed Beta I would hear about was how mages would fall behind in the skill point department, what with the focus on less direct damage to monsters and more supportive magic or abilities for a party. Guess they went a little too far in the other direction. Although. This actually does beg a really good question. What in the world happened to a certain anti-grind system stopping these people from getting to 30-50 in less than a week, if what Cas said is true? A loophole in the system when doing leves? Maybe. Edit: Oh, right. Physical level doesn't have that limiter, so getting that to 30-50 is entirely possible. How silly of me to forget!
  3. Hm. Just out of curiosity, which job did you begin the game with? I've seen one or two implied comments on other sites and a wiki or two that you only get the second level 1 skill for a job if it is your beginning job, otherwise you must get it through the guilds and their point system. I might be wrong, though. In fact, the more I look around the more positive I am wrong. Ah well.
  4. Yeah, um. Though I didn't respond to anything after that post, with the exception of just a playful response to Asyria? I had already agreed and found both respectable and brilliant the further plannings and ideas that had been made by the original maker of this thread. 10 days ago. So. Yeah. Apologies, and I mean no disrespect, but I pretty much put my thoughts to bed a while ago and won't be taking time to respond thoroughly to your rebuttal. I just wouldn't have anything else to say beyond what I just said: The compromise that was come up with already was a good one; I just never got around to responding, is all.
  5. Now, now, don't call it that. Any FFXI player worth their weight in experience knows that is a "subligar". And we love our subligars.
  6. Sexy time, you say? Don't be shy, Oria! You lurve showing those hot pants off, anyway!
  7. Of course since we're all rather wet behind the ears in terms of experience, I'm sure everyone has limited thoughts so far based off interactions during the story missions. Nevertheless, I thought I'd ask what everyone thinks about the NPCs involved in said missions so far. Your favorite? Your least favorite? The one that makes you want to reach through a monitor and punch them in the face? Try and keep answers behind spoilers, however, as not everyone is even up to the second part or further (levels 10 and beyond): As for me, the one(s) I enjoy the most? On the other hand ...
  8. If the Lodestone updates are anything to go by, Lindblum is no longer on lock down. Also, while Besaid has been consistently in the upper tier of populations since the beginning, it's not yet been the target of character suspension either, so I don't think we've had anyone have to go to any secondary servers yet. 'course, I could be tempting fate by saying that. But I think for now we can breathe easy, and not worry.
  9. Because the Aussies deserve to be thrown a bone once and a while. Have you seen how awful it is down there in terms of release dates for most games, much less all the censoring they do? Poor blokes.
  10. Normally not one to double post, but thought I'd throw out a bit of numeric statistics a few hours in to release thanks to the wonders of Lodestone, and the search function. Keep in mind this is totally unscientific. This was basically just flipping through every server and not picking a specific name or job class to search for, ensuring maximum(?) search results. Secondly, it appears that search results might only go up to 1,000. I figured that while all but one server had not hit that cap yet, I'd show how things seem to be panning out. With that said ... Numbers pulled between 2:33 am and 2:37 am EST: Lindblum - 1,000+ Selbina - 956 Figaro - 910 Gysahl - 903 Cornelia - 884 Mysidia - 835 Besaid - 825 Trabia - 731 Wutai - 525 Istory - 519 Rabanastre - 421 Kashuan - 418 Palamecia - 389 Melmond - 347 Bodhum - 344 Saronia - 339 Fabul - 319 Edit: And because I am that *expletive* bored, the numbers between 3:00 am and 3:04 am EST, behind the spoiler to save space and avoid a "long post is long". Last time I'm doing it since Selbina will likely crack 1,000 soon, anyway:
  11. Ehn. Fair enough. I sometimes forget that us non-Japanese players came in alongside Rise of the Zilart. So even excusing Elshimo and Kuzotz not being in (further continents than Mindartia and Quon were to each other), there was main continent areas that were added only then, such as Tu'Lia, Li'Telor, and Vollbow. Oh well, I guess.
  12. Out of curiosity, has anything been added to the game's character creation? Or is it just the same as it was in Open Beta?
  13. You're a bigger buzzkill than Lord Buzz of Killington.
  14. You know, I was going to say "Only because if you don't hit space, it'll bring up your Ctrl+# macros" ... ... but then I remembered, you know, it did that in XI as well, but didn't have the detrimental effect of negating using Ctrl+R to respond to a /tell despite your Ctrl macros popping up at the top of the screen. What the heck, Squenix. :?
  15. Got to admit, I sort of miss religion being involved. I mean, don't get me wrong. Civilization IV took it way too far, and if you focused on just gobbling religions up, you were all but assured a cultural victory. Not to mention it was overpowered in other ways as well, ranging from benefits given to units, to all the money you raked in from religious wonders, and so on. But it had its place, and if it had been watered down and diluted a little but, it could have been nice to keep. C'est la vie, though. The demo's been very fun so far, and I have very few, if any complaints about it.
  16. In fairness, Tadir, the auto-translate feature only has Deutsch, Francais, English, and Japanese. I have always found it a little curious how despite Espanol being the third most spoken language, Square-Enix does not make a version in that language. They did the same with Final Fantasy XI, too. So, well, yeah. Not that I'm disagreeing or anything about your point. Heck, my point's basically the same about mingling populations. ^^; Just pointing out that you'll see some groups which you'll have to talk to the old fashioned "Me Tarzan. You Jane" sort of way.
  17. See, that's a very justified rationale right there, the event thing. I certainly have no qualm with that. You need to know the schedule of players for such a thing, and when best to invite people so as many characters as possible can come to said event. My main gripe was more directed at those who really have no clue how to just approach a person whom they recognize as a role-player, and the way that some linkshells effectively cause people to unlearn, or perhaps even never learn, what it is like to approach characters without any sort of excess preparation, or sometimes even just any preparation. But I'm also an old codger by online RP experience terms (has it really been 15 years now? I miss you, AOL 2.0 ...), and I remember when you basically lived off of free-form role-playing when in chat rooms. So I might just sound crotchety and old. I just think free-form styles of role-play are a slowly dying breed, and closed groups are one of the reasons why, especially in MMOs.
  18. Short answer? No. Long answer? Nooooooooooo ... ... ... ... ooooooo. Basically, what you already said is what most anyone knows. They're like linkshells, but also not. They're allegedly more like other game's legions or guilds, but that could just be conjecture.
  19. Well, /v/ didn't like my reaction guy image, but whatever. I'll put it here, too.
  20. Go with the second one, Gav. If the majority of dames around this damned forum had it their way, every single bro would have a face full of beard, effectively driving the clean-shaven population to near extinction. Just my own observation, mind you.
