1. Sure! Hopefully we'll bump in to one another! Haha, I think many of us did to be honest. I at least remember you being one of the only folk who made an effort to greet every new person in the Welcome Desk forum, so not like your post count is a bad thing or anything! Considering that ARR is going to have both exploration-revealed maps and whole new landscapes and layouts, I'm sure Tadir will have lots to do come release time, huh? I am, thank you! I'm just glad you still had all of that old stuff I wrote for Sati back when the profiles were all forum post/thread-based and not on the Wikia. Would've been a miserable experience having to start entirely from scratch instead of having all this content to build off of.
 2. I mean, really awkward. I may not have the #2 post count like Tadir still does despite his absence (jeez, man), but still sitting pretty in the Top 20 overall is pretty hilarious considering that until just the other day, I hadn't posted anything since as far back as the end of 2010. Anyway, yeah! Hello! I stomped around these parts way back during the beta period, and throughout the initial wheezing, coughing, hacking, and otherwise underwhelming introduction of FFXIV 1.0 in to this world before I wound up going on hiatus for a combination of reasons, mainly work and real life responsibilities that had me going all the way over to Japan for half a year. Suffice it to say, by the time I got back I had decided to break from FFXIV, and only played sporadically up until the end, mostly to get my hands on a Legacy Account as well as to be there firsthand for Eorzea's destruction. Sadly beyond a very small grouping of people (all of whom seem to have gone the way of the dodo in regards to their still playing FFXIV/being around), I never really got to get to know many people and play with them in the actual setting, so I am hoping that whenever I am not off grinding and gaming it up with old FFXI friends on my Aegis Server iteration of Satisiun, that I can finally get myself more involved and active in the role-playing community on Balmung, or wherever the community decides to go once ARR gets closer to release (hopefully sans the issues that occurred in the Besaid vs. Selbina voting way back when ... ). And I think that's about it for now! If anyone feels like prodding or poking me, I do have contact information that I placed in my Directory post in regards to play style and self-information about myself.
 3. I. Real Life Info Real name: Mike Age: Just turned 30. Siiiiigh. Gender: Male! II. Basic Info Characters: Satisiun Desain (Balmung server), and Satisiun Desain (Aegis server) Primary character: Most of the time I'll likely be on Aegis-Satisiun, but there will be times when I want to be in a more roleplay-focused environment, and that is where Balmung-Satisiun comes in. And for the moment RP Server Sati is actually further progressed, too. Linkshells: On Aeigis, a content-focused LS called 'PhoenixOrder', however on Balmung I have none! Primary RP linkshell: See above! III. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): When I am on Balmung, I'm usually going to range somewhere around Medium to Heavy, depending on what I am up to and why I am on. After all, RP is why I'd be poking around Balmung more than anything. For those who will also be on Aegis, however, I'll likely be keeping it light over there. Casual, fun shenanigans more than anything else, you know? After all, I'll likely be busy focusing on actual gameplay more than sitting down for some sharing of purple prose! Views on RP combat and injuries: Within the confines of FFXIV 1.0 and it's lack of true PvP content, I am fine with this so long as certain things are dictated in advance. After roleplaying for so long I've come to be wary of true, freeform combat roleplay, since I find that many people are just not able to really accept bad things happening to their character, or even losing a fight. On the other hand, laying out some pre-existing groundwork dictating who is going to come out on top while leaving the actual meat and potatoes of said combat, while the surprise may be lost, can still be enjoyable and add some depth to interaction. Injuries, too, can be okay, but nothing permanent without some serious thought and consideration being put in to it. Views on IC romance: I'd be up for it, sure! When done right, it can certainly add depth and content to a character and their interaction with another, and I've made some great friendships in the process of letting my character get that close to another one. Having said that, if Satisiun ever gets involved with someone, I just ask that we keep any sort of dramatics that occur In Character separate of Out Of Character. At the end of the day this is all fantasy, after all. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Maybe it's just because I am a bit flummoxed by the amount of this that I see, but there are so many people in roleplay communities who go about 'adopting' people in to these giant families, labeling people mommies, daddies, siblings, and ... well, it's a bit disconcerting. So I'm wary of Sati getting involved with familial ties beyond the ones that already exist in his history (which, given the state of Eorzea and his being flung in to the future, well ...). Not to say I won't dismiss any ideas outright! Just keep in mind that I want any sort of family relationship, either biological or adopted, to be deep, and not merely a dime a dozen sort of thing. Views on lore: While I enjoy and love the lore of Final Fantasy XIV, it's worth mentioning that the extent of my knowledge is also a little rusty, the result of only coming around on and off during the game's tumultuous times prior to the End of Eorzea. I have a good grasp on the basics as well as some more interesting details and history of the world, but if, say, you tried to tackle me with anything Grand Company-related, I would fail miserably since I never found the time to get involved with one. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): It's all good. They all have their place, after all. Whisper/Tells and Linkshells could be considered effective means to communicate over long distances or, when in close quarters, be considered private conversation. Same thing with party. Mechanics-wise, with the advent of linkpearls that can be directly connected between two individuals (evident by the NPC linkpearls in the game), it's easy to handwave many interactions as the result of sharing such linkpearls, either temporary or long-term. As for /say, well ... where is there to 'say' about /say? It's /say! There's not much else to say! IV. Other Info Country: Eagleland, also known as the United States. Timezone: GMT-5, also known as Eastern Time! Contact info: Feel free to contact while FFXIV is currently on its hiatus! Even if the game is potentially down for a while, I wouldn't mind trying to do some sample roleplay, or even retcon some play in that occurred before the destruction of Eorzea. For AIM, I can be contacted at 'hokutenlancer'. MSN is about the same, so just add '[email protected]'. I do have Skype and YIM as well, but I prefer the other two most. Oh, and I also have a Tumblr! You can find that here: Clicky-clicky. [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
 4. For those that want the actual numeric difference: Pre-patch: 85 characters Post-patch: 500 characters So. Yep.
 5. And from that very page: Ah, yes. Nothing like a little public hot skitty on wailord action to ... ... wait. Ew. Still. Amusing they toss in a mention about RP, even if just played for laughs.
 6. No. It's not. It's as simple as that. A lot of these changes are respectable, they're good, they make the game work better, and make the experience smoother and not as tough to grind through. That being said, there is minimal to almost no new content in the November update. Content and stuff to do outside of signing on, breezing through leves, then signing off is what keeps the player base both stable as well as potentially growing. In short, the November patch has only made that process smoother, which is appreciated, but still repetitive and dulling.
 7. I'll gloss over my thoughts on the technical changes, since by and large everything is gravy (it's funny because it is Thanksgiving and I am referring to gravy). However for role playing, all you really need to know is this: -They added "motion", which is awesome times infinity. -They did not change the text limitations, which is not awesome at all.
 8. I get the feeling that bazaar repairs are not exactly all the rage at the moment, unfortunately. It's restrictive because the person doing the repairs has to just so happen have the item needed for repairing in their inventory. More often than not when I see players doing repairs, they're being given the material as well as an additional commission fee for the repairs. The location is definitely not the issue, considering people heading to the repair NPC likely are going there for, well, repair or craft-related activity. It's just a matter of bazaar repairs not really being a popular thing for crafters to do right now. Your best bet may be to simply seek repairs more directly, outside of sitting and hoping someone both (a) checks your bazaar, and (b) has the item needed to repair what needs repairing. Beside the repair NPCs, however, your next best places to try are either specific craft guilds, or the adventurer guilds, with the market wards a very distant third.
 9. That's not Rockapella. (better than actual coffee) (a general favorite) (perfectly fitting considering the thread title!) And, of course, what Rockapella plug is complete without ... (do it, Rockapella!)
 10. One Eorzean minute is somewhere along the lines of 2.5 real life seconds, give or take a few tenths or hundredths of a second. It's supposed to round out to about a full day in Eorzea in one hour of real life time. The reason, of course, is unlike some other games which tend to divide their player base up by regional or continental servers (I'm looking at you WoW ...), FFXIV's servers are international, and so you wind up with players from all over the world on every server. With that in mind, going with a 1:1 ratio is both impossible and unfair to a certain group of people, since then suddenly the only time you'd ever play is, say, the evening in game. Hope you like being nocturnal. In the case of role play, you generally are forced to gloss over time. Perhaps you take stock of the time of the day when you first interact with a character who isn't already interacting with anyone else, since you won't end up saying "good evening!" when that other character might have started interacting in the "morning" with someone else. Or you pick time-neutral greetings. In general, you need to be flexible and work with the situation. A little pre-planning can also help if you're really afraid of stepping on anyone's toes, just by simply asking them before approaching if they have an issue with a certain time of day being recognized.
 11. Well, one month in by CE standards. No one gives a damn about what you lowly regular release peasants think about this game. ... alright, I'm kidding. Really! Don't give me that look! But in all seriousness, it has been an entire month as of today since the game's release to the public, and now seems as good a time as any to troll the waters and see what people around the RPC have to say about Final Fantasy XIV. Not from a role-playing standpoint, but on the game itself. The mechanics, the story, the way the game works, that whole deal. However let's see if we can't keep those thoughts organized, shall we? I'm going to fire off a code for you to use, where I want you to count off five positive things about the game, five negative things about the game, and then any additional thoughts you might have that might be good, or bad, or just general observations of a neutral variety. Or even use that section to talk about what you want to see added in at some point, or hope to see at least. Be as thorough or as brief as you like. Had I more time, I'd do this myself right now, but I bail for work in ... eesh, 10 minutes. So not exactly enough time until I get home some time tonight. Considering how dull this place has been lately ever since a certain, unmentionable bit of drama ended, I figure anything to get people talking is a good thing, right? The Good (positives)

[/list:u] The Bad (negatives)

[/list:u] The Not-So-Ugly (thoughts, hopes, neutrality, etc.)

[/list:u] And here's the conveniently copy and paste-able code so you don't have to quote my own post:
The Good (positives)

The Bad (negatives)

The Not-So-Ugly (thoughts, hopes, neutrality, etc.)

12. Don't forget that people around here love their (a) big cities or (b) pirates, so it's a lose-lose situation. And Ul'dah being such a centralized hub in terms of location, it's hard to compete. I think one of the bigger things that has to happen is Ishgard has to open. If that happens, Gridania would feasibly be a good midway point for people trying to head all the way to Coerthas, considering you all but have to swing by it on your way to Ishgard.
 13. It would honestly be nicer to see more people around Gridania. Between the lower floor of the Adventurer's Guild/airship sitting area, the amphitheater, and the several alcoves that you can hang out at (the northwest one before the Conjurer's Guild, for example, as well as the scenic spots by rivers and ponds), you would think that there are enough places to invite activity. I find myself a little frustrated that Ul'dah seems to be becoming this centralized hub of activity for the most part, both for OOC purposes and IC purposes. From an OOC standpoint, it means that finding RP in areas not Ul'dah becomes difficult. I do see a fair bit when people bump in to each other at Aetheryte crystals, but other than that ... And from an IC standpoint, my character is basically hard-wired to not only despise Ul'dah and both wear a mask/be discreet/not be himself while there, he triply dislikes the Miner's Guild for its seedier practices. So dragging him to what is apparently the most popular spot right now is a total breaking of character.
 14. What, seriously? Your signature indicates you're about as obsessed with multi-jobbing as I am, but I still manage to find enough space for battle, crafting, gathering, and RP ensembles. You must be drowning in materials or something. Which, admittedly, I was as well for a while due to similar obsessions with every craft job. But some pieces overlap ensembles, and I also started condensing as many materials as possible by crafting them in to other things. Ah well. Hopefully SE gets those new retainers in soon to alleviate inventory issues, regardless.
 15. Sadly. In the end, the lack of a hard level requirement for all gear has led to fashion over efficiency.
 16. Either level your crafts until you can make them (which in some cases requires leveling beyond the level of a new tool, which is ironic), or buy them. Depending on what you're looking for, the level 7 or level 12 tools for all craft jobs sell for anywhere between 20k and 80k. Sledgehammers (mining), Scythes (botany), and Gigs (fishing) are secondary gathering tools, used on sparkling nodes that are different from typical mining/logging/fishing points. Those were the ones I said you likely want to keep holding on to, since they're all but necessity.
